I've had mine for 5 years. Just dropped by to see the more recent editions reviewed. For a lot of people, the clasp is a contentious issue, being press-fit rather than having deployment buttons but it is beautifully engineered to a very fine tolerance. It has a, kind of, 'goldilocks' tension while locking (not too hard/ not too weak); very confidence inspiring as it feels very secure.
Some people find taking it off, to be painful but once you've owned one for a while you may discover 2 nice little hacks that turn opening the clasp into a breeze.
Instead of using a fingernail under the indentation in the clasp, to open the (I can't remember what it's called) 'safety catch', grab the sides of it with the thumb and forefinger of your other hand, pull, and it opens very easily and painlessly.
Then, instead of pulling the clasp open with the tip or fingernail of your thumb, slide the index finger of your other hand in between your wrist and the underside of the clasp and just push the centre, milled, 'strut' of the clasp out from between the other two 'struts' (again: '??') between, which, it is held captive by the simple press-fit system.
If you already have one, try it. It may improve your opinion of the clasp and the watch. If you're thinking of getting one, bear it in mind, as it completely negates any qualms or misgivings that some people may have about it before, or whilst, buying the watch.

🎉 Thank you! I just got my blue dial HydroConquest as a grad school graduation gift. This was the only thing turning me off to it. The clasp feels so tense and stiff! Even more so then my S.A.R. Rescue Lumen from Mühle Glasshütte. The 2 tips make it so much easier!

Wow after some months of deliberation, I finally bought a black 41mm then only a few days later this video comes out!
I find the HC to be absolutely stunning and I'm so chuffed with it! The rubber strap brings down the weight and makes the longer lugs wear a little smaller imo. Also, fits in nicely with a casual/active persons style that isn't at all out of place when dressed up on occasion, due to its clean appearance and nice clasp.

@@m0xiemarlinspike I don't personally have any problem with them.
The AD showed me a technique for winding where you kind of favour the index finger below the crown, rubbing it past the crown rather than gripping it fully. More of the crown is protruding at the bottom. So maybe that helped some.

After spending months trying to find the perfect watch and at the same time trying to rationalize the cost of more notable brands such as Tudor and Omega for their specifications, the Longines Conquest and HydroConquest offers ridiculous value for the specifications offered.
Double AR sapphire, ceramic bezel, 300m water resistance, 72hr power reserve in a beautiful package that combines elements from many well known models, these watches from Longines are such a steal, its borderline criminal. It's amazing quality for the price, it hits the nail in the head in some aspects: The arabic font used is similar to the Explorer I, but elongated horizontally with number in 12 o'clock instead of 3 o'clock because of the date window, really nice reference. Also the snowflake design of the hour hand is a thousand times better than the one used by Tudor, more aesthetically appealing. Great watch. I see Longines, Zenith, Cartier, making smart choices and understanding the market in recent times. I would include Breitling if they had more case size options under 42mm for men watches. I just got my 41mm Hydroconquest in blue to go with my Conquest and Spirit. Longines offer so much value. I do think they should have priced it in the $1800-$2000 range and put that money into upgrading the clasp, bracelet and lume (in that order).

@@KillerDiaguR It's mainly the clasp and not the bracelet itself that I think could use an upgrade. When you compare it to Omega's clasps (and bracelets) when their watches were occupying the space that Longines has taken over, the Longines clasp doesn't cut it (neither does the bracelet.) Also, the bracelet on my Spirit is more comfortable than the one on the Hydroconquest. So, I think with a slight price bump, they could have addressed it.

Just swooped a grey one (traded for my Zodiac Super Sea Wolf ZO9210). Came with two nice nato straps, the bracelet, and the grey rubber strap. The guy who traded it to me had the center links professionally brushed to match the rest of the bracelet and it looks fantastic. The high polish that the center links come with from the factory is a little much for a tool watch in my opinion so I welcomed the brushing of the bracelet!

Great video as always Teddy , ive recently added a 2nd to my collection ,the grey and rose gold edition , they are truly amazing value and deliver solid specs , if I could fine tune the design a bit I would prefer to move the date window to the 4:30 position to allow for the #3. On the dial and make the numbers just a tad smaller so it doesn’t overpower the dial ....i love symmetry !!! The other thing would be to bevel the crown guards a bit more to make them a tad smoother. That being said longines has mastered the art of finding the sweet spot in the middle !!!!!

I was thinking Tudor black bay but it was too thick doesn’t fit good at all , the moment I tried this hydro conquest I fell in love with it , looks like it’s tailor made for my small wrist and it’s very minimalist… u can’t go wrong with this watch… grey , blue and green has the sun burst looks great

Thanks for an informative video on the Hydroconquest. 👏👏
I thoroughly enjoy your channel especially the fact that while you are an enthusiast, you are not a watch snob.👍
I recently bought a 41mm in blue with bracelet, ( partly influenced by your video, ) and it is my entry into a Swiss divers. I have found it to be functional, versatile, good looking and great value.

I received the black dial 41 mm on the black rubber strap for Christmas and after having worn it for a few weeks, have nothing but good things to say about it. It keeps great time, losing about 1 second a day. The sapphire crystal is of great quality and the AR treatment makes it easy to appreciate the dial. It wears comfortably even with the long lug to lug measurement. The crown is a bit hard to access and the lume is kind of weak, but those are relatively minor issues, since most of the time I wear it I don't need to see the lume or play with the crown. I don't think there is a better daily diver at that price point. And it is quite striking.

Excellent review, as always! I'd like to point out that imo the 41mm version that you are reviewing here should be sold with a narrower bracelet (like 20mm lug-to-lug) and maybe a slight tapering to the clasp. I think that the proportions of the 41mm case need a narrower bracelet (the 43mm looks great with the same 21mm bracelet). Also, it seems that they switched to a green(ish) lume lately? My 43mm variant doesn't feature a blue lume...

  • @thecritter5589

I'd love to see a dateless variant. I never need a date window, and don't like to deal with them and this watch would look even more spectacular with that symmetry of the added "3". It's a lovely watch for sure.

Longines did a lot of things right with Hydroconquest. Too bad they got rid of the 39mm version with this newer model because it wears just great on my 16,5cm wrist. However, I'd say the best thing about these is the movement. The long power reserve is simply amazing and they usually run very accurately, in my experience.

Picked one of these up off eBay for $875 all in with nearly the full 5 years left on the unclaimed warranty card. Running nearly perfect in terms of seconds/day in many days losing or gaining no time at all. The L888.5 movement is the same movement they use in even their $3000+ models and is vastly superior to any other movement you’ll find in this price range imo.

Ordered rubber stap too to change its look time after time. Think this will be my everyday watch, it’s really comfortable to wear, not too thick and can be worn under the dress shirt. Price is great for Swiss watch with history starting from 1832, it costs a bit more than Iphone which have to be replaced every 3/4 years, this watch will last you lifetime.
