I would say, Oris Aquis can't compete with Longines Hydroconquest. I've had an Oris Divers Date on rubber strap for over ten years (2008-2018) and have experienced several issues. In the first years - still before the first revision and within the warranty period - the watch had to be sent to the official Oris service twice due to movement issues. And then after approx. seven years the main problem occurred - rusting hands. All three hands have been replaced five times on my Oris, with the same result. The new hands began to rust right a few months after the replacement. I really got fed up with Oris. Now, I've been wearing Longines Hydroconquest preceramic 39 mm version for over two years and I'm more than happy with this watch. It's great, more classical diver's watch than Oris. The finish on Longines is far better than on Oris (brushing, polishing, the quality of sunburst dial). The new ETA movement (L 888.2) produced exclusively for Longines (you won't find it in any other Swatch Group watches than Longines) is superior to Sellita stock movement used in Oris. All this makes me consider Oris much more as a marketing product now which might be nice at first glance but the long term quality isn't really there.
Couldn't have said it any better. Also highly recommend the mido ocean star 200c with the better movement, sapphire, bracelet with chamfered edges and ratcheting clasp around $840.00
Just got the Hydroconquest with the grey dial and love it! In my country it was also a factor that Longines has official service available while with the Oris I would have to post it to another country. Thank you for the great review! It also helped me to pick Longines as my first diver.
I was about to buy the aquis but after seeing this video I went for the longines, same gray dial, and I'm happy with my decision cause this longines looks so beautiful in person , so thanks bruce
Great Review! The Longines HydroConquest in Blue is a very cool, accurate, and value for money watch! The Oris is also an amazing watch, but I would choose the Longines!
Whatever people say... the Oris just looks better to me... I would never really consider to buy the Longines... Even though I wished Oris used better movement...
Oris just keeps looking better every time I look at it. The Longines looks good too but it does remind me of the submariner and omega quite a bit which is not necessarily a bad thing. The Oris just has something about it and especially in the little details. Oris just has this nearly perfect blend of contemporary, tool and elegance aesthetic that I don't get the feeling of with many other watches.
My eye cannot get used to the missing numeral on the Longines where the date display is. I think the dial would feel more balanced if the date was at 6 o'clock. Overall both watches are fantastic IMO. nice to see them being compared
I feel the same way. Thats the reason i don’t like arabics on a watch face. It makes the date window stick out so much, Especially on this watch with huge arabics. it looks funny.
I love that Longines finally came out with a Hydroconquest diver in a 39mm ceramic (2022) and Oris Aquis already has a 39.5mm for my 6.25 inch wrist. Which watch would you consider more elegant and for semi dress-up?
I compared both these watches in person and bought the Longines. It felt like a better built watch. In person the Longines just felt and looked like a more expensive watch. Longines all the way.
I’ve got the blue one. You won’t regret it. I did not like the Oris. Bruce doesn’t really discuss the really odd lugs on the Oris. They are far more offensive than the crown guards on the Longines. I really don’t mind crown guards.
I agree, I wasn’t even considering Longines when I was looking for a dive watch, but when I went shopping for divers it felt like the best built diver under $2,000-$2,500 IMO... the only thing that could be improved is the clasps bit that’s not a deal breaker... when you this watch in hand you get a different feel about the Longines, I wasn’t a big fan of it whenever I looked at pictures.... I got the black one and love it!!!
E Larson btw ... the crown guards are nice for me ... just rotate by 90 degrees and it becomes the logo of longines along with the crown as the hour glass... how cool is that !
Great vid, Bruce. I like the design of the latest Oris models. But the movement (Selitta) was always a showstopper for me. Longines did a great job by evolving the design of the HC. They saved the origin design signals. The big numbers on 6, 9 and 12, the crown guards and the crown itself. And they reduced the design elements on the dial and the bezel. In this design way it's going to become a legendary watch in the future.
I hope you do not want to say that Sellita is bad all the way. When I entered the world of watches and learned about movements, I always thought Sellita sounds like a coffee machine brand :D But after getting a Hydroconquest in blue with steel and rose gold that I still much adore, I went for a Formex Reef GMT that is equipped with a chrono-grade Sellita and runs exceptionally well - almost as good as the HC and in my case that means +/-2 sec each day. However, if I had a wish to make, I would love to see a silicone hairspring in there just as in the Hydro. That is a realy sweet upgrade Longines makes to their movements even in this tier and it makes this watch really stand out.
Pick my blue hydroconquest last month... im loving it! The bracelet does have half links and with the microadjustments in the clasp the fit is very good, much better than the old hydroconquest
Don't forget that new cal 400 doubled the price. That will be a big show stopper for a lot of people. Oris didn't kill it with their watches for me anyway but with that price? Heck I have a vintage Zenith Chronomaster here that cost that much... Speaking of Zenith, I wonder how they even called it caliber 400 since there is already such by Zenith. Even if these numbers are not like restricted trade marks, such naming is prone to be mistaken imho.
I own a version of the Aquis, like it a lot, and have not had the chance to handle a HydroConquest. I thought the outdoor video that Bruce gave us of both watches really shows where the HydroConquest puts Oris to shame- the anti reflective looks first rate on the HC in the sunlight. Based on that alone, I would be leaning towards the HC, the outdoor pics were that good. This said, the Longines Legend diver is the one I’m lusting after, in the Longines line-up.

Very comprehensive review. I especially liked the AR treatment comparo. Now I'm really considering the Hydroconquest. Looks like a great value. Thanks!
Longines FTW over Oris! More bang for your buck, better Mvmt, More stylish and cheaper. But, I still prefer my old Hydro 41(blue) in aluminum bezel, busy dial longines over the Ceramic one. I wish Longines updated the old one with ceramic bezel, no Date version, tapper down the bracelet and give it a better clasp system. I could only dream!
Longines is a brand that represents sobriety and a lot of class with a very extensive tradition in Horology, from my humble opinion I believe that Longines Hydroconquest is a better piece due to several factors. The detail of the dial is excellent, simply clean but very legible, the detail of those protectors Crown makes the watch represent a lot of strength, the ETA movement is something that is appreciated since it is an excellent battle machine, in short, for being a Diver it is very good in every way, it is not a Christmas tree they taste like what i mean.
Thanks for sharing. Although the Oris might have the better fit and finish, the Longines just looks wayyyy better. So for me the Longines is hands down the better looking watch.
Good review as always. For some reason, the Longines just speaks to me, while the Aquis just never has - no particular reason why. The hydroconquest may be my next purchase.
Thanks - what a fantastic review, completely honest open and objective.. I love both watches for different reasons! Decided on the Oris in Matt black and brushed bracelet as I have found a good price and like the originality.. but I wouldn’t be surprised if I end up with a Longines at some point in the future!
Looking at the longines’s picture on the website doesn’t do it justice. Didn’t like it much until I tried it on in person and it looks way nicer. Really good build, heavy, solid and just a Beut
I own both and totally agree with everything you say the bracelet and the clasp are first class on the Oris in my opinion and when you put the Oris on a rubber strap the adjustable clasp moves very smoothly with one hand
Oris for me. I own both the Aquis and the GMT. I prefer the solid build and tool-like look. Also, it is just a beautiful watch. Don't sell Selita short, it is a solid and dependable movement.
Nothing wrong with the Sellita movement, they even made parts for ETA. there’s no rational reason to consider it inferior to the ETA in the Longines (by the way I own the HydroConquest, 2011 model, and it’s excellent).
I would go for the Longines. It looks more beautiful in my opinion. I think the Oris lacks personality. It looks « basic ». Not judging on quality here since i never had any of them in my own hands. Just judging by the aesthetics and personal tastes.
I agree with all your observations. For some reason though, in my country and as far as these two models are concerned, the Oris Aquis Green is cheaper than the Longines Grey HC (on the rubber bracelet) by $250.00. To this day though, I still can't make up my mind between these two lol...
Thanks for a great review, Bruce. I share your love for Oris, own the Aquis Clean Ocean and the Diver 65 bico. I just can't get worked up over a difference of 4s/day accuracy, couldn't imagine that would affect my buy decision...and I do own COSC chronometers. There are some tasty Longines I'd love to own, but in this comparo it's Oris all the way for me.
Being from the caribbean the Oris is an excellent watch. I previously owned 1. which my late Mom had purchased for me in 1988 as a graduation gift. Now it wasn't the Aquis.. OK. i really didn't valued it at that time sad to say & over the yrs. it was misplaced. Having said that the Longines in that shade gery in my view has that sort of contemporary timeless look & it's cheaper...But i don't take away anything from the Oris Aquis both are excellent in my Book & one can't go wrong..........
Neither of these watches really float my boat, but think I would pick the Longines. Aquis is super well made, but don't love the design and I think most models are overpriced
I think if I had to choose one I would go Longines over Oris, I like the versatility and value. But if it was my money I would get a chris ward c60 elite 1000 and call it a day.
I think these are both stunning watches. I edge more toward the Longine, though. Just love that style and that gray dial! Also that AR coating is a huge plus for it. I have a hamilton khaki king that drives me so insane with no AR coating so that is an instant killer for me. However, I have to say that the Cherry red dial Oris is one of the most visually appealing watches I have ever seen!
Great review and for me it is the Longines as I personally feel the Oris is a nice watch but budget movement and does not warrant the $400 more just for a bracelet that is possibly better. The Longines is more versatile and classy looking and the design is more timeless. With regards to bracelet adjustment I purchased a half link (Part no L688158479) from my Longines AD for £25 inc fitting if that helps anyone.
@@downsouth1678 i like the oris better to be honest. The longines is nice but the 43mm wears HUGE and wishing i got the 41mm . My Tudor pelagos is a 42mm and wears perfect
Thanks for the review! I am debating between these two watches also. Though, I am only interested in the 43mm HydroConquest. The hardest choice is color! The Oris Aquis, and all its variations, is just a little out of my price range. So, like you said, for some, price might be the deciding factor.
Cool review. I own green Oris Aquis and it is a beautiful watch. Mine is average on 3 s/d so I'm lucky with that. I would like to own that Longines in black to. Why don't own them both ???
I owned many watches with outer AR coating- Breitling, Omega, IWC and i must admit it has more cons than pros. If you don't baby your watch and walk around as if you have a disability in your left arm or take it off whenever you feel it is going to get scuffed, it WILL get marks and scratches and over time look horrible. The crystal gets dirty extremely easy from just a slight touch of a finger and i always find myself taking out the microfiber and gently humidifing it to gently rub it off. When i wear my king turtle it never gets dirty and i just use whatever piece of cloth to wipe it down.
Brilliant comparison. I am comparing both of these for my next watch, which will be the first dive watch in my collection. I want a blue dial and I’m leaning toward the 43.5mm Aquis Date but I keep coming back to the HydroConquest ceramic as well. (I don’t like the aesthetic of the non ceramic iterations, it looks too ‘busy’) The 44mm is a little big for my wrist so it would be a 41mm. The Christopher Ward C60 Trident Pro 42mm is also a worthy contender at good price point. Also has the option of the GMT movement for not much more. Too many nice watches to choose from 🤔 Edit: I’m now the happy owner of a HydroConquest Ceramic 43mm SS Blue. Prices went up significantly on the Oris and it didn’t seem like value for money anymore. They also disappeared from my local jeweller so finding one became more of a mission. Love everything about the Longines.
The Oris is very nice. I just can’t get past it not having visible lugs. Personally, it’s just too odd aesthetically. If the Longines green version was sunburst instead of matt I’d buy one now. I think I’ll wait & see what else they offer as an option later.
Don’t know if this was apparent in person, but in the macro shots there seemed to be a few blemishes on the Longines. Now I’ve seen both in person, and would give the edge to the Hydroconquest in specs, but I’d go for the Aquis 39.5. For a more contemporary design, versatility. clasp structure.
Oh Wow Bruce ... thank you so much for this great quality comparison! crystal clear and Beautiful Macro-shots!... thank you very much. for me the rubber strap on longines looks Great... and has a better clasp (push button type like on aquis)... cuz the clasp on this one feels inferior to the aquis... Love both of these and offer great value! thanks for making such quality videos for young enthusiasts like myself!
I've just ordered the Longines in black from an AD in the UK for £800. Had to go for it. I've got the Tissot Seastar 1000 Powermatic 80 which shares a lot of similarities to the Oris but at a third of the cost.
Would love for you to do a video on what constitutes a daily driver for you. Like, would you wear a Rolex Pepsi on a daily basis? What's the most expensive watch you would wear on a daily basis?
I love the Aquis. And I wouldn't really criticize the AR treatment. It's like a Glossy screen - It makes it a bit harder to read in comparison (but still no problem there) but it makes it more "shiny". It's like the superocean heritage a more "bling bling" kinda watch. I have both and a Seastar 2000, but on the wrist and in comparison I can tell which is the more expensive watch.
@@Mannyar26 By any measurable means - the Aquis. Quality is a good chunk higher, especially with the bracelet. The only plus for me with the seastar is the bigger size since I have big wrists. Of course, if you prefer the optics of the seastar 2000 nothing prevents you from getting one over the aquis, and it's cheaper too.
Personally, I think there’s enough difference with these 2 great time pieces to have both. Currently I have the Aquis in brown with a stainless steel bracelet and I’ll be adding the Hydroconquest in grey with a rubber strap. One for the day and one for the evening.
You can buy the Oris with a brushed metal bracelet, without the scratch magnet polished center links. I think it's only available in black, and even it's bezel is matt. There's also 3 sizes of Oris....and I just ordered a Longines Heritage Diver... But that's a different story.
Fair comparison. Nice video and I have already decided for the Longines 41mm in black. I would like to see a 39mm version as well like on the first generation. But for now 41mm is working as well. The clasp is also for me one if the negatives to point out. Although the price positioning from Hydro generation 1 to 2 went up from around 1050€ to around 1300€ here in Germany, the only improvement you get is the ceramic bezel as the generation 1 also had the L888 with the same power reserve. So would be nice to work on that bracelet if you ask for around 300€ more! But all in all I love that watch and definitely a keeper.
Tried on the 39 mm and the newer 41mm and to my surprise there was little difference. Now shifted my interest to the larger one due to the cleaner uncluttered dial as well as the ceramic bezel. The higher price is justified in my opinion. Also the 41 mm feels nicer on my wrist despite my modest wrist size.
I have the Hydroconquest 41mm with the L888.2 movement, grey sunray dial. The strap does have halflinks so adjustability is not a problem at all. Maybe they updated it from the original release? I think this guy is an Oris fan, but I reckon the longines is a better watch (except for the poor divers extension... which the majority of people wouldn't use anyway)
Isn’t the Oris just a slightly classier version of it’s almost identical twin the Tissot Seastar 1000 powermatic? Removing the names from the dials I’d struggle to tell them apart
If the price was equal, it could be up to the customer. With the Hydro being 600$ cheaper there is no question. Longines easily. By the way, both watches are now much cheaper. Good review.
I own a few of both brands. I own a TT1 chronograph Titanium and a 1000 meter stainless sub second . I own a standard Longines Conquest and a Longines HydroConquest chronograph ceramic. I love the weight of the TT1 Chrono. But the classy look of the Longines HydroConquest chrono is my favorite . The watch I wear most when I know I will be very active is the Oris 1000 meter. I say why settle for just one? That way there are no regrets or limited choice for the watch of the day. On the ones being reviewed here is that green dial. That is a awesome dial! Emerald green? Makes it more dressy.
I have a longines conquest. 39mm auto. I LOVE it. Has a kind of explorer vibe. Bulletproof, 300m resistance. Most expensive watch I’ve purchased but makes me feel like a million bucks when I wear it. Love your videos!!!

I´ve had mine 6 months now and it´s running within 1 second a day accuracy constantly.
@@Lonewolf-kw8gg
It 's good !
Not to mention strap options
@@Lonewolf-kw8gg I bought a HydroConquest for myself for Christmas, and I am amazed at the accuracy. Still on the money. Haven’t reset it for 11 days
Thanks for sharing. Although the Oris might have the better fit and finish, the Longines just looks wayyyy better.
So for me the Longines is hands down the better looking watch.
Been looking at both of these for some time. Both look great but for the price i would take the Hydroconquest only because of the better movement
What a sophisticated and luxurious review!
Good review as always. For some reason, the Longines just speaks to me, while the Aquis just never has - no particular reason why. The hydroconquest may be my next purchase.
Same!
Perfect. What I’ve been looking for.
Love Oris but very interested in maybe picking up a Longines
I like the looks of the Oris but for almost two grand it needs a better movement and clasp!
That's the biggest downfall of Oris. The base salita movements sucks balls.
@@chulkcha Cheap does not equal garbage. I swear Oris regulates these movements. I have 4 running within +8 seconds a day.
Agreed
My Aquis runs at -2 seconds a day. Who cares if it’s in house or not?
@@iscraper6008 My point exactly. A utilitarian movement for a utilitarian diver.
Oris for me. I own both the Aquis and the GMT. I prefer the solid build and tool-like look. Also, it is just a beautiful watch. Don't sell Selita short, it is a solid and dependable movement.
Sellita mouvements just like ETA's are very good mouvements.
However we wished better regulation from Oris.
@@Ilestun, Frankly, I don't understand why all watches aren't regulated. Considering the price of the watch, it should be a given.
@@gregalonzo747 how's the accuracy on the selita
@@Momo_8k, it was running within spec. However, I had it regulated and now it is about +3 seconds.
@@Momo_8k accuracy on selita is like luck....
Oris is the winner here! The Oris holds it own even against the Omega Seamaster.
Great video. I've been looking at both of these watches for months now and still can't decide.
Great video Bruce! The originality of the Aquis can’t be praised enough!
Longines for me personally. The Oris base Sellita movement and integrated bracelets are deal breakers for me. It's a great watch othewise.
Nothing wrong with the Sellita movement, they even made parts for ETA. there’s no rational reason to consider it inferior to the ETA in the Longines (by the way I own the HydroConquest, 2011 model, and it’s excellent).
@@simonbailey2151 My main issue is that the SW200 is the base model without any regulation. I'd expect a higher grade for the price.
Pugzilla ok, fair enough. They even stick the elabore movements in Steinharts. It’s a bit weak of Oris not to do similar at that price point.
I think I would take Longines 🤔
I would go for the Longines.
It looks more beautiful in my opinion.
I think the Oris lacks personality. It looks « basic ».
Not judging on quality here since i never had any of them in my own hands. Just judging by the aesthetics and personal tastes.
I went to look at Tag Auquaracers, Oris Aquis, and Longines Hydroconquest. Had to go with the Aquis hands down.
Your hangang video got me interested. This video made my decision on getting it. 2 watches I bought from watching your content.
Been in a shop to buy the Longines. Left the shop with n Aquis.
what is aquis?
@@kennethtran4706 the oris
@@sin8901 i was trying to imply that oris is not a widley known brand
well reviewed, thanks for sharing, this is fantastic. I am leaning towards Hydroquest as now they released boutique edition and it's really lovely.
With regards to bracelet adjustment I purchased a half link (Part no L688158479) from my Longines AD for £25 inc fitting if that helps anyone.
wearing my 44mm blue hydroconquest right now, love this lil monster
That’s nice to hear!!! I wanna get the blue one too!
I couldn't make the decision so I bought BOTH.
so a month later , how is it ? which one do you like better ?
Nice comparison Bruce. Thanks!
For those of us with OCD the lack of a 3 numeral is a struggle, also the step from case to bracelet on the Longines looks wrong.
Longines, nice . . . ORIS very nice! 😊
Good comment! I never thought about the AR attracting dirt. That's something to seriously consider when choosing a watch!
Would be great if you can do a comparison of orient star 200m diver against a seiko prospex diver ...
Too many nice watches to choose from 🤔
Edit: I’m now the happy owner of a HydroConquest Ceramic 43mm SS Blue.
Just bought the hydro but my second swiss made will most likely be the aquis. Thanks for the review anyway!
Love the Aquis. This watch can take a beating. I have put mine through a lot and it can handle challenge.
Solid review. Longines is a better value.
💯
Which AD ?
Would love for you to do a video on what constitutes a daily driver for you. Like, would you wear a Rolex Pepsi on a daily basis? What's the most expensive watch you would wear on a daily basis?
Oris for me. The pop of the green is stunning.
What is the better watch, the Aquis or the Seastar 2000?
@@Mannyar26 By any measurable means - the Aquis. Quality is a good chunk higher, especially with the bracelet. The only plus for me with the seastar is the bigger size since I have big wrists.
Of course, if you prefer the optics of the seastar 2000 nothing prevents you from getting one over the aquis, and it's cheaper too.
Seems like there are a few people concerned with price. Regardless of the price difference, I stick with Oris.
Longings all day, better movement, better heritage, better price and I also prefer the dial to be honest.
@Jon Y. Yep Longines kills Oris all day long !
@Jon Y. You too , and im not your pal , do i know you ? NO !
Love the Bracelet just the way it is perfect …….one of he best at the price point
Do you have a moneyprinter i can borrow?😁
Isn’t the Oris just a slightly classier version of it’s almost identical twin the Tissot Seastar 1000 powermatic? Removing the names from the dials I’d struggle to tell them apart
Super late comment here, but I’m curious what size your wrist is? That ours fits perfect!
If the price was equal, it could be up to the customer. With the Hydro being 600$ cheaper there is no question. Longines easily. By the way, both watches are now much cheaper. Good review.
I'm a little late, but great comparison video. Did you say 2 year warranty, I thought Longines offers 5?
Would love that Longines in green with the rubber strap
Me too
The Longines looks better on the rubber strap imo. I have the bleu version, beautiful watch!
hey! that's great! I'm planning on getting one in blue rubber strap!
