I have only been to Samara once on a short business trip. I found the city interesting, although in some places neglected. And I was at the height of summer, when people were relaxing on sandy beaches and swimming in the Volga. P.S. Volga flows into the Caspian Sea, not into the Black Sea ;-)
Thanks for reminding me it flows into the Caspian. I wrote a correction comment and pinned it.

02:42 - 03:00 - The Volga river flows from Rybinsk reservoir in the Rybinsk (Yaroslavl region) and flows through or past Nizhniy Novgorod, Kazan, Samara, Saratov, Volgograd and Astrakhan into the Caspian Sea.
Thank you for letting us know.
At 11:54, I mentioned I wanted to visit the bunker but they only allow as part of a tour group and no freedom of movement inside. It would be quite a boring experience without being able to explore it on my own and have too many restrictions.
8:44 Popov - Most likely they are namesakes, not relatives. They have different names for their fathers (can be cousins)
8:50 Ivanov - may be related, although Ivanov is the most popular Russian surname.
Thank you for the tour of Samara. We look forward to seeing you in other cities.
Thank you for the video about Samara city on the Volga river! So sad that you was shorted in time to see more. But great you find some soviet footprints in Samara - former Kuibyshev city. The greatest is Stalin Bunker, which you passed near the Drama Theater, and also another Bunkers named Zhukov, Kalinin and Beria. Also you miss the Kuibyshev square, one of the largest in the world, with the big monument of V.V. Kuibyshev, soviet leader, which name was given to Samara city from 1935 to 1991. This great square accepted the Military Parade of Red Army for evacuated Government and Foreign Embassies (also Australian) on 07.11.1941, during the Battle for the Moscow. Also in historical "Old City"center you could see the buildings of Emabssies of USA, GB, Australia, etc. with memorial plancs... Than you for the detail showing the Glory square with the Monument of Glory and ethernal flame. There is also another monument in the city for the memory of the aviation engineers and aircraftbuilders - Monument of fighterbomber Ilyushin-2 (IL-2). Also, close to industrial districts there is the long pedestrain street (alley of labor glory) with the monuments for the aircraft and military plants and their workers. And, of course, close to place where you taked the tram, there is the Rocket monument. With the real soviet space rocket, real Soviet Heritage, and the Samara Space Museum.
Thanks for watching! About the Stalin’s Bunker, I did mention why I didn’t go in. Basically it was a controlled group tour only and they don’t allow individuals to just go through on their own. Maybe it was something new to only do controlled groups, but it would not be as exciting as discovering things on your own. I may return to visit it another time.

Correct. I saw the house and I also mentioned it at 13:50. Though, I did not visit it as I was only there for one day and had a train to go to. Next time I am in Samara, I will visit the house/museum.

☭☭☭☭☭☭ Russia is gradually returning to good old days since the horrible 90s
One of my favourite Russian cities
Senk..
Lol, Samara is a youngest big city on the Volga, and in the Russia and in Volga cities there was more old beer factory, lots older:)))
I challenge your statement about Samara being “the youngest big city on the Volga”.
Samara founded in 1586
ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%A1%D0%B0%D0%BC%D0%B0%D1%80%D0%B0
Volgograd founded in 1589
ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%92%D0%BE%D0%BB%D0%B3%D0%BE%D0%B3%D1%80%D0%B0%D0%B4
Saratov founded in 1590
ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%A1%D0%B0%D1%80%D0%B0%D1%82%D0%BE%D0%B2
Also, I challenge your statement, “there was lots more old beer factory”. According to various sources across the interwebs, Before Zhigulevskoye Pivo became part of Baltika, it was the oldest Russian brewery, built by Austrian Alfred Vakano in the late 19th century. Moscow's Ochakovo Company is another Russian brewery of note.
Information verified in conjunction with a Russian friend.
Its 99% true. Three sities was found +- in the same time (Tsaritsin, Samara, Saratov). But in free-sourses nothing any real documents about them, exept that the founder Grigory Zasekin was the major (voevoda, golova) of Saratov and died there in the 1592. Thats not the point. In early years Samara was very small and inconspicuous, probably disappered and refounded. Dont know why, probably this part of Volga was a very dangerous region - the famous center of river pirates or destroyed by kyrgizs and bashkirs. However, nothing any notable notes in literature and history sources, even old maps until 18th. And until 1851 hasnt any own terrirory (region). It was in Simbirsk gubernia and Syzran uezd, also for many times totally burned until end of 19th century (the last totally in 1880th). So, Samara started to grow too late if compare.
and about 1800, some poor Scotsmen came to the "prairies" between Samara and Saratov and settled there; and my Dad was born there (so no wonder my surname is Caledin)
Volga flows into the Pacific Ocean while the Caspian Sea into the Arctic one. Lеnin was constructed on the Moon and sent to Earth tasked to fire up Wоrld Rеvоlutiоn. Historical territory of Ukгаiпе stretches from Oder to the Ural Mountains. And so on and so forth. All those are absolutely obvious things that are taught at early school.

How do you make payments in Russia? Do Visa/Mastercard cards work there?
Cards work but only cards by russian banks
As @tony_winner mentioned, all visa/mastercard cards issued by Russian banks continue to work within Russia. They do not work outside (in most cases, but this often changes). Cards issued outside of Russia generally will not work, so usually for someone travelling in to Russia now, needs to bring cash to convert and use whilst here. Some Russian banks offer accounts for foreigners which allows them to deposit the money and use a card for convenience also.
In Russia Visa and Mastercard companies were obligated by law to create local processing centers in order to transactions on their cards emitted by Russian banks were processed inside the country on local servers, not in the U.S. Thus, domestic operations on cards of Russian banks can not be suspended from abroad. In addition to this, Russia has its own card system Mir completely alike to those two.
Concerning accounts for foreigners, many Russian banks issues multicurrency cards for any clients, not only for foreigners, for already more then two decades. Personally I, in one of the banks I use, have a card which is the same for three accounts, in roubles, U.S. dollars and euro. At present I do not use the last two but they are still available.
And besides cards, there are lots of systems of so called electronic money and electronic payments, some of them also in several currencies. And since they are local they work fine as well.
@@vp8244 Thank you for you answer. So for Russians there are no problems. However, for tourists it looks impossible to go to Russia now as any payment via Visa/Mastercard issued in European Union will not work there.
Hello, is it possible to find out why you focus so much on the remnants of Soviet culture in Russia? Do you like aesthetics, or is there something more to it and you yourself adhere to communist views?
Hey @AlexeyDesign. It’s the aesthetics mostly and the story of this period. I’m definitely not a communist or adhere to the communist views.
Thanks for such a great question.

@@AussieSpy Greetings from Samara!, i guess he meant the building at 5:28, Where the building of the house of trade unions of cultural workers was previously located, bought in 90's as a Electronics shop, and now after the reconstruction (and sorta destroying facade of original soviet art) it now became as a "Hands Up" Bar (Rookie Verkh/Руки Вверх) which is kinda shame
Got it! I was more focused on the Mosaic when I was there, rather than what was now located in the building 😀
I agree that is is a shame that after reconstruction, some places destroy original soviet art.
