  • In this video, I visit Volgograd City (formerly Stalingrad between 1925-1961) for one day during my recent solo journey, travelling 4,000 km across Western Russia.
Volgograd, formerly Stalingrad, is a city in southwest Russia, on the western bank of the Volga River. It was the site of WWII’s Battle of Stalingrad, commemorated by a huge statue, The Motherland Calls, part of the hilltop Mamayev Kurgan memorial complex.

Yes, there was the most brutal battle here, a meat grinder on both sides. Stalingrad is the turning point in the war. France surrendered in 28 days. During the same time, the Germans in Stalingrad were only able to cross from one side of the street to the other side.
18:31in the face of this monument, the features of General Chuikov, who led the defense of Stalingrad, are guessed, but everyone denies this, although the similarity is obvious.
I take my hat off to the sculptors - the images are impressive and no words are needed here.

The Russians, in fact, had no choice. The Germans did not come to take prisoners, but to destroy. My grandfather’s entire family was burned alive in their own house. My other great-grandfather died at Stalingrad. When there was a German air raid, he ran to the stables so that the horses had a chance to escape; his commander tried to stop him, but it didn’t work. Both the horses and my great-grandfather died. A few years later, this commander traveled halfway across the country to my great-grandmother to tell me how it all happened. You in the West have no idea what kind of war it was.

This young people that try to do prussian step is real shame,I mean if you don't know how to do it-just do not even try because it is one of the hardest type of marching technique in the world good example HOW to do it correct closer to end of video. @konstantin070797 5 месяцев назад +3

All because Poland did not keep up with the demands of the USSR. The main ultimatum of the USSR was that Poland would not allow Germany to capture Czechoslovakia, since Poland was one of the strongest armies in Europe that could resist Germany. But instead, she helped Germany and even participated in the partition of Czechoslovakia herself, occupying part of the territories. But since there were no plans for allied relations between Germany and Poland, since they are ideological enemies for a number of ethnic groups (Slavs, Jews, Gypsies), the seizure of these territories without the Czechoslovak line of defense was only a matter of time. Well, since Poland could potentially become an enemy of the USSR, its fate was obvious. Therefore, it is very strange to accuse the USSR of destroying the Polish army, when the same army occupied a neighbor, although it was supposed to protect, which violated the treaties of the allies, and even wanted to go against the allies...

@@Dog.soldier1950 Of course it is, well, if you're being stupid. This is equivalent to saying that Hitler occupied neighboring countries because it was beneficial primarily to the population of these countries, and not because Nazi Germany wanted the domination and destruction of nations they did not like... And this is literally what you are trying to tell us, because you are defending the Nazis, who planned the total extermination of the entire people of Poland, because there was no other fate for them, they are Slavs, no matter what faith they were, everything was obvious to the Nazis, they would all have been subjected to genocide (which is what the statistics tell us in concentration camps). And their government's decision to help the Nazis is tantamount to betrayal, especially given the special status and treaties for the protection of Czechoslovakia that they violated... Poland would have been invaded in any case, whether the USSR had helped or not, only in the case of the division of Poland would an additional buffer zone have turned out and the opportunity to gain time to evacuate the population and industry into the depths of the USSR, while Germany staged genocide against the local population, which you are silent about.

Of course, we remember this, as Russia in 1939 took away what it was supposed to under the Versailles Peace Treaty (the Curzon line) and saved 1,500,000 Jews from the Holocaust in Poland. And you, an expert in History, do not forget how Poland captured Kiev in 1920 in violation of the Treaty of Versailles (read the correspondence between Lord Curzon and Pan Pilsudski), how in 1938, together with Hitler, it captured Czechoslovakia. This is a far from complete list of the "good" deeds of peace-loving Poland between 1919 and 1939. By the way, civilized Britain and France guarantee Poland's security. Claims against them.

Unfortunately the assumption that Mamayev Kurgan is under private ownership is incorrect and it is not prohibited taking photos or recording videos.
In-fact, The Volgograd administration announced its intention to transfer the territory of Mamayev Kurgan to federal ownership. This is what was officially reported by the press service of the mayor's office. Every year, the federal budget allocates 7-8 million rubles for the improvement of the complex. The management of this institution intends to increase the territory of the complex as part of improvements.
So, basically, it is a site of historical significance, honouring and remembering those who lost their lives in the Battle of Stalingrad (1942-1943) during the Great Patriotic War.
