An elephant does have 4 legs but it also has a trunk, hence why it's always ready to travel.
The riddle doesn’t work without the trunk part. I wonder if it was a movie mistake or if it was on purpose (by the villains) to do that.

When she said "He's probably Hans Gruber's brother." I know EXACTLY what went through his head. This is also my favorite Die Hard movie.

The Elephant one is a dad joke, they are ready to travel because they always have their trunks ready.
As for the water, Fill the 5 gallon jug, fill the 3 gallon out of the 5 gallon jug leaving 2 in the 5. Now empty the 3 gallon and transfer the 2 gallons in there. Fill the 5 gallon jug and use it to top up the 3 gallon jug which had 2 gallons in it already, leaving 4 in the 5 gallon jug.
or fill the 3 gallon, pour it into the 5. fill it again and pour it into the 5 leaving 1 in there. pour out the 5 then put the 1 gallon in the 5. then fill the 3 and put it into the 5 for a total of 4.

There are a couple other ways to solve it as well!
Or fill 3 gallon, dump it into 5 gallon. Fill 3 gallon again and fill up the rest of the 5 gallon (it can only take 2 of the 3 gallons), leaving 1 gallon in the 3 gallon. Dump out the 5 gallon, and empty the 1 gallon into it. Then fill up the 3 gallon again and dump it into the 5 gallon, making it have 4 gallons in it.

I'm going to comment on Jeremy Irons' accent. As a German, I can confirm that it's spot-on. It's that attention to detail that makes a good actor.
Do they call it a 'lift' like they do in the UK? is lift used across Europe?
@@richieb6020 The German term would be 'Aufzug', but 'lift' can be actually used as well, albeit less frequently. As far as the rest of Europe goes, I can't speak for every language obviously, but at least some of them definitely have it in their vocubulary, too. It's pretty much international.

Really? I suppose like any nationalities there are several of course and some strong and weak accents. Personally I thought his American accent was even worse although accents can be hard.
Elephant has a trunk. A trunk also means the container used pack your things to travel.
1. fill the 5g then pour it into the 3g. You now have 2g left in the 5g container.
2. Empty 3g container then pour the 2g into it from the 5g container.
3. Now refill the 5g container and pour as much water form it into the 3g container (which has 2g in it or only 1g available) That will leave you with 4g in the 5g container.
or you could fill the 3 gallon container and empty into the 5 gallon. fill the 3 gallon again and pour into the 5 gallon till it is full which leaves 1 gallon in the 3 gallon. empty the 5 gallon pour the 1 gallon from the 3 gallon container into the 5 gallon. fill the 3 gallon again and empty it into the 5 gallon giving you 4 gallons. I know it would take longer but it is a solution.

I thought you'd fill the 5gallon and then fill the 3gallon then empty half of the 3gallon and then empty half of the 5gallon and that would leave you with 2.5gallon in the 5gallon and 1.5gallon in the 3 gallon then pour the 1.5 gallon into the 5gallon container that has 2.5gallon then the 5gallon container will now have exactly 4gallons.
1.5 + 2.5 = 4 gallons

How are you accurately emptying half? The whole point of the puzzle is you have to get exactly 4 gallons, with the 3 gallons and 5 gallons being your only standard of measurement.
I love that you pointed out the "dogs and cats" line, because it's one of my favorite little touches. It's just a great way of showing that while these guys may speak English beautifully thanks to their training, they're not going to have a firm grasp on American idioms because they didn't grow up in the US. To us, "rain like cats and dogs," is just the way it's said because we grew up knowing the line that way. He, on the other hand, merely memorized it as part of trying to understand how Americans speak, so to him it's the words, not the order, that is important. It's such a wonderful line because it's not used to move the plot forward, but it adds a touch of character and realism to what we're seeing. Just fantastic writing.

I agree that was a great touch and you don’t need to be a detective to figure it out but it doesn’t hurt that John literally is a detective. That’s why it should be obvious in the first one that John would never hand a loaded pistol to someone he just met in a place where he shouldn’t be. After watching so many reactions to the original I’ve found there are 2 types of people,those who think John is naive enough to willingly give a stranger his own(John’s)murder weapon and those who know the whole thing was on purpose because of course he knows it’s Hans or at the very least knows he could be any of the other villains,there’s zero surprise in John’s face when it’s revealed. Whenever someone says “oh shit don’t give him the gun” I yell out “he’s a detective!”I appreciated your well thought out dissertation and responded with my own🤣. Idk if mine was quite as eloquent though

Yeah, she got really excited when she figured it out and went straight to self doubt so quickly. She should have a little more confidence in herself. She's no where near as bad as she thinks she is.

@@Michael-hc2vs 27 year old movies are easier to predict now than when they came out - a lot of things we had never seen before have been parodied and/or copied (consciously or subconsciously) many times since then in films, television and other media. For instance, what was once a "surprise ending" like in 'The Sixth Sense' or in 'Se7en' or 'The Usual Suspects' or an after credits scene started to become so common place that we tend to try to look for them now... To her credit though, she is VERY good at it, unless they edit out all her incorrect guesses and leave in the correct ones. He kind of "gives it away" though when it's a movie he's seen already by getting quiet and not responding to her correct guesses and sometimes laughing at or responding to her incorrect guesses. When it's something he hasn't seen yet either, he responds to her guesses and also makes his own guesses.
Good thing you didn't end this early after 7 minutes when the Mrs. basically figured out the whole plot. Incidentally, both Alan Rickman and Jeremy Irons have some of the best speaking voices. Well, Alan Rickman HAD. R.I.P.
This is my personal favorite out of the Die Hard series. Fun fact: The woman who played Simon’s girlfriend was actually in a Christian rock band. I remember reading that she hated playing this role as she was so violent.
And she's from California and since she didn't know German they made her a mute in a movie so she wouldn't have to learn German
They were also going to have her sing When Johnny Comes Marching Home but decided against it.
I saw and liked the hell out of this movie as a kid before I was introduced to the original later on in my teens.
Her name is Sam Phillips. She was a Christian singer early on before leaving for mainstream pop music as she wasn't comfortable with that labeling. I became a fan of her music with her album Martinis and Bikinis as she had such a great voice when I saw her as an opening act oh so many years ago. Though her hating this role is def something I did not know, so thanks for sharing!
It is truly heart breaking that we will never see Bruce Willis in an action movie again. I sincerely was moved to tears by the news that the legend couldn't do it anymore.
I'd always hoped they would adapt Die Hard Year One into a movie. Which featured old man John McClane kidnapped by a pyscho path and tortuing him as he has flashbacks to his days in the 70s as a beat cop. They would have had what's his name from Looper playing young John.
Actually, Bruce Willis has been the first actor to sell his digital likeness to a company that has digitally scanned him and is planning to replicate his image into movies.
This bit with Sam Jackson and the cop, with the pay phone was recreated in the Incredibles; when Frozone needed a drink from the water cooler.
I loved that scene in The Incredibles, just because of the reference.
The movie revealed a real security weakness in the Federal Reserve. One of the subway tunnels really did pass near the vaults. The Federal Reserve were forced to make changes because of a scenario they didn't think of.
they also shut down the Aqueduct after this movie and turned it into a Casino ;)
Rumor has it that the FBI had a little chat with the creative staff when this came out because their details were too accurate.
I saw a "Making of . . ." feature on this once. The part where the blow up the subway was not done with miniatures or cga. It was a giant sound stage made to look like a subway platform, a real subway car, and a lot of pyrotechnics. In other words, they really did blow stuff up for this movie.
Mrs. Movies is so intuitive, she figured out it was Gruber's brother in 6 minutes. Crazy!

The 4 gallon riddle seems like it would be tricky. However, all you have to do is take either jug, fill it up, pour it into the other. Any time the one you are pouring from is empty refill it and any time the one you are pouring into gets full empty it (while keeping the remains in the one you are pouring from) you pretty quickly end up with 4 gallons in the 5 gallon jug.
If you fill the 3 gallon jug first empty into the 5. Then fill it again and top off the 5 gal with 2 gal, leaving 1 gal in the 3 gal jug. Empty the 5 gal, add the q gal, the refill the 3... but what appears to have happened in the movie, fill the 5 gal, then fill the 3 FROM the 5 leaving 2 gal in the 5 gallon jug. Empty the 3 gal, pour the 2 gal into the 3 gal jug. Refill the 5 gal jug and the top off the 3 gal jug, leaving 4 gal.
I like John being THE cop, but it was nice in this one having the other cops be actually useful
Probably for the first time during one of these misadventures MaClane is actually in his jurisdiction.
Yeah, before this movie, the only other competent cop besides John was Al.
Funniest in the franchise. Willis and Jackson's chemistry was perfect.
Please try to get to the "Last Boyscout" with Bruce Willis and Damon Wayans. Also the little girl that play Jamie from Halloween. Pretty cheesy but a lot of action.

The cop you guys thought was played by David Harbour(Hopper from Stranger Things), was played by Robert Sedgwick, the brother of Kyra Sedgwick. He was also in Tales from the Darkside: The Movie (aka the Real Creepshow 3).
I actually thought it was david harbour in tales from the darkside movie too so I goigled it yep its jyra sedgwicks bro.
They look alike at times and seem to have tendency to make the same facial expressions.

I always liked the St. Ives riddle. The opening explosion cutting off "summer in the city"is my favorite action scene. And I love the "hook,line and sinker" line.

I have to say that I love that you don't edit out the times your children interrupt. It's always fun/endearing to see how you are with them. And color me impressed/disappointed Mrs. Movies. I'm impressed because you often (in the reactions I've seen) figure out the twists/plot ahead of time. I'm also disappointed for the same reason. I love to see people's reactions when they are totally surprised by a movie and you're robbing me of that satisfaction!!! But seriously though, I really enjoy your channel, and the Mrs. is by far the best I've seen at figuring stuff out.

This is perhaps my favorite Die Hard film. Bruce and Samuel make a BADASS team that we haven't seen since. I recommend you guys watch The Negotiator

It's my favourite of the series too. It's like a Bond film directed by Spike Lee - it's amazing.
I notice a lot of reactions skip it watching after the first two films most underated movie in the die hard series.

Travel as in like to visit or travel to other places. If you guys ever visit New York, you have Traveled there.
You need luggage when you travel. People used to travel with large cases called Trunks that held their possessions, hence an Elephant has 4 legs and because of its trunk it likes to travel.
my favorite comedic action movie scene of all times is when McClane blasts through the seating area with the Taxi and you only see his roof and tables and chairs flying. cracks me up every time. and yeah i agree, best DIE HARD movie.

Graham Greene who played that cop "Joe Lambert" (the native American guy) was also in the SF series "Defiance" (2013) which is a pretty good show. 3 seasons, free with ads right now on The Roku Channel.
He's also great in "Maverick" with Mel Gibson and James Garner.

I didn't know number Chester A. Arthur was, but I knew he was the vice president who became president when President James Garfield was assassinated, and I remembered Garfield's assassination for two dumb reasons: first, his name reminded me of Garfield the Cat, and second, because a stand up comedian was going on about how lame it was to be assassinated by "a disappointed office seeker."
I'm from Perù, living in Italy and since I've watched this movie I'll never forget that the USA had a president called Chester A. Arthur. One of those random facts that stick with you.
My favorite Die Hard film as well. Jackson and Willis are perfect together. One of the things I love the best is that all the cops are dedicated and good at their jobs, the opposite of the cartoonish caricatures in the first 2 films. Very refreshing.

There are actually 2 ways to solve the water jug puzzle, depending on which jug you fill first.
#1 Fill the 3 Gallon. Pour 3 gallons into 5 gallon. Refill 3 gallon. Pour 2 gallons into the 5 gallon, leaving 1 gallon of water in the 3 gallon jug. Empty the 5 gallon. Pour the 1 gallon of water into 5 gallon. Refill 3 gallon. Pour 3 gallons into the 5 gallon, giving you exactly 4 gallons.
#2 Fill the 5 Gallon. Pour 5 gallon into 3 gallon, leaving 2 gallons of water in the 5 gallon jug. Empty the 3 gallon. Pour the 2 gallons into 3 gallon. Refill 5 gallon. Pour 5 gallon into 3 gallon, giving you exactly 4 gallons left.
Best of the series. Pairing McClane with an everyman is fantastic, Jeremy Irons crushes, the plot is another switcheroo, and the stunt sequences are top notch.

Everyone one I've asked about why this is considered one of the best Die Hard movies AND one of the best movies of the 90's is that it gets right into the story without delay. No long boring set up; no waiting for "world building or character history; this is Die Hard. If you haven't seen the first two, that's your fault.
The action starts and the ride just keeps going. it has slower pauses but never actually stops. It's just really well done. as far as I'm concerned and also most of my buddies agree. Many won't agree; they'll stick to the original being the best and that's all good. But no one I know has ever accused this one of being bad.
For 4 gallons, fill the 3 gallon jug twice(6 gallons) and pour into 5 gallon jug. The second pour will leave 1 gallon left in the 3 gallon jug. Empty the 5 gallon jug, and pour the 1 gallon leftover from the other jug into it. Then fill the 3 gallon jug one last time and empty that into the 5 gallon jug which already has 1 gallon in it. Now you have 4 gallons.
I loved Jeremy Irons as a villain, probably the smoothest of all DH baddies.
The idea to include Samuel L Jackson was a masterstroke.
This was never written to be a Die hard movie, it was a screenplay called "Simon Says" that was changed to work as a Die hard film.
'Simon Says' was going to be a sequel to 'Rapid Fire' with Brandon Lee but after he was killed while making 'The Crow' they changed it the plot of the second half of the film to make it a Die Hard movie and made Simon Hans Gruber's brother.
I’m glad John McTiernan is back to direct another Die Hard movie.

This was the last movie I remember seeing in our town’s small local theatre before the big cineplex opened up and put them out of business.
I'm extremely disappointed most reactors to this movie don't immediately say "Hey, it's Scar!" the second Simon makes his first call.
Excellent choice for a sequel and great reactions for this film, guys!!!🎬👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽I think someone deserves an award for predicting it was Hans Grubers brother.🏆It is very hard to pick a favorite Die Hard film, between the first three. This one I would say is my favorite Die Hard buddy movie.

A friend of mine's dad is in this movie! He plays the guard at 19:23 that gets the shit stabbed out of him after unloading the shotgun. Lots of fun production stories. Says that John McTiernan was incredibly cool and helpful to work for. My friend was a child when she first saw the movie and was very upset by that scene, lmao.
I came very close to being in this movie and didn’t know it. When McClane and Zeus are hitting the ground at the pay phone, there’s a green tour bus on the street behind them. I’m right behind that tour bus in a blue delivery van. Never knew until I saw the movie.

in the TV version of the movie, McClane's sign at the beginning says 'I hate everyone'. Doesn't really have the same intent
The solution to the jug problem: fill the 3 gallon one, dump it into the 5 gallon jar. Fill it again and dump as much as you can to the 5 gallon jar. There is now 1 gallon left in the smaller one. Empty the 5 gallon one, put the 1 gallon there, refill the 3 gallon one and add it to the big jar. Now there is exactly (1+3) 4 gallons there.

I always loved how the intro went from your standard 90's intro scene, showing a city waking up, right into the story instead of slowly introducing a character.

There's plenty of roads that go across Central Park but they're underneath. They go below the level of the park itself and you walk across these roads by bridges or natural rock. Central Park is vast, about six blocks long before the first part ends at the Jaqueline Kennedy Reservoir.

The fact that it took a supposedly smart cop so long to figure out that it was related to Hans was the BIGGEST flaw in any movie I have ever seen. I was angry watching this in a theater.

As someone from a big city most of my life, the convenience appeals to me. I can get a 2 dollar slice and pepsi at 2AM, and thats worth the price of admission.
one small thing i love about this movie (and the first die hard) is how completely beat to shit willis and jackson look by the end. there's still a few "there's no way they actually could have survived that" scenes - though the movie's too fun to care - but unlike so many action movies you really feel the physical beating they take.

I think probably the easiest way to do that Math question was you fill the 5 gallon jug you pour from the 5 gallon jug to fill the 3 gallon jug which leaves you with 2 gallons in the 5 gallon jug. You dump out the 3 gallon jug. You transfer the 2 gallons into the 3 gallon jug. Then you fill the 5 gallon jug again and transfer 1 gallon from the 5 gallon jug into the 3 gallon which now leaves 4 gallons in the 5 gallon jug. Is that any easier?
Fill the 3, put it in the 5. Fill the 3 again. Fill the 5, 1 gal left in the 3. Dump the 5, put the 1 gal in the 5, fill the 3, put it in the 5, you have 4 gallons. The elephant always has a travel trunk (antiquated).
My favorite Die Hard. Great action, pacing, acting, music, and plot. My favorite scene was the Taxi through Central Park. You two are always watching my favorite movies and shows. Keep up the wonderful reactions!

Yep. Die Hard and Indiana Jones follow the same pattern: Amazing 1st entry, 2nd was a let down, 3rd was a return to form that rivals the 1st for quality.....and the much-delayed later entries are completely dispensable.

I am a night owl, and love food. So the food and the fact that it's always awake are the only things appealing about a big city to me.
