When I adopted the most beautiful Mustang in the world, my first thought was: "what have I done?"....... turned out to be one the best decisions of my life. He is a true friend. Please if you adopt, make sure you have the ability (or the ability to hire someone) to properly "train" and care for them. Its not all "tree-hugging" and "rainbows", it can get intense real quick.

I agree, I hope to adopt a mustang once my family and me get to Central/northern Idaho. Where I live now, we own 4 horses, we used to breed them. We don't anymore and have 2 of the original Mares, and each of them have one of there babys, ( both geldings) one mare is 33ish ( my horse) and she is slowed down some, she's a tough cookie ( she just pulled through an impacted colon, and sand colic, all the while with a pretty good heart murmur) but she has trouble getting started in the morning. I don't want THAT Day to come but IK it will eventually. I am also re starting a gelding that had been rushed in his training, he will kick, bite and buck a bit and has managed to get me once in the upper thigh, he doesn't bite as much and I can ride him bareback in a halter, he could be a great trail horse. God willing and Time allowing, I would love to take on a mustang ( probably a younger one) and train it to be an endurance\trail\hunting-pack horse.

We have mustangs out of the mountains in Oklahoma. Grullas are pretty common there. We have a young grulla mare and a buckskin dunn stud. They started a family and we now have a grulla colt. 😊
    Mustangs are amazing horses.

So I grew up on a ranch, I want to start training my own horses when I was about 18 (5-6 years ago) and I didn't have much money and my grandpa said that if you train a wild horse you dont have to fix anyone else's mistakes. Now we had some ranch horses that were a handful so I grew up on horses with a lot of energy that weren't trained well so I figured I could train a wild horse no problem. Boy was I in for a surprise. Luckily I bought the Clinton Anderson dvd's or I would still be out there fighting with those horses. It makes me chuckle when I see people say they want to learn how to train a wild horse. You better have a ton of grit and you better have real horsemanship knowledge because if you dont, you will only get frustrated, put yourself in dangerous positions, and won't get much of a horse. I would highly recommend Clinton Anderson's colt starting dvds.

From my experience with mustangs..These horses have been driven out of their home lands and are now kept on private land for the most part. In some cases they are over populated and in poor condition. They need to be homed. Sadly, In areas where they are "free" they are mostly seen as problematic and are being shot. Which is why they are trapped and kept on private lands and/or sold.
