I once bought a quarter horse stallion for one dollar. With papers. He looked so bad that the vet told us to ask for our dollar back because we got cheated. He proved to be King Ranch bred. Also a fully trained cutting horse. He was badly foundered and it took us 3 years to bring him back to full health.
It's so sad how some people totally neglect animals they get. Why get them if you are just going to neglect them? Really happy to hear you saved him. Would love for you to post pics of before and after. 3 years is a long time but you both did it.

My first horse was a pity buy at 50 dollars. He was so thin and hungry he laid down in the trailer to eat the crap on the floorboards as I was trailering him home. He was only 6 months old and was skin and bones. I had the vet out and he was appalled at his condition, gave me a feeding schedule, which I followed to the letter. He turned out to be the sweetest guy, a willing partner and a great all around horse. He was my partner for many years. I love seeing scarlet, she’s turning out to be a beautiful little mare. Great job seeing her potential.
I’ve been enjoying your stories of how you change a horse’s life for the better ❤ It’s a lot of work but you were the “angel” needed each time, bless you and good luck with your journey 💯💕🎈😍👏👏👏🌸

It is so sad to see them go through auctions because you never know where they might end up, but in this case, this little filly got very lucky and found a wonderful home. In return for your kindness, she has grown healthy, and blossomed into a beautiful young horse. I wish the two of you many happy years ahead. 🥰
I have such respect for the way you are training Scarlet. I've spent 40 years of my life with horses, including 15 years rescuing abused horses and caring for them in my own stable. Now I'm 71 and live with daily pain from arthritis and 4 surgeries. So I watch videos of horses and trainers. You are the best I've found so far. I admire you for your methods and knowledge. If I had not spend so many thousands of dollars on horses (and dogs) over my work life, I'd be able to afford joining and making a purchase for you on Amazon. Know that you are admired by so many quality horse people. Many other trainers use methods I don't agree with. Keep up the great work. (From Newfoundland, Canada)
These are so satisfying to watch, I'm back to watch it a second time. You literally do everything right from your pace with the horse to quarantine protocols to protect your herd, to sensitization without overloading etc. I have watched a few "rehab" videos on youtube and by and large I almost end up yelling "nooooooooo!" at the screen at least once, usually more, but your videos are the exception. I find myself saying "well done!" every time I watch one of yours. My family has been raising and training horses since the 1890s, I wish my grandpa and my youngest aunt were still around so I could show them your videos, they would have really enjoyed these as they were the two in my family that did the most rehabilitating of horses.
Nice-looking little mare, with hopefully, a great future. I had a similar experience many years ago, when I went to an auction and saw foal after foal going through, each making no more than a tenner, and nearly all going for meat. I resisted temptation for a while, but then I couldn't help myself and I bid on a little grey filly. Had her for twelve guineas, and it cost me more to transport that baby home. She wasn't much to look at, at first, and she only made eleven hands, but that's typical for a Welsh Mountain pony. I felt ridiculous riding her when I broke her in, four years later - she had no problem carrying me, but my feet nearly touched the floor! She grew into a fantastic kid's pony and went on to give a lot of children a great deal of pleasure. If only they all had that chance.
Thank you for your patience and kindness to Scarlet. I hope seeing how she blossoms will repay you threefold for all the heartache and energy you have had. Blessings!🥰🐴💕❤️

This little mare's lucky day was the day you bought her at the auction. What a pretty pretty mare. Love her name Scarlett! Sometimes the least expensive turn out to be the best horses. I especially love your $25 story, because I have one too.💕 When I adopted our little Mustang mare 15yrs ago, as a 2yo, it was the first time the BLM had come to Southern York Co, PA. One of the hottest days in July.😅 Horse nut that I am, it was the wrong thing to do, because the next day (Saturday) they had the auction, but this is when they had started doing the auctions differently. They were offering them for $125, rather than an actual auction. You just had to be the first one to fill out the form, get approved, and you were the proud new owner. I was 55yo at the time (now almost 70). Had horses since I was 16...and one of the 2yo mares caught my eye, and my then 12yo daughter was begging me to buy one. She was an awesome rider. Horses loved her. We didn't have the facilities to gentle one, but there was an awesome TIP trainer there from Southern NJ. She actually works for the BLM now. Anyway, around 4pm I found myself filling out the form. Went into the BLM trailer, handed the lady the form. Since they knew Kristen, I was automatically approved...and the lady says, "That'll be $25." I'm like, I thought it was $125. Her words exactly, "It's the end of the day, it's hotter than hell, and it's a mare. Just give me $25 and we'll call it a day."🤣 She left with Kristen at midnight, who put 30days on her, then we took over her training. We've had her for 15yrs now. Best mare I've ever owned. She totally took care of my daughter on many a trail ride. Smart as a whip and love her to death. Nobody believes she's a Mustang....and I love telling my $25 story, too. People always compliment us that she's such a beautiful horse, then ask....a Quarter Horse? Once someone said she was a mini-Warmblood.😅 I, literally, have to raise up her mane, as it falls on the wrong side, to show them her brand before they believe me.😆 One thing is for certain, once you have a Mustang, you'll always have a Mustang.❤
I so admire people like you who take these "hopeless" ones in and give them a life!! Thank you for being Scarlet's hero, and a hero to so many other horses!! ❤
I'm also experienced horse women, I thank you for your knowledge and love for taking on this filly. You are truly a special person! Love where you live!
Scarlett is a beautiful horse. She had a slow start but without you I don't think she would have made it. I love what you do for horses that most people aren't interested in. They grow to be pretty amazing.
It's so good to know that there are people like you who have a heart and take on a challenge. Don't even wanna think about what would had happened to this little girl if you hadn't stepped up and bought her. Keep up the good work!!
Thank you so much for the awesome update on Scarlett! Wow! She has come such a long way health-wise and in her training. You buying her that day was THE BEST thing that could have happened to her! You literally saved her life! I hope this winter proves to be more mild, so you can work with her and the rest of your horses more. ❤

The time commitment was daunting, to say the least, but oh, my! Scarlett has really blossomed! Wow! I never would have guessed it from the early footage of her as a foal. My hat is off to you! You're a HERO and a MIRACLE MAKER!
Scarlett is AWESOME and so are you for rescuing her and bringing her along. I loved this video---you may still be learning about editing, but I think you're also doing a great job with your channel too. God Bless!
I love to watch all the daily chores and training. I can almost smell the fresh air! I'm glad you picked her up and gave her a home. Looking forward to the next video. You're doing a great job.👏
Oh wow! Scarlett looks so different! I can see that she's going to be a really special horse when you've finished with her training. You have an amazing touch. It's been a weird couple of warm days here in the Boston area. So while you're getting snow & cold, it's going to hit 80° F today here! Unbelievable! I love watching your videos whenever I can. You have the best soothing voice. 🤗
Wow! A year has went by already! Doesn't seem that long ago. I hope she continues to blossom and gain trust everyday. She's really lovely. You've done well by her. Wonderful progress. Best wishes! I'll be watching and cheering for you both.
Recently found your channel. Really love your content. Wishing you much success. I can tell you treat your horses well and thats important to me. You give them the time they need....that seems to be rather rare but i love it.
What a heartwarming story. Your patience and dedication is remarkable. Scarlet blossomed into a healthy happy lady. I so enjoyed the scenes of your teaching and interaction with her. The respect and love between you two is so crystal clear. I hope you continue documenting and posting Scarlets journey.
We had a mustang yearly and my deceased husband had a AS. Degree in equine science from Scottsdale Arizona and chosen by CHAUNCEY STABLES WHO USED TO OWN WITH WAYNE NEWTON. THEY BOUGHT NABORR. SJ had the unique empathy to work with equine. And we were mindful of building relationships. Thank you for sharing. 🎉
Great story, she was fortunate to be rescued by someone as patient, kind and knowledgeable as you. It will be interesting to see more videos and follow her development. She is looking very good now!
Oh yes the Clever Cowgirl, greetings from London [UK] that was really interesting - thanks for sharing, yes we wanna see more of Scarlet, you are the only one for her...
She looks amazing by 11 months. Your hard work has really paid off. Don’t doubt your decision to rescue her. The alternative would have been unthinkable. Many thanks for all you do & I wish you great prosperity. xxxxx ❤️
What a precious girl, her crooked blaze is absolutely darling. It breaks my heart that so many horses and ponies have such traumatic or neglected lives, and then end up in a sale where they are judged to be unworthy of rescue due to their fear or poor physical condition. Thank goodness for people like you who can see their potential despite their rough appearance and are willing to invest the time, money, and care to help them recover and flourish. Seeing these poor horses learning to trust humans again just warms the heart like nothing else. Their transformations after all the TLC make me choke up every time. Every horse and pony deserves to live their best lives like Scarlet. What a lucky girl to have found a home with you ❤️
Please keep doing the updates on Scarlet. I love watching her grow and change. Her shiny coat is so pretty. Thank you for buying her. I hate to think that she might have ended up going to slaughter.
Thank you for doing this video - I know how much editing it takes to do this!! You are doing such a good job with Scarlett - love seeing the before and afters!! I refer to the Nicker Maker horse cookies as “Pony Crack” as I have not had 1 horse reject them and, for those cookies will get over fears a lot faster than the other flavors. They are kinda big for positive reinforcement training so I have busted them up into a few pieces for that. I am looking at a hip replacement this winter so I’m living vicariously through you and some other YTers even though I have 4 grown horses and 1 baby MFT who is still on his mamma waiting till I am able to work with them again. Thanks for showing us how it’s done with patience and kindness!! ❤❤❤
Scarlet is just beautiful! You are so knowledgeable about what a young horse needs. But the one attribute that I think makes you so successful is your patience. I don’t think a lot of people realize how important it is to sometimes “just let them be a horse”. You are such a wonderful person for doing this and finding the horses that nobody wants. Keep up the good work and I can’t wait to see more of Scarlet!!
She is a beautiful horse. It is great that you were able to buy her and be willing to work with her. I enjoyed seeing how far she has come since you have gotten her. Keep up the great work. Have a blessed rest of the weekend.
Wow-it was the kill pen and illness that blew her mind-My Warm Springs Indian Reservation filly stood on a hill exposed to the wind with yucky dusty donated hay at the rescue-til I found a ride for her-my own trailer with my sons truck) It only took 6 weeks to beef her up on alfalfa amazing grass hay beet pulp and dry oats barley and corn-plus vits minerals-and she was 6 weeks to halter and lead and lunge-all in 20 mins-she accomplished this-never forgot-willingly performed -and tie with a hay bag-but thank goodness no illness bad weather and kill pen-they call it that for many reasons-So happy you both are where you are now together-I love Scarlet-she is one heck of a beefy little filly-a nice mountain horse !
~~~ If you enjoyed Scarlett's journey don't forget to like and subscribe so you don't miss any of her future videos!~~~
Done, of course. Stewy’s video prompted that decision. Scarlett, too, is a sweetie.
Wow...look at the difference. You did such a good job !
Oh wow! Scarlett looks so different! I can see that she's going to be a really special horse when you've finished with her training. You have an amazing touch.
It's been a weird couple of warm days here in the Boston area. So while you're getting snow & cold, it's going to hit 80° F today here! Unbelievable!
I love watching your videos whenever I can. You have the best soothing voice.
🤗
Wow! A year has went by already! Doesn't seem that long ago. I hope she continues to blossom and gain trust everyday. She's really lovely. You've done well by her. Wonderful progress. Best wishes! I'll be watching and cheering for you both.
What a heartwarming story. Your patience and dedication is remarkable.
Scarlet blossomed into a healthy happy lady. I so enjoyed the scenes of your teaching and interaction with her. The respect and love between you two is so crystal clear.
I hope you continue documenting and posting Scarlets journey.
We had a mustang yearly and my deceased husband had a AS. Degree in equine science from Scottsdale Arizona and chosen by CHAUNCEY STABLES WHO USED TO OWN WITH WAYNE NEWTON. THEY BOUGHT NABORR. SJ had the unique empathy to work with equine. And we were mindful of building relationships. Thank you for sharing. 🎉
She's gorgeous!!
I'm so grateful that you saved her.❤❤❤
Great story, she was fortunate to be rescued by someone as patient, kind and knowledgeable as you. It will be interesting to see more videos and follow her development. She is looking very good now!
I can’t wait to follow her progress and growth! I love your patience and calm training methods.
Oh yes the Clever Cowgirl, greetings from London [UK] that was really interesting - thanks for sharing, yes we wanna see more of Scarlet, you are the only one for her...
She looks amazing by 11 months. Your hard work has really paid off. Don’t doubt your decision to rescue her. The alternative would have been unthinkable. Many thanks for all you do & I wish you great prosperity. xxxxx ❤️
Scarlet is a beautiful filly. Congratulations, you took a chance and your hard work and patience have paid off.
You are such a very intelligent young lady, you do so well w/ all your animals! You are a blessing!😊😊❤❤❤
Be glad you rescued her. All the work will be worth it in the end. She's a good-looking horse. Hang in there!
What a precious girl, her crooked blaze is absolutely darling. It breaks my heart that so many horses and ponies have such traumatic or neglected lives, and then end up in a sale where they are judged to be unworthy of rescue due to their fear or poor physical condition. Thank goodness for people like you who can see their potential despite their rough appearance and are willing to invest the time, money, and care to help them recover and flourish. Seeing these poor horses learning to trust humans again just warms the heart like nothing else. Their transformations after all the TLC make me choke up every time. Every horse and pony deserves to live their best lives like Scarlet. What a lucky girl to have found a home with you ❤️
Please keep doing the updates on Scarlet. I love watching her grow and change. Her shiny coat is so pretty. Thank you for buying her. I hate to think that she might have ended up going to slaughter.
The shine of her coat, is marvelous! What a change, from $25, with your love, and hard work! You should be so satisfied.
Thank you for doing this video - I know how much editing it takes to do this!! You are doing such a good job with Scarlett - love seeing the before and afters!! I refer to the Nicker Maker horse cookies as “Pony Crack” as I have not had 1 horse reject them and, for those cookies will get over fears a lot faster than the other flavors. They are kinda big for positive reinforcement training so I have busted them up into a few pieces for that. I am looking at a hip replacement this winter so I’m living vicariously through you and some other YTers even though I have 4 grown horses and 1 baby MFT who is still on his mamma waiting till I am able to work with them again. Thanks for showing us how it’s done with patience and kindness!! ❤❤❤
Scarlet is just beautiful! You are so knowledgeable about what a young horse needs. But the one attribute that I think makes you so successful is your patience. I don’t think a lot of people realize how important it is to sometimes “just let them be a horse”. You are such a wonderful person for doing this and finding the horses that nobody wants. Keep up the good work and I can’t wait to see more of Scarlet!!
So good to see you work with patience & kindness with this youngster
Wow - she has developed into a beauty! 😍😍😍
So glad you saved this precious girl 💕. She is very pretty, can't wait to see future videos of her progress 👍
She is a beautiful horse. It is great that you were able to buy her and be willing to work with her. I enjoyed seeing how far she has come since you have gotten her. Keep up the great work. Have a blessed rest of the weekend.
Just a beautiful horse. So good of you to give her such a huge chance at a better and healthier life.
You did a very good job! She looks so beautiful!
Wow-it was the kill pen and illness that blew her mind-My Warm Springs Indian Reservation filly stood on a hill exposed to the wind with yucky dusty donated hay at the rescue-til I found a ride for her-my own trailer with my sons truck) It only took 6 weeks to beef her up on alfalfa amazing grass hay beet pulp and dry oats barley and corn-plus vits minerals-and she was 6 weeks to halter and lead and lunge-all in 20 mins-she accomplished this-never forgot-willingly performed -and tie with a hay bag-but thank goodness no illness bad weather and kill pen-they call it that for many reasons-So happy you both are where you are now together-I love Scarlet-she is one heck of a beefy little filly-a nice mountain horse !
She looks beautiful and Thank you for doing a wonderful job with her ❤
