Four On Six by Wes Montgomery is one of my all time favorite tunes. It's so much fun to play the mix of bassline, single note melody and chords, all included in the 4 on 6 melody.
This Four On Six Wes Montgomery transcription is being explained to you note for note, slow and easy. There is also a slow tempo playthrough at the end of the guitar tutorial.
The melody / head is not really that hard to play, although the tempo is a bit high. But fear not, I offer the Four On Six Backing Track at fast AND slow tempo, so you can start to play along immideatly.
I also made the 4 on 6 tab , which also can be downloaded from the link above. The Wes Montgomery Four On Six tab includes standard music notation as well.
There may be people, who'll ask me, why I don't use my thumb for an authentic Wes Montgomery lesson. Well, I'm not much of a thumb single note player. Octaves and chords, no problem, but single notes, not so much. I don't think it's necessary. Use your thumb if you want to and if not, it still sounds good, don't you think? After all I'm not Wes Montgomery, but Sandra Sherman adn I have my own style;-)
I tried to make my Four On Six lesson as easy and short as possible. But yet I explain the comping note for note, slow and easy, so you won't miss anything. It's really easy to follow.
I hope you like my Four On Six Wes Montgomery lesson and give this video a fat thumbs up. You can purchase the Four On Six Wes Montgomery backing track and tab from the links in this description box. Please take the time to read the short download instructions! Ther is no email involved, direct automated tab download.

Another excellent lesson, with remarkable dexterity and precision by Her Majesty. I love it Sandra!
Thank you, Louis! One of my all time favorite tunes. But then again, I love so many Montgomery tunes 😁
I bought a jazz compilation cd in the early 90’s which led to a love of jazz..this song was on it and it remains very special to me. Thanks so much for a fabulous lesson 😊😊
We may have had the same compilation 😊
Four On Six was one of the first Wes-Montgomery-Songs I ever heard and loved - thanks for this great lesson!!!
It's a really cool tune 🎶
Makes my quarantine weeks a lot less boring :-)
I'm quite busy too 😊
Thank you so much for the great lesson Sandra, this was very helpful.
LOVE YOU SANDRA! your often my starting place for a new standard to hammer...
Wes was da man! I love all of his tunes and renditions. This one's dear to me. Thank you for your efforts!
He sie still IS da man. His legacy continues.
Great guitarist great tune and Great teacher Sandra! 🙂 Thanks!
❤️❤️ ❤️
Perfect, one of my favorite songs of Wes, and also with a part of the solo that is always the most difficult to extract in jazz. Thanks a lot Sandra, now I'll wait for your news on Sunday!
I'm planning a solo toturial with several transcribed Chorusses of Wes' solo.
You obviously don't need a clown like me to say so, but your playing is seriously so smooth. No wasted motion, I'm envious. Something to aspire too. Great lesson.
I like Clowns! My favorite is Puddles Pity Party - awesome singer :-)
Kidding aside, thanks for your kind words. The main goal is to move your hands as little as possible. The less movement, the smoother and faster things become.
Great lesson! I would only suggest learning it with fewer reaching up and down the neck, like the intro of C-7 on the "A" string on the 3rd fret. Also starting the melody of the B-flat on the "D" string on the 7th fret. And the last part of the phrase starting with F# at the "B" string at the 7th fret, etc. It makes an easier pattern keeping your hand in a neutral position with the phrase.
Thanks a lot Sandra!
Super! And the backing track is just great!
Thank you, Robert. It was fun to make the backing tracks.
Wow, wow, wow! What a cool song!!!
I think so too 😊
Very good !!!!!
Thank you! Glad it's helpful 😊
Great lesson Sandra
Glad you dig it 😊

Glad my tutorial helped you. Keep swingin 🎶 🎸
So beautiful! Thanks...
Glad you like it. Keep groovin' 🎶🎸
Superb instruction.
Thank you ❤️
You are the cool, guitar-playing aunt I never had.
I do a little cheat and play the turnaround thing from the Db shape (end of phrase 4 ) up at the 8th fret rather than cowboy chord position
Great tune Sandra well done and thank you, your lesson was as usual good to follow for beginners like me.
Glad I met your skill level 😊. Keep swingin 🎶 🎸
thx for this lesson (well explained) - thumbs up!
Thx, Alex! ❤️

Thank you, Brian! Isn't Wes the best? ❤️
I'm well. In quarantine (we have a total lockdown), numbers decreasing quickly. A lot to do for me these days. Stay safe, my friend ❤️
Sorry... I know I shouldn’t reply to a “reply”, but your numbers are going down? That is a total blessing! That should be front page news these days. Take care!

Soooo nice,thank you…☮️🎶🔛🌎
Thanks for listening
Sweet!
❤️❤️❤️
I like your charts, they are just like the jazz guy at my local music store used to write.
he had claimed to be in a wedding band with DiMeola in the 70s they played a lot of bopped versions of Bossa, back then I think Sinatra recorded with Jobim so everybody wanted to hear it!
Wow, must have been wild times, in a wedding band with Al DiMeola.
Danke vielmals
Freut mich, dass es dir gefällt 😊
Great lesson, thx! GREETINGS from QLD AUSTRALIA
thanks, master
❤️❤️❤️
bumpin on the sunset is my favorite Wes Montgomery tune
That's a good one for sure!
@@GuitarversumSandraSherman just curious, how did find out about Wes? I am sure not while sipping on Kaffee und Kuchen ;)
a personal favorite, this is going on the stand, Thank You...! B-)
Really happy you like it! ❤️

when will you teach a master class of Naima? (Coltrane) ;).. love this song,,!! saludos desde mi casa en barcelona :)
Thank you! Hope it fand quarantine less boring 😊
Nice video - even though this is one of my least favorite songs as a listener! As a player, this was most helpful.
Sandra, I've been struggling with In Your Own Sweet Way by Wes, I have the chord melody part pretty well figured but I'd love it if you did an analysis of Wes's solo bits on that song
It's a bit specific, but ket's see what I can do.
What made you pic 4 on 6? This is one of my favorite from Wes among many more
Sandra you are the BOMB!!! THE BEST!!! Much Thanks for all your effort, love the way you teach!!
It's such a cool tune and has so many interesting things in a playable short head. Bassline, Rhythm kicks, chords and single note melody.

Hello Sandra, Sandra, i'm from brazil, state of acre. I love your videos. A hug
Abraços do Brazil 🇧🇷, meu amigo.
❤
Great lesson. Would be great if you would grow through the scales that can be used to improvise over the progression.
Maybe in another lesson. I can't put it all in one video. Attention span of people has decrease by 90% ever since social media got popular :-)
@@GuitarversumSandraSherman Totally understandable. Thank you so much.
Indifference valse Sandra please
Mach doch mal wieder Chord Melody.
Bitte.
hi sandra. Thanks for your great job. On question: on the bar 7 for the theme , we can read on the real book score G A A . You play G G slide A ?
Yes, I slide g into a, that's correct.
Sandra. Nice slow version of this classic. I have smaller hands and those stretches on the original with Bbma7 Gm11, Abm11, Am4 is hard on my hand. You are approaching that differently. please explain. Thank you. What type of guitar are you playing. Barry
Yes, you can play it using the m11 chords. But most people use just the Guide Tone voicings, the way I explained in the video.
As for my great. I have a video, where I show all my gear and amp settings.
Just search for "Jazz guitar gear Guitarversum".
Hi Sandy, surely we are in the key of G and not F aren't we?
The song is in G dorian
What does a "head" mean? You said there's a 32 bar head. Thx
The head is the melody of the song.
@@GuitarversumSandraSherman thank you. Love your tutorials by the way.
Was that where a little piece of 3rd stone from the sun came from?
I don't know what you're mean.
@@GuitarversumSandraSherman I could hear where Jimi Hendrix took something form this ,maybe wrong, love your lessons keep it up always look forward to your work coming up on my to watch list
Key center is actually Bb not F.
Well, it switches between G dorian (Fmajor) and G aeolian (Bb major).
You look great..you look slim
Thank you! Lost some weight 😊
