- Hello I’m Sophie. Welcome to the beginning of my sewing journey, come along with me through all the mistakes and seam ripping! And hopefully feel some solidarity that there are others bumbling their way through this hobby.

Inspired by Emma (2020) and Bridgerton, as I’m sure many others have been, I am going to start sewing Regency clothes. As I am quite new to historical costuming this is my first time making something from this period.
This first video is about the construction of a shift or chemise, the base layer of all regency outfits. A basic shift is simple enough that no pattern is required. I have drafted this pattern using rectangles and triangular gores getting measurements from my body as a guideline.
Disclaimer I am very much an amateur
sewist and make many mistakes and use questionable at best techniques

This has been so helpful! I'm just making my own shift at the moment and you perfectly showed solutions to a bunch of things I was struggling with.
omg thank you for explaining the sleeves!
I loved it. I'll try do by myself
That bias tape ironing hack is awesome! Thanks for the video ☺️
Looks great! Good tip on the bias binding - I either buy it or struggle and almost burn myself!!!!!
I can’t remember where I saw someone do it, but it’s a life saver
