    Hello 👋 Isn't that a 2Band badger instead of a Silvertip one?

A 24inch knot would be good for applying wallpaper paste. 😉

    Hello Terry,
I've got two questions for you. First, when are you planning to produce your next video. I've just become a subscriber and enjoying your thorough presentations and wanted to know if there were more in the pipeline for this channel? Second, about a month ago I purchased a 6/8s Brookes & Crookes from someone that never was shave ready from the get go. I had the razor honed locally by a shop, but created more damage to the blade where I really don't get any type of comfortable shave from it. I get a better shave from my Dovo Shavette than I do from the razor. My question is, to have the razor re-honed and 'corrected' for its imperfections will cost $25 as opposed to looking at either, inexpensive Filamonicas, Hayashi's or Gold Dollars. I am in my 60's, so I am not new to wet shaving, but am very respectful of what a straight edge can do. Any guidance would be appreciated. And thanks for answering both questions.

Hi Andrew thank you for subscribing to my channel. I intend on producing more videos once the weather gets warmer and we have more sunlight. My bathroom has poor lighting unfortunately. I work in the movie industry and currently things are really busy for me which leaves little time to plan, take and edit videos. I should be making more videos sometime in the spring. I also need to make a shave brush restoration video series!

Now in regards to the straight razor you had honed, would you know if they properly created a bevel? My initial hunch is that the person who honed your razor might be used to only working on kitchen knives. If that's the case his highest grit may only be 4k. A straight razor needs to be finished to at least 8K to shave and at least 10k+ to be anywhere near a comfortable shave. If you own a barber hone perhaps you can finish it yourself? You shouldn't have to pay $25 to get it honed again. The person who did it for you should either do it properly or give you your money back.

@@modernshaver3356 Hi Terry, the rehoning would be done by a different person. The razor was honed in the back of a barber shop, I believe using 'power equipment' not stones, but I don't know that for sure. I am leaning towards getting another razor that is properly honed and using the other someday after I learn proper honing technique. Thanks for the feedback and look forward to seeing the new videos in spring.

@@andrewweis3028yes I think that would be a good idea. You can use that as your practice blade. I hope it wasn't too expensive. Do you have a quality strop as well? That's as just as important as a properly honed blade.

@@modernshaver3356 I learned a lesson from that purchase. I will get myself a quality strop and am thinking of either a Filamonica 13 Novodur, Diamond Hayashi Puma or Toyo Shaver. The Fillie is the most expensive and the other two are about $40. Any thoughts?? Thanks. Andrew

I just got my first silver tip from China for cheap. It’s soft and has a lot of backbone, but it doesn’t let go of the lather. Really annoying. I’m hoping it will break in soon and start releasing lather.

Knife to the Face I have heard some shavers use a cup of hot water and 1 tablespoon of vinegar to help soften the hairs.

I feel like 800 and 1000 are to close in grit. Ur again depends on the stone type and how garbage the label is lol, I actually bought the 75mm mew yesterday and I’m doing a review when or if it comes in lol. I did also buy it’s little brother the 24mm and I got it for a pair, they’re gorgeous brushes

Does the type of metal matter for a straight razor? My brother bought me a Damascus straight razor. I'm wondering if the type of metal will effect the sharpening process in any way.

    • @modernshaver3356

Micah in most cases the type of metal does matter in terms of how well the edge can maintain its keenness. Damascus comes in high quality and low quality. A lot of lower quality Damascus blades come from Pakistan. This does not mean they are poor quality but they usually are inferior.

24 Ince knots? You could paint a wall with 24 inch. I think you mean 24mm knots.

Interesting .... I find that the Yaqi Silertip is my lowest PR index rated brush ( a 2 on the 1-10 scale )I own ....meaning it lays over extremely easily and has very little back bone ! My Yaqi Barber Pole Mew Brown brush like you have there I rate at a 7 on the PR index... if interested you can see my Yaqi brush review video here ruclips.net/user/edit?o=U&video_id=CZKFAUZzO84 Kit
