I want to thank you geofatboy for teaching me how to shave with a safety razor, because of my job I need to have a baby smooth shave everyday, and the Gillette cartridges would cost 1/20 of my salary every month due to the inflation in my country.
You helped me to make the most of my salary so I can afford food and when I had no fatherly figure to ask you were present so many thanks for your videos.

9 years ago I was sick and tired of paying for cartridge type razors and learned that double edge razors and razor blades were still being manufactured and used. I watched a lot of your videos back then and gave me a good feel of what to do when DE shaving. Based on your recommendation back then, I bought a Merkur 34C HD. 9 years later I'm very much using that same razor and saved hundreds of dollars during that time. Thank you Mr. Geofatboy.

Synthetic brush hair also does not need to be soaked prior to the shave. You sure covered a lot in a short time period on this video!

Thank you for your helpful and informative videos. Been shaving with a Gillette 5-blade cartridge for years. Shaving in the shower, shaving every other day, I get an estimated 50 shaves out of a single cartridge. Planning to go to DE, probably a Henson medium. Oh man, so many variables. I really would like to get the titanium version, but will first have to add up all the accessories before I decide which trigger to pull (Citori Superlight analogy there). Looks like I'll be shaving after the shower rather than during.

With shaving brushes losing hair. I've been using them since 1964. They all do it over time. Speaking as an artist and illustrator the hairs of premium, sable, hand made brushes do the same. They start to go bald after use. One has to clean brushes right down to the furell. Hanging upside down and drying carefully helps to prevent the problem.

To clean or disinfect your brush (for those who cut themselves and continue to lather over with their brush), mix some mild baby shampoo with a little alcohol or Dr. Bronner's castile soap and just wash it in the sink or your shaving bowl.
I clean mine this way every month or so. It performs better when you regularly clean or wash it. Just don't leave it in too long.

I also read a few times in a variety of sources that silvertip brushes are really delicate. This video is informative overall, but I wonder about the care one must show in regards to silvertip badgers in particular. Should I avoid circular motions? What other tips must I follow in order to make it last? For as you know they are quite expensive. Thanks for the video.

Love your channel Geofatboy, thx to your advice I made the switch to safety razor a few months ago and I can't believe it took me so long. I wonder what is the life expectancy of a good badger brush, mine is 30 years old at least and still feel like it's up for another 30.lol is this expected or am I an exception? I did pay a pretty penny for it though.

Great video Geo. So I go to the Greek Orthodox Church, And know many Greek people and I can tell that you’re Greek, Would you like to talk about that sometime in one of your non shaving related videos? I think a lot of us would be interested

Anything really, If you go the Orthodox Church? The Greek culture, Whatever you can think of. I just know that I’ve found the Greeks to be the greatest people I’ve ever known and when I realized you were Greek too I thought "That’s a good guy right there"

    Hello,
I really enjoy your videos. I have recently switched to shaving with a safety razor. I do have a question that maybe you or another person may answer. When you use your brushes in your videos I always notice "holes" that form in the bottom of the brush after you dip your brush in hot water. The shave brush I have does not have those crater like holes after dipping it into hot water. Why is this? Thanks.

I read somewhere online that alcohol based aftershaves are not good for skin in the long run. They can cause dryness and irritation. Personally it makes my skin very tight and I have to apply something soothing afterwards. What is your view on this matter ?

    • @geofatboy
      @geofatboy  4 года назад +1

That's true-I've mentioned it in many videos. Many Gents prefer alcohol free balms: shavenation.com/search?q=aftershave+balm

better then boar cheaper in the long run no break in .my Simpson Trafalgar is the best brush on the market today it's like buying a $200 badger hairbrush, no cleaning the brush, no need for a brush stand, fast drying time, well not fall apart like a badger hair or boar can, cheap to buy, I have owned it for 5 years with no hair loss with no problems wheelchair Larry Merry Christmas

Hi from the UK Geo! Absolutely love watching your videos. I was a bit apprehensive about starting to use a double edge razor. Had one for about 4 months sat in the bathroom draw but never used it, after watching your videos I’m glad to say I’m now 3 months in and shaving is now more of an experience than a chore. Your videos put me at ease and they are full of great information. Would you be able to make a video of your top 10 shaving soaps or creams as I’m currently just using a Wilkinson sword one and would like to try something different also do you ship to the UK as I would love a Shave Nation lather bowl and coffee cup! Keep up the great work and have a great shave, have a great day! Regards, Nate.

This is almost what I asked for weeks ago. I wanted a more detailed explanation of why things cost what they do. The handle material and design makes sense, the more experience or elaborate the higher the price.
But why is one badger hair more than another?
Of the five or so types you rattled off, which one is softer, or had more backbone. And does this effect the price?
Why is one companies nylon so much more expensive than another?
What company makes the best brush bad on your years of experience?
    Etc...
I want info to be a better and more informed shopper.

I think the answer can be related to: Why does Versace or Hugo Boss charge $700 for a T-shirt? It's because some people like to pay $700 and some people want to pay $20 That being said, a shaving brush shouldn't cost you the shirt off your back. Choose one based on your budget and what appeals to you: bit.ly/AllBrushesSN
