Homeschooled my children. I even ran an umbrella school for homeschoolers at one point. I ran an agency that helped homeschoolers find curriculum, etc. Son went into the military upon graduation right after 9/11, now a manager for a company in Atlanta. He is totally hands on, organized, disciplined and as he says I get to play with life size Tonka trucks. But he uses more Geometry, and Physics than probably any other topic other than Grammar. Has to write reports. Pull those children and homeschool them!

Your mom allowed you to move in so that you can still have jobs and work but someone is around to take care of your children and take turns with you to school your kids.

I think it is scary how a whole generation of mothers think keeping their child at home to "learn" instead of in a public school where you can learn so many different ideas by talking to all different types of students is a good idea. What curriculum are you following? Love your country no matter what? Buy a gun when you can? It's dangerous to stay with like-minded people.

@@hemlock1881 Yikes you make homeschooling sound like torture. It’s okay if it’s not for you or your family. That is why we all have a choice as parents. If my child were miserable I wouldn’t continue homeschooling him. I am actually seeing the complete opposite. He is flourishing. We get to focus on the areas he needs help in like things he didn’t completely get when he was in public school. It’s hard for a teacher to focus on one student when there are 24 others in the class. That’s what I love about homeschooling. My child is getting more one on one attention. Again, it’s not for everyone and it appears as though you have the wrong idea about it.

I made a deal with all of the teachers at my daughter's school. Told them to never ask my daughter to do their bidding. Doesn't matter if she doesn't study, doesn't matter if she doesn't do her homework, I don't care. I want her to want to learn whatever she thinks is interesting for her. I trust her because she truly is smarter than my wife (her mother) so I want her to have her own path. This doesn't mean I don't guide her but I'm trying to make her see things other children don't. While she is in public school, she does private study, kind of private school where she does her homework with help because it is very important to be able to ask for help in life and she have to learn that your days are precious so you should get rid of boring stupid chores they give you at school, as fast as you can and as easy as you can. I always was a man of "how to finish something easier and faster?". This served me well so I wish my daughter thinks before she acts, every time. You don't learn this in public school but there's lessons to be learned in public schools as well.

    • @lyndahope
      @lyndahope Год назад +7

@@becky7637 The board member was mad because the school (at least up here in Montana, I'm not sure about other states) looses funding. The school gets a certain amount of money per student per year. We were attending our rural school which is a 2 room school house with only 6 students. When I pulled both my children (4th grade and 1st grade at the time) the school dropped to 4 students and the school lost some of their allotted funds for the remainder of the year. I am not using an online school program but instead using a program that was recommended to me by one of my former teachers. Both my kiddos now 5th and 2nd grades are thriving and so much happier. They still see their friends but have a lot more hands on learning and we can go more in depth with subjects. If either of them are struggling we can take our time to make sure they understand the topic at hand.

      • Introduce more chlorophyll-rich foods into your diet, such as seaweed, kelp, dulse blue-green algae, spirulina, and chlorella. These plants contain rich minerals, including iodine, that bind up the receptors site in your thyroid so that any radioactive iodine that you end up being exposed to will be unable to harm your thyroid. These foods also contain potent antioxidants, like selenium, that prevent destructive free radical activity and cancerous growth, as well as chelating agents that bind to toxins and eliminate them from your body.
      • Eat antioxidant-rich foods of every color, especially cherries, blueberries, pomegranates, yams, and sweet potatoes. The variety of antioxidants found in these foods help your body to mop up free radicals and toxins.
      • Drink six to eight 8-ounce glasses of filtered water every day to flush and hydrate your system.
      • Consider taking vitamin C, E, and D to assist antioxidant actions within your body. Also, alpha lipoic acid is a nutrient that protects cells from radiation damage.
      • Herbs like dandelion, peppermint, and chrysanthemum help the body detoxify.
      • Undergoing a medically supervised detox program like the Tao of Wellness Detox Retreat can support your body's cleansing function

My son is kindergarten age this year. Thank God we got to see the true colors of the public school system before we enrolled any of our children.
I’ve been teaching him to read for 2 months using the book “Teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons.” He can already read short stories. You don’t need public school if you’re willing to sacrifice what’s necessary in order to save your children’s minds.

Now as somebody who works in public schools, I can safely say that this generation is screwed. Candace is 100% right. These are not schools, they are indoctrination camps.

My husband was homeschooled when he was a kid, in the mid-late 80's and 90's in Florida. He had a very interesting, even idyllic, homeschool experience. His parents were older and semi-retired, and my husband and his sister were their second set of kids. (They raised their first set in the 60's and 70s, in public school.) In the late 80's his parents bought a live-aboard sailboat and did the boating/sailing subculture thing. Early in his childhood, his parents taught them both the essentials-- how to read, how to write, and basic math. But everything after that was led by their own interests. He was into computers and math. His sister was really into art and making things. They did a modified form of 'unschooling', combined with correspondence school to comply with certain state requirements for a formal curriculum, which covered additional lessons, like geography, history, etc.
The way my husband described it, the first few hours of the morning he'd zoom through his required correspondence school lessons, often doing month's worth of work in a week (and as a result, becoming very advanced in certain subjects). The rest of the day he would do whatever he wanted, so he'd read, go fishing or swimming, write programs on his basic computer (no internet), help his dad work on the boat, and hang out with other boat kids when they were docked at the marina. He developed a tight group of friends his age, and they did lots of kid stuff. But he also spent a lot of time talking to adults of all ages.
Here was the result: For one thing my husband is very good at talking to people. Adults would very often comment how mature he was for his age. He finished his high school lessons at 13, and sold his first piece of software at the same age. Took his GED at 15 and enrolled in college at 16. Started his first company at 24. He's extremely good with his hands. He can fix anything. He's also just really polite and really humble (he'd never talk about all this himself). Today he's a world-class programmer and runs several small businesses and does software consulting. His sister did well too. She married an architect and became a realtor.
The one thing that was difficult for him was when he got to college and had to learn to interact with 'the system' made up of public school kids. His new peers partied a lot, drank a lot, dressed and spoke differently, and were all older than him by 2 years. And he was this smart, nice nerdy kid who just wanted to learn. He adjusted fine, though it took him about a year to learn how to fit in and 'be cool'. Still, he excelled in his classes and his professors loved him.
I was a public school kid myself, and as someone who struggled with it, I'm pretty sold on homeschooling. It's not without its challenges, but if you are willing to make the early sacrifices required set it up for your kid, it's superior. Homeschool is about teaching kids how to teach themselves, so they develop internal motivation. Public schools teach kids external motivation only, where they only do things to get good grades or avoid being punished. I think to get the most out of homeschooling, embed it in a lifestyle that provides you with a well-rounded 'life-education'. I.E, getting outside, making things, interacting with neighbors and older people, cub scouts, sports, mentorships, whatever. There are so many ways to do it. We just had our first baby, and we're planning to homeschool.

When I asked the principal about the transparency about the sexualized content in the library the principal defended the content in the name of diversity. He also basically said there is no transparency and no opting out of books. At the same time my kids cannot say the word "Valentine's Day" it is instead "Kindness Day" since common US Holiday names are offensive. So much for diversity.
