Bro, that is some sweet Lamellar! You did a great job man, thanks for the walkthrough.
The Byzantine era certainly had some of the best looking gear imo
Also, RIP your work table with those deep ass cuts lmao.

I had a friend that made this out of plastic from barrels. Worked great for re-enacting & it was covered by our club colours😁

What?! Armor today? You did an amazing job! Wow. My partner sews, and was commenting how good a job you did, as she watched. Kitten was a highlight for her too…Her adopted cats and our dog, always give the “stamp of approval,” by hanging out during craft and quilting projects. 😉She says Kitten was giving you two thumbs up!

if you wetten the lamellar slats for a few hours then bake it till dry, you can actually harden the leather a fair bit!

I think the cat stole the bow!
I assume this is too thin for SCA heavy fighting. Am I right there?
If you were going to boil it, would it be before or after punching the holes?
I love the look of the layering too! It coming together in the center gives it a cool depth to the look. My second hand piece is a straight wall of lines, and doesn't look nearly as good.

leather armour is not optimal for SCA i would say. would love to do one with bronze plates.
i would boil it first becus the leather tends to shrink a bit.
my thinking whas it would give better protection ass well.
when the plates overlap in this way.

Doing the edges with a box cutter like that must have been quite tedious, and looked a bit risky. Would sanding the edges a bit have given you a similar effect with less time and risk? I think it could give it a cool textured look.

A tip for anyone else making leather lamelar (if you want it to be more functional) is to pour boiling water from a kettle onto the scales before tieing together; this will harden the outside a little. Oil them afterwards to be more weather resistant, too.

Also, how long (approximately) is the "long time" that it took to make this?
