Early days you were as wooden as an old barn, these days you’re one of the most compelling presenters going around Dan. You’ve clearly worked your arse off to master your craft. Kudos mate.
Brilliant review Dan and thank you so much for it as now I am totally resolved that I ordered the 2023 Defender 90-X rather than the V8. I already own the 2013 Jaguar XKR with the same V8 platform and that is where that engine is truly happy to be! Looking forward to more of your fine and honest reviews!
A far more honest and realistic review than some others (e.g. TG magazine giving it 9/10) that have overpraised the Defender v8, maybe because the Defender name being an institution, a little bit of a rose-tinted outlook creeps in.
Probably Land Rover's last hurrah Defender with a V8, worth every penny in that respect. I want a fan at first, especially of the JLR build quality and reliability, however, I could live with it! I am sure.
Well sure it's beautiful, LR used to sell it with the P400 under the bonnet, which to me is still the best option to get, it's a mild hybrid and it's a straight-6, you can't go wrong with that. It's just so bloody expensive...
Great review once again Dan. Though I have to say after watching this Land Rover’s model line up is all getting a bit ridiculous now. There was a time when a defender was the workhorse, a disco was the ultimate family bus that could handle anything and the Range Rover is a luxury 4x4. We now have a defender which is over £100,000 having a complete identity crisis. Surely if you want the hot rod you get the sport SVR which can handle the grunt for similar money?
@@alexclipper7608 yep, side by side the Defender looks way meaner than a Sport SVR, the problem is the Defender always looks weird on camera, especially from the back. It has to be seen in person
@@mememachine5244 They can't make defenders fast enough to keep up with demand. In 110 version there actually more spacious.Plus you can get a 7 seater if so desired unlike a Range Rover.
Excellent review .... the issues with the ride on B roads are more likely due to the shorter wheel base of the 90 .. The 110 soaks up the bumps and would give a better ride ... wonder how it would compare to the old model but tweaked by twisted with the corvette V8 lump in
When you buy one of these, you'll get a personal letter of thanks from the Chancellor of the Exchequer for your future contribution to government fuel tax coffers. Agree that maybe better for a non supercharged v8 one though.
They should have taken the Raptor approach. With more power, more suspension travel, and some beefier boxed wheel arches this would be a more likable package.
Based on adding the 5.0L engine to the Defender lineup, I'd say there is no deal with BMW and its V8, as speculated for many years. Otherwise they would've added it to this car. It makes no sense squeezing such an old engine in a new platform. Or what am I missing? Don't get me wrong. I love that engine. I had it in my RR it was amazing. Lots of character compared to the turbo charged.
@@Tom-uk2ow Yup. ICE cars will be gone from the roads in the next 10-20 years so this idea you're buying a car to last a lifetime isn't the case anymore. Sucks but it's the reality of the shitworld we live in.
Very nice but how is it any different to the Range Rover Sport? For that money you could get a Bowler. I am a true Land Rover fanatic but I don't see the point in the new Defender. No proper towbar for towing heavy trailers offroad.
I remember the 1st gen xkr with a supercharged 4.2 V8 being just about the best sounding car ever. Bug rumble accompanied with a proper turbine whine. A bit like a Hellcat. Shame JLR have drowned out that noise with the subsequent 5L...
@@alexclipper7608 No, I drive a 2021 Landcruiser LC76. Dont get me wrong, I would love to own the V8 Defender, I just wouldn't take it off the tarmac. Not when I own an off-roader. Do have a deposit down on an Ineos though. Kinda interested, do you think its and off roader?
I want one but definitely putting the 20 inch wheels on vs these 22s. They are ridiculous. I feel like that would solve at least half the ride issues with some more sidewall.
this is not a review if you're not showing the whole interior of the car. i just wasted few minutes waiting for you to show the whole interior of the car. instead you just keep talking and talking how great the car is. we know how great and beautiful the car but please show the interior!
I think it looks awesome but with such low mpg and a £100k price tag, why wouldn’t you buy a sport SVR or something similar? At that price, you wouldn’t take it seriously off road. It doesn’t handle as well as a sports alternative, isn’t as comfortable. I love it but couldn’t personally justify it over a Porsche Cayenne or SVR. Did I say how awesome it looks?
MY Defender has done 200'000 + miles off road, ive been chest deep in water whilst driving, so I'll keep my solid axle coil spring 1990 Defender, as this one would break down after 10k doing anything off road.
Wouldn't comfort mode be for the "Townies" that don't want to rag it around B roads and who are the only ones that can afford it? I think this defender looks really handsome
The production is top notch, job well done.
I've got a defender P400e, and 400 horses is a lot of fun 0-60 5.6 secs too.
Dan is SOOOOO good man. Nowhere near enough respect on his name
Absolutely, he's one of the best. In a just world he'd be getting millions of views.
Remember he's days at evotv

Great review and the final points at the end were spot on

I saw a Defender 90 here in France a few weeks back and a lovely thing it is too. But what struck me is the size. It's enormous!
I agree. A naturally aspirated 400HP V8 engine would be the sweet spot for new Defender.
Me: searching online for one.

Looks amazing
Sounds amazing
Don’t think about it - Enjoy V8 whilst you can 🤩🤤🤤
How is it you don’t have 1M subscribers? You’ll get there for sure.
Finally a super honest review
Thanks for keeping it grounded
Thank you for the honest review, I thought this car would be a bargain G63, but I guess there is no competitor!
Love me some DP action on PH..
Wait, what?
Dan’s the man, the very best ❗️

One of the best presenters! Great job 👍
Great review. Keep up the good work.
NA woofly v8 with softer suspension with roll like a mk 1 RR would be great for well heeled farmers 👍

But the Sport SVR is boring and looks like a POS. What if you want a hotrod that's also fresh and head-turning?
@Kishlay Anand didn’t know Land Rover made that too.
Also, I said “head-turning” and “fresh”.
@@alexclipper7608 yep, side by side the Defender looks way meaner than a Sport SVR, the problem is the Defender always looks weird on camera, especially from the back. It has to be seen in person
I think the power is more aimed towards the off-road power sliding portion
Who cares how compromised it is.. it’s bloody brilliant..
V8 makes this Defender desirable.
At £100k I don’t think we’ll see many on the road. Pity, Jaguar Land Rover using up engine before becoming a brand of no interest from 2025 😓
I beg to differ there's relatively lots of SVR Range Rover about so I'd suggest this will do the same.
It sells better then old defender #fact

God I’m so glad this car exists.
you know, they have 2 400hp engine options. this v8 i think is just land rover being a bit mad, and i like that!
Dim view on life to be honest that's why things got stuck in the dark ages. Great new land Rover well done at last.
Great colour, is that white or silver?
Really like the design more and more. Looks good in white.
the 4.4 TDV8 would be awesome in the Defender
Are they still making this engine?
@@matthewstyles1767 they are
Great review
The new defender is almost the automotive version of those modern exposed brick studios in new york, you see a lot of old and new in one place
The proper imagined V8 Defender proposed is already there and it's not a Defender but a Range Rover
I wonder if they should’ve set it up with more a Ford Raptor type suspension with the V8 and called it a Bowler model?

More power? This has 80 more hp than the Raptor.
My god.. that’s a amazing suv. I want to buy one.
Stunning !
Silly question, but are you sure the unsettled ride isn't something to do with you driving the short wheel base version of this thing?
Great honest review. Nothing wrong with the car, except the name. They should have named it Discovery.

The perfect conveyance for media bunnies and Notting Hill billies to hit the M4 and head for a rural Soho House.
I have one arriving in a few days. Completely unpractical or is it? Trying to talk myself out of it but somehow can’t.

It looks far cooler than the svr and is actually more comfortable I think
Does anyone know why the roof weight capacity of the V8 is 0 compared to not 0 with the other engine variants?
