Mobile Food Pantry Haul: 07/03/24

Welcome!
We are a homesteading, homeschooling family of 7. Due to recent events (job loss/career change, health issues, rising food costs, etc.) we are having a hard time making ends meet despite our best efforts at frugality. So we are tapping into our local food banks to help us feed our family. Come along as I show you what we are blessed with, what we add to it via grocery store and garden, and how I use it all to nourish our bodies.

Because of the heat my church run food pantry didn’t have it this Friday, but they had produce that would spoil before the next date, so they sent out a message on facebook that they were leaving the produce on the deck, in the shade and to come get what you need. I went late in the afternoon but still picked up a small Napa cabbage, some romaine hearts, a couple lemon, and mangoes, and a bok choi.

I prefer the vegetarian refried beans when I buy them in a can because they aren’t made with the bad oils!! You can freeze avocado too if they are good and you won’t use them up fast enough before they go bad.

The vegan hot dogs 🤢. I tried so hard to like them (I am NOT picky at all) - but I just couldn’t. I tried ketchup, a spicy mayo, and ranch…and just couldn’t do it. I’ve liked all other vegan foods and alternatives, but just couldn’t 😳
