Did you notice the special intro in Neo Geo BC? That game happens in the future (Ryo became Mr. Karate, and Rock Howard is an adult). Not only are they teammates, they also have a playful atmosphere in their special intro now, despite delivering vicious attacks to each other.

And Iori has enough trust in Kyo to finish off the fight, even if it means killing him(and he was even prepared to die there and then) Most of their interactions, post-97 in particular, boil down to (mostly) cocky playful banter by Kyo vs Iori being Iori. They may not hate each other(as much), but that dont mean they've got to be civil with each other. Look at the dialogue for XIV and XV: that's their current relationship in a nutshell.
