I think it's because Takuma thinks Robert and Yuri getting it on would deter each other from getting stronger in the martial arts. Took a while for Mr.Karate to warm up to King and Kings not his students whereas both Yuri and Robert are.

You have to give SNK this one thing over Capcom; they don't keep their characters permavirgins like in street fighter. Terry and Blue Mary, Andy and Mai, Ryo and King, Kensou and Athena, Joe and Lilly Kane (which is the weirdest one), Robert and Yuri, they feel more alive with these little relationships. Who does Ryu shack up with? The urge of fighting? Same thinf with Chun-Li. It makes them feel less lifelike in a way.
Well it depends. Terry never truly got together with Mary due to him raising Rock. I prefer Ryu being a virgin over what was implied with him and Sakura in Sakura's ending for SFV (gross). Ken Did get married and has a child. I'd say the bigger issue is the story writing of Street Fighter. The only cool story concept is Ryu, Ken, Akuma and Gouken. Everything else is just meh or lame.
Also Angel and Krohnen. And Isla and Shun'ei look like they're set to become an item. I always wished Kyo and Iori would fight over Chizuru. She's only a couple years older than them but way more mature, I guess that's the problem. Maybe she could retire in favor of a younger family member who is more vulnerable to high school romance drama.

It is not unrealistic at all, people who are hyper focused on self improvement typically don't have time for relationships. Ken has (had) a wife, but Ryu is the typical hermit who only wants to become stronger, same as Chun. Many other characters have relationships outside the other members of the cast, Guile has a wife, Dhalsim has a wife (and a kid), Cody has a girlfriend in Final Fight, Hakan has a super hot wife, Rufus has a wife, Guy has a fiance, Sakura is into Ryu (you can count that as Ryo and King having a thing but never going anywhere with it), and so on. Not every main character needs a partner, in KoF Kyo doesn't have a girlfriend, while Iori does, but what about Kula? K'? Joe? Leona? Athena? (No, Kensou doesn't count), and many more. Main difference is that KoF characters form mostly relationships with each other, while SF characters have off screen partners.
Let's see in the Art of Fighting Timeline, Robert and Yuri Sakazaki are a couple, but in the KOF Timeline Robert made a huge mistake, he agreed with Yuri and Takuma Sakazaki, that if by chance they manage to get Ryo and King together, Yuri would be his, and until then, the relationship between these two will have to wait.
You know, I never had the impression of Robert and Yuri were a couple, but more like good friends akin to a close family member. The intros in KOF games didn't even implied them in a relationship compare to their original game franchise, the Art of Fighting.

the intro in KoF 2003 seems more interesting than past entries. shame that robert didn't keep his attire he wore in that game into 12 and 13. yuri should have a slightly more grown up outfit in a future kof and a future art of fighting game.
I personally appreciate redesigns, and Robert has a redesign gimmick (only a little less than Athena), so i didn't like that he went back to the original AOF costume for KOF 13, just because of the game's "nostalgia" theme. So i wish he stayed with the KOF 03 or 11 costume, or got a brand new one.
There's an evolution from KOF 99 to 02, where Yuri doesn't salute in 99, then she salutes him smiling in 00-01, then salutes with a neutral face in 02, looking more serious.
Fatal Fury City Of The Wolves sorta hinted we might get an older mature Yuri as a playable character so I hope it happens. While added she & Robert finally became married couple

I don't think romantic love is real or special, and I think romantic relationships are a bad thing. More than half of romantic relationships end in a breakup/divorce. I think humans should just ditch concepts like dating, marriage, and pair bonding. I feel like this world would be a much better place without romance than it is with it. Romance seems like an ugly thing. It does seem that nearly all fathers and brothers are hoping that their daughters and sisters never date or get married and remain single for their whole life. Romantic relationships seem like a bad thing since there is a lot of dangers when it comes to them. The overprotective father/brother thing is proof that romantic relationships are a bad thing, and this world would be a much better place without them. If someday that the human race ditches the concept of romance and romantic relationships, and got rid of stuff like dating and marriage, fathers and brothers would be happy about it since they wouldn't ever have to worry about their daughters and sisters ever dating if that ever happened.
