RIP Gracie Allen (July 26, 1895 - August 27, 1964), aged 69 And RIP George Burns (January 20, 1896 - March 9, 1996), aged 100 You both will be remembered as legends.
@@debbietoornman5780 One the people who worked on Gracie's dialog was a young writer named Paul Henning. Years later, he became well known as the producer for The Beverly Hillbillies, Petticoat Junction and Green Acres. He also helped write a lot of the dialog for Lisa Douglas (Eva Gabor) on Green Acres, and you can see a lot of Gracie Allen in her lines, especially when talking to her husband Oliver (Eddie Albert).
Did you know that Gracie was originally supposed to be the straight woman? The married team is amazing! One of my favorites. The duo first teamed up in 1923 following the break up of George’s partnership with straight man Billy Lorraine. Burns later recalled… “ they laughed when she asked the questions and didn’t laugh when I gave the punchline, so I gave her all the jokes.”

I watch 1980s stuff cuz I was born in 1987 and it's nostalgia but this must be so weird to have memories from 30 years earlier in the 1950s ... wait I can't believe I was only born 30 years after the 50s.... I feel like the 50s shouldn't even have any archives, it's amazing they have survived... the black and white artificially makes you think it was like this twilight early Flintstones tartaria dream time that never really existed it's so weird...I imagine if we are in a simulation, that the past never existed and it's all just an illusion. The idea of the past isn't real, and there's only the now, all of these old memories are made by server farms and they just make collective memories
It was so apparent how much George admired his wife. Their vault at Forest Lawn is marked "Gracie Allen and George Burns." George said he wanted to give Gracie top billing. 🥲
@@bobbrock4221 ... Yes she did. At the very end of every show, she would end with a classic genius but unintelligible line, and George would just respond SAY GOODNIGHT GRACIE, and she would respond GOODNIGHT GRACIE. It was in every episode and now it isn't ?
@@doniphan72ify Gracie never said "Good night, Gracie". George Burns even said so later that they had never even thought of it. It was Laugh-In where Dick Martin would say "Good night, Dick" that made people think that Gracie said it.
@@shoredude2 ... I've never seen laugh in. I don't even know what it is. The only reason I know of this show, is because my mom loved the reruns of it decades later, and George would say, SAY GOODNIGHT GRACIE, and Gracie would always say GOODNIGHT GRACIE. Now what is Laugh in ?
Pepsodent Tooth Powder is what my granddad always used. I've always used baking powder with a little salt mixed in. ( 1 pound baking soda with 4 teaspoons salt.)
The thing about toothpaste is it makes your teeth feel slick and clean. Not because they are, but because toothpaste has glycerin in it. That's what gives the "slick" feeling. Also, they all taste kinda sweet. Guess why? If they had an artificial aweetner it would be on the label.
No, she never did. George Burns says he wished he had thought of it, but he didn't. However, at the end of one of their skits (I don't remember which one), Gracie didn't want to answer another uncomfortable question, so she said, "Say goodnight, George."😀
In fact, she never said it at all. There are many interviews, which George Burns did after her death, stating that she never said anything more than, "Goodnight." It's been speculated that many people attribute this line to her, b/c some years after their show ended, on Rowan & Martin's Laugh-in, Dan Rowan would tell Dick Martin to "Say goodnight, Dick," and Dick would reply, 'Goodnight, Dick." Since these two duos performed similar comedy routines, and this seemed like something Grace Allen might say, many people incorrectly misattributed this line to her.

There was no one like gracie she was unique and wonderful
I don't know who wrote the lines but Gracie was a master at delivering them.
According to George's autobiography, they wrote some and later had writers help them. George and Gracie would tweak the scripts.

Wonderful comedic timing!!
I don't remember seeing/hearing this " bit " before but it was one of their best. Gracie was just too cute delivering her lines.
Gracie was beautiful like no other. 𝙎𝙝𝙖𝙡𝙤𝙢
They are STILL hilarious to this day. They have stood the test of time. Nothing has ever come close to them.
Man, they both had white-hot comedic timing. Gave a masterclass every night!
Would love to talk to Gracie everyday.
get to Heaven and meet her yourself.
What can you say about Gracie Allen, say good night Gracie! She is the absolute!
Say goodnight Gracie.
Gracie Allen was actually 1 yr older than her husband George.
I always though she was the younger of the two.
They'd both be pushing 130 by now.
So Gracie. Very smooth.
Years ago I would watch the Burns and Allen Show on Nickelodeon every night.

George Burns knows when to give up the baton! Found someone better at delivery! If you can imagine together they are the absolute! Intelligent comedy
Burns and Allen, A team…. And the old adage there is no I in team, Well I’m sure they would have a great joke about that
@@erflingnot Burns and Allen wrote the scripts at first. They worked with writers for some of the movies and their tv show.
Give George credit, he's easily one of the best "straight man" of all time. He can set things up perfectly!
@@Delightfully_Bitchy oh 💯! I think he’s an amazing actor. But I do love Gracie!

Good grief! Gracie kept digging a deeper and deeper hole for herself

Working on producing a radio show. Me and Louisa skewer modern issues.
It's called... "George and Gracie".
There's powder toothpaste? Not gonna lie that would be weird.
But if you stop looking and just listen. This is a really awesome improv team.
Tooth powder was called a "dentifrice"...mildly abrasive...smokers use it to get rid of tobacco stains..

Colgate made powdered tooth powder. Some companies still do.

In the old days, "kissing" was another word for sex. "How man men have you kissed? Seven?"

Similar to the "Judy Judy Judy" never said by Cary Grant.
@@jmg999 Seems silly though...why would they do it if Gracie didn't first? I mean......I guess there's always a first somewhere but is kinda weird.
