      It honestly probably wouldn't cause much of a reaction, he wasn't raised by Fiona nor did he even know that she was his mother and elf-blooded people are almost always completely human in appearance (like Alistair). Her being the first enchanter and leader of the rebellion would probably piss people off though and considering that Alistair (if made king) gave refuge to the mages, his political adversaries may view it as sympathizing with his mother and being an enabler of rebellion but her being an Orlesian elf mage overall wouldn't be too big of a deal for a guy who already believed he was born to a peasant human mother (which really isn't much better than an elf woman going by social stigma) and ended saving the world and is now King of Ferelden.

      @@TheCorrodedMan Alistair is well loved by the people. The nobles would have to pull some serious weight to bring him down. This is why I find Fiona so tragic. She was a slave, cast out by her warden comrades, locked in one of the circles of magi, and then forced to give up her greatest dream of freeing her fellow mages by Alistair, the son who doesn't even know she's his mother.

      ''Forced to give up her dream by Alistair '' ? She was taking his kind invitation of helping the mages and literally turned them over to Alexius , a tevinter mage ! I don't care about the time-travel magic and alll that stuff. She let her mages become Tevinter puppets in ALISTAIR's kingdom willingly. If anything, she should be ashamed of what she has done or tell Alistair the truth about their relation. He deserves that at least.

If she trusts her son (or Anora on extent)'s judgment, she should have recognized that the templars can't do anything in Ferelden soil. Ferelden, despite being Andrastrian, is at odds with the Chantry (you saw Alistair's irreverence against Meredith back at DAII and some of his conversations back at DAO in regards to the Chantry). Some people say in canon the Warden was a female elf who died in Origins while in this game Moriggan says HER warden is still alive and on an adventure too (which means the child's father clearly isn't Alistair or Zevran) so a random plot hole perhaps.

    • @Icipher353
      @Icipher353 10 лет назад +71

      After giving birth to Alistair at Weisshaupt, she brought him to Ferelden to give to Maric to raise. She wanted him raised away from her (so he never find out his mother was an elf and suffer the prejudice that would follow) and away from the Royal Court (so that he not be entangled in politics); she wanted him to be free of the burdens of who his parents were so he could find his own path in life. After she gave Alistair to Maric, she returned to the Wardens for a while, during which time they tried to figure out how she had been cured of the taint, but they were unable to do so. As she was no longer a Warden, she had to go to the Circle, and the Circles rarely let mages out for any reason. What she did for Alistair was actually quite selfless, its just that Maric was a fool who trusted Eamon to do the right thing and actually take care of Alistair, which he failed to do.

    • @Icipher353
      @Icipher353 10 лет назад +58

      ras144 You call keeping a child in the dog pens or the stable "caring for him"? Alistair respects Eamon because he's spent his entire life being abused by people with power over him and he thinks any small kindness or consideration as some sign of great friendship (same with Duncan).
      Eamon wanted to make Alistair King because he is obssessed with the Theirin bloodline and ensuring it goes on, even if it is through a bastard. When Teagan questions Eamon about making Alistair King, Eamon even says, "If there were other options, I would not suggest it." which clearly shows that Eamon is trying to make Alistair King simply because there are no other candidates with royal blood.
      Added to that, Eamon is a scheming politician who can see an opportunity for more power for himself. He knows that Alistair lacks the necessary skills to rule, and that he will need Eamon to advise him, allowing Eamon an opportunity to accrue power and wealth to himself. Why do you think he was not keen for Alistair to marry Anora? Its because she would not require him to assist in ruling and would send him back to Redcliffe.
      In regard to helping get revenge for Duncan, Eamon was only interested in unseating Loghain and Anora, and placing a Theirin King on the throne; if the Warden conscripts Loghain, he doesn't even object in spite of Alistair's protestations, so helping Alistair get revenge is obviously not much of a priority for him. He's concerned with the big political game, not Alistair's wishes (as evidenced by him pushing Alistair to be King even though he doesn't want to). Helping Alistair get revenge is not something he ever even comments on, its just not on his radar.
      Finally, if the Warden decides against Alistair at the Landsmeet and Anora calls for his execution, why does Eamon say nothing in Alistair's defence? Its because he only cares about his own position, and is not prepared to risk angering Anora for Alistair's sake.
      For Eamon, making Alistair King is both an unfortunate necessity and an opportunity to increase his power and status. Eamon has his own agenda and Alistair is simply a means to an end.

    • @Moumoku-Kage
      @Moumoku-Kage 10 лет назад +16

      Darkly Tranquil You've said what I feel. Maric was a cowardly fool, and Eamon doesn't give one damn about Alistair. Shame Alistair fails to see this.

      ras144 I've played Origins sixteen times if we are counting, and read every book and comic that has been made for
      Dragon Age. In any case, when you go to Denerim there is an ambient dialogue (near the fountain at Eamon's estate) in which he says, "The arl used to come here in the winter when I was small. I, uh... slept with the hounds." (ref: dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Alistair/Dialogue). I can't find the exact quote for it, but its also mentioned that he lived in the stable at Redcliffe, and not in the castle, because Isolde did not want him around. As for the necklace, I attribute that to some small measure of guilt about caving in to his wife and sending Alistair off to the Chantry when he was so unhappy. I wouldn't rule out that Eamon cared about Alistair to some small degree, but not to the extent that he would inconvenience himself for Alistair's sake. If he did care about Alistair, he would have told Isolde to STFU.

    • @Icipher353
      @Icipher353 10 лет назад +8

      ras144 Its not clear, but presumably because Maric commanded him to take care of Alistair, so he did not want to palm the task off on Teagan (who would have only just reached adulthood himself in 9:10 Dragon). He would also have been keen to keep a lid on Alistair's existence, since it would be a slur on the memory of Queen Rowan (Eamon's sister) so he might have wanted to handle it personally.
      To be clear, I think Eamon was fond of Alistair inasmuch as he could be, but only when it didn't inconvenience him. When Alistair's presence became a nuisance he got rid of him, and when Alistair became useful again, he was eager to play the father-figure. Its just all a bit too convenient. I also think that Eamon's allegiance to the Theirin line is genuine and that he believed that having a Theirin king was important to Ferelden, he was just keen to get as much out of it for himself as he could in the process.

      As much as I disliked Vivienne, I liked that there was a character that explored that part. It's also notable that Sera and Vivienne are the two most criticized characters in the party and it's largely, IMO, because Bioware didn't have a proper grasp of that aspect of their society and how to represent those conflicting views.
      Fiona might have been fun to explore but I wonder whether we already explored her in the Calling and there just wasn't enough left to talk about.... just more for other characters to discover that the audience still has available.

    There are more Dragon Age games to come out, I doubt Alistair will remain long in ignorance of who his mother really is, and if he does, it will be a result of Fiona's wish. I am really sad Alistair did not get to know her, but I respect his decision; his rule is already fragile in times of War, where many would love to overthrow him simply for being a bastard, even if he is a great King.

      considering the facts, I think Fiona lost his "powers" of gray warden for having a child, but Alistair is normal, if you are talking about Kieran, he can have the soul of an ancient god of Tevinter if you convince Alistair go to bed with Morrigan or with the male Hero of Ferelden.

      Laura A. I think Fiona lost the effects of the taint because the broaches that was given to her and the other grey wardens accelerated the taint and made them die faster of it. By the end of the story, the dark magic from the broach was reversed and she lost the physical effects from the taint aswell as the internal effects. That ultimately wiped the taint from her blood which cured her.

      @katie42496 3 года назад +3

      Every single one of those things (aside from the warden bit I suppose, but even then its frowned upon due to the fertility issues and short lifespan) would ruin Alistair's standing among nobility. Mage bloodlines are very much discouraged, and elf blooded kids can count on a life of never QUITE fitting in because of the stigma of having an elven parent (it literally ruined Michel de Chevin's life) and so soon after the occupation, an heir with an Orlesian parent would be met with a LOT of scorn (Eamon got a LOT of shit for marrying Isolde, and consider everything that happened with Connor)
      Like zevran said (at least in antiva) lots of kings come from bastard blood. It's hardly unheard of. Fiona made it very clear to Maric that she wanted Alistair to be raised with no knowledge of her, because unfortunately everything she is would just make life so much harder for him.

      Goldanna's mother passed away at the time that baby Alistair arrived in Redcliffe. It was an absolute scandal for Maric to sleep with an elf, no less have a child with one, so it was better to say he had an affair with a serving girl than an elf. Eamon raised Alistair as a bastard, saving Maric's reputation.
      Goldanna, even though she was a child, could ask questions about her mother's death. Whether or not she even died in childbirth is unknown, but she died nonetheless. Goldanna may have said that her mother was not pregnant and that could have raised questions where Alistair came from.

He would be questioning everything about his life from all of that like for example when he was sent to the chantry was it simply because he threw a temper tantrum or was it because they were watching him for magic talents? so many things about his life would easily have changed because of that secret plus the Arl didn't know the warden ether so it just made sense to hide it from us.

      A serving girl did indeed give birth in Redcliffe Castle, and that was Goldanna's mother. She says in Origins', "They told me the babe was dead. Gave me a coin and told me to keep my mouth shut". Whoever fathered her mother's child that died in labour with its mother, I have no idea - perhaps Eamon himself had an affair? It would explain why Alistair mentions that "rumours had me pegged as his Bastard" when talking of Eamon and Redcliffe in Party Camp.
      I believe it was to prevent Alistair knowing about his mother - or a story that Maric told Eamon to stick to. It's also likely one of the reasons that Maric never recognised Alistair, especially as he's a) Half Elven and b) born of a Mage thus there were way too many potential issues there.

  • @Norinia
    @Norinia 9 лет назад

    lol just in case it hasn't widely known due to I think the books Alistair is not the bastard heir he thought he was. He is actually the elf blooded, mage blooded, warden born legit heir to the throne. The reason he wasn't named the actual heir was probably because his mother didn't want to be known to him and to call him his heir King Maric would have had to make that information known. And the outrage at everything that his mother is would have probably been too much trouble and would probably cause Anarchy. Much simpler to have another heir that's fully human. If I got any of this wrong it was my understanding that Alistair was born first, back when King Maric had some adventures. Also would make Alistair older than he thinks he is. It would fit the drama dragon age puts into its works a lot. Also it might make Alistair more or less likely to get the calling early or much later which would be pretty cool I guess.

The goldanna and maid mother thing was all made up because Fiona wanted Alistair to be happy and back then she was a grew warden and also a mage which she couldn't raise children do to both the life of grey warden or as grand enchanter of the circle mages.

    What was the point of this whole scene being in the game? Nothing came of it and it’s likely that the Devs won’t put it in future installments since her son can be killed in inquisition.

      Dragon Age, since Origins, is filled with tons of extra side stuff that you'd never find if you don't go looking for it. Hell, a lot of the lore we know about the series comes from the codex in each of the games, which a lot of people don't ever even bother reading. It's not pointless. It adds "flavor" to a world, that little bit of extra that makes it feel more like a living world than just a made up one (even though we are all aware that it is, in fact, just a made up world).
      Also, it's entirely possible it could be included in future games or other media, like books or comics, if they wanted to. Because depending on how you play the games, it's entirely possible for both Alistair and Fiona to be dead (there are two ways for Alistair to die in Origins, one of which is him slaying the Archdemon), so by that logic, there shouldn't be any future appearance of either character, whether it's an actual onscreen cameo or in a codex entry or letter or something (like the War Table missions), because it's possible they aren't around.

      +Papyrus The Skeleton Goldanna was a child of a servant woman who just so happened to be pregnant around the same time as Fiona. The servant woman died in childbirth, and to conceal the truth about who Alistair's mother was...they told him that the servant who died was his mother.

      @SelphieFairy 8 лет назад +2

      Aroura Novak not at all. There were many female grey wardens. You can ask Alistair about it if you play as a female warden, and he mentions he has seen pictures of them, though there weren't any while he had been with them so far. In the warden's keep dlc you go to an old grey warden base and look for evidence to redeem the legendary warden commander Sophia. In awakenings you can also conscript velanna, a female elf into the wardens -- although I suppose that would be after the hero of ferelden

      Just A Nerd he doesn't know she is his mother. They cooked up a plan and lied to him. And so yes the money grubbing b**** was not his sister. It was bad enough that Alistair was a Bastard of a King. They could not let anyone find out his mother was an Elf. She agreed, which is why Eamon raised him.
      Which makes her part that much more sad.

    If Fiona is a Grey Warden, how did she conceive?

    • @FalenDragmire
      @FalenDragmire 5 лет назад +1

      It's not impossible for a Grey Warden to conceive a child, be they male or female, just incredibly difficult. The chances of conception are a little better if one of the parents is not a Grey Warden, but it is entirely possible for two Grey Wardens to have a child together but incredibly difficult. In Origins, for example, if your Warden was a Female Cousland and you chose to marry Alistair, he mentions that at some point, the nobility will expect them to provide an heir for throne, but he doesn't think that's likely to happen since the taint makes it difficult, but not impossible, for Wardens to conceive.
      Basically, two Wardens conceiving a child together would be what we in the real world would call a miracle baby.

    • @SeventhheavenDK
      @SeventhheavenDK 3 года назад

      @@FalenDragmire . When does the game actually says Grey Wardens cannot have children, or even that is difficult?
      The only thing I hear Alistair said is that it may not be a good idea for a Grey Warden to have child because of the taint, but he never mentions anything about being more difficult, or is that mentioned in one of the books or comics?.

    • @FalenDragmire
      @FalenDragmire 3 года назад +3

      @@SeventhheavenDK It's mentioned in several of the books and comics that while it's not impossible for Grey Wardens to have children, it is incredibly difficult for them to do so, particularly if both sexual partners are Grey Wardens. Alistair himself, being the bastard child of Grand Enchanter Fiona and King Maric, is a perfect example of someone who probably shouldn't exist, but does, likely due to the circumstances of his conception (there were some shenanigans going on at the time of Alistair's conception).
