I have some things or tips to tell you that have probably been said but just in case I will anyway. 1. Healing potions have a quick use button which is h same with mana potions which is j 2. Desert scourge is a fast pace boss getting more health and mobility is key. 3. Endurance is something great, reducing damage taken by 10% so that will help wonders. 4. The underground jungle has something for each class, range: boomstick, melee: blade of grass, mage: armor , summon: whip. 5. Getting an extractinator will be so good for magic storage and ores as if you get silt or slush it will turn it into different gemstones and ores. Extractinators are found in desert houses underground and gold chests underground and silt is underground and slush is underground snow. 6. Sky islands are very helpful, giving a great weapon, and 2 great accessories. 7 last one but I would break one demon orb in corruption because it will give the chance of a goblin army to happen automatically at each morning. Tips: -Use ammo slots for gels and falling stars for saving inventory if you dont use ranger class. -If you found an Extractinator, you have 0,3333% chance to get diamond by placing Silt/Slush and 0,15% by placing Desert Fossil into the Extractinator.
WOW, i thought you would die more times being your first time in Calamity mod, but besides you did it pretty well! Its important for you to choose a class to play, there are 5 classes in the game Melee: Bro just melee high defense guy Ranger: Pretty good and safe class with such a nice damage without sacrificing much (besides some defense) Mage: D0gsh1t in early (there are not many weapons in early and you also depend of your accesories, besides the VERY low defense) but i think it has the best progression, with the highest DPS with a funny gameplay and accesories Summoner: You have an army of pets to attack for you, you can use the whips to increase the damage of that pets, its a very safe class with high damage, you dont have to worry about anything else than evoiding attacks, but personally i dont think that is fun to play for your first playthrough Rogue: The new class from calamity, it has a unique and refreshing gameplay, with the mecanic of charging attacks with stealth (stealth charges if you are still without moving), those charged attacks are a stronger version of the regular attacks with some new mechanic, like throwing extra projectiles or changing completely the attack. If you want a complete Calamity experience, this is your class You can get some stuff for your class right now depending which would you choose, like accesories or armors. And I saw you got lost with the Dessert Scourge, remember that you have the boss cursor, that points the direction that the boss is! Also you can use your hook on the platforms. And... Little info: Calamity has an official texture pack that you may want to activate! It gives vanilla the same artstlye as calamity, making it feel more connected. There is also a mod endorsed by the calamity team, called "Vanilla Calamity mod music", turning all vanilla music into calamity style songs (one of the composers also worked on calamity itself). Dont worry, neither of these will corrupt your world :)
Heres my tip of the video: The bosses in this mod are pretty hard compared to vanilla, so to make them easier I would recommend researching what gear is the best at each stage of progression. You could use class guides, but simply putting materials into recipe browser (if you have that mod installed, i cant remember), or giving them to the guide to see what you can make with it. Generally, focusing on mobility and defense is good for newer players because if you don't die, and the boss doesn't have a time limit, you can always win. Another couple of small tips: Many bosses will take multiple attempts, so don't get demotivated by dying to them, and also try to reduce the time between fights as much as possible with pylons I'd also recommend rebinding quick heal to something you can use easily, (I use F) since you'll be using health potions a lot
Some tips: (sorry for typing too much but giving tips to youtubers is my hobby) - buy a piggy bank from merchant and put all of ur money in there to not lose it, if u put ur money here once, u can use the quick stack feature to automatically put ur money to it But, what is quick stack? The chest icon u will find under ur inventory, to use quick stack u: 1. Need to be close to a chest/piggy bank/magic storage or just any kind of storage 2. It works only with items that are already in the storage, so if u have dirt in ur chest, it will quick stack dirt from ur inventory to the chest, so u dont need to keep running from chest to chest to clean ur inventory, but click one single button - most optimal arena for any stage of the game are platforms with 25 tiles of free space apart, ur had only like 10, u might not be able to jump that high, so u should get a sandstorm in a bottle or yellow balloon, if u still struggle with jumping there use ur hook, - ok so, I assume u do not have a class, but i will show u the power of strongest class in the game which is summoner, get urself a weapon called stormjaw staff which drops from stormilions, the blue electro antilions u fought in underground desert, get flinx fur coat or wulfrum armor as well for the +1 minion slot, trust me these 2 stormjaws are no joke, they have SS desert scourge kill time on infernum (20 seconds to be exact), not sure about vanilla calamity but im pretty sure its really good on non infernum as well, u can also use leather whip or snapthorn to help ur minions - use calamity discord, "help-advice-read-pins" channel to be exact, its really helpful and u can ask anything in here, u can also ask there if ur loadout (accessories etc.) is ok for certain boss fight

Once I get a sandstorm in a bottle or yellow balloon I will probably adjust my arena to what you suggested! Although I know it will be useful for progression, I'm not too sure about choosing a specific class as it will limit me with what I can use and I do want to use all different types of weapons purely on a entertaining and enjoyable experience
@@_CJS I get using different weapons for fun and all that especially for a YT video, but almost all mid to late game builds focus on buffing specific stats to maximize damage for that kind weapon. in your case probably mage or melee weapons. Edit I forgot multiclass is a thing. basically you split your accessories, one half for one class the other half for a different class
The step stool is the most overpowered thing in the game, and can 1 hit Yharim even though he's not in the game yet as a boss, and is already defeated by CJS by holding step stool alone Also some tips for Desert Scourge: -Use the map where it covers your screen, so you can see when it is charging at you, this is useful for all worm bosses because headshots from them deal so much damage. -Star Fury, or Enchanted Sword is a good option, use recipe browser because in calamity they are craftable -For armor, use full gold, and your accessories seem good enough Once again, this series is amazing so far, and its only the 2nd episode! I hope you can kill Desert Scourge next time, and maybe Crabulon also!
So here are some tips for you, comrade! 1. You can block-switch your dirt floor to the wooden one, so it will look much more beautiful. Also I can recommend you testing some block combinations (like different types of wood, gray bricks and something easy-obtainable like that). It will improve your house so much. 2. Calamity allows you to craft Lucky Horseshoe from 8 gold bars, so you won't receive any fall damage. 3. When you were discovering space, you were too high to find sky islands, they usually spawn much lower. 4. Collect anything you find in Laboratories, especially power cell stations. Also place them down somewhere at your base, so they will start producing batteries. 5. Sell most of the stuff you don't actually need, like Inner Tube, money is essential at the beginning of the game. 6. Use money to buy bombs for Hellevator and pylons to travel faster. 7. Before starting any boss fight - prepare an arena! Place at least 2 levels of platforms, place some torches to identify your targets more easily, place a campfire, star bottle and heart lamp (if you have spare Life Crystal). Even the King Slime in Revengeance can annihilate you without a proper arena. 8. Desert fossil is actually useful, if you can find extractinator. Sturdy fossil can be used in good ranger armor. 9. Try exploring jungle. It is hard, but it pays out most of the time. If you find a boomstick, it should be gg for the Eye, just don't forget to build a house for gun dealer (tip: gun dealer loves the nurse and they both likes desert, so you can build a house for them in here and place a pylon) 10. As I understand, you use healing potions from hotbar (maybe I'm wrong). You have a bind for a quick healing potions, so you don't need to switch of your weapon. Also there is a button to drink all potions from your inventory at once, which will be usefull later on, when you'll have much more potions to drink. 11. Try exploring sky islands, if you have any Gravitation Potions. The Starfury is really powerful. 12. Try digging deep enough in the desert. Here's something interesting waiting for you, after the Desert Scourge will be dead. 13. When you reach hell - don't forget to make few small houses for Demolitionist and, maybe, Tavernkeeper in the future. They both like that Underground vibe. 14. Take your time and enjoy the game! Hey there CJS. Found your channel from your Calamity music ranking videos, and have been interested in this little serious you're doing because of it. I hope you end up having a good time playing through the game I hold so dear to my heart! Here's a tip for you: Keep your keybinds close together to prevent having to reach over your keyboard to simply heal or use your hook. My recommendation for keybinds are these: Q = Quick heal, E = Inventory, F = Grapple, Z = Armour Set Bonus, X = God Slayer Dash (PREVIOUS TWO WONT BE USEFUL UNTIL MUCH LATER ON), C = Rage, V = Adrenaline. I hope this recommendation helps, and as I said previously, have an amazing time playing Calamity! (It only gets better from here)
pro tip right off the bat…you could use ropes to build up to the sky island instead of blocks, they arent physical and you can climb them, you can place them the same as any other block, from the ground up, they dont need to be touching any blocks edit: btw you still missed something in that lab lol…theres the power cell factories and charging station that youll need, the factories have like little hammer things on top and are animated and the charging station is nearby them on a platform
Yo here's a few tips for you: In calamity, you can craft almost all of the accessories that you normally wouldn't be able to craft in vanilla (example: in calamity you can craft the blizzard in a bottle and the sandstorm in a bottle, while in vanilla you can't), i recommend using the Vanilla Item Recipes page on the Official wiki (don't use the Fandom wiki)so you can see what is craftable and what isn't. Almost all the biomes in the games contain a shrine. Shrines are small little buildings that usually contain a chest with an accessory related to the biome. The Underground Desert shrine contains the Luxor's Gift accessory, which is one of the best pre-hardmode accessories you can get. Those 2 bars at the top are known as Rage (red) and Adrenaline (green), Rage builds up when enemies are around you and gives you a 1.35x damage boost for 9 seconds when activated. Adrenaline only fully builds up when you don't get hit in a boss fight for 30 seconds. When Adrenaline is activated, you gain a 2.5x damage boost for 5 seconds. A really important thing you should do, is go on your keybind settings and bind everything new that calamity adds, because everything is unbinded by default, including the Rage and Adrenaline bars. I know you're doing it for the meme, but please stop using Step Stool. In calamity, every accessory slot has to count. Aim to craft the Terraspark boots before hardmode. I'm pretty sure every single part of the Terraspark boots is craftable, so it is MUCH easier than in vanilla. The reason i'm telling you this is because Terraspark boots have upgrades in calamity, and with speed almost being a necessity in boss fights, you can't miss out on it. Always wear the full sets of a armor set so you can get the set bonus. And lastly, craft the Sandstorm/Blizzard in a bottle, as they are the best double jump accessories you can get in the moment (cloud in a bottle's double jump is much smaller compared to those 2). Edit: i didn't finish watching the video, so i didn't know you already knew how to use the Rage and Adrenaline bars already.
Thank you for the tips mate I really appreciate it, I do have one question, is there any specific way I can find those shrines as they sound pretty useful. Also one other thing, I will probs keep the lucky step stool on me but just remove it for boss fights like I did with the Desert Scourge
@@_CJS shrines are spawning in their biomes. There's no specific way to find them, but desert one spawn in a big desert only (with underground desert), corruption spawns frequently in holes or on their way down, but in underground, crimson spaws the same but there's morw chance to find it when you'll get down to underground
to get out of a minecart you can press the mount key, or just grapple, and I'm not sure if you know yet but there is a setting where you can just autoswing every item without having to click every time, so you can just hold down click, some weapons and things like blocks already are auto swing but not every weapon unless you enable the autoswing setting. in labs most things are just decoration but you should take the kinda bigger things which are battery factory things, and also take power stations, and a couple of things you find in the chests are just crafting material for plenty of useful things. a tip for inventory management, some things like gel or fallen stars can also be counted as ammo, so if you need space you can move something like fallen stars or gel into ammo slots. wulfrum battery is just mainly useful if you are to use summon weapons. for placing platforms it would be easier to turn off smart cursor mode and go into manual cursor mode by pressing ctrl as that would prevent any mess from being made while trying to make an arena. something that may help is to explore the sky more, to find floating islands as you can get a pretty useful weapon from a chest

I never knew gel and fallen stars can also be counted as ammo! And I was hoping I would be able to find more gravitational potions to help with the sky travel but unfortunately I didn't find any
@@_CJS hopefully you find them soon:) the auto swing feature is easy to find i think if you just click on settings and in the general section if I remember correctly, and the reason fallen stars and gel are considered ammo is just bc there are a couple of weapons which use them as ammo
Tips: I'm pretty sure the built in dash can be activated by double tapping A or D as well, it'll be easier to not have to remember a keybind for that. Double jumps reset the fall damage counter, so if you're falling a long distance with your double jump you can use it right before you hit the ground and take no fall damage. There is also an accessory called the lucky horseshoe that completely negates all fall damage. Calamity really rewards you for sticking to a single class of weapons (it also adds a fifth class called rogue). Using a summon while using a weapon from another class usually means that the summon does reduced damage. This can actually lower your overall damage in some cases, since the summon interferes with I-frames (your other weapon by itself might do more damage than the weapon plus a summon). Grenades from the demolitionist are one of the strongest weapons for early game, they do ~60 damage and have an area of effect, but they can also damage you so be careful. When making an arena, it might be good to flatten the ground as well, that way you don't get stuck against a wall in the middle of a boss fight.
Small tip I thought I'd share. There's an option in the settings to enable auto-swing for all weapons. It's nice for fast weapons that requires spam clicking
Amazing gaming session! Tip: try to avoid the head as it deals way more damage than other sources Also making jester arrows (with stars and arrows ) helps with any worm like boss in prehardmode. Doing pretty good for a first time calamity playthrough
I know hardly anything about calamity, but i will give you some useful tips i picked up. when fighting the desert scourge, i recommend fossil armour, hermes boots, a shield of cthulu(the eye is easier than the desert scourge, and the dash is super handy.) a cloud in a bottle/ horseshoe balloon and rocket boots. as for weapons, i found the combination of the minishark and flash bullets(these are crafted with 1 grenade and 3 glass) to be really good. thats all i can give, but i hope it helps!
here are some tips that could help you out quite a bit first i would put a keybind on the recipe browser and throw any materials you get into it as soon as you can to see what weapons/armor you can craft with them you should also definitely buy a piggy bank from the merchant because you can store your money and you can still spend it from inside the piggy bank i would also not recommend buying weapons from npcs as usually they are pretty bad, usually being replaced quickly for something you could craft easily. i saw that at 32:41 you were manually using potions, you can actually press B to use all potions in your inventory and H to use the best healing potion avaliable edit: oh yeah you should probably get to 400 hp as well
I just beat Supreme Witch Calamitas in my first playthrough today. I played on death mode and it took me over 10 hours to beat as a mage. It is fun seeing someone going through the same experience that I just had. You are doing really well so far considering your lack of experience, and I hope this mod ends up being very enjoyable for you. If I could give you any advice, It would be to relax and enjoy the experience. You are going to die a lot and you will have to come to terms with that. Boss fight deaths should not be seen as negative, but they should be thought of as in a way you get to enjoy the boss that much longer. Bosses take a lot of work and are the highlight of this mod, and if you can let deaths just be extensions to the pleasure, you will find yourself raging a lot less. This was my way of keeping my sanity against Devourer of Gods, Yharon, and Supreme Calamitas which took about 100, 60, and 150 attempts respectively. Also my calamity playthrough was inspired by your music ranking videos. Listening to the music reminded me of the short time I played the mod with my friends and hyped me up for a playthrough. For that I am very thankful. After I take down the Exo Mechs and Boss Ruch I am heading off to do Infernum, so wish me good luck. This was my first time commenting on a video despite using RUclips for most of my life, so I am sorry if there is any bad grammar, a lack of organization, or this comment was too long.
Use the dash or hook right before the desert scourge is about to charge into you to dodge it, this is the strat with most worm bosses, they will try to home onto you but cant turn too sharply, so if you suddenly become 90 degrees to the right of them they cant turn sharp enough to hit you
I'd recommend when you get items giving them to the guide, as he can show you what you can make with them! This is absolutely useful and you should totally use it
if i had any tip, its to use Calamity’s built in dash, lots of the bosses are built around instantly changing your momentum via dashing. Jumping over and dashing over bosses, or even just keeping your momentum when running, its helpful
@@_CJSand definitely set a hotkey for it as opposed to the default double tap dash, trust me, with how much you will end up dashing, you need an instant activation as opposed to that extra fraction of a second it takes to double tap dash xD

Just a tip if someone didn't mention it yet when you are falling instead of grappling a wall you can grapple the ground to break and fall and take no damage
pro tip: use alt for placing walls | press mount button to dismount the cart when i saw slime rain the first thing i thought is another death 8:26 huh what is this trap lmao first time seeing it you can collect plants that make dyes and sell them for 20 silver each diamonds are the rarest gems (gems are rarer than ores) diamonds are the easiest to get at around lava layer of the caverns 16:50 did u even notice the skeleton lmao craw carapace is the second best pre-hm damage accessory and crumbling makes the enemies damage reduction a bit lower (quick desert scourge guide) for desert scourge u just have to learn when to dodge and then use a double jump when hes beneath i think but what i do is i just run with hermes boots in one direction so it doesnt go beneath me and when it tries to touch me i fall down the platforms or jump over him also add campfires and heart lanterns once u max out hp i think thats all for this vid (:

@@_CJS ive seen that the diamond crawler also spawns very often instead of other crawlers at the lava layer i think i had 2 next to eachother by accident and another 1 was very close to them (u can use battle potions for spawn rates) on another note if ur interested in calamity music there was a calamity fan song that dropped called ignite my flame i recommend watching it and maybe even putting it in ranking vid (its about yharim if u know who he is)
I know u didn't see my comment last episode so I'll just say what I already said again I have some mods for ya, mainly visual 1. Light's and Shadows 2. Fancy Lighting 3. Atmosphere Torches 4. Realisic Sky 5. Better Tooltips 6. Fancy whips 7. Improved Movement Visuals 8. "Weapon out" or "Armament Display" Infernum mode music does work without having the Infernum mod itself so maybe consider that for the cooler boss tracks There is another mod called Vanilla Calamity Mod Music which also replaces Vanilla music but more focused on biomes. In the config of the mod, u can give priority to Infernum music since it does also have a few boss tracks. There's Calamity's Vanaties, mainly adds some more vanity and cute little things like plushies, vanity sets & pets There the Catalyst mod which is similar to Hunt of the Old God where it also add a boss, Astrageldon, and more weapons mainly for summoner due to the lack of whips There are texture packs too but the main problem is that like, you might prefer this aspect of one texture pack, but another aspect of another texture pack. I do know how to compile texture packs and can combine sprites from various packs but that would require having some way of personally messaging u
Sorry mate, I did see it but just didn't get round to responding to all of them as was really busy. I will probably equip the Infernum music for some bosses like Lunatic Cultist as that was so good! It looks like from the poll most people want to see the vanilla Calamity mod music being used so I'll do that for next episode. I probably won't use the Catalyst mod for now as I don't want to add to many mods and the same thing goes with the texture packs too. Alright i have a little suspicion that you will be struggling a lot with the bosses both from calamity and vanilla (wich do have changes in revegeance), so i recommend you get potions for each fight (a lot of potions actually as many as you can to help you) but don't drink them all for your first few fights. In Calamity, boss summons are infinite, so you can practice as much as you want, but have a ton of buffs help. Also build an arena, not a small one too, try making it bigger horizontally so you can run more in each direction. Small edit: GET THE DAMN POWER CELL FABRICATOR THINGS AND PLACE THEM ON YOUR BASE

Your arena could definitely be longer. That said, not a bad first attempt for the desert scourge fight! Avoiding the head is pretty important as it does a lot of damage. Watch for the boss cursor to see when it's about to charge you. Also, you can attempt it as much as you want really because the summon item isn't consumed when you use it.
Oh wow, I just had a look back at my base recording and yeah I didn't realise the summon item isn't consumed, that is so good! I can't wait to have loads of attempts at it next episode!
Use the recipe browser whenever you get a material. It can be really useful because there are lots of weapons and items you can craft. Also i think the best controls are: e for inventory, r for grapple, c for using a mount, q for healing potions, v for rage mode, t for adrenaline mode, control for smart cursor. But its up to you.
Yeah I do definitely need to use the recipe browser more, I just need to get more used to my current key binds, for adrenaline and rage modes, I've got 2 buttons on the side of my mouse with I have equipped for them!
u can press right click to equip armor, accsesories, hook and pet u also can make an accsesorien for your falling issue, use 5 gold to make golden horseshoe and also don't buy weapon from npc cause some weapon is better and easier to get
ı think you should make jungle set to make the jungle set you need "jungle spores" (green glowing thing in jungle) "stingers" (drops from spiked slimes hornets) and "vines" (drops from man eaters) it gives 17 defense and for the set bonus 16% reduced mana costs and a full set Increases maximum mana by 80
Yeah that would be very useful, at the moment however I don't have any weapons that are mana heavy, so I probably won't worry about this until I need to
tips: its better to fight king slime first since he drops the slimy saddle which would be good for dodging desert scourge choose a class from now to specialize in and get the armor, weapons and accessories for that class you can put materials in the top left slot in recipe browser to see what they make (not many ppl will agree with me ) use the classes guide page from calamity wiki.

Not using a class specific load out gives you too many options in my opinion. The shear amount of items could potentially be overwhelming at some points. Just sifting through the mage stuff in my play through took quite a large amount of time.

CJS, try to craft something with the wulfrum scrap. The items are pretty funny like a grappling hook that is automaticly used if you would take fall damage.
its an emotional rollercoaster even for veterans, its not a very friendly place, everytime i go there i feel fear, rage, excitement, disappointment, you name it…all within like 30 minutes💀

(I forgot what QoL mods you’re using so forgive me if I name one you already have) but I would very much recommend Fargos mutant mod, alchemistnpc, and maybe LuiAFK. Some pretty good quality of life mods that reduce grind but not by anything game breakingly quick

Great video! Also, could you react/rate @doddged2 ‘s calamity music like how you did with the infernum music, it’s so good! His yharim theme (called “Ignite my Flame”) is one of the best themes i’ve ever heard, especially for a fan made theme. The singer is fantastic and it feels like a genuine calamity theme, rather than just a bunch of motifs shoved together in an unorganized mess like a lot of other fan themes.
Another question I have (you don’t have to answer) is how would you rank the entire calamity soundtrack as a whole, instead of ranking each individual song
Catalyst is probably better for experienced playthroughs as.. you know, the mod has a pre moonlord weapon that can carry you to devourer of gods (the chances of first timers getting such weapon is very hard but the boss still has very broken weapons and the armour is really op) In summary, the boss is still really cool so i wouldnt mind him downloading it
Catalyst is absolutely brutal for someone playing calamity for the first time, I've played it dozens of times and I still don't usually beat that boss in under 10 attempts.

I have some things or tips to tell you that have probably been said but just in case I will anyway.
1. Healing potions have a quick use button which is h same with mana potions which is j
2. Desert scourge is a fast pace boss getting more health and mobility is key.
3. Endurance is something great, reducing damage taken by 10% so that will help wonders.
4. The underground jungle has something for each class, range: boomstick, melee: blade of grass, mage: armor , summon: whip.
5. Getting an extractinator will be so good for magic storage and ores as if you get silt or slush it will turn it into different gemstones and ores. Extractinators are found in desert houses underground and gold chests underground and silt is underground and slush is underground snow.
6. Sky islands are very helpful, giving a great weapon, and 2 great accessories.
7 last one but I would break one demon orb in corruption because it will give the chance of a goblin army to happen automatically at each morning. You break orbs with hammers.

Tips:
-Use ammo slots for gels and falling stars for saving inventory if you dont use ranger class.
-If you found an Extractinator, you have 0,3333% chance to get diamond by placing Silt/Slush and 0,15% by placing Desert Fossil into the Extractinator.
WOW, i thought you would die more times being your first time in Calamity mod, but besides you did it pretty well!
Its important for you to choose a class to play, there are 5 classes in the game
Melee: Bro just melee high defense guy
Ranger: Pretty good and safe class with such a nice damage without sacrificing much (besides some defense)
Mage: D0gsh1t in early (there are not many weapons in early and you also depend of your accesories, besides the VERY low defense) but i think it has the best progression, with the highest DPS with a funny gameplay and accesories
Summoner: You have an army of pets to attack for you, you can use the whips to increase the damage of that pets, its a very safe class with high damage, you dont have to worry about anything else than evoiding attacks, but personally i dont think that is fun to play for your first playthrough
Rogue: The new class from calamity, it has a unique and refreshing gameplay, with the mecanic of charging attacks with stealth (stealth charges if you are still without moving), those charged attacks are a stronger version of the regular attacks with some new mechanic, like throwing extra projectiles or changing completely the attack. If you want a complete Calamity experience, this is your class
You can get some stuff for your class right now depending which would you choose, like accesories or armors.
And I saw you got lost with the Dessert Scourge, remember that you have the boss cursor, that points the direction that the boss is! Also you can use your hook on the platforms.

Little info:
Calamity has an official texture pack that you may want to activate! It gives vanilla the same artstlye as calamity, making it feel more connected.
There is also a mod endorsed by the calamity team, called "Vanilla Calamity mod music", turning all vanilla music into calamity style songs (one of the composers also worked on calamity itself).
Dont worry, neither of these will corrupt your world :)
Heres my tip of the video:
The bosses in this mod are pretty hard compared to vanilla, so to make them easier I would recommend researching what gear is the best at each stage of progression. You could use class guides, but simply putting materials into recipe browser (if you have that mod installed, i cant remember), or giving them to the guide to see what you can make with it. Generally, focusing on mobility and defense is good for newer players because if you don't die, and the boss doesn't have a time limit, you can always win.
Another couple of small tips:
Many bosses will take multiple attempts, so don't get demotivated by dying to them, and also try to reduce the time between fights as much as possible with pylons
I'd also recommend rebinding quick heal to something you can use easily, (I use F) since you'll be using health potions a lot

Some tips: (sorry for typing too much but giving tips to youtubers is my hobby)
- buy a piggy bank from merchant and put all of ur money in there to not lose it, if u put ur money here once, u can use the quick stack feature to automatically put ur money to it
But, what is quick stack?
The chest icon u will find under ur inventory, to use quick stack u:
1. Need to be close to a chest/piggy bank/magic storage or just any kind of storage
2. It works only with items that are already in the storage, so if u have dirt in ur chest, it will quick stack dirt from ur inventory to the chest, so u dont need to keep running from chest to chest to clean ur inventory, but click one single button
- most optimal arena for any stage of the game are platforms with 25 tiles of free space apart, ur had only like 10, u might not be able to jump that high, so u should get a sandstorm in a bottle or yellow balloon, if u still struggle with jumping there use ur hook,
- ok so, I assume u do not have a class, but i will show u the power of strongest class in the game which is summoner, get urself a weapon called stormjaw staff which drops from stormilions, the blue electro antilions u fought in underground desert, get flinx fur coat or wulfrum armor as well for the +1 minion slot, trust me these 2 stormjaws are no joke, they have SS desert scourge kill time on infernum (20 seconds to be exact), not sure about vanilla calamity but im pretty sure its really good on non infernum as well, u can also use leather whip or snapthorn to help ur minions
- use calamity discord, "help-advice-read-pins" channel to be exact, its really helpful and u can ask anything in here, u can also ask there if ur loadout (accessories etc.) is ok for certain boss fight

Although I know it will be useful for progression, I'm not too sure about choosing a specific class as it will limit me with what I can use and I do want to use all different types of weapons purely on a entertaining and enjoyable experience
@@_CJS I get using different weapons for fun and all that especially for a YT video, but almost all mid to late game builds focus on buffing specific stats to maximize damage for that kind weapon. in your case probably mage or melee weapons.
Edit I forgot multiclass is a thing. basically you split your accessories, one half for one class the other half for a different class
The step stool is the most overpowered thing in the game, and can 1 hit Yharim even though he's not in the game yet as a boss, and is already defeated by CJS by holding step stool alone
Also some tips for Desert Scourge:
-Use the map where it covers your screen, so you can see when it is charging at you, this is useful for all worm bosses because headshots from them deal so much damage.
-Star Fury, or Enchanted Sword is a good option, use recipe browser because in calamity they are craftable
-For armor, use full gold, and your accessories seem good enough
Once again, this series is amazing so far, and its only the 2nd episode! I hope you can kill Desert Scourge next time, and maybe Crabulon also!
For all the items that are labeled as "materials", you can check what they are used for at the guide, in the crafting section
So here are some tips for you, comrade!
1. You can block-switch your dirt floor to the wooden one, so it will look much more beautiful. Also I can recommend you testing some block combinations (like different types of wood, gray bricks and something easy-obtainable like that). It will improve your house so much.
2. Calamity allows you to craft Lucky Horseshoe from 8 gold bars, so you won't receive any fall damage.
3. When you were discovering space, you were too high to find sky islands, they usually spawn much lower.
4. Collect anything you find in Laboratories, especially power cell stations. Also place them down somewhere at your base, so they will start producing batteries.
5. Sell most of the stuff you don't actually need, like Inner Tube, money is essential at the beginning of the game.
6. Use money to buy bombs for Hellevator and pylons to travel faster.
7. Before starting any boss fight - prepare an arena! Place at least 2 levels of platforms, place some torches to identify your targets more easily, place a campfire, star bottle and heart lamp (if you have spare Life Crystal). Even the King Slime in Revengeance can annihilate you without a proper arena.
8. Desert fossil is actually useful, if you can find extractinator. Sturdy fossil can be used in good ranger armor.
9. Try exploring jungle. It is hard, but it pays out most of the time. If you find a boomstick, it should be gg for the Eye, just don't forget to build a house for gun dealer (tip: gun dealer loves the nurse and they both likes desert, so you can build a house for them in here and place a pylon)
10. As I understand, you use healing potions from hotbar (maybe I'm wrong). You have a bind for a quick healing potions, so you don't need to switch of your weapon. Also there is a button to drink all potions from your inventory at once, which will be usefull later on, when you'll have much more potions to drink.
11. Try exploring sky islands, if you have any Gravitation Potions. The Starfury is really powerful.
12. Try digging deep enough in the desert. Here's something interesting waiting for you, after the Desert Scourge will be dead.
13. When you reach hell - don't forget to make few small houses for Demolitionist and, maybe, Tavernkeeper in the future. They both like that Underground vibe.
14. Take your time and enjoy the game!

Hey there CJS. Found your channel from your Calamity music ranking videos, and have been interested in this little serious you're doing because of it. I hope you end up having a good time playing through the game I hold so dear to my heart! Here's a tip for you: Keep your keybinds close together to prevent having to reach over your keyboard to simply heal or use your hook. My recommendation for keybinds are these: Q = Quick heal, E = Inventory, F = Grapple, Z = Armour Set Bonus, X = God Slayer Dash (PREVIOUS TWO WONT BE USEFUL UNTIL MUCH LATER ON), C = Rage, V = Adrenaline. I hope this recommendation helps, and as I said previously, have an amazing time playing Calamity! (It only gets better from here)
pro tip right off the bat…you could use ropes to build up to the sky island instead of blocks, they arent physical and you can climb them, you can place them the same as any other block, from the ground up, they dont need to be touching any blocks
edit: btw you still missed something in that lab lol…theres the power cell factories and charging station that youll need, the factories have like little hammer things on top and are animated and the charging station is nearby them on a platform

Yo here's a few tips for you:
In calamity, you can craft almost all of the accessories that you normally wouldn't be able to craft in vanilla (example: in calamity you can craft the blizzard in a bottle and the sandstorm in a bottle, while in vanilla you can't), i recommend using the Vanilla Item Recipes page on the Official wiki (don't use the Fandom wiki)so you can see what is craftable and what isn't.
Almost all the biomes in the games contain a shrine. Shrines are small little buildings that usually contain a chest with an accessory related to the biome. The Underground Desert shrine contains the Luxor's Gift accessory, which is one of the best pre-hardmode accessories you can get.
Those 2 bars at the top are known as Rage (red) and Adrenaline (green), Rage builds up when enemies are around you and gives you a 1.35x damage boost for 9 seconds when activated. Adrenaline only fully builds up when you don't get hit in a boss fight for 30 seconds. When Adrenaline is activated, you gain a 2.5x damage boost for 5 seconds.
A really important thing you should do, is go on your keybind settings and bind everything new that calamity adds, because everything is unbinded by default, including the Rage and Adrenaline bars.
I know you're doing it for the meme, but please stop using Step Stool. In calamity, every accessory slot has to count.
Aim to craft the Terraspark boots before hardmode. I'm pretty sure every single part of the Terraspark boots is craftable, so it is MUCH easier than in vanilla. The reason i'm telling you this is because Terraspark boots have upgrades in calamity, and with speed almost being a necessity in boss fights, you can't miss out on it.
Always wear the full sets of a armor set so you can get the set bonus.
And lastly, craft the Sandstorm/Blizzard in a bottle, as they are the best double jump accessories you can get in the moment (cloud in a bottle's double jump is much smaller compared to those 2).
Edit: i didn't finish watching the video, so i didn't know you already knew how to use the Rage and Adrenaline bars already.
In vanilla you CAN craft sandstorm in a bottle and blizzard in a bottle. But in hardmode

@@_CJS shrines are spawning in their biomes. There's no specific way to find them, but desert one spawn in a big desert only (with underground desert), corruption spawns frequently in holes or on their way down, but in underground, crimson spaws the same but there's morw chance to find it when you'll get down to underground
to get out of a minecart you can press the mount key, or just grapple, and I'm not sure if you know yet but there is a setting where you can just autoswing every item without having to click every time, so you can just hold down click, some weapons and things like blocks already are auto swing but not every weapon unless you enable the autoswing setting. in labs most things are just decoration but you should take the kinda bigger things which are battery factory things, and also take power stations, and a couple of things you find in the chests are just crafting material for plenty of useful things. a tip for inventory management, some things like gel or fallen stars can also be counted as ammo, so if you need space you can move something like fallen stars or gel into ammo slots. wulfrum battery is just mainly useful if you are to use summon weapons. for placing platforms it would be easier to turn off smart cursor mode and go into manual cursor mode by pressing ctrl as that would prevent any mess from being made while trying to make an arena. something that may help is to explore the sky more, to find floating islands as you can get a pretty useful weapon from a chest

Tips:
I'm pretty sure the built in dash can be activated by double tapping A or D as well, it'll be easier to not have to remember a keybind for that.
Double jumps reset the fall damage counter, so if you're falling a long distance with your double jump you can use it right before you hit the ground and take no fall damage. There is also an accessory called the lucky horseshoe that completely negates all fall damage.
Calamity really rewards you for sticking to a single class of weapons (it also adds a fifth class called rogue). Using a summon while using a weapon from another class usually means that the summon does reduced damage. This can actually lower your overall damage in some cases, since the summon interferes with I-frames (your other weapon by itself might do more damage than the weapon plus a summon).
Grenades from the demolitionist are one of the strongest weapons for early game, they do ~60 damage and have an area of effect, but they can also damage you so be careful.
When making an arena, it might be good to flatten the ground as well, that way you don't get stuck against a wall in the middle of a boss fight.
Small tip I thought I'd share. There's an option in the settings to enable auto-swing for all weapons. It's nice for fast weapons that requires spam clicking
IMO, all weapons should've been autoswing to begin with.

Doing pretty good for a first time calamity playthrough
I know hardly anything about calamity, but i will give you some useful tips i picked up.
when fighting the desert scourge, i recommend fossil armour, hermes boots, a shield of cthulu(the eye is easier than the desert scourge, and the dash is super handy.) a cloud in a bottle/ horseshoe balloon and rocket boots.
as for weapons, i found the combination of the minishark and flash bullets(these are crafted with 1 grenade and 3 glass) to be really good.
thats all i can give, but i hope it helps!
here are some tips that could help you out quite a bit
first i would put a keybind on the recipe browser and throw any materials you get into it as soon as you can to see what weapons/armor you can craft with them
you should also definitely buy a piggy bank from the merchant because you can store your money and you can still spend it from inside the piggy bank
i would also not recommend buying weapons from npcs as usually they are pretty bad, usually being replaced quickly for something you could craft easily.
i saw that at 32:41 you were manually using potions, you can actually press B to use all potions in your inventory and H to use the best healing potion avaliable
edit: oh yeah you should probably get to 400 hp as well

I just beat Supreme Witch Calamitas in my first playthrough today. I played on death mode and it took me over 10 hours to beat as a mage. It is fun seeing someone going through the same experience that I just had. You are doing really well so far considering your lack of experience, and I hope this mod ends up being very enjoyable for you. If I could give you any advice, It would be to relax and enjoy the experience. You are going to die a lot and you will have to come to terms with that. Boss fight deaths should not be seen as negative, but they should be thought of as in a way you get to enjoy the boss that much longer. Bosses take a lot of work and are the highlight of this mod, and if you can let deaths just be extensions to the pleasure, you will find yourself raging a lot less. This was my way of keeping my sanity against Devourer of Gods, Yharon, and Supreme Calamitas which took about 100, 60, and 150 attempts respectively. Also my calamity playthrough was inspired by your music ranking videos. Listening to the music reminded me of the short time I played the mod with my friends and hyped me up for a playthrough. For that I am very thankful. After I take down the Exo Mechs and Boss Ruch I am heading off to do Infernum, so wish me good luck. This was my first time commenting on a video despite using RUclips for most of my life, so I am sorry if there is any bad grammar, a lack of organization, or this comment was too long.
im glad at least someone beat it as a mage…in my master death mage playthrough, after 40 attempts on her i gave up, it was actually so miserable
Use the dash or hook right before the desert scourge is about to charge into you to dodge it, this is the strat with most worm bosses, they will try to home onto you but cant turn too sharply, so if you suddenly become 90 degrees to the right of them they cant turn sharp enough to hit you

I'd recommend when you get items giving them to the guide, as he can show you what you can make with them! This is absolutely useful and you should totally use it

if i had any tip, its to use Calamity’s built in dash, lots of the bosses are built around instantly changing your momentum via dashing. Jumping over and dashing over bosses, or even just keeping your momentum when running, its helpful

@@_CJSand definitely set a hotkey for it as opposed to the default double tap dash, trust me, with how much you will end up dashing, you need an instant activation as opposed to that extra fraction of a second it takes to double tap dash xD

(quick desert scourge guide) for desert scourge u just have to learn when to dodge and then use a double jump when hes beneath i think but what i do is i just run with hermes boots in one direction so it doesnt go beneath me and when it tries to touch me i fall down the platforms or jump over him also add campfires and heart lanterns once u max out hp

@@_CJS ive seen that the diamond crawler also spawns very often instead of other crawlers at the lava layer i think i had 2 next to eachother by accident and another 1 was very close to them (u can use battle potions for spawn rates) on another note if ur interested in calamity music there was a calamity fan song that dropped called ignite my flame i recommend watching it and maybe even putting it in ranking vid (its about yharim if u know who he is)

Infernum mode music does work without having the Infernum mod itself so maybe consider that for the cooler boss tracks
There is another mod called Vanilla Calamity Mod Music which also replaces Vanilla music but more focused on biomes. In the config of the mod, u can give priority to Infernum music since it does also have a few boss tracks.
There's Calamity's Vanaties, mainly adds some more vanity and cute little things like plushies, vanity sets & pets
There the Catalyst mod which is similar to Hunt of the Old God where it also add a boss, Astrageldon, and more weapons mainly for summoner due to the lack of whips
There are texture packs too but the main problem is that like, you might prefer this aspect of one texture pack, but another aspect of another texture pack. I do know how to compile texture packs and can combine sprites from various packs but that would require having some way of personally messaging u

I HIGHLY recommend the Wayfair music pack! It's very good and yes, it has Calamity motifs!
Alright i have a little suspicion that you will be struggling a lot with the bosses both from calamity and vanilla (wich do have changes in revegeance), so i recommend you get potions for each fight (a lot of potions actually as many as you can to help you) but don't drink them all for your first few fights. In Calamity, boss summons are infinite, so you can practice as much as you want, but have a ton of buffs help. Also build an arena, not a small one too, try making it bigger horizontally so you can run more in each direction.

Your arena could definitely be longer. That said, not a bad first attempt for the desert scourge fight! Avoiding the head is pretty important as it does a lot of damage. Watch for the boss cursor to see when it's about to charge you. Also, you can attempt it as much as you want really because the summon item isn't consumed when you use it.
Oh wow, I just had a look back at my base recording and yeah I didn't realise the summon item isn't consumed, that is so good! I can't wait to have loads of attempts at it next episode!

Use the recipe browser whenever you get a material. It can be really useful because there are lots of weapons and items you can craft. Also i think the best controls are: e for inventory, r for grapple, c for using a mount, q for healing potions, v for rage mode, t for adrenaline mode, control for smart cursor. But its up to you.
Yeah I do definitely need to use the recipe browser more, I just need to get more used to my current key binds, for adrenaline and rage modes, I've got 2 buttons on the side of my mouse with I have equipped for them!

u can press right click to equip armor, accsesories, hook and pet
u also can make an accsesorien for your falling issue, use 5 gold to make golden horseshoe
and also don't buy weapon from npc cause some weapon is better and easier to get

Yeah that would be very useful, at the moment however I don't have any weapons that are mana heavy, so I probably won't worry about this until I need to
tips:
its better to fight king slime first since he drops the slimy saddle which would be good for dodging desert scourge
choose a class from now to specialize in and get the armor, weapons and accessories for that class

I'm not too sure about choosing a specific class as it will limit me with what I can use although I know it will be useful for progression.

@@_CJS yes choosing a specific class may limit you but allows for more damage output and benefits but its recommended not required so go hybrid if you want.
Not using a class specific load out gives you too many options in my opinion. The shear amount of items could potentially be overwhelming at some points. Just sifting through the mage stuff in my play through took quite a large amount of time.
@@_CJSif you were to choose a class though, do rogue, as its a calamity class, but i do respect that you wanna play classless, i always pick a class but i try to use as many new weapons as possible lol
CJS, try to craft something with the wulfrum scrap. The items are pretty funny like a grappling hook that is automaticly used if you would take fall damage.

His yharim theme (called “Ignite my Flame”) is one of the best themes i’ve ever heard, especially for a fan made theme. The singer is fantastic and it feels like a genuine calamity theme, rather than just a bunch of motifs shoved together in an unorganized mess like a lot of other fan themes.

Catalyst is probably better for experienced playthroughs as.. you know, the mod has a pre moonlord weapon that can carry you to devourer of gods (the chances of first timers getting such weapon is very hard but the boss still has very broken weapons and the armour is really op)
In summary, the boss is still really cool so i wouldnt mind him downloading it

Catalyst is absolutely brutal for someone playing calamity for the first time, I've played it dozens of times and I still don't usually beat that boss in under 10 attempts.
