I’ve only beaten calamity solo once and skipped some optional bosses so I was going in without much experience. I considered going death mode but I just settled for revengence. In prehardmode I went for a fully defensive build and didn’t really care for increased summoner damage from obsidian armor. Survivalbilitu was more important for me. I actually completely forgot about the Queen Spider Staff in hardmode and I killed destroyer with the Rusty Beacon Prototype. The lighting rod staff is actually able to do passive damage to neutral enemies! I don’t know when I figured that out but it’s super useful. DoG gave me a lot of trouble but after I fought it countless times I was finally able to do it. I was surprised the vortex sentry was able to do so much dps to it when you resummon it right onto DoG. Thank goodness because it would NOT give me the drop I made a machine for yharon that spawned mobs so the Cadaverous Carrion would always spawn damage cuz I couldn’t hit him. And that leads to today. Thanks for watching it! Always interesting to see how different people tackle the same challenge. Taking down the destroyer with the rusty beacon is insane, I’m surprised it does enough damage to finish in one night! Great job on beating calamity with arguably the hardest official sub-class listed on the wiki, it's very impressive to see it done in the modern time, since JLF's run is now pretty outdated, so it was intresting to see how someone would go about the run, though i do have my own thoughts on the run, and some optimizations that could be done, like for the Mechs you can get the Deep Diver accessory to get an early HM ram dash, to go through the prime melee arms or destroyer without taking damage. Or just gouing for Cryogen 1st, then fishing for crates to get an adamatite pickaxe, to mine the Cryonic ore to make the Ornate Shield. there are also a lot of other things that could be done, like progression skips to get some gear earlier and skipping harder bosses for the moment to get better gear for them, but i don't mean progressin skips as in the kind where you kill DoG before Old Duke, i mean skips like killing Ravager or Aureus pre-mechs to get good Sentries earlier, as in killing them with the Queen Spider Staff as they are both vare land based bosses especially Aureus, so it shouldn't be too bad to do, and after you get 1 mech dead it would be even faster to go for 1 of there 2 bosses and kill them for there loot, just to make the other mechs and rest of HM a cake walk. then we come to the Post-polterghast stage, where going for Blood Flare armor for more survivability would make it easier to out last OD, and going for DoG you should almost always have fleash totem on to not get 1 shot by the head, as the Flesh Totem halves contact damage every 20 seconds, this would also be pretty useful on Yharon, if you don't have the dash timeing fully memorized. Other differances include the fact that any of the Wing Boots Combinations are just not worth using ever, ther significantly worse Wings then other options and you just don't walk on the ground enough to justify the need for boots, pretty much after Mechs and Fairy Boots none of the boots help a run as much as a good Survivability accessory would, since you will be flying for most bosses and the ones you don't fly on ,you can bunny hop to keep up momentum with just Wings. and especially Seraph Tracers are the worst, as they used to be better then Drew's wings for everything outside of No-hits, for the better i-frames they gave, but now that that's not a thing anymore, there just flat out bad. this also means you only ever need to kill Providance once in Hell for the Shield, since the Elysian wings while the best pre-DoG, aren't that much better then Terragon Wings, and since you should upgrade to Silva Wings right after DoG the extra kill and hallowed arena prep are just a waste of time over all. the other changes to the run i can think of are more so out of preferance like accessory choice outside of the few key ones and what to use when and when, but other then that, there isn't that much else to say about this run form me.
Totally agree on wing-boots thing. Providence wings + lightning boots carried me through Old Duke and turned his fight into a cakewalk, while before it hardly seemed possible. Also i swapped all Absorber-like accessories for flat damage boosts, 'cause Absorber-likes have a lot of completely useless bonuses like boosts while standing still, mining speed or healing for 5 hp on receiving a 200+ hp hit.
I've never played Terraria, I just like watching long videos of nerds talking about things I don't know, and I enjoyed this very much! One thing that surprised me though, is HOW MUCH Dungeon Defenders stuff is in Terraria!!!! I'm a HUGE DD fan, one of my favoritest games ever it's such a classic. I had heard that DD2 had a crossover, but I didn't know that Terraria did THIS MUCH for it!!!! I am STOKED. This being a Tower Defense challenge anyway, and that being what the Tavernkeep is made for apparently, awwww it's so awesome I am happy that this exists

yooo wtf is this, you have some serious dedication to do this, and I'm just in the beginning of calamity standard expert because of my damaged left hand, this made me realise how painful calamity will be late game and even worse if i do revengence or death later on..... jesus but holy gg
the thing i love most about this video is the emphasis on importance of self boost ( with music ), i genuinely love watching these sorts of vids and then go back to play the game while experiencing certain soundtracks at my own will; whether it be from music boxes or play them on youtube
Did you know that most piercing weapons do vastly reduced damage against multi-segment bosses? That's to prevent cheese and absolutely annihilating those bosses shortly after they spawn. A lot of the non-piercing sentries would propably have done a much better job against DOG
Ayeee congrats on the challenge , I was doing something similar myself after I saw your vanilla run though it got held up at moon lord and I ended up forgetting about it. Also I actually used the caustic croaker staff in order to beat slime god , unsure if it was changed since but it was insanely good for me then with a mix of ballista and the frogs
44:18 this is why i don't like anything past moonlord in calamity, it turns terraria into a bullethell with bs coming from all directions with invincible phases
one thing i've found that helps with OOA is building a platform 10 blocks above the ground and then stacking Lightning Auras on top of each other, effectively doubling the damage they can do in an area. all you have to do is place one on the ground first and then on the platform above and they will overlap the circles, it works wonders. even more so if you use Hoiks to stop all grounded enemies from getting anywhere but some would argue that that is just trivializing the entire event. also that was an absolutely beautiful Yharon fight holy hell
When it comes to the ending, technically EVERY boss can be beat with anything if you're good enough, it's just a matter of getting good enough at it, lol.
Regarding the OoA Explosive Trap staff, it can be extremely good with a little arena prep IMO as you can use timed actuated blocks to drop the mines in one spot on top of the portal, a few of them can instantly kill most of the enemies as they emerge, flying or otherwise. (This same trick also is very good for the Lightning Aura staff IMO.) It'd be cool if higher tiers of it maybe had an alternate placement mode to make the mines magnetic or something though. Great video!
As a touhou player, the boss fights in this mod amaze me. I haven't played terraria since cactus armor was new (whenever that was), but this video has single handedly inspired me to pick it up again.
smaller youtuber but amazing content creation. you are really a step ahead of a lot of terraria youtubers. just inspired my next play through of calamity 👍🏻
For DOG a bed in the arena puts in so much work. I use my magic mirror on a hotkey, but you can just mirror away whenever he would finally catch you. It really trivializes the fight. Works vs the lazer grid too, if you don't have discord off cd
I’m not a fan of using things like recalls, mirrors or nurse healing for boss fights, but this is really good advice for others who are fine with those
@@ChiefLogan_ I finished HC for both Master Mode Death Mode and then Infernum a couple weeks back, any available tool is justified vs those beasts lol, being nearly 200 hours into attempts for an ingame plushie will push you to desperation. Especially since I *struggle* vs bullet hell bosses. But higher difficulties turn off nurse anyways, so the house is really just for the movement tech. I don't consider it any different from things like teleporters, minecarts, or wormhole potions. All less common tech to be sure, but hardly game breaking.
Oh if it’s hardcore then all my existing rules for what I use go out the window, do whatever it takes to survive. Congrats on your HC runs, that takes some serious skill and dedication
My fav sentries are pseudo-sentries like Clinger Staff and Nimbus Rod. Clinger Staff can single-handedly take half of OOA by killing everything that comes out of one portal, while you only need to deal with the other.
I hope to do a pseudo-summoner run at some point using weapons like this and the piranha gun. Things that feel like summon weapons but arent
6 месяцев назад+3
@@ChiefLogan_ So many "melee" weapons are actually guns that people needed to come up with "true melee" as a thing. Terraria weapon categorization is weird.
The worst is probably one of yharon's drops, the burning sky, it is classified as a melee weapon despite having no melee capability AT ALL, projectiles don't even spawn near you (granted, this is more a magic weapon than a gun, but still)
What I find interesting about how Old Duke is designed is that, the fight itself is better left for after you beat DoG, but its loot is far inferior to the loot you get _from_ DoG.
Yeah I think he would fit better as the post-ML version of Duke. Able to be fought at any time but pretty difficult to beat early, with loot that makes other bosses much easier if you defeat it early. Would probably be best if his weapon drops had a similar DPS to DoG's weapons
Good, you did it correctly this time (except for the lunatic cultist. KRR did without cheating, but whatever). It makes the video much more interesting
My favorite summon weapon is the Abyss bomb-summoning one, I beat Empress of Light with it and nothing else. It’s cool seeing you do this too but the entire game. I couldn’t possible do anything close to that Go you :D
I did this run a month or so ago and it was really fun. I managed to get dreadmine staff before astrum aureus and found it was very affective against the boss. Hive pod OP.
I would imagine how different this challenge would play out given the changes that came about since this video's debut (the fabsol candle reworks and all)
I just was scrolling on RUclips and found this video and I was like there’s no way he could do it..right? But slowly with determination and pushing through he did it! Chief Logan is a VERY UNDERRATED RUclipsR and very good. now do it in infernum mode🗣️
@@ChiefLogan_ It's a whole new game at this point. Many many fun additions to make the subclass feel like it actually exists. I will always miss perdition being a broken mess of a sentry on launch but that's just a good memory now. But it does seem like the strat to rush OOA, then go on a Pre-HM boss rush has not changed at all.
@MrJFL unless vanilla nerf the first tier of OOA, I don’t see that ever changing. Going from one sentry slots to three is such a huge power boost that even without the four new weapons, it’d still be the meta
@MrJFL I think if I ever do a thorium run then OOA may be less of an overall power boost as there’s other items and armors that boost sentries. From what I can see it might be the mod that expands on sentries most. I’m excited to hear what you think of it once you’ve completed watching it! As I said above your run was a huge inspiration for both this video and the vanilla one
This was a load of fun to watch, and probably a pain to get through. But with the sentries as magic weapon idea; I feel the Ballistae with their ability to fire upon summoning, maybe should've been highe in the B tier if not low to mid A tier.
Unfortunately that’s not the case any more after 1.4.4 - all vanilla sentries now have a couple seconds of cool down after they’re placed before they can shoot
@@ChiefLogan_ well yes, but considering you do not use other weapons (whips/classless), that drawback isnt really relevant. I have used the weapon in a regular playthrough and it deals quite a bit of dps considering its post eye. I can definitely say it's not f tier at the very least.
Having done this a while back (before exo mechs were out) I watched the whole thing wondering when the resummoning sentries shoe was gonna drop, esp after WOF XD (ballista resummon is, or at least used to be, one of the highest damage strats for summoner wof fight, even in calamity). Glad it got you through the exo mechs, that boss can be a tough fight at the best of times!
The issue with resummoning ballistas now is that most vanilla sentries have a cool-down after being placed before they can fire. That kinda got me used to not spam placing them even though calamity sentries don’t have the same restriction
Bro fr ended the video killing Deerclops using weapons from literal gods and calling his weapon garbage just to disrespect him lmao😂 Edit: I like how you make this video and the amount of determination to take down the Exo Mechs😊

@@ChiefLogan_ The brain of Cthulhu was what it was when it went to 8 brains but if you just kill it after the perferators it's a lot easier to do. Just killed Skeletron and it was super easy, didn't build an arena. Last time I did this run, from my memories the slime gods were kind of painful
@@ChiefLogan_ nvm, just killed slime god easily. Yeah seyli is probably right about it not getting hard until post moonlord. If you want a harder experience you'd probably have to do death mode or infernum. From the research I did and gameplay so far, spell tome progression is also paced pretty well
Just a heads up you will not enjoy DoG. Been doing one myself for fun lately and that was one fight that took annoyingly long. But TBF I'm not optimizing arenas 24/7. Also just some advice: Abaddon line, Brimflame Armor, Prismatic Armor, and Blazing core are your friends. New parry mechanic is fun as hell and makes CV and Polterghast look like a fire sale on The Giant. Absolutely free.

the other changes to the run i can think of are more so out of preferance like accessory choice outside of the few key ones and what to use when and when, but other then that, there isn't that much else to say about this run form me.
I find your ability to play the wrong track for every boss impressive
Let it be known, I was a big fan of your work before...
Bit these edits are an amazing jump in quality! Can't wait for you to get the attention you rightfully deserve, because 9K subs is nowhere NEAR enough!👌
Thank you so much Alex!
just found you for the first time, under rated ass youtuber, you arent annoying, you make cool length content, you TEACH about the game. 10/10 channel would watch again
33:46 I feel this entire part so much, I suck without music so the moment I have good music to back up my gameplay I too cook, and so did you
Ngl this video was really well put together and I appreciated it through and through, nice work man you’re up one sub 🙏🙏
So glad I found your channel!! I love these videos so much and your narration. Very nice, light editing and a chill personality. True diamond in the rough right here!
W vid man! I actually couldn't believe this video was an hour long. It definitely didn't feel that way. Amazing editing
been a while since a video got me hooked from the start until the very end, this felt like a movie. Hats off to you sir! Massive respect
yooo wtf is this, you have some serious dedication to do this, and I'm just in the beginning of calamity standard expert because of my damaged left hand, this made me realise how painful calamity will be late game and even worse if i do revengence or death later on.....
jesus but holy gg
the thing i love most about this video is the emphasis on importance of self boost ( with music ), i genuinely love watching these sorts of vids and then go back to play the game while experiencing certain soundtracks at my own will; whether it be from music boxes or play them on youtube
I love your content! It was so fun to watch, hope you'll be making more challenges! And please take care of yourself especially your mentality.
Thank you so much! I’m at a better place mentally when it comes to RUclips than I have been for a long time, looking forward to the next few videos!
Did you know that most piercing weapons do vastly reduced damage against multi-segment bosses? That's to prevent cheese and absolutely annihilating those bosses shortly after they spawn. A lot of the non-piercing sentries would propably have done a much better job against DOG
And here I am struggling with the Twin's fight.
Great pacing, great narration, great editing - you've got yourself a new subscriber
Thank you very much!
The cinematics between chapters are just chefs kiss.
Summoner is my favorite class, so this challenge sounds really fun!!! Also Rusty Beacon is OP fr
Man, hearing the Cryogen theme during your video (the very best OST of the entire mod in my opinion) made me want to play Calamity again. Good stuff.
Love the edits you do . great humor as well with selected clips
I’ve always got respect for calamity challenge runs since the mod contains so much content. Great video.
When it comes to the ending, technically EVERY boss can be beat with anything if you're good enough, it's just a matter of getting good enough at it, lol.
almost an hour only to get the deerclops sentry and putting on F tier, amazing
man the disrespect on the deerclops at the end. not even giving it a mention or just a slightly bigger segment
Regarding the OoA Explosive Trap staff, it can be extremely good with a little arena prep IMO as you can use timed actuated blocks to drop the mines in one spot on top of the portal, a few of them can instantly kill most of the enemies as they emerge, flying or otherwise. (This same trick also is very good for the Lightning Aura staff IMO.)
It'd be cool if higher tiers of it maybe had an alternate placement mode to make the mines magnetic or something though.
Great video!
Love the editing especially when a new chapter comes. Definetely gonna watch you more.
What I learned from this, is everything is possible through enough dying and defence. Especially defence. Defence over damage almost always.
Voice so smooth I fell asleep, video so good I woke back up and watched it again so I could actually watch the content
As a touhou player, the boss fights in this mod amaze me. I haven't played terraria since cactus armor was new (whenever that was), but this video has single handedly inspired me to pick it up again.
Like 1.2 I think
Damn the quality of your videos just keeps getting better! Fantastic video on a very fun challenge
jumping on a pyukumuku to fall faster was not one of the things i expected LMAO nice run
playing calamity without music is a torture
Watching you slowly get better at your shield bashes was so satisfying.
smaller youtuber but amazing content creation. you are really a step ahead of a lot of terraria youtubers. just inspired my next play through of calamity 👍🏻
Couldn't agree more just imagine waffletime, cjdeathbot and this legend doing multiplayer
what a video guys, so glad i discover this chanel here. your content is pretty good man ❤
that end bit was great, well done on the run
Thank you!
The editing is on point !
The fact that the calamity mod has an actual subclass for senterys in it is nice for this run.
Does it? I was using vanilla armor and accessories to fight the Exo Mechs because calamity doesn’t add anything that gives sentry slots
@@ChiefLogan_he prob means calamity overhaul mod
Howdy the engineers in the field
My fav sentries are pseudo-sentries like Clinger Staff and Nimbus Rod. Clinger Staff can single-handedly take half of OOA by killing everything that comes out of one portal, while you only need to deal with the other.
I hope to do a pseudo-summoner run at some point using weapons like this and the piranha gun. Things that feel like summon weapons but arent
@@ChiefLogan_ So many "melee" weapons are actually guns that people needed to come up with "true melee" as a thing. Terraria weapon categorization is weird.
The worst is probably one of yharon's drops, the burning sky, it is classified as a melee weapon despite having no melee capability AT ALL, projectiles don't even spawn near you (granted, this is more a magic weapon than a gun, but still)
This honestly deserves more views great editing
8:42 This was a legitimately really impressive edit.
42:59 "Blurp-blurp-blurp-blurp-blurp-blurp-blurp-blurp-bluoorgh" 🙏
Good, you did it correctly this time (except for the lunatic cultist. KRR did without cheating, but whatever). It makes the video much more interesting
8:40 that transition killed me 😂
Now do infurnum…. (don’t feel pressure and don’t do it if you feel like it’s too much) (really enjoyed the vid)
I do need to play infernum at some point, but probably not with a restriction as heavy as this
My favorite summon weapon is the Abyss bomb-summoning one, I beat Empress of Light with it and nothing else. It’s cool seeing you do this too but the entire game. I couldn’t possible do anything close to that
Go you :D
I wonder if it got nerfed at some point, because in this playthrough it was pretty bad compared to other on-tier options
No I used it in a different way you did
I also just purely liked the idea of it
Okay hate on the Squirrel staff fine, however C'MON N SLAM (the throwing animation for the squirrel looks like its shooting a basket ball)
I did this run a month or so ago and it was really fun. I managed to get dreadmine staff before astrum aureus and found it was very affective against the boss. Hive pod OP.
I would imagine how different this challenge would play out given the changes that came about since this video's debut (the fabsol candle reworks and all)
28:38 how did he go from 17k hp to 0?
Moon Lord's health bar is bugged in revengeance and above. It still counts the eyes health as being there after the core is revealed
I did this on master mode revengence around 7 months ago, I can tell you I cried literal tears of joy when I beat scal.
I just was scrolling on RUclips and found this video and I was like there’s no way he could do it..right? But slowly with determination and pushing through he did it! Chief Logan is a VERY UNDERRATED RUclipsR and very good.
now do it in infernum mode🗣️
The scene from Harry Potter is the best joke of this video. I smiled. 😁
yooooooooooooooooooo another cool challenge! I believe MrJFL did this a few years back, can't wait to see it done in modern calamity!
His series was a massive inspiration for this playthrough! I wanted to see how different it would be now that calamity has some pre-boss sentries
@@ChiefLogan_ Oh easily. I wouldn't see it changing either. Just an observation. Haven't seen your whole run yet BTW but I will eventually.
When Guidelight of Oblivion (my beloved) is ranked in C, I cried a bit. I guess it isn't as strong as it used to be!
Blud really said caustic croaker staff is bad because you need to use it more times than one😭
For a sentry, that’s a pretty massive drawback
@@ChiefLogan_ well yes, but considering you do not use other weapons (whips/classless), that drawback isnt really relevant. I have used the weapon in a regular playthrough and it deals quite a bit of dps considering its post eye. I can definitely say it's not f tier at the very least.
Chapters were an awesome touch bro
Having done this a while back (before exo mechs were out) I watched the whole thing wondering when the resummoning sentries shoe was gonna drop, esp after WOF XD (ballista resummon is, or at least used to be, one of the highest damage strats for summoner wof fight, even in calamity). Glad it got you through the exo mechs, that boss can be a tough fight at the best of times!
The issue with resummoning ballistas now is that most vanilla sentries have a cool-down after being placed before they can fire. That kinda got me used to not spam placing them even though calamity sentries don’t have the same restriction
@@ChiefLogan_ Oh fair, forgot they implemented that.
The tier list was a nice touch to this video
Dude you’re seriously underrated, I’m subscribing immediately!
As a support weapon dreadmine is amazing once mines build up it can chunk bosses for quite a bit
Hey this is a pretty cool video! Must have taken a while but totally worth it
Bro fr ended the video killing Deerclops using weapons from literal gods and calling his weapon garbage just to disrespect him lmao😂
Edit: I like how you make this video and the amount of determination to take down the Exo Mechs😊
For deerclops placement in progression, his drops overall should be much more usable
Me struggling on my spell tomes only run right now, which is so much easier I assume, never did sentry only
You over here just deciding to do sentries only
Great video!
Good luck with it! What part are you struggling with? I’ve considered a spell tomes run before so would be good to know ahead of time
@@ChiefLogan_ i am also doing a spell tome only run, and i am struggling in post-moon lord, but pre-hardmode and hardmode were easy
The chapter 3 clip with the twins as harry potter's eyes was honestly more unsettling than the actual spiders from that scene
A very impressive run but something i noticed is the underutilisation of dashing especially against Thanatos to dodge its head
Isn't there a sentry from deerclops?
Oh, oh wait that's hilarious.
does anyone else want to see this but with summons now?
like I know it'll probably be easier than sentries but I think it'd be fun to watch
When Ares stays on it's own -finish him off
When Artemis and Apollo stay on their own - finish them off
When Thanatos stays on it's own - hope and pray
30:30
The absorber ❌️
THE SPONGE ✅️✅️✅️✅️
Very good video. I love these types of challenge runs
You should try this challenge in Thorium mod, it adds a lot to the sentry subclass
I think I might at some point! Have a few other ideas first though
@@ChiefLogan_ i think you definitely should do a challenge playtrough on thorium mod when you are out of ideas. Thorium is a very fun mod that expands lots of subclasses
@@wombel332 in it the spearman finally became a normal class💀
I absolutely love Thorium, especially for multiplayer. Definitely the most “vanilla expansion” feeling mod that I’ve played. I really need to get around to making a video on it at some point, just need the right idea to get excited about
Wild how the Moonlord's theme fits so well with the D.O.G. fight
The neglect of the ooa fire sentry hurts as it the only sentry from that event that consistently hits flying mobs as well as having a higher dps than the sentry due to it's fire rate and explosive projectile
"I spawned the Scourge" as crabulon's theme starts playing
Using a boss playlist actually gives a +50% skill boost, it's pretty much a free buff
i did this playthrough before the abyssal amulet nerf and was probably my fav playthrough ever, might wanna give it another go now, just AS will probably be more difficult since i used abyssal amulet and rusty beacon prototype for him, crutching on the amulets DOT
This sounds like pure pain, torture, and suffering
