    Thanks for this video. I was always under the impression that the ghost had to choose cards to point to a randomly chosen final culprit. Being able to look at the cards and decide which set can be represented the best by them seems much easier.

    This is a fantastic walkthrough! It's the only one that shows how the ghost chooses cards and how the final verdict is chosen that I've seen. I had watched several others and was so confused. I actually felt confident that I can play the game after watching this one.

    One thing that isn't mentioned in either the rulebook or your video is that it probably makes sense for the ghost, during setup, to hold on to the "decoy" cards (the extra person/place/weapon cards that are not valid solutions). As the ghost, you want to make sure that the vision cards you deliver wouldn't accidentally match up with any of the decoys, and if you don't hold on to those cards (the instructions suggest placing them back in the box), then you have to keep standing up to look over your screen at the actual board to remind yourself what the decoys are.

    • @thediceyreview
      @thediceyreview  8 лет назад

      That's a very good tip! The ghost in this game is similar to the clue giver in codenames in that you have to be cognizant of what is on the play surface. Great suggestion!

      +TheBaronVonTerror Wow! You responded so fast!!! Today was my first time playing. It was a little hectic... trying to get my friends to actually play. Eventually we played, and they just barely managed to get all their characters places and weapons. But they guessed the incorrect culprit, but hey, it was loads of fun. They didn't really understand Clairvoyance tokens, so we just played without them and I showed all three of the shared vision cards. When I teach this to my family though, we will use the clairvoyancy. Again, thanks so much!

    • @thediceyreview
      @thediceyreview  8 лет назад +1

      +Jonah Benjamin haha it gives me a phone alert! Yeah you can house rule this game and it will still be a ton of fun. I may be mistaken but I think the clairvoyance tokens were added to this game after the initial design so it can be played without for sure. Whatever makes the game easy for you the fun of it is the theme.

    • @jonahbenjamin4496
      @jonahbenjamin4496 8 лет назад

      Yeah totally! By the way, I'm considering getting Champions of Midgard, how fun is it and how complex is it? Do you think I could teach my friends with ease, and is it a fun game?

    • @thediceyreview
      @thediceyreview  8 лет назад +1

      +Jonah Benjamin it's a good game one of my favorites of this past year. I prefer Lords of Waterdeep to it but some people like it better, it's personal preference I guess. The combat is fun and can be very strategic. It's not too hard to teach, I have an instructional on my page. I would say if your game group doesn't like randomness go with Lords of Waterdeep because the dice rolling in Champions of Midgard can sometimes hose you even with re-roll tokens. If you're a fan of dice games you'll probably prefer Midgard.

    • @thediceyreview
      @thediceyreview  7 лет назад +1

      kenneth lebron hey Kenneth! Thanks so much! Great question. You are supposed to limit how many times you can discard and draw cards. The crows are used to mark how many times you have done that. For a tough game you may only get to discard and draw once during the whole game. Easier modes let you discard and draw once per round. It really just depends on how hard you want to make it for yourself if you are playing the ghost. Hope this helps!

    14:00 The vision cards can be given to Psychics in any order, does not need to be from left to right.
    I thought they are supposed to place their vote before you give the next set of vision cards.
    I see now that's what the Psychics do when the timer is running... Guess a card by placing their Intuition Token on it and may place clairvoyancy tokens where other players have Intuition tokens.

    A few pointers to newcomers.
    1. Don't fret the number of killers, crime scenes and weapons to much. If you play with say eight rather than seven it's not a major change in difficulty.
    2. In the video the ghost provides the background for each killer, crime scene etc. I prefer to let the players do this so i clue them in on the murderer rather than them constantly trying to analyse their way towards my killer(s). It is however very important that you actually do this. otherwise you may run an entire run trying to point somebody towards a barber who they think is a gardener (yes that actually happened once)
    3. Don't sweat the number of tarot cards you draw. More cards just means an easier game.
    4. Don't play with the timer unless you feel like it. Alternatively ignore the sand timer and define a limit that's natural for you and take the time with a smart phone

    • @thediceyreview
      @thediceyreview  8 лет назад

      Games XP thanks! If at the end the right suspect isn't guessed by a majority of players everyone loses. In the case of a tie, the token from the person who is farthest in the clairvoyance track is picked. If there's still a tie, the token from the oldest person is picked.

    Great video, but I'm confused about one thing. For example, when a player guesses wrong (on any level i.e. person, place, thing) they cannot move on to the next level until they guess correctly. What happens to the correctly guessed cards if a player guesses incorrectly? Do the cards that got guessed right still stay on the board until all three levels are complete or does the psychics pick them up remove them from the group after the guessing phase? Just curious how the player who guessed wrong proceeds. Does he have to choose from a smaller pool or cards (narrowing it down so to speak) or are new cards added (if the correct cards are in fact removed) to prevent it being easier for the wrong psychic on the next hour?

    • @thediceyreview
      @thediceyreview  8 лет назад

      No the pool is smaller. The psychics will pick up the cards as they guess them and place them in their sleeves to create their group for end game deduction.

    Hi +TheBaronVonTerror, thanks for the video. It definitely helps after reading the semi-helpful rule book. But what's the replayability of this game?

    • @thediceyreview
      @thediceyreview  8 лет назад +1

      Hey David, the game has a good bit of replayability based on how many people you play with and who plays the ghost. You're going to start cycling through the cards eventually though and there is an expansion coming out this year that will add new cards. Alternatively you could buy Dixit and use the cards from that for some good variety. I feel that I've gotten my money's worth though and love this game as it is so thematically deep.

    Hi buddy,
    Firstly I want to thank you for the video because it helped me a lot. Secondly, I wanna ask you a question, which I really didn´t found in the rulebook - In the second phase as a ghost when you have to determine who is a true killer would you choose the culprit on your own and then match it with the cards or would you choose this person based on those cards ? Basicly, would the ghost choose the culprit on his own or there is some rule for him to choose that culprit ?
    Thank you buddy for you answer

  • @MajinWamu
    @MajinWamu 8 лет назад +1

    Hm, unless I have a more up to date version of the rule book, there are several rules you did incorrectly. For instance, players will always have all of their clairvoyance tokens from the start of the game, and each time they use one, it is discarded until turn four. After that they may use the tokens one more time, until the end of turn 7.

    • @thediceyreview
      @thediceyreview  8 лет назад

      No I didn't go in depth with it. If I'm being honest I'm not a huge fan of the clairvoyance track and don't think it was in the original game. I feel like it muddles the experience a bit. I wanted to touch on what the track does at least.

      goldhorse oh no! I sleeve everything just in case.
      For the big cards you can use Dixit Sleeves. I think I used mayday yellow. Make sure and get the premium sleeves they're better.
      For the ghost cards you can use any standard sleeves like you would use for magic cards. I use dragon shield or fantasy flight. In the fantasy flight cards they're gray.

      Awesome! Mysterium is good, Broom Service is wonderful at 5. Celestia is a great family weight push your luck game. A couple of party games that I’m really enjoying right now are Just One and Trapwords. I also have a good time with Camel Up and Flamme Rouge.

    does cl. token move up when you make a good guess and for ex. you guessed who is your culprit ? what happens if some players dont make it to the final stage ? what happens if for ex at final stage you reveal all the answers and they are all different ?

    • @thediceyreview
      @thediceyreview  6 лет назад

      Hedarth4695 the clairvoyance token moves up when you make a correct guess with your clairvoyance tokens. If a player doesn’t make the final stage unfortunately everyone loses!

    Hello. Wonderful game! One question though . The ghost does not remember who the culprit was right? So he picks at random who he thinks the culprit was right ? Thanks in advance

    • @MultiLioNik
      @MultiLioNik 8 лет назад

      Also does the ghost decide who the culprit is by choosing one of the tokens ?

    • @thediceyreview
      @thediceyreview  8 лет назад +4

      Hey Lio! Well the ghost gets to choose the culprit at the end of the game. So thematically it's like communing with these psychics has jogged the ghosts memory and narrowed the choices down enough for the ghost to remember.

    I like this game but it can be very frustrating when you don't have the faintest idea what the ghost is trying to tell you. You really need to think laterally. Love the artwork and the theme though. Play this in a dimly-lit room with ambient music and it really comes to life.

    • @thediceyreview
      @thediceyreview  6 лет назад

      Absolutely agree. I think the game is far from perfect. When we played with my father he had many of those "you were telling me to pick the police officer? How was I supposed to know that?" moments. It's also very tough to be the ghost at times because similar to the clue giver in Codenames you have to work with what you have. I will say that I still feel that when done right (by taking some of the steps you mentioned) I think this is one of the most thematic games you can play. The idea of only being able to communicate through visions was so well done and so cool. This is a winner but you definitely can make it more enjoyable with the right setting.

    Thank you for making this video, you REALLY cleared up a lot of confusion I had about different game phases. One question I do still have is regarding the voting in the end. This game can be played with up to 7 people. If the clairvoyance tokens are numbered 1-4, but say you were playing with 5 psychics and someone thought the ghost was trying to point them toward group five, how would you vote for #5 (since again, the clairvoyance tokens you put into your sleeve are only numbered 1-4). Thanks for any clarification and thanks again for the great video!

      @thediceyreview  7 лет назад +1

      Steve Bailey sorry Steve the order that the cards are revealed is the ghost's choice. (Or the player's if they wish whatever you feel.) The players vote based on their clairvoyance position. I misunderstood your question.

    Can you discuss with the ravens do please

    • @thediceyreview
      @thediceyreview  7 лет назад

      Christopher Zephro I should have brought that up. You put the ravens on the ghost screen and they are discarded by the ghost when you want to redraw a new hand. Depending on how difficult you want the game to be you can redraw once per round, three times per game, or once per game.

  • @MikeJB

    This is a great tutorial! I have one question however: the rules state that depending on the number of players, you get to start with a certain amount of clairvoyancy tokens (2-3 players:0, 4-5 players: 4, and 6-7 players 6). If you're only playing a 3 player game for example, and you get 0 clairvoyancy tokens, doesn't that make it extremely difficult to score any points on the clairvoyancy track unless you complete the initial identification stages within 4 turns, and even then, that only give you 4 clairvoyancy points, meaning you only get to see 1 card. That would seem to me to make the game very difficult for 3 or less players, or am I missing something?

    • @MikeJB
      @MikeJB 7 лет назад

      Many thanks for the reply, help, and some interesting rule variations to try out! I appreciate you taking the time to help.

    Do you give the vision cards face up or face down? I was wondering because it would seems more fair if every psychics reveal their vision cards at the same time, when the hourglass is turned.

    • @thediceyreview
      @thediceyreview  8 лет назад

      It's a good point, I give them facedown. And if you stick strictly to the rules you are supposed to adhere to the timer.

  • @CaitjeBouw

    I have played this game with my friends for the first time tonight, but what we don't get is how do the psychics know if they guessed it right if the ghost can't communicate?
    And if you put two of those tokens at different players and you are right do you get one or two higher lvls?

    • @thediceyreview
      @thediceyreview  8 лет назад +1

      For the token question you get credit for every correct guess either right or wrong. So yes you would go two spaces. For the final gas at the end of the game, the ghost will pick one group that matches most closely the card it has in his hand. For the final guess at the end of the game, The ghost can reveal whether the psychics were correct in their guess or not. You can do this with a knock or a head nod however you have communicated throughout the game.
