Some people have been wondering about the purpose of The Witness, so I thought I'd share something about that here. The Witness is kind of a "free" extra clue in a way. If someone picks The Witness, you eliminate that card from the board AND the players on the witness get to move their piece to another guess right away. So as the ghost, if you can find a good clue between the card you want someone to guess AND the witness card, it might be possible to eliminate 2 cards at once.
This looks like they've ironed all of the clunky/awkward bits of classic mysterium and made a more slick version. Finding all of the matching numbered cards at the beginning of normal mysterium is always such a chore 😂
The new rules make the setup fair easier and quicker. Thanks for this video. Now will buy the game and can play it without any further rules studying! Looking forward to it
I love Mysterium but it's definitely not entry level friendly. I'm so excited to use this as the "ramp-up" for my friends to play the full thing! Great video!
So essentially Mysterium and Codenames lovechild. I like the change that the ghost is pointing at innocents. It always bugged me how in Mysterium everyone has their "own" killer and then only at the end is the "true" one revealed, it just makes no sense thematically. This time it's also not as elegant (if someone chose another innocent it would still make thematic sense to remove it), and I'm not really sure what the point of the "witness" is except for essentially giving a secret extra round within a round, but still, the reversal makes more thematic sense and it's possibly much easier to explain to newcomers.
The way I describe it to folks is that each of the visions players receive relates to true moments that occurred on the day of the ghost's death, but their recollection is a bit fuzzy. The victim remembers being in the kitchen with the seamstress and remembered seeing or discussing a rope. The victim remembers being in the workshop with the driver and seeing or mentioning a frying pan... etc. The ghost doesn't recall which of these memories was actually the memory of their death, they're just things that happened on the day of their death, but eventually, as the psychics attune to their abilities to the nature of this particular ghost, the ghost achieves a moment of clarity and is able to identify which of those moments was the moment of their death.
In the original, I always thought each psychic was piecing together a moment of the ghost's experience, and only once the spirit had sorted out its memories could it identify the one leading to its death.
I have played mysterium before and love it i just bought my own copy yesterday for a Halloween game night now I have to go by this one too when it comes out
I love the streamlining of the game. It feels like the same game, but with less setup, smaller table footprint and quicker play. I will still keep my original Mysterium, but this would be a lovely version for quicker games and traveling.
This is really interesting, a new twist to a very good concept. Our gaming group enjoys playing Mysterium a lot, so this will definitely be added to our collection asap. Thank you for yet another great video tutorial.

I like that it kind of "reverses" the idea of Mysterium in how you're not looking for what happened exactly, but rather eliminating possibilities, until you're left with one choice to (hopefully) finally reveal the truth. Paired with the smaller box and slightly simpler mechanics, it's a perfect creative game to take to a party or game night with you. That being said, while the game suggests you can play with two players, we found that doesn't really make for an experience, so I personally recommend playing it with no less than four players, better more. We found the same true for the original Mysterium game.
I always wanted Mysterium but felt like it was too much to play with my family and friends. I feel that this is a better fit and I like the look and gameplay of this game better. Played the original Mysterium and didn’t really enjoy it as much as I thought we would. We may give this version a chance, as I think the streamlined nature of it might work better for our group....
The one problem I ever had with Mysterium was the long setup and the difficulty in explaining it to beginners who wanted to play the ghost. This game solves both those problems!
Mysterium has always felt like it was the combination of clue and codenames: pictures, Mysterium park seems like it is following along the codename family business. One thing I really wanted to see with this game is extra small cards that would fit in the Mysterium player screen that would allow Mysterium park to work as an expansion. Although it does make me happy that Mysterium cards can work in Mysterium park.
Finally giving this one a try after receiving it as a gift last year - took one look at the rules and thought, nope, far too wordy, there must be a simpler way. Came directly here and was not disappointed. Being a big fan of Mysterium but always feeling it was slightly too clunky with the end game mechanic and the semi-co-op nature, this looks to be a big improvement while steering very close to the vibe of the original that I enjoy, although I do miss the little ravens!
This is definitely a more streamlined version of Mysterium, which is great, although I do have a few problems with it. 1) The ghost screen was by far my favourite component in the original game. I'd miss it terribly were I to play as the ghost in this one. 2) I'm not sure what the witness token is here for, doesn't seem like a necessary addition. I mean, what's the point of marking a specific spot as a witness spot if everyone gets a chance to rearrange their pawns anyway? 3) There's potentially more downtime (assuming downtime is even an issue in a full cooperative game), because the players who get it right on the first try don't get a new card to guess, they just sit back and "help the others". I hate when games do that. The original Mysterium did a better job at keeping everyone around the table busy at all times. Thank you for yet another great video Rodney

I have a question about the vision cards! Do you maintain the same set of 7 cards through the whole came or discard and redraw a new 7 cards for each of the 6 turns for phase 1&2? Let’s say I’ve finished the first turn and one of my psychics does not guess correctly and we have to enter into a second turn for them to guess - am I giving them another vision card(s) from the 7 in my hand from the previous turn or do you discard the hand in between each turn and start over with a fresh hand? It just doesn’t make a ton of since to me to not discard between turns because it’s like if I already had an applicable vision card in my hand I would have used it on them in the previous round.

Do you think another phase can be added to include the weapon of the murder (or the motive, for those who own the expansion)? Also, the game looks harder than Mysterium in low player counts: 9 suspects and very few visions. Thoughts on that?
You could probably just leave out the cards belonging to the other player colors. So with only 1 psychic, you would have only 5 cards to choose from in the first two rounds. 3 possible guilty, the witness, and the players goal card.
Hi I have a question. At 11:05 you say that the turn marker stays where it is after Round 1, when moving to the round where the location is to be guessed. However the rulebook seems to suggest that you DO have to move the marker: - If all Psychics have found their cards, move to Round #2 and start a new turn. Move the Game Turn Marker one space forward.
Hey Dave, this is a tricky one. I shot this long enough ago that I don't recall why I have this worded differently. Sometimes when making these videos I catch errors, or am notified of errors in the rulebook, and then we shoot the video correctly with the adjustment. We also worked directly with the publisher on this video, and they checked it over before it was released, so I'm as confident as I can be that the way we have it here is correct. But if something is confirmed otherwise, I'd want to hear it!

OH! Clarifying question, there are some plot cards that have Roman numerals in different columns. Should the ghost interpret that as suspect first and location second?
No, that's just so that however you flip the card around (up or down), the numeral is in the same place :) Always look for where it is at the top of the card. Hope that helps!
So rather than just being Clue and Dixit, it's now Clue, Dixit and Codenames. Except now it actually makes sense that the ghost is trying to lead players to the killer from the start, rather than the ghost just miraculously losing its amnesia in the final round.
In the original game, the ghost player had smaller cards to study to avoid staring too much at the cards the players looked at. I wonder if the ghost will look too much at the cards while preparing which vision cards to give to each player. The ghost player will have to be pretty crafty. :) There are no weapon cards so this does seems like a shorter version, and a bit more streamlined. I think my daughters and I would like it. :)

I avoid trying to assess replayability (what's replayable for one person, might not be replayable for someone else). I imagine you'd have no trouble using Dixit cards if you wanted.
Thanks for another great video Rodney. My kids love playing our house rules version of Mysterium (removed convoluted voting etc). I really like the changes that have been made to the mechanics. This one will be perfect for my family straight out of the box.

I realize the answer before i ask, but are these cards compatible with Mysterium? Id even be ok if there were an extra pack to buy the ghost's cards. The other way around i do see it working, but unless i can use this game as an expansion i have no reason to look at this box a second time.
Unfortunately, there isn't an official answer for this, but discarding face up could give the players additional information, so it would make sense to discard them face down. I hope that helps.
Cool Mysterium with easier set up. So bad that the cards have different picture in the back. I would like to connect cards from Mysterium and Mysterium Park.
I would LOVE if they released these cards for original Mysterium including the mini cards and numbers to go behind the screen. I’m not interested in buying a game that is 99% the same as Mysterium, but I am always eagerly awaiting more cards for the original as its it by far my family’s most played and enjoyed game.
@@ZombieRat8bit I do indeed have them all and would eagerly buy more. Mysterium is the most played game in my house by a good margin as it can be played by such a wide range of ages and skills, by people who have never played a modern board game, by people who live and breath them.
On first play, as the ghost, I found it difficult to study the cards in order to present visions without giving away what I was looking at. Has anyone come up with a good solution for this? Could just be me too...
You may find it helpful to shield your eyes while playing, but also, the other players should not be studying you closely while you're examining the cards. I also make a point of looking at every card, even the ones that aren't mind, just to be extra sneaky about it.
How did I miss this game coming out? I love the idea of Mysterium, but the setup and teach are really clunky, and trying to play as the ghost can get awkward having to pick which set to give which player and which set was "the answer". Now, a streamlined version comes along that takes out those problems with the plot cards so you're *whittling away* possibilities instead of trying to steer the players *towards* possible answers making the game tighter, and eliminates the third round making the game shorter, AND IT'S SET IN A CARNIVAL! I've always wanted to be a clown (in whatever capacity I'm capable), so games in this setting always get bonus points off the bat.

Also, if you have Mysterium, you can simply add another phase in which you use the weapons! I'll do it today in a class! :)

Amazing review as always! The only think I didn't understand was the meaning of the witness
The Witness is kind of a "free" extra clue in a way. If someone picks The Witness, you eliminate that card from the board AND the players on the witness get to move their piece to another guess right away. So as the ghost if you can find a good clue between the card you want someone to guess AND the witness card, it might be possible to eliminate 2 cards at once.

Are the vision cards all new for Mysterium Park or are they the same as in original Mysterium (+/- the expansions) ?
I haven't played the expansion for Mysterium, but I am 99.99999% confident that these are all new.
Does this game suffer in replayability? Is it possible to maybe use Dixit cards with it if we find ourselves starting to repeate previous clues?
I avoid trying to assess replayability (what's replayable for one person, might not be replayable for someone else). I imagine you'd have no trouble using Dixit cards if you wanted.
Can places and killers be used as an expansion of the original Mesterium game or vice versa?
I've never looked into that, so I'm not sure.

Thanks for another great video Rodney. My kids love playing our house rules version of Mysterium (removed convoluted voting etc). I really like the changes that have been made to the mechanics. This one will be perfect for my family straight out of the box.

I realize the answer before i ask, but are these cards compatible with Mysterium? Id even be ok if there were an extra pack to buy the ghost's cards. The other way around i do see it working, but unless i can use this game as an expansion i have no reason to look at this box a second time.
These cards can be combined with the core box, if that's your interest.
Did you reuse any of the vision card art work from the original game for this version?
I haven't gone through all the Mysterium cards in awhile, but going by memory, this all seemed like new art.

Is the discard pile open or closed?
Unfortunately, there isn't an official answer for this, but discarding face up could give the players additional information, so it would make sense to discard them face down. I hope that helps.
Cool Mysterium with easier set up. So bad that the cards have different picture in the back. I would like to connect cards from Mysterium and Mysterium Park.
You still could - the card backs don't really change the game and this way you'll be able to separate it out easier :)
I would LOVE if they released these cards for original Mysterium including the mini cards and numbers to go behind the screen. I’m not interested in buying a game that is 99% the same as Mysterium, but I am always eagerly awaiting more cards for the original as its it by far my family’s most played and enjoyed game.

@@ZombieRat8bit I do indeed have them all and would eagerly buy more. Mysterium is the most played game in my house by a good margin as it can be played by such a wide range of ages and skills, by people who have never played a modern board game, by people who live and breath them.

On first play, as the ghost, I found it difficult to study the cards in order to present visions without giving away what I was looking at. Has anyone come up with a good solution for this? Could just be me too...
You may find it helpful to shield your eyes while playing, but also, the other players should not be studying you closely while you're examining the cards. I also make a point of looking at every card, even the ones that aren't mind, just to be extra sneaky about it.
I've played the original a lot and enjoyed it but I'm interested in trying out this new streamlined version. 🗡🤡🔮

How did I miss this game coming out? I love the idea of Mysterium, but the setup and teach are really clunky, and trying to play as the ghost can get awkward having to pick which set to give which player and which set was "the answer". Now, a streamlined version comes along that takes out those problems with the plot cards so you're *whittling away* possibilities instead of trying to steer the players *towards* possible answers making the game tighter, and eliminates the third round making the game shorter, AND IT'S SET IN A CARNIVAL! I've always wanted to be a clown (in whatever capacity I'm capable), so games in this setting always get bonus points off the bat.
