Yeah but acid reflux isn't attributed to meat being acidic. If anything meat would tend to heal that thanks to zinc and B12. It has more to do with potential osteoporosis which takes time to settle in if ever it does.

its one of the things the archeologists look at to determine diet of the ancients. there are graves in the Balkan region which have a mix of the Proto-Europeans, who were primarily carnivore, and the original European inhabitants that were primarily plant based. they can tell who is who because the P-E were typically larger and had better bone density. The unhealthy “acidity” derives from industrial processed carbohydrates
But yes, meat are acidic to, BUT this acidity helps your stomach process the meat, so you’ll absorb all the nutrients
Way to many people have very low stomach acid, which leads to a whole lot of other conditions in your whole body, incl. leaky gut syndrome, which again leads to autoimmune health issues.

deboraazharra4934, pH of beef is approx 5.65. Fruits and veggies are way more acidic, apples being 3.65. I don't know of a food that humans eat off hand that are either neutral (7.0) or alkaline. I agree, humans need to eat slightly acidic foods to help in the digestive process in the stomach. Ingesting sodium bi-carb would just mess up the natural pH of our stomach of 1.5 to 3.

It's neither low or high stomach acid that's the cause of heart burn. I had heartburn even when I ate betaine hcl. The cause of GERD is carbohydrates fermenting in intestines. Fermentaion produces gas. It can either go up or down. If it goes up it creates a bubble from the acid stomach and that gas bubble pushes up to the esophagus. There are 2 tactics people use to avoid that:
      1) they decrease stomach acid by taking antacids => there are no more bubbles of acid, just gas but the problem is still there and absorption of nutrients is impeded
      2) they increase stomach acid by taking betaine hcl => increase of stomach acid causes esophageal sphinster to close because it "thinks" it's meal time. The result of this is that the rising pressure from the intestines has to go somewhere and hopefully it will result in a fart
Another name for bacterial fermentation is SIBO.
The real solution is stopping carbohydrates, fermentation stops within a couple of weeks.

Regarding Leena's question, I am unable to "just listen to my body" and lose weight. If I just obey my hunger and eat as much just beef as I want I will gain weight, especially if I eat multiple times a day. Perhaps she is similar. I have had to resort to actual fasting (36-47 hour fasts) and not just time-restricted eating (OMAD) to get results that I want. If I can find it in myself, I plan on doing 72 hour fasts twice a month. However from the research I have done, 72 hrs should be the maximum for fasts as longer fasts can actually slow down your metabolism as Dr. Chaffee stated. I don't believe Dr. Chaffee has ever actually been fat, so with all due respect, I believe he lacks experience and perspective in this regard.

Lemons are acidic but aren’t acid-producing in the body-by the time they hit the kidneys, they’ll contribute to lowering the pH of your urine. This is why baking soda and lemon juice are often used in homeopathic/natural medicine to help kill pathogenic levels of bacteria (UTI) in the kidneys. Works in about 30-45 minutes to eliminate the pain from a UTI.
Dr. Chaffee is just wrong on this, sorry. Meat isn’t bad, but it’s just unquestionable that some foods are acid producing in the body, and some work to lower acid. Not in the blood, bc your body controls that pH very tightly.

Carb burning produces at least 66% more ROS and acidity than burning fat because it is inherently more dirty burning as a fuel. And that's the best case where it cleans up properly after itself, which it often does not. This is part of the reason a high carb diet is so catabolic. Bicarbonate supplementation can take some pressure off your kidneys but it is not absolutely necessary on any diet, and much less necessary on a diet low in carbs!

Regarding fasting, a bit of in-depth information that was lacking here.
No, the main benefit of fasting is not that you do not consume poison like oxalates.
And no, fasting does not cause any jojo effect; eating a caloric deficit does, fasting per se does not. In cases of severe overweight, people have fasted 300+ days without any signs of a reduced metabolism whatsoever. As long as you keep your electrolytes in check and have sufficient body fat, you can theoretically water fast indefinitely.
Dry fasting is even more potent, however dry fasting should for safety reasons not be done in high heat or for periods longer than 5-7 days (3 days max for beginners).
Firstly, eating carnivore is a form of ketogenic diet; it puts your metabolism into ketosis, so burning fat.
Fasting on the other hand is a repair state. The body shuts down energy for digestion and increases autophagy & growth hormone output significantly, even compared to ketosis. 1-2 times per year a 5-7 day fast is recommended, as the deep autophagy reduces chances for alzheimer, parkinsons & cancer. It's good for the immune system as well and the growth hormone makes it easier to put on muscles too.
Secondly, it's neither a new invention nor unnatural. Just as our ancestors lived by hunting, the fasted between hunts when there was no prey available. Even for the mongols, it was normal to go 2-3 days without any food between meals!
It is therefore of no surprise that any religion whatsoever has some way to teach about fasting. For medicinal reasons, once or twice a year fasting 5-7 days is enough.

I would advise people who are no longer progressing on the carnivore diet to do research on this subject, acid-base balance. I was a carnivore for more than 6 months, before rather the ketogenic diet. and it’s true that I never heard of that when I was only in the carnivorous sphere. The answer to Dr. Chaffee's very specific question here is correct. Doubts expressed about acidity in the body arise from the fact that particularly animal proteins, metabolized by human cells, leave an acidic residue. proteins are therefore part of the elements which contribute to the increase in acidity, and there are elements on the contrary which contribute to the alkalinity of the human body. the body will always do the job of keeping the right ph, different depending on the part of the body but health comes from the balance between the sum of alkalizing and acidifying elements. those who need it, who have not experienced the miracle of the carnivore diet, look at this track, otherwise don't change anything.
