@Nice Brain It's the difference between _knowing_ that fact and _feeling_ it. We aren't really mentally wired for anonymity in that way. Having a piece critiqued in front of your peers can be extremely uncomfortable, like you've been stripped naked and everyone is poking and examining your every inch. While the artists in this case do have the separation of the Internet to insulate them somewhat, our ape brains can only conceptualize that intellectually; it still _feels_ like you're being hauled in front of the class to be peeled and scrutinized like a dissected frog.
@@nicebrain6962 it's scary to post something that took you potentially 10 or 20 hours to make online knowing someone will critique your paint job and point out all your mistakes.

This video is amazing. It really goes to show the difference between what an amateur (myself) sees in a miniature and what a way more experienced person sees. There were several models where I thought "hey that looks pretty dang good!" and once you started explaining the criticisms I was actually able to pick it out with my own eyes and understand more of what was going on during the painting process. You see things that I would have never picked up on. Great video, I learned a lot!
I think it's kind of funny how much your helpful suggestions sound like the advice I heard in the aquarell class I took. 1) Never use the pur colours you bought. Always mix. 2) Shadows and highlights are a different colour than your base. 3) look out for your focus point. What's your composition? 4) where does the light come from and what does it touch. I like that minis and pictures are from a working perspective so similar. I think beginner's could learn also a lot from looking at other art. Some big portraits in oil for example. I know, I picked up a lot from going to a museum. Even Bob Ross thought me a thing or two. Thanks for the video. I think, I will try something with clothe next. You sparked some ideas in my brain. 😊

I think their style is good at showing you what you’re going to get when you buy a miniature - it’s probably the right choice for that particular application.
I have to agree with Chaw about the helpfulness of photoshopping the changes. Explaining things and showing them are two different things. Submissions (including anywhere minis are judged) makes it very hard to do so with a black background. Not for judging is fine as it can really give atmosphere to the figure. Otherwise dark figures blend into the background and cannot therefore be accurately judged. It makes me wonder what is trying to be hidden by it. In this case I always knock off a point.

Oh yeah...this video took like 3 days just to edit :D
I really appreciate some good criticism. This video is fantastic for that.
These critiques are super helpful. I'm glad you give real criticism, like an art teacher.
Love the honest feedback.
The help you do on PS is phenominal, thank you!
Great video! Now I will rank my progress based on this video, applying the hints you gave step by step
I love critiquing videos, they're very informative and helpful.
this is an absolutely magnificent video, thank you! The photoshop parts are amazingly helpful. Your direct advice and polite criticism is also superb.
Great models all and a helpful video of critique. Happy modelling!
Another great video, your content /critique has been molding itself into a mental handbook for me.
My god, so much good advice. Especially the PS sections!
when you started painting the images it became perfectly clear how i can improve!! thank you!
this was actually full of useful info - subbed
I have to agree with Chaw about the helpfulness of photoshopping the changes. Explaining things and showing them are two different things. Submissions (including anywhere minis are judged) makes it very hard to do so with a black background. Not for judging is fine as it can really give atmosphere to the figure. Otherwise dark figures blend into the background and cannot therefore be accurately judged. It makes me wonder what is trying to be hidden by it. In this case I always knock off a point.
Wow Trov, great video! This is like, some kind of high budget Vince Venturella production.
I would pay to see that
Really enjoyed your honest feedback here
This is just great!!! Goals you can actually make and NO WASHES!!! or a bare minimum. Great advice and great humor... as always

Another great video. The Photoshop editing was awesome, it's so cool to see how we shouldn't be scared of adding contrast and pushing it higher
