Realistically, there is no stopping tsunamis.
Even the smaller ones carry billions of tons of water.
They are basically invisible usually out on the sea and then they press up on the continental shelf.
THAT is when you get the wall of water rolling in towards the coast. And then it only gets worse and the wall of water gets higher because there is less and less space for the sheer volume of water left.
And as it is not a wave per se, it never breaks and goes down in cresting height either.
A tsunami is not a wave. get that out of your head. A Tsunami is a flood happening very very fast.
You should download more planes
Biffa Plays Indie Games u should build an Observatory on the mountain and have a tram line going up and down to it also put a couple of shops houses and some parks up there with the Observatory. I just thought it was a good idea hope u like it.
You forgot to evacuate your people to emergency shelters.
Create a district for the Tsunami wall and call it "YOU SHALL NOT PASSSSSS!"
:-)
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines :-)
To help the water pumps in the canal, I believe there is something under the water tab that will release extra water that is being pumped into the system, so theoretically you can have those pumps continuously pumping, even when your city doesn't need the water and just have it outlet somewhere else
Thanks :-)
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines i run the canal pumps on their own set of pipes with the excess outlet installed on them
you want a wider canal and set it back slightly as the swell goes straight over the top of the wall and the canal , you need to force it into the canal not go over the top of it
I know I'm a few years late, but my solution for a tsunami was to terraform the coastline to have wave breaking spikes (narrow, rather high hills, with an oblong or triangular base), a dam behind those, and wide canals on both sides of the dam.
The blue color on the evacuation map means that the pralle have left their house and are ON THE WAY to a shelter.
:-)
Dangerous Dan now drives the train...xD
Without fresh water drains you cant pump more water than you use..... so the pumps probably arent pumping at full capacity
Of I've kg JFK I ugh JFK kick dock FDIC king NFL cm kg for if I go go of big I of I ugh JFK big I of I go high boron girl of girl font kbit kg kg I go go
@@faizalaziz6671 Is there an English translation to what you are saying?
Build a trench in front of it all. But build a tiny wall in front of just big enough to keep regular water out. But not to tall that way it doesn't look ugly. Kinda like Spike vipers no pause challenge. Just without the massive ugly wall:-)
Only thing that works well are slightly mountainous barrier islands out at sea
Your map has some already; but they are oriented wrong vs the direction of the waves, + they are not tall enough. Some varying height small islands oriented "against the grain" with the direction of the wave, will break it up and greatly reduce or eliminate it before it hits the city.
hey Biffa i read that if you put your shelters closer to your farms they will get supplied with food.
Nah they are bugged at the moment :-)
Biffa I lov your vids! Also the reason people were not Evacuating is because it takes TIME to Evacuate, usually 2-4 minuets
You can build freshwater outlets! This way you can drain directly into the ocean. But you need a part of ocean that's not being hit by a tsumini of course, or an inland lake
:-)
dropping into an inland lake would be pretty cool and ibelive is used in real life as well
Nicolas Blume wouldn’t that create another tsunami cause the lake overflow? That has happend to me
it is nice place haha. it is flat land with no mountains behind as block, so you just meet one wave shock quickly passing by the buildings before people abandon it. And pumping trucks can work to clear the street water.
so please dont build more Blocks, but you can build lower canal to help the water flow out quickly after tsunami wave.
Dutchmen like me are really good at this in real life😂
I speak Spanish and I do not understand the video but I like it, at the moment I am using the translator but I am already subscribed to your channel
greetings from Argentina
The Best Way To Stop The Tsunami Needs:
Water Pump x3
Wall x3
Canal x3
Tree x3
18:50, there's a couple probable reasons people aren't evacuated. Make sure that there is radio coverage there (I don't remember if you put a radio tower there yet). If there's no radio coverage then people won't know that they should be evacuating. Another reason could be that you just didn't give them enough time to evacuate. It takes people a little while to actually get into the shelters so I would move your tsunami warning buoys further offshore to give yourself more warning time.
I agree with the idea of the second wall, but I think it would be nice to use the deep wide canal, AND have another deep wide canal behind the second wall, but not have a third wall, so that any water that manages to pass through that can drain back to the canal. And maybe have some pumps BEFORE the first wall, and see if that does anything.
Biffa I love those fallowing cars and close up clips of the city, I hope you do more of them since I would really love to see this beautiful city from ground level!
Thanks :-)
You need to build breakwalls in the harbour, the Japanese built a few outside before the tsunami in 2011, it knocked down the height and speed dramatically.
Do you need Radio towers to alert citizens to evacuation in disasters, and do you need bus routes to travel the city to pick up evacuees?
Why not change roads leading up to roundabouts, to not allow parking?
Indeed :-)
A tsunami! Quick, everyone to the underground shelter! Ummmmm...
I wonder if you could set the sea wall and canal with the parallel road tool.
You can 👍
Great episode! What about putting ‘islands’ of tsunami walls out in the sea to break up the force of the water as one wall? Also looking lowering the seabed level around the city point so it takes more water to reach the top of the walls? Looking forward to your surprise.....
IDK if this is a modded asset yet, but for places with mountains/hills, they could have hang gliding recreation places, and for beaches boat pulled parasailing and water skiing. Maybe even hot air balloon rides like they have at the Albuquerque New Mexico Hot Air Balloon Fiesta.
You can make a tall wall by creating a quay and then moving it up with Move It!.
Brilliant episode as usual
The section of water between the point of Tsunami Point itself and the island across from it is too shallow allowing the tsunami to gain enough time to gain height to overwhelm the city’s flood defenses. Or raising the shallow part between the islands where the rail and highway runs above the water to force the wave to break before its reaches the city.
When using zones, sometimes only people living in the area can get tin the shelter and visitors to the area cant . There is a policy that restricts shelters to the zone make sure it isn't set that way . If it isn't switch it on and off.
It isn't, but thanks 👍😀
You should dig out that farm area to act as a massive dip, it should contain more water however you can still build down there but things that you wouldn’t mind sacrificing if they were flooded, love the episode biffa! Ps it would be like a mini Eden project
Build a ditch behind the 2nd wall (do deep, holds more water)
Hi biffa, hummm may look a bit to messy with all the canals and walls, why not build up a nice smooth hill around where the tsunamis hit. Coud make a nice view point and a beautiful park with the Park life DLC. Hope you had a nice day, I did now I've got a good cuppa and a new skylines episode!
i think there are bigger with greater sucking power water pumps to download. but make sure that you are just not raising the pressure of the water in the pipes and put down water outlets
A seewall as they hav in many ports and beaches, just a shallow Ground wall a bit out from the beach
You could try to set a series of walls in the far islands, kind of using the Islands+walls as breakwaters and have like a perimeter wall far into the sea
Put a set of walls or dams out at sea to disrupt tsunamis
Come on Biffa, you should go nuts sometimes
:-)
GOOD EVENING ASIA 😀😀💜💜
What if.... There was a giant squid that just sucked up the whole tsunami? That should work.
Lol :-)
And in case of an invasion it doubles as coastal defences!
Advice: place the wall before tsunami comes if not the waters will be stuck
You need more water pumps so they can handle the water
How about an offshore airport, like the one in hongkong, that'll be pretty cool
when there is not a tsunami coming turn of the pumps so you dont waste money
11:40 looks like D-day normandy xD
Well it actually seems a reasonably effective defence system. Not just because the canals can contain the water and the walls raise the height that a wave would need to have to get over.. But I think the combination of the two helps to break the forward inertia of the wave. And I don't think it matters that much that the pumps can't pump the water away fast enough (and I didn't really expect that to work anyway).. But because it's a canal, the trucks wouldn't remove the water because the game considers it normal for those canals to contain water.. But what the pumps will do is empty the canal for the next tsunami.. I wonder if it's possible to really break a tsunami this way (in real life i mean) if you'd make the walls slightly higher and the canals (using multiple walls and canals probably) slightly wider.. Perhaps with an underground space for the water..
Put a secondary canal behind the secondary flood wall.
It's the day after tomorrow.... When's the snow storm???
More water pumps in the tsunami point canal
Just a thought about your stadium area. There is a quite nice stadium with a station built into it. Perhaps it might be worthwhile taking a look at that for a project
The Tsunami protection is doing fine. You can make a second wall but then you need a second canal for the Water who goes back. Or you can make a second canal behind the canal.
At the end of this Serie you will have a city like Venice. 😜
No more houses, just walls! Lol :-)
That’s a good one, lol. Or you can build Dams instead of Walls. In that way you make more power. I know it’s impossible but I think that’s a funny idea.
I gotta do all this with 200,000 in the bank and 20,000 people 😂 WITH A 6.7!
In the future you should do a dip and then a wall that way it's scrubs more energy off from the tsunami
Hey Biffa I got sick so I get to watch your video than go back to sleep with my mom and Dogs. Hope you have a great day.
Feel better soon :-)
Use antenas to brodcast. It will make more people evacuate.
Love your vids so I subscribed
Thank you Chris Adams :-)
This flat land with natural resources needs to become an artificial lake. I can't think of anything else that isn't hyper artificial.
Hi Biffa 💜💜💜
You should make the wall higher
oh so Biffa wants to battle the next match is with my city Westfield 25:18
biffa... the buildings got evacuated leaving all the people from those buildings in the street trying to get to the shelters is why the buildings were empty the the streets were flooded by people and water.
Chevron shaped islands to divert before hitting the main coast?
NOW THAT TSUNAMI DEFENSE IS ABSURDLY NOT ACCURATE
2:37 Closed Captions are a bit suspicious
Perhaps you could use the terrain tool or the movement mod to make a wall using terrain, buildings or walls etc.
I think that you do need another wall, and do raise the ground a little bit. It seems that the point gets hit worst, so just build lines of walls there, the flanks are ok
Just a thought make an ultra protected area with layers of flood wall and canals with water pumps and it has its own power are water systems (near a water source lake) and huge shelters so after your "destroy the city" finale you can recover with that small town
mistake you made was you did not have any extending branches leading away from the impact zone and into the city to bring the water wave height down and break the wave up
Always wear protection
Can you dredge the ocean floor to redirect some of the water energy away from tsunami point?
I get the feeling you need a new waterfront with two wall and a deep, wide canal
I think you need bus routes for the shelters
biffa try a offshore breakwater should help defuse the tsunami before it hits
:-)
☕️+🍪 today 😁
Indeed :-)
I've created walls 10x higher than your and still goes over it. I don't think there's a good way of preventing this disaster.
Instead od building walls, just raise the land height
Seems like you didn't evacuate the people quick enough, there only that much evacuation bus and you also reduce the tram count and bus found quite a bit, people now are waiting forever to get to the shelter, add more shelter or public transport
You should put a wall and another canal behind the first canal
What if you replaced the parks near the wall with like a giant hole or sinkhole that could soak up the water
Behind the Second wall you could Build an other canal
What about a second canal behind the second wall?
Think you should leave the canal as is & build a wall next to the city & let water flow into the farm land, good luck 👍
Using the terraforming mod you could create a massive trench in front of the sea wall
Get bus routes for the shelters
What is that lightning in game. It is beautiful.
Anarchy a canal under the wall
Biffa in your last episode you said you only flew once and in one airport. So the plane had an emergency and landed back at the origin, but then why did you fly in the first place? Or did you live in another city and fly one way to you new home? How does this work?
It works if you don't pick me up on an obvious verbal mistake...
I think extending that second wall, adding outflow pumps, and lowering as much land before the walls as possible should reduce the damage.
Looking forward to your announcement!
U failed because the physics of the water in this game is veeeery strange
would building a breaker out in the water help?
It looks a bit to me like it's very hard to challenge the power of the tsunami head-on - it doesn't seem to help much. It seems like it does a little bit of redirection however. Often the back of the city has been saved in parts also because of redirection.
So perhaps, building with the primary focus on redirection rather than outright stopping may be a better basic premise. I must admit, however, I am not altogether certain how to achieve this.
On top of that there may be that there are areas in the map, maybe a rather large area, that simply will get severely flooded, and even though it may be tempting to develop there it would be inevitably disastrous to do so. This wouldn't be giving up, but rather surrendering to fact in order to save countless cim lives.
Perhaps those areas could be national parks when Park Life arrives, with tours and similar, which could be temporarily canceled manually while there are tsunamis and disaster warnings.
Second wall is good.
:-)
What's your color correction?
u need buses to airport and back
Do something unusual like that double dam you did or similar!
:-)
Did you ever solve this?
dont do anything and then fix it later that would be more realistic
i have a name for a ferry on tsunami point: Daredevils Ferry Route
MORE PUMPS!!! Great video dude, and I'm glad that you (at least sort of) listened to my comment, it means a lot! :-)
my city keeps getting hit by 8.3 tsunamis everytime one ends and im beginning to wonder if its a bug
