This is great! The only video I’ve found that doesn’t require you to completely disassemble the generator to get to the carburetor. Saved me tons of time. This guy knows what he is doing.
@xMoKaManX that depends on how bad it's gummed up and what you got at your disposal. If you've got an ultrasonic cleaner might as well use it. If you don't then just make sure that you rod everything out real good and you're getting carb cleaner through all the passageways that need to be open.
The trick for pulling the posts was great. Makes removing the carb Much Easier. Followed his steps, my genny started on first pull! Hadn’t started in over a year Thank you for posting 👍
Nice work brother. thumbs up. the q tip polish in the needle port was a nice touch. the only picky part i could find was you didn't snug slight twist the fuel bowel to you feel a natural solid seat on the gasket Hold in place with slight hand grip and bring the bolt up to grip before releasing the hand pressure before tightening Heheh. nothing worse then a leaky fuel bowel after assembly. Great job brother
Thanks for the video. My 20 year old 1000 wouldn't start, and watching this video helped me out. My carburetor pulled straight out to the side, so I didn't have to remove the studs. The needle valve was stuck, and after cleaning everything, it started right up and idles like new.
If you Yammy is just surging it most likely is the pilot jet. That is the only thing you need to replace. Once you have the carburetor free, do not disconnect anything from the carburetor except the 2 long phillips head screws that hold the top on. Do not diconnect the fuel line or choke cable, no need. With the carb free just swing the spring loaded arm to the side and take out the jet retainer that holds the pilot jet in place using a phillips screw driver. It can be difficult to clean if cloged for long. Pilot jet part number replacement is 7cu-e4142-37-ao can be ordered online. Very easy to replace.
Exactly what I was looking for. I appreciate this wasn’t one of those “let’s learn together” videos where the person really has no idea what they’re getting into. Cheers and thanks.
Right! I also forgot to talk about the weather, how my life is, and evening else except for what the title of the video was. :) Thanks for the comment. Have an amazing week. :)
The audio was a little low in the beginning, but I got the picture! Because there was too much involved for my ability to clean it, I decided to replace it instead. Your video showed me in perfect clarity the steps I needed to safely remove the carburetor and put it back in. My Predator 2000 sat for over a year without any stabilizer and ended up surging/hunting and I knew I had a problem. In less than two hours, it was sounding like new all over again. The best highlight I got from this was the locking of the nuts together to remove the carb bolts. Excellent, and thank you for a great video. Too bad I can't post the pics I took along the way.
You are a legit hero! Working on my neighbors predator 2000, I knew there was a way to get the carb off without taking the whole thing apart. So glad I found your double nut trick!!!
Thank you! My low hour ef2000is is running like garbage unless i keep full choke on. While this was more than i expected to get a carb off and clean it i appreciate the video. I'll probably be trying this sometime this weekend so i can hopefully run my AC unit offgrid in a couple weeks while i get my solar power system setup.
alright, you made that look easy. I just tried.... the outside stud came out no problem with the jam nut solution... the inside one is still there and wouldn't move after an hour of expletives!! Will try again tomorrow night. Thanks for the video very easy to understand and follow. Cheers
@@shananigans1179 Thanks for the reply. As my head hit the pillow last night I was thinking the same thing. I removed the air box to give me more room. It was only 2 bolts and I would recommend it to anyone else. Cheers
This was really helpful. I didn't disconnect choke cable or remove smart throttle, just pulled it off, drained and remove bowl and then flipped carb over to clean jets and float. Worked like a charm!
Thank you so much for this vid! I had stripped the bottom two bolts preventing me from removing the entire case then the carb. But thanks to your awesome vid carb removal is so easy! Thank you again!
Great video! I got both of my EF2000iS generators running again. I have older model gennys and couldn't get the emulsion tubes out but they are running great now anyway. Thanks for the tutorial!
Very GOOD U-TUBE. OUR GENERATOR Started acting up... I watched this Informative clip. I Followed the instructions exactly , final product a beautiful running generator This clip saved my bacon..... A great Big Thank you.....
I'm a mechanic. Both of mine's studs were loctited to the death, so I had to take it apart to slip the carb out. Then I had to use visegrips + a lot of strenght to take out the studs.( they were scratched , but re-usable after filing them clean ) You bet I anti-seized the threads upon re-install ! I have no idea why Yamaha chose to jam those tight... There 's no need to take off the step motor as the pilot jet is accessible from atop. Then with the bowl out, all jets/passages are easily accessible for cleaning (wire strand and carb cleaner (nozzled) are ok, compressor helps (even an inflator works). I chose to remove the pilot screw plug on mine, it is 5mm thick and a pita to get out (my drill hit the screw head - only slightly but bottomed it at ZETO turn out.....so I had no iidea what the factory setting was... In the end I adjusted it 2- 3/4 turns out as recommended for previous models, and the plug now looks just fine. Thanks for the video.Mine is brand new but seeing it convinced me I had to have a look at this messy arrangement - Honda's 2000/ 2200 are much simpler to work on - but getting the studs out is the solution, hey ! So this carb can be cleaned in less than one hour - but draining it when needed and using top fuel + addditive will save a bunch of time & hassle. I don't even plan to ever have to open it again. Nice job Shananigans !
Thanks for the comment. The only reason I took the motor is off was to run the carb through an ultrasonic cleaner. It's crazy that the studs were in so tight though. I did 2 right in a row and both came out fairly easy. But there have been others that have had super tight studs. I wonder if it has something to do with weather. My summers go up over 100° F. Maybe the heat helped loosen things. Who knows. :)
You, Sir, are a professional. That was obvious long before I read the vid notes. Your instructions are very clear even without sound. Sorry that part didn't work out. However, I looked into my unit when it first started acting up. I thought "how in the heck do you get in there?" I've been a wrench all my life but I'm smart enough to know when not to tackle something that the part you want to get to is the last one to come out. I sent one of my units back to the dealer under warranty (I thought) to be repaired. OUCH! Still can't understand where the $100 in parts went?! Armed with your instruction I can now get both my units humming again. This ethanol fuel is an absolute crime.
@Shananigans after all this work taking apart twice, I missed looking at the little main jet screw. It was clogged. Started right up. Great video. Thank you.
Tried your method, both of the studs broke off at the engine block. Probably junk now. I should have removed the gas tank and just slid the carb off the studs.
3 years old Happy Birthday!! and still saving us in 2024!! I just put my yammy back together . It was only running with the choke full on, LOL I actually modified i small rubber hose to keep the choke throttle all the way out. Now it runs with the choke off yea!! but now I am surging, rats!! Intresting thing is my pilot (idle) jet doe not seem to have a hole in the bottom, but all the videos show there is on. I even looked with a magnifying glass, curse my old eyes. Oh well here we go again.
I usually use zep brand cleaner or simple green and yes I do rinse then off after. Then I will spray carb cleaner through everything to make sure things are clear. Safety glasses should be worn during this step. :)
What if you force this spray through gasoline intake line, wont it be enough force to open up all if any clogs, assuming I can keet that tiny spray straw air tight
There is an atmospheric vent that would all vent out of. I have in the past drain the ball and then filled it up and let it sit and then drain it again and filled it up again just to kind of break things loose. Usually better off just a tear it apart clean it. :-)
Hi ! Excellent video ! After more than a year of not using it My carburetor leaks a lot of gas I thing between the bowl and the button of the carb .. I saw in your video there is a tinny o-ring , you don’t mention it but do you think that it can be replaced ? Where do you get parts for this carburetor ? Thanks you
Yup… tried to do this and the carburetor screws aren’t coming coming out. I have the two nuts tight against each other. They’re even starting to strip and when I try to loosen it the screw, the nuts just come out together.
That sucks!. I've heard of others that have had the same issue. I do far I haven't ran into that problem. Good luck. I guess you get to disassembled the thing. :(
Coincidentally, today I went to the service department of the Yamaha dealer where I bought the gen, and asked that very question. He said, "about $150." But with the instructions in this video, I am going to do it myself.
Hello, have the indentical generator, won't start, fresh fuel, cleaned air filter, oil clean and at the right level. Some people mention video notes but I don't see them as the volume is heard to hear. I would love to try this myself but can't hear enough on the sound. Great video though.
Yeah. I don't know what's going on with the audio on that video. I tried rendering it two different types two different ways uploaded it three times differently and the volume was all the same. Sounds great on the computer but when you get to the RUclips's it doesn't want to be very loud at all. If you watch it with the closed caption that might help. Also if you just put it on double speed and watch the way I remove the carburetors and go through and clean the Jets that'll give you a great idea as well. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Thanks.
Great job on this tutorial, my 2009 ef2000is does not have the emulsion tube that can be unscrewed out of the carb there is no slot for the flathead screwdriver. Have you seen this before? Is there a way to remove it?
That's what I thought but I wasn't sure, I assume I would use a small flat head to apply pressure to the top of the emulsion tube and push down towards the fuel bowl.
It's stuck in there pretty good tried soaking it in wd40, and I tried flat head resting on top of the emulsion tube, and a punch through the butterfly valve after removing it and gave it a couple good taps with a ballpen hammer with no movement. Any suggestions?
Tried removing posts with the dual reverse nut method, and just stressing out the threads with no post movement. Any suggestions on how to get the post out if the technique used in this video doesn't work?
I've had a few others got me up enjoy that. Try tapping on them if you can or breathing then up with a heat gun. I did 2 of these neck to back the other day and haven't ran into any issues.
This was a while ago and I'm trying to think what tiny spring you're talking about. There's one that goes on the choke cable and then there's the really tiny spring that goes on the little connector between the stepper motor and the throttle plate that takes up the play.
I was so glad I saw this. Unfortunately, your studs pretty much just popped out and mine are locked in to the point that the two nuts have to be so tight against each other that they are distorting the threads on the stud. Even with them that tight against eash other, they move on the stud rather than the stud coming out. Now I feel that it might be easier to just vise grip them out and buy new studs rather than follow another video I saw where the guy takes the entire case apart just to pull the carb off the studs. Any suggestions?
Maybe add a third nut? I didn't have any issues on any of the ones I have had. Try turning the nut that's farthest inside. I guess you could always just replace the studs too. :) Good luck.
@@shananigans1179 The inside stud came out a bit easier. Definatly some kind of thread locking compound on them. The outside one I just put steady force on for a few minutes, then hit the wrench with a hammer. That broke it free. Thanks for the quick reply. It was surging in ECO mode, which I read somewhere was the idle jet. It's running better now.
No. I have on the Honda eu2000 and you have to remove the outer covers. I'm sure these can't be too hard to do though. It's just a bunch of nuts and bolts. :)
@@shananigans1179 do you know what the specs are for the intake and exhaust valve. I tried calling the manufacturer couldn't get any information. The manual says to a valve adjustment at 250 hrs. But it doesn't give you the specs.Just tells you to take it to a Yamaha dealer.
I have several mics. Tried a few. Audio sounded great before I uploaded it. I tried uploading it twice in two different formats. Any other suggestions? :)
@@shananigans1179 You may have to just re-record the audio from your computer before you upload it. Great video, but even with the volume up I couldn't hear you. Even so, it's going to make working on my generator a lot easier.
Great video, however I'm not even close to be mechanically inclined to do it myself... I've been looking everywhere on your channel to see where you are located, if by some miracle you'd be in the westcoast of Florida near me I'd bring that thing over for you to fix it???
Right. That's why I stopped uploading for a min. Audio sounds great before the upload, but no volume after upload. Any help would be great. It:) I fix a lot of things, but audio on the computer isn't one of them. :)
@@shananigans1179 Many don't seem to know there is 2 places to adjust the volumn. One at the bottom of the computer screen at the right of the tool bar. The video also has a volumn adjust. I had no problem listening and use both places to adjust. You did an excellent video and simply showed a shortcut to remove the studs, pretty easy to take more apart to slide carb off studs.
WAIT HOW ARE YOU GETTING THOSE POSTS OUT LIKE THAT!?! I’ve tried what I’m seeing you do but to no avail! It’s such a great trick though! Is your ratchet wrench going to the left?? How is the nut not loosening off? Or are you going to the right? Please help!
@@shananigans1179 that is truly incredible. When I try it just loosens the nut right off. I had to take apart the whole frame-this looks so much easier though!
Why dont you show the part you put away the double nuts to put back again the throttle. Thank you now i am stuck in that part because i can't handle to put those nuts away
Hello! I was wondering if i could get your help! I have a generator with the same motor but is having a surge issue. I have cleaned the pilot jet 2 times aswell as the other 2 jets and all the holes and what not in the carb. It is still doing the same thing after going through and cleaning everything. I even stuck wire through the idle jet and poked it through one of the three holes. I started it up and it is still having the same issue. Do you have any idea what it could be? Fuel Filter seems clean and i shot some carb cleaner in there too. At this point i dont know what else to do. Thank you in Advance!!
Did you try fresh fuel from the pump? Also if an o ring isn't sealing then it could cause a surging as well. If that all checked out you may want to find an ultrasonic cleaner to run the carb through to just make sure something isn't still in there. Good luck. and thanks for watching. Let me know what you find. It may help someone else down the road. :}
@@shananigans1179 thanks for your response! I’m not sure where it would not be sealing. Maybe the air filter to the carb?? Also it’s got fresh gas I filled up about a week ago and it’s being used on a daily/weekly basis. I also put sea foam in gas to make sure everything is good. Thanks.
@@shananigans1179 Thanks
Great job on this tutorial, my 2009 ef2000is does not have the emulsion tube that can be unscrewed out of the carb there is no slot for the flathead screwdriver. Have you seen this before? Is there a way to remove it?
It just pushes out.
That's what I thought but I wasn't sure, I assume I would use a small flat head to apply pressure to the top of the emulsion tube and push down towards the fuel bowl.
That's correct. And if you forget which way it counts it, the longer part sticks through into the carb intaje.
@@shananigans1179
It's stuck in there pretty good tried soaking it in wd40, and I tried flat head resting on top of the emulsion tube, and a punch through the butterfly valve after removing it and gave it a couple good taps with a ballpen hammer with no movement. Any suggestions?
Perfect!
Awww shucks. Thanks.
On the studs.1 threaded part is longer and the other side is shorter on threaded..which side goes towards the motor?
2:20 second in I pull the stud out. Can you look at the image and tell? I didn't remember for sure.
Can you show where the tiny spring goes at the beginning thanks
This was a while ago and I'm trying to think what tiny spring you're talking about. There's one that goes on the choke cable and then there's the really tiny spring that goes on the little connector between the stepper motor and the throttle plate that takes up the play.
@@shananigans1179 between the stepper motor and the throttle plate l can not see where it came from thanks for trying to help

Was this generator not starting before the video? Or was this a general maintenance?
Generator was not running right.
Good to hear and happy to help. :)
Same issue here. I'm afraid i'll strip the threads, break off the stud or break my wrench.
Have you done a valve adjustment on the MZ80 Yamaha engine?
But it doesn't give you the specs.Just tells you to take it to a Yamaha dealer.
.002 in to .004 in on both intake and exhaust.
It can be done by any small engine shop or competent home mechanics.

Great video but get the audio up a little higher. You may have to dub your voice in if you don't have a good microphone.
Aw man, I'm not anywhere close to that. You can totally do it though. :)
@@shananigans1179 Anywhere near the San Francisco Bay area ?
Man I wish. I'm on the other side of the country not by any oceans. :) the scuba diving here isn't nearly as good. :)
I'm in the desert 2 hours north of Laa Vegas.
My twin bro lives by Sacramento. :)
Great video, couldn't hear a thing.
I put 2 nuts on it and jammed them together. Then once they are right on the shaft iloosesd the shaft. :)
I don't understand your problem. Sorry I couldn't help
Thanks!
You're very welcome
I have a ai power yamaha sc2300i 2300 1800 generator is it the same method for a surging generator
It will be the piolet hey on the top of the carb usually yes.
Did you try fresh fuel from the pump? Also if an o ring isn't sealing then it could cause a surging as well. If that all checked out you may want to find an ultrasonic cleaner to run the carb through to just make sure something isn't still in there. Good luck. and thanks for watching. Let me know what you find. It may help someone else down the road. :}
I’m not sure if I know where to find one of those ultrasonic machines. I’m considering either replacing the jet or replacing the whole carb assembly
Will the machine idle at all?
@@shananigans1179 It runs and takes load fine aside from the surging. It’s just annoying to hear it do that and sometimes it takes a few seconds from it surging to power whatever tool I’m using full strength
Do not store this generator with gas in the carb. Drain the carb, and you will have no problem starting it next time you need to use it.
Right!!! Most people don't though. Also with gas going bad as fast as it does you can't wait. :)
I'm sure you know, but I can't hear you speak. Something wrong with the audio.
The video sounded great before I uploaded it. I since learned it might be the file type I rendered the video into. :(

Not yet. :) I haven't worked on one of those for awhile.

How to change because broke the rope where it is lit
It's been awhile since I worked on this. If I remember right you have to split the e case to get to.the bolts that hold that on. This was a customers generator that I fixed and it has been picked up so I can't just go look at it. Wish I could help more.
I called my doctor and asked for an appointment. Can't hear anything
Good. You need to get that checked. It's definitely not my video. :)
Love the name
Thanks!!
To bad no sound.
Move the mic about 10 feet closer.
Lol. Mic was right by me. Sounded great on the computer. Tried rendering it and two or three different formats. It's been so long now I can't remember. It sounds great on the computer I loaded up to RUclips and it doesn't sound great at all. So any other advice I would love to try.

I really don't know what you are asking. I didn't do anything with the recoil assy in this video.
I could not hear what was being said at all .
I know I should have made it a silent picture. :-)
TURN UP THE MIKE.......
What's so crazy is on the computer it sounded just fine uploaded it twice and both times the audio still was garbage on youtube. I've been afraid to upload ever since. :-)
Also I did try two different rendering formats as well. :-)
redue this video to where we can hear yuh. i can hear the tool better than your voice. nonetheless i get the just of how to work on the carb
I tried uploading it several different times in different formats. It sounds great on the computer but when uploaded it is quite. Any advice would be great.
Need to work on your sound, can barely hear you.
Right. I tried upload that several times. On the computer sounded fine and RUclips land the audio didn't work.
Can't hear you.

I hate this generator, there pretty much junk!
They are great when they run. As soon as you have to fix them they are not the best.
TOTALLY BAD IDEA, this is a hack method and it resulted in me stripping one of the carb shafts. The first one came out ok, the 2nd shaft stripped, now I need to send for parts. Please remove this video from RUclips.
Snapped the shaft trying this 😢
