  • The Stone of Scone will return to England for the first time in more than a quarter of century as it journeys to Westminster Abbey to play a role in the coronation of King Charles.
At Edinburgh Castle on Thursday a special ceremony was held to mark the legendary stone - which has become a symbol of Scottish nationhood - starting its journey south.
The procession was led by the Lord Lyon King of Arms - the monarch's representative in Scotland - and attended by First Minister Humza Yousaf in his capacity of Keeper of the Great Seal of Scotland and one of the commissioners for the safeguarding of the regalia.

The Stone of Destiny is an ancient symbol of Scotland's monarchy, used for centuries in the inauguration of its kings. Seen as a sacred object, its earliest origins are now unknown. In 1296, King Edward I of England seized the stone from the Scots, and had it built into a new throne at Westminster. for the people that dont have a clue......

Very true and fair to say. Would also like to point out, as seen in the video above, that the stone is in the pocession of Scotland and the Scottish people. Next Monday it will be used to crown the next king of Scotland - Scotland which is in a union with England, Wales and Nothern Island - after which point it will be returned to Scotland. :) No one needs to worry - Also quite sure that the people who lived during the theft of the stone by King Edward I are no longer stressing or sweating about it.

I agree totally but there seems to be an overuse of bagpipes at various functions in society today, primarily for funerals. Nothing wrong with that, of course, as it's always very moving, but using the pipes has become something of a cliche', I guess. Whenever someone's pet is buried nowadays, out come the bagpipes! Just seems a little ridiculous. Used at weddings, too. Again, nothing wrong with that. As I said, I love listening to the pipes. However, seeing their prevalence everywhere for almost every event today, large or small, seems to lessen the thrill and/or the unique specialness of the pipes.

James ; For selfish reasons, I really wish it wasn't, as evidenced when Americans like Ms Markle & Mrs Simpson have got involved with the Royal Family, as they bring to it dangerously ignorant notions of what our form of Government is. We have, for the most part, a socially cohesive Society whereby diverse groups of different races and religions co-exist together in relative peace with one another, the Coronation will demonstrate this. Ms Markle can keep her American game of "race-baiting" on her side of the Atlantic, as well as the American fixation of mass killings, particularly in schools, which seems to be the real National sport, supported and encouraged by both your main Political Parties. Scotland was never conquered by England. Edward I tried and failed, Edward II failed, the great Edward III lost his first battle, won another then took his wars to France. Not until King James VI of Scotland ascended to the throne of England did the two kingdoms unite. That stone, from Scone Abbey, was stolen by king Edward I and installed under the throne of St. Edward the Confessor as a sign of his domination. In 1950, Scottish students broke into West Minster Abbey and stole the stone back, it ended up in a field in Kent. Eventually in 1996, 700 years after it had been stolen by Edward I, the stone was given back to Scotland.

He played his own "the Stone of Destiny" to get out of the Great Hall, but once in the courtyard he moved to "Wa' Saw the 42" which is a very nice touch to fully represent the Black Watch heritage - but also a little nod to all Scots listening to the tune......
