Making your own footwear must be so rewarding! These boots are beautiful ❤️. I imagine every pair of footwear must fit exactly as you like as well. So lucky you have all the gadgets you need at your disposal in order to make them properly.
You are one gutsy woman! My project at the moment is a whimsical terraced vegetable garden which I made with my son's help using the limbs of two trees we had to fell. It looks whimsical because trees not growing up under a forest canopy have curved branches, so the sides of the paths and beds are curved just like the poles of my tomato trellis.
I think the only reason I'm where I am is that I was too pigheaded to quit. My mother was a teacher and a tiger mom. She put me in my first art show when I was four and had my career planned out for me. She also did art, but our tastes were completely different. I wanted to do classical art in a time when everyone was into abstract art. But the pressure to perform was so intense that I ran away from home. I had become a costumer at the age of 14 and should have gone to NY where I could get a job and an education, but went to LA, where I ended up doing bookkeeping because I couldn't type. I had to work two full time jobs, but did art on my lunch hour in the middle of the night. I finally got back into college and got pregnant the week I got into college. My mother said that I would have plenty of time to do studies when the baby slept, but he had other plans. He slept a TOTAL of four hours a day, two after colic and then catnapped the rest of the 22 hours. He didn't sleep through the night until five. So I kept trying to get through college and do art, but was still frustrated by the lack of teachers. I finally got into an art gallery when I was 40, and we went to a girl's show, where I broke down because the school was classical. My mother kept on my back, claiming over and over that if I was just good enough I would get work as an artist, which never happened. My boss paid for me to go to that school which I did for a short time, but we had to move away. I was not able to do art more than a bit here and there until I was 55. It took four years for me to get good enough to get my mother's voice out of my head. I now can draw anything. I work in Italian macchia, red chalk, pastel, oils, and pencil as well as watercolor. But my love is books, and so I illustrate my own books. I'm now 64 and finally have my career going, even though I still have to work full time as a bookkeeper/accountant to support my family. My son grew up into a wonderful boy and now man who is also creative. Hang in there. It's worth it.
You have a hair oil business...I want to know more..I've been doing my own from your recommendations...but I may want to buy yours...for a more perfect combination....so thrilled for you...

No, not this time, but I have before. This last was a cowboy boot last from Lisa Sorrell with a beautiful curvy vintage shape. I bought it in a narrow width to fit my heel and arch, and built up the ball of the foot with leather and cork.
A "last" is such an interesting word. Never knew that was the English for a "leest", which is the Dutch word for it. I often looked for exact translations and never seemed to find it; could be I was looking in the wrong spots. Mind you, this was way before "Google Translate". LOL ;) When we had dictionaries that weighed KGs, literally! I have M-width shoes due to a "collapsed" foot, aka that means I have flat feet and try and find shoes for those babies! Anyway, in Belgium we have (apparently, who knew until I went to my orthopedist for foot pain) something called "comfort shoes", and they are shoes that come in several widths. You get measured, get insoles, and shoes that literally fit your feet. I was squeezing my big feet into small shoes, my big toe had even gone numb. Anyway, all this just to say, making your own shoes, being able to is such a rewarding and admirable gift to have. I don't think a lot of us have the skill or patience. You often remind me of my gran, mom's side, who birthed 10, raised 8, 4 boys, 4 girls. They are such a tight-knit family and they lived life much like yourself, the little I can see, I mean. Not over the top, but have what you need. My grandma was very hands-on and practical and she sewed her own clothes for everybody. She crocheted, knit, sewed, and I learned my skill-set from her at a young age, believe age 6 to 8 I got the basics and then age 8 I was unstoppable. Those days are such a great memory for me. My gran has long since passed (I am almost 52, my mom is going to be 79 this year). I just love your channel, Katherine, wish you could post more, but family comes first, always. Do what you can, nobody is pressuring you. I just meant I adore your content. I used to have classic length hair, and cut it back to APL in recent years. Feeling a tad sad about it, but I was bunning too tightly and lost a lot of hair (over 70% of my mid-lengths). It's growing back, which is great. Anyway, enough of my rambling. Adore this channel. So I am listening to one of your lovely videos while I putter around the house and I glance up and, lo and behold, you’ve turned into a silhouette of Dolly Madison. Do you and/or your husband work or “play” in historical interpretation or living history? If so, what period(s). I assumed you sold to interpreters because of your corset/stay making. P.S. So you have a studio separate to your house I’m guessing? Your husband is home full time? You are very inspiring but I have neither of those things available to me and double the children. I’m just trying to believe I can make this happen as well.
Yes and yes, but to be fair, I've been taking on ambitious hobbies since we lived in a 1 bedroom apartment with 3 kids and my husband worked full time. Anything is possible with realistic expectations.
