i love this type of heel. it's very stable and comfortable to walk in. if i could find like 3 pairs of these, i would ditch the flat doll shoes that have been affecting my back. this is beautiful work. thank you for sharing the mistakes too. crafting takes a lot of repetition so that you finally feel satisfied with the craft. beautiful👏👏👏
You are awesome. Imagine being able to make shoes to fit your very own foot! I think its such a challenge yet worthy of it. Thankyou for sharing this with us, the whole project was so interesting!
Amazing, I love the shape of these shoes. I always wear a similar type shoe for work as the heal is comfortable but as with modern times, the front has a slight platform to it. My grandfather used to make shoes like this as a shoemaker in the village he was from in Cyprus. I never met him, but my mum would tell me stories of being in his shop helping him. My mum showed me how they made ‘shoe glue’ 😂 when I was little and we used it for crafts. From memory I think it was flour, water, lemon juice and salt, but I don’t remember the quantities. She would then cook it on the stove until it became very opaque and the same consistency of what you were using. I remember the satisfaction on my mums face ‘ shoe glue!!’ she would announce when it was done lol
Definitely feel your frustration when shoemaking goes wrong! My first pair of shoes went on almost perfectly, that is .. until I took it off the last and tried it on: it was way too big for me to wear 😂
@@greyhaircrafterSame here 😢oh yes, my very first shoes. Just straight to the bin. But now I am very aware, to where I place my nails and when to take them off
Thank you for sharing your process for making these exquisite shoes. I’m looking forward to reading your blog. And thank you for your honesty. Sometimes the best lessons are the most painful ones. Your color matching is masterful, and clearly they part of the process was Gray Kitty Approved.
You should be very proud of your self Katherine. You are so skilled and talented. I am absolutely mind blown of this amazing job you did. Those shoes look so beautiful and sofisticated, and you did such a professional job. One would never guess that they are home made and not professional. Thank you for sharing. You are an inspiration.
I thought I my head! Looking at a box of shoes I have that are destroyed on uppers and heels, but the soles AWESOME and fit my arches, or lack of, and are not made anymore. And I wondered if I could do this myself.. and here you are... I didn't even speak it out loud,. Same happened with your hair video. I commented same.. just a THOUGHT.. ANYWAY. I LEFT A COUPLE PAIR IN MY CAR WHEN IT WAS VERY HOT, AND DIDNT FIND TILL IT GOT VERY COLD. so they've fallen apart. But the soles are still. Perfect. And I wondered!!! In my head, if I can find a way to recreate the shoes. The style fits. I'm a dancer and I buy my shoes for that.. the perfect hieght and sole that doesn't stick as so many are rubber now.. not leather or poly. 2 to 4 inch heels. These two happen to be from "MUDD" AND are not a tight pointed toe or tight pointed extended .. So this video popping up ... Tells me.. YES,, YOU CAN! I HAVE A moccasin ship that sells leather scraps.. they are different thicknesses, types, and I used a thick one to resolve my moccasins.. ( grounding, I'd I'm not barefoot, I wear leather soles shoes. Old ones because they are hard to find. Even reservation products lately are using a rubber sole.. which I ripped off this pair of moccasins.. to put new leather sole. ( Honestly, I'm very surprised indigenous shoes have rubber soles) grounding is prevented through runner)
Wowwww I love love love this video! As a fashion designer I love making clothes but I admire some that makes shoes! Great job!!! I can't wait to see another video!🥰
Awww. I've always viewed mistakes as my springboard of inspiration. Seems like that helped you too! Thank you for sharing this incredibly helpful video! 👠In the end, what an extraordinary accomplishment! You should be very pleased!
I have been wanting shoes like these my whole life. They are so feminine and just built better in my opinion. But you did a wonderful job ❤❤❤. They are beautiful.
Wow! Are you for real? You are a genuinely artistic/ creative/ hands on / resourceful young woman! I was looking for videos on how to grow long hair n came across ur latest. Thank you! 🌹
WHOA...I wish I could make a pair. With everything else i do - I just cant move onto shoes, esp with the limited energy i have. Can i ask...what book did you show there...the first one, not the one you referenced. i DEF want that book. I do have a local shoe maker, who quoted me about $600 for a pair...if I can save up and get her to make themn I will. Stunning.
Wow superbe work! Remember that it’s alright doing mistakes means we are learning and that’s great! Why do simple , when you can do it complicated! Lol the simple way here, is to buy them already made for you 😉 keep on doing the great work !
I would love more information on your shoe making machine! Would you mind letting me know what kind it is, where you got it, and how much something like that costs? Many many thanks in advance!!
Yes for sure! It is called a post bed sewing machine. I am in Canada and so ordered one from a Canadian supplier. The brand and model of my post bed machine is an Adler 888, but there are less expensive versions of post bed sewing machines, like the Consew or Artisan brands. Hope this helps ❤
Hi Love the shoes I wish someone would make them again how about you ..either personal orders or mass production love the time period long hair who knew we were all caring for our hair wrong thank for great suggestions
Para mí parecer me gustan los zapatos antiguos o los que ya pasaron de moda a ver los zapatos de hoy que no me gustan por qué algunos zapatos son feos y lo llaman tendencia a mí me gusta lo normal .
This is the day Hayah has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it (Psalm 118;24). // SHLM & HaB (peace & love). The Name of the Creator is Hayah asher Hayah, as what He told Moshah (Exodus 3:14), preserved in the Hebrew Scriptures. There is a curse to the G-o-d name (Isaiah 65:11-12), preserved in the Hebrew Scriptures. All followers of the Messiah are to do the 7 appointed times (Leviticus 23), but no more animal sacrifices, following the Crucifixion of the Messiah. We are now of the order of MLK TSDQ (King, righteous), to Whom ABRaHM tithed. Ask the Messiah to be your personal Savior. He said to him, I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me (John 14:6). All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of Hayah (Romans 3:23). The Messiah died on the cross, & Resurrected three days later (presenting Himself as First Fruits to the Father). Please ask Him to be your Savior. He is the ONLY way to Everlasting Life.
They look lovely on you and I love your comments at the end about its fit. I have a question about foot size, I tend to wear wide women modern shoes, is this anywhere close to yours? Finding pretty shoes that fit is pretty darn hard and have wanted to make my own but most people that have videos have regular or narrow feet.
Thanks for your comment! 💕 My feet are about a 9C in women's modern shoe sizes- on the wider and larger side! The great thing about shoemaking is that you can completely customize the size of your shoes- either by buying shoe lasts in your proper width, or, if that isn't available, "building up" a too narrow shoe last with strips of leather glued on. ☺️
@@KatherineSewing Oh. Okay. Thanks. I can fit into mediums but I have to go up a whole size for it to fit and going to the specialty shoe store is a drag. I tend to only buy and wear tennis shoes becasue of lack of selections.

Thank you for your comment Karen! ☺️💕 I agree very much about the heels! American Duchess sells shoes with heels like these!
What a badass project! I have never seen anyone make their own vintage shoes before, so this blew my mind. They are gorgeous. Good job:)
I love your 1920's shoe making video ! Thank you for sharing your progress. What a wonderful endeavor to recreate historical shoes.

I forgot to remove the nails holding the insole onto the last. Couldn’t get the shoe off. Sat on floor and cried.

I can't imagine the feeling of slipping your feet in your HOMEMADE shoes for the first time after working on them. Awww. What a lovely video
Heating helps with covering heel - blocks 🙂

Wow! I am so impressed! These are stunning.
Fabulous hand carved Louis heel you made! What type of wood did you use? please make a video explaining your process.
Thanks! I used basswood as it is easy to carve, though ideally a harder wood would be used for a heel. I appreciate your interest in this topic!

Do you mind sharing where you bought your copy of “Bespoke Shoemaking" by Tim Skyrme?
I’ve been looking for a copy.

Big question...r they comfortable
Do they strike the ground right for you
How many hours did they take to make?
Probably 50-60 hours, including the time building up the last, making the pattern, and carving the heels.
Gorgeous 😍❤️
Thank you! 🥰

How have you learned to make shoes?! Or where?!
