  • Coaching Session at Smash-N-Go Table Tennis Club in Nashville, Tennessee. I spent some time working on my forehand loop with my good friend and coach Harrison Ngo.
We worked on my FH for the first half and my backhand in the second half of this coaching session. This video is just the forehand.

Great tutorial! My forehand was almost all arm and shoulder. Maintaining a consistent arm stroke while rotating the hips and keeping the center of gravity above the belly button was a game changer.

I wish I had a coach like you... Unfortunately I dont, so I have to see myself where I go wrong, which is sometimes a bit hard.

I'm actually the student in the video. I filmed this for coach Harrison (red shirt) but since he never posted it I've posted it to help promote his services. As for myself, I've always found it helpful to film myself. I have filmed myself doing the strokes without the ball (Shadow practice), at my home, at the club, and during games. Sometimes in my head, I think I'm doing one thing but the video shows me otherwise! Good luck!!!

@@Whistle_For_Fritz Oh, sorry for the mixup 😅. Yeah, I agree, filming yourself is always great, it helps to see what you are really doing, but sometimes its hard to notice what is wrong and/or how to fix it. My coach never really told me where I do wrong and how to change it for the better (maybe because he isnt really that strong with the technique). One way or another, I envy you for having such a great coach :D

@@Brozi I've been lucky to have a few different coaches over the years. One was a top 20 player in the US but his English wasn't as good at the time so our ability to communicate was limited. (His English is MUCH better but he moved away!) Harrison's ability to explain things is GREAT. I had a conversation recently about how he tries not to tell students too much in one lesson to overwhelm them. He will pick two or three things to work on at a time.

I have heard Harrison say before that he doesn't recommend playing penhold, interestingly

Smashngott on Instagram. I’m trying to convince him to start a RUclips channel. He has a lot going on so I made a few videos for him.
