Backhand Lesson with coach Harrison Ngo at Smash-N-Go in Nashville

My coaching session with coach Harrison Ngo at his table tennis club, Smash-N-Go Table Tennis, in Nashville, Tennessee. I spent some time working on my backhand loop. Honestly, my backhand is a huge weakness of mine. For this lesson, we were working on the mechanics of the backhand. I have a long way to go to integrate it into my game in a meaningful way. If you want to see the work we did on m...

    This is so helpful. I just purchased a 2055 and I’m wondering if you can mirror the drills. Meaning if something is hitting mostly on the left side of the table, can you flip it so the same drill is ran on the opposite side of the table. Thanks

    • @Whistle_For_Fritz
      @Whistle_For_Fritz Месяц назад

      Yes you can! A lot of the drills have an opposite drill but for those that don’t you can go into setting a change it from right handed to left handed. Go to: setup > hand> left

    Thanks for the video. May I ask if any changing spin in a drill? Such as Drill # 9: backhand, wire forehand, middle forehand, wire forehand are all in same direction of spin?

    • @Whistle_For_Fritz
      @Whistle_For_Fritz 3 месяца назад

      On this robot you have to manually change the spin. So you can change it to top or top side but it will stay the same until the end of the drill. They have a newer robot that does change the spin during the drill but it is not this robot.

      It think the quality is great! I’ve only had one problem and it was defiantly my fault. I was using the robot in combination with a return board. I had one side/tray up and placed the return board there. I didn’t pay attention to where the net was and it got tangled in the ball feed. Which stripped an internal gear. Luckily I live close to where they are sold and was able to have them replace the gear. It’s worked fine ever since.

      @@Whistle_For_Fritz ouch! well if it is working after one year it might be good, I won't have support close to me (Argentina) but I will take care about the net.

    Metal adjustment plate for head angle seems more durable than clear plastic plates some machines have. Nice demo.

      I actually think this robot it pretty durable. I’ve seen some serious wear on the one at my local club but it is being used by a lot of people that have know idea how to use it. I did get the springs tangled in the net once(my fault!) and it stripped the internal motor gears that feed the balls.

    I have the same RoboPong 2055 that has been collecting too much dust for how great and complete it is! Mostly did Falkenberg drills but then started lacking motivation to set it up when by myself as I play quite a lot with a partner. I think I might just do the same thing you're doing and go through all the drills properly and approach each one of them with the mindset I feel that you are putting into them. I'll try to catch up. Thanks for all the great tips and inspiration. Cheers!

      I find that if I put the robot away and/or fold up the table I don’t practice as much. I try to leave it out so if I’m board I can jump on the robot for even a few minutes. I’m usually working on something so I’ll do a drill that works that area for a few minutes. I had to put the table away the other day and I haven’t played lately. Time to get back to it! Thanks for watching!!!

      I'm actually the student in the video. I filmed this for coach Harrison (red shirt) but since he never posted it I've posted it to help promote his services. As for myself, I've always found it helpful to film myself. I have filmed myself doing the strokes without the ball (Shadow practice), at my home, at the club, and during games. Sometimes in my head, I think I'm doing one thing but the video shows me otherwise! Good luck!!!

      @@Whistle_For_Fritz Oh, sorry for the mixup 😅. Yeah, I agree, filming yourself is always great, it helps to see what you are really doing, but sometimes its hard to notice what is wrong and/or how to fix it. My coach never really told me where I do wrong and how to change it for the better (maybe because he isnt really that strong with the technique). One way or another, I envy you for having such a great coach :D

      @@Brozi I've been lucky to have a few different coaches over the years. One was a top 20 player in the US but his English wasn't as good at the time so our ability to communicate was limited. (His English is MUCH better but he moved away!) Harrison's ability to explain things is GREAT. I had a conversation recently about how he tries not to tell students too much in one lesson to overwhelm them. He will pick two or three things to work on at a time.
