Would you consider doing a comparison of Timberline Pros Powertrain and Danner Lead Times? I’ve worked at a warehouse retailer for 2.5 years now (Co$+co) and finding good shoes for toe protection and walking/standing on concrete all day is tough. My counterparts all have the same struggle, in search of the Goldilocks shoe for this work. I am an advocate of shoe rotation so they dry and protect your feet, plus material recovery from compression. I have used the following brands with a comment on each: Timberline Pro Powertrain - best for comfort and protection so far. Have lasted a solid year in the rotation. Foam is flattening out. Hoka -all leather nurse shoe. Rolling foam. Comfy to start, wore awkwardly quickly. No protective toe. Merrill-Composite toe. Stiff sole, never broke in with use correctly, uncomfortable. Keen-Composite toe. Squishy. Good for no more than 5 hours. Ok material recovery. Meh. Dr. Marten loafer cut. No protective toe. Great looking shoe. Crap for working like this. Replacing Powertrains soon ( I use them the most ) and came across the Danner Lead Time. I used Danner Acadias in my previous life a lot and have loved their boots (except when they farmed some out to Vietnam factories, QC issues). If you made it this far, thanks. Really enjoy your videos. Be well. From Far Northern California
They also put the logo on the outside of the foot instead of the most inside, which I personally dislike. I prefer the inner step logo of the Cons and old PFs
Nepo baby stays in family business buying a brand, saying they’ll improve it, makes it worse, and charges more for it. Makes daddy proud. Honestly, just really appreciate this channel. Great job team Weston.
I have been a long time fan of PFs. I prefer the style of them over chucks, but I’m not the biggest fan of the direction of PF these days. Under NB ownership, they brought nearly identical reproduction pieces of the original styles whereas today they are messing with the recipe to make them more modern and trendy. The heritage sneaker style is why I loved them so much in the first place. The prices have also gone up quite a bit. I hope they listen to some fans and bring back more old school style.
I have a couple of pairs of PF Flyers from the early 2010s (New Balance Era). There is definitely something to the insoles. They give a bit of arch support that makes PF Flyers feel more supportive and comfortable than Converse Chucks. It’s too bad the new owner got rid of the insoles. I suppose you just buy aftermarket insoles, but the insoles were a big part of the brand’s history. Also, looking at the one you cut in half, I don't like stylistic changes the new ownership made. Seems like change just for change sake.
Chucks in Japan JDM market is somewhat much better quality than PF's (either Made in Japan or Made in Indonesia), whole lot of variations there, Converse CPD, All Star Coupe (full leather collection, often collaborates with Japanese tannery, Made in Japan version is the most expensive Converse I saw), Converse Addict (better quality than Chuck 70, and use Vibram outsole), White Atelier, Converse Made in Japan (manufactured by Moonstar in Kurume, the guys that make boutique vulcanized shoes like Shoes Like Pottery, DOEK, PRAS 2015)
@@chrisa8990 as I said mostly JDM (Japanese Domestic Market), I'm from Indonesia but the Converse we get here is the regular stuff plus Chuck 70 which is Made in Vietnam, so no JDM Converse even tho most of them are Made in Indonesia (hell even PF Flyers don't sell their shoe here in Indonesia)
I bought a pair of PF for really cheap when NB killed the brand. They aren't the model I would have wanted. They are the military style, but im glad to have them.
I really like my old PF Flyers! I just wish that the toe box was a bit wider. They are such a disappointment right now that the higher price brings nothing for the cost. Thank you for the review!
About a month ago, I got some Pro-Keds, Converse 70s, and PF All Americans. Unfortunately, the PF were a bit too small, so I gave them to my brother. I don't know how they compare to the center hi, but it seems like a good shoe. The Pro-Keds are the most comfortable to me.
I really like my All-American suede PF Flyers. They have a little tab on the back that for me, makes it impossible to go back to any hi-top that doesn't have one. They have some new All-American Hi-Tops I'd be curious to see cut in half. Despite their name, they are not made in the USA, which is a bummer, but again, I really like mine. I also got them on sale, so there's also that.
I had purchased a pair of Chuck 70's a couple months ago. Tawny Owl. The fit was brutally narrow, crushing my pinkie toes. I don't even have wide feet. The canvas yellowed so fast. I decided to replace them with a pair of flyers in center hi brown. They are a bit wider in the toe box and definitely way more comfortable for me. I even prefer the insole. The look is a little more basic but I actually really like that. The colorway is superior as well, close to my Red Wing 875's. My only gripe is that the tongue slips a lot. I think both sneakers have something great to offer everybody, it all comes down to fit and preference. But I don't think you can go wrong either way.
Please please please look at the pf flyer grounder, they seem to be the higher end version similar to the chuck 70s, your original video on pf flyers years ago convinced me to buy a pair and ive wanted you to cover this topic ever since
Thank you for making this video. I own a pair of PF high tops from around 2016 and that insole is very comfortable. I was looking at buying a new pair but I'll be passing now that I know they've changed the formula.
1:28 well Pro-Keds Japan is pretty much the cool Pro Keds HQ now they sold like very very good quality shoe (use to be made in japan but it is expensive af, so they nerf it and made it in Vietnam)
I recently got a pair of chuck 70s that I loved and lots of people made comment on, cuz they look really good. I was so disappointed when the vulcanization failed after only like 2 months. Thank god for Loctite super glue lol.
If you're not aware, both Vans and Converse make skate specific shoes (i.e. "Vans Skate Sk8-Hi" and "Converse CTAS Pro High). I would love to see a video comparing the standard, mall-bought shoes versus the skate specific shoes.
Fell off with PF Flyers, the 1993’s I got, $100 mind you, came with a basic, flat, thin insole. Talk about a cash grab. Luckily, I found Red Ball Jets and they’re substantially superior. I usually wear orthotics but no need with the Red Balls. You should check them out.
Chuck 70's are still the most comfortable. Been wearing Chucks since the early 60's and tried the new All Stars. The All Stars are horrible, the uncovered front seams will tear your toes to shreds. I also like the high top Pro-Keds. They are very comfortable too. I was going to buy some PF Flyers but at the time they were unavailable so I got the Pro-Keds. I really like them as much as the Chuck 70's and they look pretty cool too. I had Sears high top Jeepers as a kid for a while and apparently they were made by Converse. We wore Roebucks jeans too.
I tried the PF Flyers over five years ago and they were so uncomfortable. It hurt to wear them. Converse just fits so much better. I would give them another chance, but sounds like chucks are still better at my age.
I still got my made in USA PFs I got years ago. They've lasted and lasted. It's got a layer of leather inside and says 'made in usa' on the circle patch and the sole. Kinda sucks that I can't get it again when these finally get worn out. I got them after wearing through a pair of Converse sneakers that split around the toe box area, seems it couldn't handle the daily flexing after a few years. The PFs, at least the Made in USA version were much higher quality in my opinion
Got my first pair of Chuck Taylors high top 60 years ago. When your 4 years old, there is nothing better. Did get a pair of PF Flyers and did not like them as much. Thanks for that excellent well put together video. As a kid I always wore Pro-Keds and found them recently. I wore Converse as an adult and the Pro-Keds Royals and Converse All-Stars are very similar in fit and comfort..Last year I bought a pair of PF Flyers and was very disappointed. The insole was a cheap dollar store type insole and the harder canvas and rubber made them uncomfortable to wear. Can you cut up a pair of Pro-Keds and compare them to the other 2 brands?
I know it's a big ask but I would absolutely love a comparison of Converse 70's and Visvim Skagway Hi's. Are they really worth 10x the price, when they look almost identical? The leather lining, cork midsole, vibram outsole, leather toecap and excellent Japanese craftsmanship start to justify it, but I'd really love to see a teardown.

PFs are more comfy to me, but their soles split within a few months for me. Always on the side, right at the crease. If I’m buying sneakers, it’s chucks for that reason alone
I quit wasting my money on Chucks a few years ago. They were my daily shoe all through high school and my early 20's but the quality got so bad it just wasn't worth it anymore. I switched to Red Wing Postman Oxford's for my regular wear and haven't looked back.

Yes, Ray Bradbury had that story about the romance of new summer sneakers and how they made you jump higher and fly and run automatically and all that, but of course, with the old sneakers, that sensation only lasts about a week and a half if you're lucky. I never saw the old PF in the stores when I was growing up, so I never got to experience if the arch support was better, but I probably wouldn't have bought them anyway because they didn't have the Star logo on the side, so they would have made one more an outcast wearing the knock-off model, etc. Of course, when I got a little older, I stopped buying the high tops altogether because I really didn't like the way they felt and didn't care if the other teens thought the low versions were more dorky or whatever.
Just because daddy gave her a job doesn't mean she knows anything about business. Worked for company like that before and they just blame you for all their problems.
interesting that you say for ever and I dint' know about them until you made a video sometime back mentioning them. Basically I never new they existed before finding your channel.
Wow, really disappointing. Always felt PFs were a good alternative to chucks, and they fit my feet WAY better. That’s still a big factor for me but hate to see that the insole is gone, and that they’ve just made the shoe cheaper altogether. Thanks for the awesome vids!
PLEASE compare Red Ball Jets to Converse and PF!!! There are almost no videos on youtube about them, but they seem to be MUCH better shoes. I believe they do use the 1 piece, thicker, vulcanized wrap. They have a unique insole and an all-around heavy construction. Also, can you explain your Keds comment? I just looked at the Pro-Keds Royal Hi and kinda wish i had picked up a pair instead of my Cousy Flyers. A few reviews I've seen compare them favorably with the Chuck 70s.
I've really wanted a pair of these since I heard they were being made again. Can't lie, Sandlot sold me all them years ago, but I'm not impressed after watching the video.
If PF builds a better shoe and gets the rose anvil seal of approval I will buy a pair. If I was a shoe brand I would be monitoring Weston and co very closely and taking notes.
Do Converse Japan its a separate company from Nike & Converse International. There's a few interesting shoes like MiJ Chuck Highs made by Moon Star, the Converse Addict line, and I would love to see Converse Japan's vs International Jack Purcells. I heard the japan purcells are like the vintage ones before Nike bought converse and made it suck.
You should take a look at some boots, by the company Son of Sandlar...I bought my first pair at the local Renaissance Faire, knee high, buckle versions.... fantastic boots. The keather is top notch, the soles are built to last and a hundred percent waterproof(i tested that by standing in ankle deep water, not a leak after 10 minutes). And there's nothing fancy inside the boot, no lining, no special anything, its just the way they stich the leather and the quality of it

Pls look at the rockport perth slip on boat shoe i think its a good summer shoe
Maybe you'll check out the Novesta sneakers?
Please do a video on the pop cush model of Vans please!
they removed the special insole from pf flyers. there's no point to it now.
making a better shoe does not appease shareholders. and as we all know, that's all that matters.
Where is Palladium?
I am keeping my more-authentic NB era Sandlots.
If PF builds a better shoe and gets the rose anvil seal of approval I will buy a pair. If I was a shoe brand I would be monitoring Weston and co very closely and taking notes.
Strongly agree! Cheers from Milwaukee Wisconsin
you can at times get a pair of chuck 70s for $50 AUD if you look for a special. i think that makes it more or less game over.
Can you make a video about the shoes of Decathlon. They are cheap and good. Thanks. Great videos.
I think pf flyers look better than converse. However, I don’t own any and I do own a pair of chucks
some day I should probably see the sandlot movie as I do not think I have ever seen it.
And there's nothing fancy inside the boot, no lining, no special anything, its just the way they stich the leather and the quality of it
Remember to cut towards you.
I had high hopes for the Flyers. I'm so disappointed! PF stands for something else now. Damn!
Pf for fast running
All Star for Light weight walk enjoyment
1933? Never knew you were so old
Oh canvas shoe
You can get that between 10 to 25 USD here
You should cut the Jack Purcell converse next !
