Weighing in on the extra stitching! I know 100% the reasoning for it. Although yes, it does provide more lateral support for any light physical activity, and it does help keep the two layers of canvas together, those are only a byproduct. The reason that is there is actually for the tongue :P
The tongue widens out near the front of the shoe like a “T” and the left and right side is pieced and stitched into the both sides there to prevent it from moving. If you unlace your C70’s fully and pull open take a peek yourself, you’ll see that the tongue widens out and goes into the side there just around the first eyelet.
And now you guys know! 😜

The "best" Converse is still a very basic shoe by most shoemaking standards. They should either drop the price or introduce meaningful improvements in comfort and durability. I'm saying that as someone who actually likes the classic look but the flat insole is crap, there's almost no cushioning, the heel reinforcement falls apart and the rubber always cracks right where your toes bend.

The Chuck II was too similar to the skate version known as the Converse CONS CTAS (Chuck Taylor All Star). They both feature the Lunarlon insole from Nike. The CTAS has seen many revisions over the years and was originally known as the CTS. What was so great about the CTS were the quality insoles, suede toe caps, and a decent amount of memory foam padding in the tongue and collar.
I never understood why Converse had to have the OG Chuck Taylor, the Chuck 70, Chuck Taylor II, and CTAS all at the same time. What made the Chuck II such a standout for you?

I've had the All Stars for 10 years, with no problems and just as good as the day I bought them, apart from scuff marks on the white rubber, but after seeing the "smoke effect" design on new converses, have decided to keep them as they are. Yes, I came here to looking for help with the right size and I have just purchased a pair of low tops. I normally were a size 10.5 in Nikes (Blazers for example). I also have wider feet. I ended up trying out a size 10 first, which fit, but was just a half size too big for me and just looked long. So I tried a 9.5 and the fit was good. Just a little bit on the narrow size, but I have wide feet. Overall the 9.5 is much better look and fit. On the comfort scale, compared to the All-Star, it is a notable improvement to where I can actually wear a pair of chucks and not regret it. The 70s are the way to go and the way chucks should be made period.

I have many shoes, too, and like variety so I don't worry about them wearing out too much. I also have a decent amount of Vans. I was on Vans first because the All Stars I had were not as sturdy. Vans definitely made sturdier. However, I got the One Stars and I absolutely LOVE the comfort of them. The Lifts as well. I still have feeling for my Vans and have work them so much that shoe lace had to be replaced instead of the shoe. But comfort of Converse of Lifts and One Stars are impeccable. Never bought a 70...and not sure I will any time soon. I need to chill on shoe buying.

I would get a pair of each...I like the OG shoes overall look, but they do hurt your feet to wear them for long periods of time...I use to wear my Chuck's just for a few hours or so, but if you want to do a lot of heavy walking I would buy the 70's...So, I would buy both...GOD Bless ✌️

By far the best review of the original and the 70s that I’ve seen on here. The only thing that I still have questions about is the sizing. I get what you’re saying about the differences in sizing between the original and the 70’s but are you saying that Chuck Taylor’s in general run true to size? Because I’ve always had discrepancies with this. In almost all brands of shoes I wear US10.5 - US11 but in Chuck Taylor’s, I wear a US9.5, yet the measurements between the Chuck Taylor’s and other shoes should be standardly the same, right?

If I had to wear one shoe for the rest of my life I would choose the classic converse all Star high top in black because I can do almost anything in them except for running and fast treadmill walking.
Since a teen I have only have been wearing converse I can skate in them, do MMA in them, ride my bike in them and they are the best gym shoe.
I personally believe are comfortable and last long, my leather converse high-top's lasted 7y and I literally did everything in them! :)
I also believe that converse are the most unmaterialistic shoe that there is and the opposite of greed, even tho I love my chucks I refuse to have a collection, I used to have like 9 chucks but I decided to donate them to the poor cuz they need them more than me, so now I only have 2 pairs of chucks.
Life is too short for me to worry about my shoes or to start a sneakers collection that why I ended up wearing the same shoe/shoe style for so many years :)

I´ve used all stars ages ago but i stop wearing them because they are rather poor quality, and really unconfortable.
these 70s made wear converse all star again. It´s amazing it´s such an unique design, they never go out of fashion even if you think it´s not appropriate anymore. Regardless what people may tell you, this model is so much better than the original, the model that all have been waiting for.
In a nutshell if you like Chucks , buy the 70s and leave the other to teenagers who can´t afford this model.
Great review, i love my red wine pair ;)

The only thing I don’t like with the Chuck 70’s is the thickness of the sole. As I dislike any kind of platform shoes version of a classic pairs, I think this model should be as thin as the Chuck Taylor All Stars. It would be so close to perfection.

Question for people with wide foot that has 70's and they were too narrow for them - did you break them in? Are they comfortable after a while? Or is that 'narrowness' stays and maybe it's better to get a half/one size up?

That *was* actually the kids sneakers that were actually worn back then. See Timmy & Lassie, Dennis The Menace, etc. But my dad had Chucks from the 1950s, and they were beautiful! I can't tell you why they were beautiful but they were. He never wore 'em! But I knew what I wanted - I was a girl and couldn't have them until they were required for P.E. in 6th grade in the '70s. Once I was grown, I had a collection. Which I will sell so I can have a couple more custom Classics. If I wanted major "comfort," I have New Balance real running shoes. Classic Chucks come in wide widths!

I have a pair of All Stars but instead of the lightweight canvas it's more of a thicker "regular" shoe material. The color is a "static gray" with it being mainly gray but it's grainy with black and white specks in it, if that makes sense. Really it's kinda like gray canvas with a soft backing or something. I dunno what the exact model is though.
I don't think I've ever gotten more compliments on a pair of shoes than I have with my All Stars, lol.

I have a pair of custom Chuck 70s and I lift in them fairly often. I've never had the All Stars, so I can't compare. But the 70s work great. Caveat, though: I switched out the insert with a cork footbed, so I have no idea how the original one performs. Mostly switched them out because the original one seemed like it needed breaking in and it was thicker than my current insert (plus it won't form to my feet as well as cork will). I imagine it'll work fine though.
