I bought their cordovan sneakers. You can ask me anything but here’s my TL;DR experience from owning a pair for a few weeks: - The sneakers are pretty stiff so driving with them is awkward, you’d definitely feel constrained if you want to be adventurous with your foot movement. - The Sneakers are extremely soft, you’ll feel every bump on the floor and even your car’s gas, break, gear pedal if you’re driving. - Cordovan scratches as easily as normal leather so you definitely want to get the dyed crème and Napa crème from crown’s store if you’re conscious of that. -Keeping in mind the thickness of the sneakers, they are pretty comfortable and you do get the “fits like a glove” sensation as described in the video.

Oh my goodness. That was painful watching you deconstruct those beautiful shoes. But in a good way. It is great to know that there are old world craftsmen, like you, still in the world. Thanks!
Amazing to see another Crown video. After the sneaker shootout, I decided to buy the Thursday premium low in Horween. They did not last long. Maybe a month. After that I bought the Crowns in Horween. The quality is insane. Best shoe I have ever owned.
Watching you deconstruct the shoe was satisfying, brings pride really. I own 3 pairs of Crowns all in Horween and they are by far my absolute favorites.
@@Sundog1985 they are also a lot cheaper. Some have chrome free leather, leather tongue etc, I just want to know if they’re worth their price since I can’t spend $400 on a pair of sneakers. Crown Northampton was super smart to have you dissect their shoes. I have always been leary of expensive luxury sneakers. I think most go the way of Common Projects. But seeing this video, I would definitely buy these Crown Northampton's. Lot's of quality materials and workmanship, worth the price. Btw, Northampton, England is the heart of the British shoe industry... there are many famous brands located in that area. Companies that make the cheap stuff at a high price should be ashamed of themselves for cheating the consumer. Well done Wes!
I love this video. I like to buy high quality things that last a very long time, but these days it's so hard to tell when something is actually high quality or just overpriced for the sake of fashion. I would love to be able to drop 650 pounds on the shell cordovan ones, but I'm not quite there financially. Like you, though, I really want to support companies that make quality products that will last a lifetime.
I agree, and it makes me take care of it better and I feel so much better with high quality clothes on. I don’t make much either but I think the clothes we wear are worth the investment.
No. It’s a highway robbery. I’m willing to be the company buys these from a manufacturer for under $50 a pair and resells to you dummy’s with marketing to make it seem high end for 10x more money.
Great video. It’s great to know that there are companies out there that still pride themselves on producing high quality products, not cheap products pretending to be top quality offerings.
My white veg tan crown Northampton sneakers arrived today. Had to watch this video again. Rose Anvil is the best, and these shoes are every bit as beautiful in person as described here.
upload another version that's unlisted without the commentary and post link in the description, me and others would definitely appreciate! thank you for this video, this shoe is crazy
I want to thank you for bringing this brand to my attention. I was in the market for some new chukkas and their woodford desert boot seem like a steal at $299 if they put even a fraction of the effort into those.
If you're doing such high-end shoes, I'd love to see some high-fashion shoes like the Tabi boots, Maison Margiela's spliced boots or JW Anderson's stitched boots from this season, they look like they're made of some really nice materials but I'm interested in their construction
I think everyone will be very disappointed by the tabis. In order to have that unique split toe construction, the soles have to be cemented onto the leather. Obviously they're not shoes that are meant for everyday wear, so having them be resoleable isn't exactly a priority, but the nice leather upper (as well as your 700 or so dollars) will go to waste as soon as the pretty thin outsole wears through.
I have a pair of shoes that were made in England called Churches that I've had for 20 years and they are still good. I used to wear them daily when I had to wear a suit to work, now they just come out for weddings and funerals but they are awesome quality and I can't believe I've had them 20 years and they are that good I don't just think I'll have them another 2 decades, I genuinely think they'll bury me with them on!
@@ES-qe1nh I just read Prada acquired them in 1999. It was around that time I got mine. I can't remember exactly but I'd say it was between September and December 2000 at Harrod's in Knightsbridge. That's one tough shoe to pull apart. It's just pure quality and craftsmanship. Great to see that there are still some companies that take pride in their work. It's a worthwhile investment over time and would still be ok to be buried in. Not sure how I got here but that was really interesting. Thanks.
Are there any companies that are this high quality that make shoes for women? I Love boots and I'm always so annoyed by how quickly they fall apart. I would pay for shoes that are made this well.
Yes actually all of the manufacturer. It's sad that's categorized as "the best shoes of the last manufacturer in northampton". This is the absolute Rolls Royce or Ferrari of sneakers! Completely unreal that a brand did this. Big respect to Crown Northampton for pushing things to the absolute limit. Probably my favorite video of yours yet and maybe the most impressive shoe I have ever seen. Thank you!!
I’m glad I’m able to see WHY an ‘overpriced’ shoe isn’t necessarily over priced. From the materials to the craftsmanship, and ingenuity. From someone who will never be able to afford it, it looks like it’s worth it.
Your local artisan probably does it for cheaper. Not a shoe shop. Directly from the sewist/shoemaker. I got mine for 1/3 the price of local artisan brands.
But you would actually save alot of money with the expensive shoes because they can last a lifetime. Throw away shoes are more expensive in the long run.
@@zinknot yeah idk if these would actually last that long. The soles will die within 10 years maximum, and to resole a should which has the sole sewn into the leather is generally not worth doing.
@@zinknot i dont really agree. Especially in "sneaker world" You dont buy for quality. Nothing last 2-3 years with daily use and pain in the ass when you want to resole it. I rather stick to my boots.

The $500 white sneakers really catch my eyes, white color is the only one element I use when I decided if it’s worth of the money on every pieces of clothing, shoes-especially shoes. I’ll definitely heading to the company’s website. Thanks again!
I think folks are having a hard time with that price tag. It is a steep price...but quality shoes make for a quality of life improvement. I'd rather have one pair of really great shoes versus 10 pairs of really crap shoes.
Totally agreed. In general, I’m a much bigger proponent of that philosophy when it comes to purchases. Higher quality products just last so much longer and they are so much better to use throughout their usable lifespan.
Love this. You're really paying for quality rather than brand, so nice to see. Just seeing how hard it was for you to take them apart, that alone really speaks to their quality!
I purchased these shoes. I have to say that they’re the only sneakers I’ve decommissioned after a year of mild wear due to sole and upper breakages. The literal embarrassment of the cork coming out of a crack in the sole as I walked during a date was perhaps my lowest moment in style.
An outro suggestion for you...Can you make a high speed rewind version of this video that it looks like your assembling it back again? That'll be dope!
Try warming the shoe up it will make pealing those soles off and the cork much easier. I’d just use a heat gun or hairdryer “cork fits your foot like a glove” and that is exactly why I was going to recommend the Birkenstock Bend Low in leather. I’ve had Birk sandals for 50 years and just six months ago bought the Bends and they are just as comfy as the sandals. I also bought a pair of their all rubber sandals for washing the cars or just chillin, for a pretty good selection of those DIck’s sporting goods sells them. Those of you who know Birks you know what I’m talking about, they are known for their cork and leather footbeds and being in founded in 1774 has gotta say something, the footbed was created in 1896
Its crazy to see the craftsmanship you get in these sneaks for the price versus what someone pays for Dunk Low Blue Lobsters or Dunk Low Red Lobsters or even Dunk Low Grateful Deads. The power of branding is insane.
On the french seam mentioned in 8:38 & the way the thread is pulled, I don't know if it's done (stitched) by hand. However, I always enjoy your video about cutting the shoes/boots.
Yes, well, I will have my dinner of fried Bald Eagle served in my library tonight by my private chef whilst relaxing in my Cordovan sneakers. I plan on having another pair made by rare leather made from virgin Lipizzan Horses, the extra hormones built up in the horses makes the leather more supple.
The reason cordovan has such a unique look is that it's technically not a leather, but a membrane. The surface doesn't have pores so that's where the look comes from.
I was in the UK last month and was looking for a pair of posh trainers. I'd seen these of course and was tempted to spring for a pair of their shell shoes. I ended up getting a pair of Loake Design (unfortunately not made in England) at a very nice discount. But after seeing this video, I think I will get a pair. In my defence, I had a pair of C&J Islays (Russian grain) on order that arrived last week :-) I will make the trek to Northampton next time out and visit some of the factory stores - maybe even Crown?
I'm glad I watched the full video and heard you say the intent of this "sneaker" was to combine the best of both. Little bit of a sneaker, dress shoe, can be worn as casual or biz and work either way. Because as first, IMO, looked like literally a fun toned-down dress shoe due to the color/size/txtr of the outsole. Kinda like Vans and a highender had an Unexplanned X-Men. I don't know still not my style personally. Seems like good quality obviously. Just definitely not a regular pair of sneakers. A polo/button down, slacks or jeans and those shoes, some ppl could pull off jeans and a T. I can't 4sure 1000% pull off the vibe and get away with it
I have retail Ann and Rick and they’re not that nice. They’re nice in the world of fashion, but no where near artisan level. You’re paying more for the design
I appreciate this video so much! I grew up wearing Clarks, Travel Fox, Ballys etc and it’s so hard to find actually quality shoes anymore. Not just “made with premium materials” I had the common projects in my cart and quickly had to remove them. Then I ordered a pair of Thursdays. But now watching this video, these are going to be my go to without question. What’s a 800$ price tag over 10/15 years? Great video.
Just ordered some high tops from them. Green chromexcel with gum soles. I would like to be able to get the high tops in premium hand stitched with cork 🤔
Agree common projects are way overpriced. I prefer my Thursday white sneakers but seeing this video makes me realize what true $400 shoes should be. Thanks
I don't know much about trainers/sneakers, but I am a shoe guy, you might find the 'Carlos Santos 9617' interesting. They're £175 and aren't much lower in quality than the shoes featured in the video (although not cordovan)
These shoes are North of $1200 here in Australia. Will the last twice as long as a common project ? More importantly will they be twice as comfortable ? Shame they don't have much color choices available for this particular series of shoes because admittedly they are pretty desirable !
Best (white)sneakers series, youtube creators should do series like this on different things. This will help consumers and manufacturers also. And it will have a big improvement on waste and a cleaner planet.
I am not really a shoe enthusiast, until I got this in my recommended. Lol thank you youtube for giving me this video because this may just be my new thing! These shoes look awesome
I recall egging you on (nagging perhaps), to include Crown Northampton in your sneaker series. I haven’t worn sneakers (we call them trainers here in the UK), since 1986, but I’d definitely wear a pair of these.
He literally showed a comparison of these to the same priced Common Projects. These things are INSANELY well crafted compared to everything else on the market, and the only one made with top shelf materials. I have nothing but respect for Crown Northampton, they are doing what no one else is doing...
Same. Some of the highest quality shoes in the world are still made here, and with companies like Gaziano & Girling they're opening new factories for the first time in decades
Hey, Northampton! Was very well known for shoe manufacture during the industrial revolution, glad to see we still have shoe artisans with the Northampton name.
I love the quality of the shoe but it makes me question at the end of the day how much I want style over quality if I cannot have both. As much as I enjoy the quality of these, they do not excite me.
I think that’s the thing; it’s a very natural show that either is your vibe or not. Personally, the genuine “it is what it is” kinda vibes with me. I can see why it wouldn’t work for others.
The quality is excellent but frankly they’re a little bulky and boring for my liking, at least in terms of this type of sneaker. I’d love to see some loafers or some nice brogues of this quality dissected.
@@nick5422 Perhaps their wholecut model is more your thing? Still very simple, but that one does hit the spot for me, especially UPTON WHOLECUT - HORWEEN NATURAL CHROMEXCEL, that's a really nice color and washy look on the leather

@@AverageReviewsYT 😅 the uppers feel very snug and breathable. Their height is just ever so slightly below the ankle joint and looks perfect. The position of the foot on the inner sole is nice and flat with no pressure points at all. And the cork inner sole is great in the way it moulds just nicely to the bottom of the foot. I usually sweat in leather shoes, but I have noticed no sweating in these. The outer sole reminds me of the latex mattress. It has just the right amount of cushion, support, and “bounce”. It might just be me, but I feel like the uppers also moulds to the shape of the top side of the foot. I have relatively thick feet and they’re slightly wide. I frequently have to remind myself how much these shoes cost so that I stop wearing them too often! Given the chance, I’d love to be able to afford another off white pair. Hope this helps! 😊🙏
After watching this same! My god those are WELL MADE ! . Although I still like the aesthetic appearance of the common projects more. Not to mention the $1300 price tag of the crowns here in Australia... ridiculous
Some of the questions I have (I just discovered that these kind of shoes exist) are: Ordering something like this, how would you know the size to get? Can you get them wet? How much would the cost of maintenance be for a pair?
1) They use the industry standard F sizing so whatever size you order on average sneakers like Vans, you’d order with Crown Northampton. 2) No, Cordovan is often marketed as being “more water resistant” but it’s not necessarily true. You should avoid getting leather wet, I wouldn’t wear these if I’m going for a walk in a rain prone weather. 3) It’s relatively inexpensive, you wouldn’t pay more than you would with regular leather products though using Cordovan specific dye crème and conditioner is highly recommended to keep the same color. Depending on how often you wear these shoes you’d want to maintain your shoes more increasing cost. In therms of getting them resoled it really depends where you live but I imagine most of the cost would be associated with shipping your shoes to the UK.
A work of art. There's another UK company called "Untamed Street" that does some of the coolest boots and shoes. Not as expensive but great design work. They're made in italy and the quality and designs are outstanding. Please review . My favorites are the Sloan Chukka boot and their PUTNEY sand-dust sneakers (natural latex sole). The sneaker is aesthetically brilliant.
Great to see a local company get the praise they deserve. I live 5min drive from Crown Northampton. I also have a pair of their desert boots currently being made 😊
From what I can gather on Guidi(from articles on their factory), their construction is Goodyear welted with canvas gemming. This is equivalent to your average 300ish dollar heritage style footwear, and they do some stuff like soaking finished boots in dye that might affect longevity. This construction is objectively a good quality construction, but it is certainly not worth the 1000 plus dollar price. The way I see it, designer brands are either overpriced garbage or overpriced quality. Guidi falls under the overpriced quality side.
@@patrickli9077 hard agree, I’m more just curious as to what he’d have to say on the boot. I’m no leather/footwear expert myself (you seem to know a lot more than me) so anytime he tackles a product I’m familiar with I enjoy learning the ins and outs of it. Thanks for the reply!

I bought their cordovan sneakers. You can ask me anything but here’s my TL;DR experience from owning a pair for a few weeks:
- The sneakers are pretty stiff so driving with them is awkward, you’d definitely feel constrained if you want to be adventurous with your foot movement.

Yes, would be interesting to see Guidi, Carol cristian poell, CDG etc. broken down on this channel.

“cork fits your foot like a glove” and that is exactly why I was going to recommend the Birkenstock Bend Low in leather. I’ve had Birk sandals for 50 years and just six months ago bought the Bends and they are just as comfy as the sandals. I also bought a pair of their all rubber sandals for washing the cars or just chillin, for a pretty good selection of those DIck’s sporting goods sells them.
I really like a company that cares about the product they turn out. Their sneakers are the best I’ve ever seen.
I was in the UK last month and was looking for a pair of posh trainers. I'd seen these of course and was tempted to spring for a pair of their shell shoes.
Agreed, this pair is really a finely crafted sneaker. If only my favorite sneakers, Puma Suede, is made like this. 😁
I'd be interested to see you dissect some Guidi boots - super expensive, but they're supposedly some of the highest quality fashion boots out there
Oh yes...I would be curious about this too
From what I can gather on Guidi(from articles on their factory), their construction is Goodyear welted with canvas gemming.

Hopefully you can help on some insight. I don't mind dropping big bucks on quality that matches black poly cotton blended material suit pants.
A cordovan sneaker with cork fillings!? lol, I can already imagine an old dude wearing this to the country club...
beats wearing boat shoes
Very fun seeing my partner's handwriting inside the sole 😌
I’m buying em man bless you for making this reviews I’ll rather support this crew and have show that will last a decade than pay for crap any day !!!
