I really enjoyed the video. However, I would, at some point, also like to see some of those 70 to 100 points games when you're running out of luck and you're trying to maximize your plays still. I think this type of video will also be educational since the Wingspan deck is so big and we can't always play with Ravens or Gull/Killdeer. Sometimes it is our opponents who gets them too.
Awesome. You might enjoy the No Killdeer / No Raven 110 game we played: ruclips.net/video/RWQmcMBjahQ/видео.html&ab_channel=LegendaryTactics . My guess is that the 160 challenge would not be winnable without those two. But if someone can prove me wrong, I'd love to hear about it. Thanks for watching.
@@LegendaryTactics Thanks for the reply. I've seen that video. I'll watch it again. Any 2 players video then? I suppose pink birds loose value with less opponents.
@@mathieu7921 Absolutely. The pink powers are very strong with 5 players and not so much with two. Perhaps our next goal will be a two player game with two high scores. Thanks for the suggestion.
Thanks for the info! I’m late to the party but watched it earlier today and just scored 142 points off the back of the cowbird and a great tuck engine. If only the bonus cards had panned out…
You guys are the best people on RUclips to watch playing wingspan. Great content guys. I would say, I’d be interested to see how highly you’d score against less players. I don’t have the game online but play the board game solo against the automa or against 1 or 2 other human players. It’s a totally different dynamic; pink powers aren’t as powerful, “give all players” abilities are hardly ever picked up etc. It’s much more of a challenge. And how the cards are valued are completely different! (Other than 4 OP birds we all know amd love ;) ) I’d really be interested to see how you’d get on against just the automa or 1 AI and what kinda max scores you could get then. Once again, great stuff though guys :)
Hey Flash and Cax, just moments ago I shattered my PB and hit 154! The main difference is I went with two "play another bird" cards, ignored pink powers, made bonus cards my main goal, played low scoring birds but had a better grassland engine with two tuck-lays and one tuck draw to compensate. And of course, I too was relying on the supreme powers of the gull/raven combo haha! Birds: 65 Bonus: 27 End of Round: 20 Eggs: 23 Food: 0 Tucks: 19
Great Video! I have been looking for a gameplay of Wingspan but couldn't find what I was seeking until I fell on your chain! Love this game, bought it to my friend for her birthday now I bought it on pc (it's cheaper hehehehe)
So, to score 150+ points the strategy is, get every best card in the game that synergize with each other perfectly and get them in the first few turns.
Great guide, really learned a lot about this game's engine building! Also at 25:27, prothonotary warbler is pronounced pro-thon-otary, where 'thon' is pronounced like dawn. Ibis is also pronounced eye-bis. Pronunciations are regional and frequently argued about by birders, but this is what I always heard
I have found this game to one of the more interesting games I've seen. I was going to purchase it but decided to hold off until I understand it better. I sometimes wonder how in the name folks come up with these games in the first place. Thank You Legendary, I appreciate the video. Liked, and shared.
Just got 146 with a Kildeer/Kingfisher combo in the opening hand - watching these videos has made me appreciate the power of early game pink powers which I used to overlook. Having said that, I'm still not sure about having a Cowbird cluttering up my grassland engine!
I find that the water environment and trying to tuck cards and having the Raven is actually better. I can score 130+ with only playing 5 cards all in water
in the 140 along with this one the 150 challenge video there was a raven on the deck, can you provide a decent tactic without these op birds in your first habitat? (killdeer and franklins gull). Not to rain on your parade but the point is that not always are those birds available and while playing with players they would pick the op cards right away (ravens and crows). For example a tactic to big score with tucked cards or food on cards wood be nice too. Nice effort though!
We can indeed! It is fortunate that we brought an umbrella to this parade. We purposely passed on these cards and did a no killdeer/no raven video because you're absolutely right about not always getting that kind of luck. ruclips.net/video/RWQmcMBjahQ/видео.html. Card tucking is another way to synergize. I'm not sure it would be possible to crack 160 without killdeer/raven, but we keep asking the community to prove us wrong on that count. Thanks for the feedback.
Wow, just wow! What would you guys recommend in a 2 player game in terms of pink abilities. I have a feeling it's a little more difficult to score so highly in a 2 player game. Cards and food don't get cycled quite as much
Sounds like we better give that a go! I think we'll have to answer this question with a playthrough. Though with scores like this, I'm not sure I can beat cax anymore.
Nice video guys! Just wondering, with a "online game with real people playin", would you rather, gambling to play kingbrid first turn or you rather drawing raven first till you got the food to play it after? I know that's makin' you lose one turn a head and less resources of playin any other birds next but I was wondering if you have to be that gready with real people? And when I have the chance to have a raven earlier in the game like that, i want to make sure that I have an other bird already an play to stack thoes eggs and discount one that same turn to have two extra foods in my supply (generaly, this first bird played, meet the first end of round goal like the type of nest needed, etc.)
Neat video. However, I feel like I stumbled into something ongoing, which I suppose is true. I would have appreciated knowing precisely what the initial setup was. Base game on Steam, 4 AI opponents, anything else? I will go check out the other Wingspan videos. Thanks!
Good points. I think we did that in the other videos, but should have done it here too. This is indeed the base game on steam. 3 AIs and 1 automa. I hope you enjoy the other videos.
The thing is: It hghly depends on card-luck. You cant plan to make 150 points and achieve that no matter the cards you get... In my experience. If you dont play the low point birds you can be stuck at not playing any birds at all, or way to few...
@@LegendaryTactics I think it was due to a raven I lay in the middle of the first round that gave me resources allowing me to focus on building a more efficient engine. Am I right that this game is about building effective engines to basically automate point gathering?
No human would ever not take the raven... I mean... Kind of easy to play against the AI you know.... Makes me wonder if you can get these scores against real human beings

agreed, I think the barn swallow would have yielded a similar amount of points, but more importantly would have helped cycle even more cards
I'd love to see high scoring games for the weekly challenge, of course after that week is up. I've been trying to reach 100 and I haven't been close.
I average between 100 - 115. My record is 129. I'm keen to watch this video and hopefully break into the 130's :)

Thats a really good point. Your absolutely correct, it took many, many kicks at the can to hit the 150 score!
I reached 132 points and a lot of the times 120+ But never 150
Normally I score between 90 and 110 points. In every game I reach at least 90 points.
I am stuck at about 70 points. :-( Dont get the strategies... So first few turns always concentrate on one row?
Not quite no. I put together a strategy guide that should help. ruclips.net/video/NZYs1y-yv7E/видео.html

I just finished my first round of wingspan with my Mrs. I ended with 168 and she had 89. Is this unusually high?
Yes indeed. That is an unbelievable score. Even 89 is strong for a player on their first few games.

Tournament scores are definitely not nearly this high. This is just a training ground.
why so little likes?
