- This insane game has set the world record high score in Wingspan vs the A.I. This interview breaks down the the game Wingspan with Boneless, an incredible player. We examine strategies you can use, how to build your engine, and ways to improve your game. Some players in the world are so incredibly good at a game, that the scores they get are almost unfathomable. This is one of them. In this Wingspan game, Boneless shatters his previous high score of 172, and sets what we believe is the new world record for Wingspan in a standard game against non-human players.

Wingspan is a competitive, medium-weight, card-driven, engine-building board game from Stonemaier Games. It's designed by Elizabeth Hargrave and features over 170 birds illustrated by Beth Sobel, Natalia Rojas, and Ana Maria Martinez.
You are bird enthusiasts-researchers, bird watchers, ornithologists, and collectors-seeking to discover and attract the best birds to your network of wildlife preserves. Each bird extends a chain of powerful combinations in one of your habitats (actions). These habitats focus on several key aspects of growth:
Gain food tokens via custom dice in a birdfeeder dice tower
Lay eggs using egg miniatures in a variety of colors
Draw from hundreds of unique bird cards and play them
The winner is the player with the most points after 4 rounds.

Awesome. Insane score. Never would have though this possible lol. Don’t think I ever got higher than 95? Does he have a twitch? It’s also crazy he can talk and play a game at this level. When most people have to talk can’t think….

Wow insane score! I managed to get a 177 last week with a couple misplays aswel, hunting for that 180!
It may require that you play the game until you vomit to get a score like that.

playing the Warbler isn't a mistake... you'd been out of Egg capacity if you would have tried going into the Prairie to get the food to play the Egret and Eagle. aand your low on food because everyturn your turning 1 food into an extra egg. as soon as you got the Egret you shouldn't have done that for 3 rounds till you got the food needed for the Egret
It comes down to such tiny impacts in a game with a score like this. Thanks for weighing in.
What is that awesome song at the start? Also amazing play. I tend to only get around 100 points with friends and I really want to figure out how to shore up inefficiencies

Crazy! Little confused how is he suggesting how intentionally he picks his starter cards? When we play it’s always random
When he's going for the big scores, I imagine he's just restarting if he doesn't get a favorable set of options from the start
This is the second day I am playing this game. I had a best game with 135. But I believe it is possible to have 180 if you are lucky. You just need a couple of repeat cards to allow other birds to play in the same turn and some really good luck. I just beat 1 hard together with 3 normal bird.
That's a great score for so little experience.
Is there a fair bit of luck in Wingspan? Sure. Am I confident I would beat a new or even moderately experienced player essentially every time? Yes. That too. Learning how to mitigate your luck is absolutely essential to becoming a great Wingspan player.

My high is 134 against 2 human opponents on bga. I think against humans it would be much harder to pull this off.
At one point i thought 150 was an impossible score..... Now after this feat, it would appear that 190 is actually attainable. Beyond that, I would guess there is no way, with just a finite number of actions.
Yes totally crazy that 190 is a possibility.
200 is technically a possibility, I've analysed some of my boards with missing EOR points and missed bonus cards and with optimal bonus cards it could've been 200 but I've yet to see anyone do it.
Right now I think 5 people have broken 180
Must be nice to be that lucky with the card draws... obviously you're insanely good also not to discredit that.
Luck is certainly important to get scores anywhere close to this, but as you point out, luck alone won't carry the day.
@@LegendaryTactics Also, if you play enough it's just a matter of time before you get a draw like this. It's not luck so much as opportunity at that point.
i think especially with the european expansion the way to win is cards underneath cards, because they are not limited plus you recycle.

Well, true. But I think the AI is just a pace car that pushes to your best possible score
Yeah 180 scores are not possible against real players I would argue since players seek to squash other players point engines
and steal cards like the raven when they come out

How did no one pick up the raven here after two turns though? Why did he risk not picking up the raven by playing the gull?
This is against AI, youre absolutely right that playing against others no one would leave it
Yes, it is against the AI - I'm not sure what the highest recorded score is against other humans, but this is the highest we know of against the AI
