Hi Rick & Pauline, great video i agree the Mainline couplings are brill, have a rejig with the goods shed it`ll all work out. All the best TONY [ GRIFFIN STATION ].
Hi Tony, yes can't fault those couplings, Pauline might have to benefit from your expertise in all things kit building but yes it's definitely salvageable. Cheers Rick
Great video Rick you've collected some nice stuff and tel pauline not too worry about the mishap on the kit I've done a few times it happens all the best 👍
It is all good glad to see you both:)!! Ilike the second one and yes :) I do have some of those as well but mine don't have the white tables :(!!! Nice you got some good Trans mate!!!Off to the show now!! Nice looking Green one and a good $$ yes. Back to more good Tranis!!! Nice Viewers comments :). O WOW :) thank you so much for reading my comment!!! You all mad my day too lol:).Great Layout + I do like the Bentley. My hole Layout are Bentley and RR verry posh lol right!! Thank you for showing the cars just for me right lol!! Just love the great Layout wow nice!!! I bet they are hard to do but you did well Pauline :). LOL yes, I am right there with you on this Rick!!! Most times it does take me about a week to pull together a video!!! I get all of my stuff pertaining to it. So, you do a great job mate and say hi to Pauline for me :)!! Ps i do get my Wife from time to time to watch as well!!! ..... And there is no way that see wasn't s to be in mine lol. That is not here thing lol!! Take care from the USA South :)!!!
Hi, their Rick, if you get the chance, I have a new Tran video up. I hope that you see it before RUclips takes it down lol. I think they might because of the Music? Take care and have a great weekend to mate cheers!!!!
Hi there both. To be honest, when you said you had lighting problems, I honestly thought you were going to show us a rubbish video. However, what we had was a brilliant video of a layout in a thunderstorm. Whether or not it was by accident, it doesn’t matter. It was a deliciously dark piece of film. Nice work and we need more like it. Well done.
Hi Kevin, the fluorescent lighting made the footage unusable in colour so I did it in black and white. When I saw how it looked I added the sound effects, I also slowed the footage down to make it more atmospheric. It suits the layout which depicts the railway at the end of steam and Sheffield Victoria station being torn down. I'm happy with how it turned out and I'm glad you like it. Thanks for watching Rick
Interesting video guys, the Nobody Inn is an actual pub in Devon. Been to it several times, very olde world, with a collection of whiskies that you wouldn't believe.
Hi Rick loved the video and you have a great collection of Locomotives and rolling stock. Tell Pauline not to worry I've done that when glueing kits together all the best to you both
Hi guys, I really enjoyed this video. Plz do more like this. My favourite model was the Penn central GG1. A cracking look at barnabus junction. Jason's amazing. All the best guys. Carl.
Great start to the day, even got a shout, my cup runneth over! How many times have we put kits together wrong? More times than you can count, but you have to bite the bullet and strip it apart, it's all part of it, just shrug your shoulders Pauline. Thank you both, very entertaining...Andy.
Hi Andy, yeah it will be fine and it's all part of the learning curve. We are going to read more comments in the next vlog and it seems to have gone down very well. We are still planning to do Woodhead but we have snow forecast all week so we might have to hang fire! (It's pretty bleak up at the tunnels) All the best Rick
Hi Rick and Pauline, great show you put up again. I love the view on Mainline, they did make the better stuff at the time as did Airfix, they still fit in on a new today's standard layout. I got a few Mainline steamers, all been converted to DCC and they run perfect, so you see with a bit DIY they can be upgraded for small money, love them. As for Pauline don't let that building mistake encourage you, there is nothing a sharp X-acto knife can't solve. A good sharp knife it must be, often I see people work with dull knifes, you might as well use a spoon to cut. Actually you got two options, you leave it as it is, and sort of scratch build it further as a slightly different building, nothing wrong with that, a lot of people alter these kits to their own needs. Or you cut it apart again, cut some cardboard strips and glue them in, to reenforce the corners, nothing is lost. Sometimes mistakes can surprisingly give a better and original results, so don't give up on it… Also the attic Barnabas layout, great to see someones layout. Thanks, Cheers, Danny
Hi Danny, thanks for watching and thanks for the advice on the kit building. We still see Mainline wagons on exhibition layouts and I'm sure Airfix models are still used as well. Barnabas Junction is great isn't it and Jason still has a lot of plans for it. All the best Rick
I met you at Buxton last year, I mentioned to you about the Statfold model railway exhibition held at the Statfold narrow gauge steam engine museum. Loads of engines, roundhouse, train rides loads of things to do very large sales area and not to metion the model railway exhibits. This is a bit like a sales pitch but I have no connection to it. Look it up it’s on 1&2 April. I hope to see you out and about Cliff
Hi Cliff, yes I'm sure I remember you mentioning this show. Unfortunately it's two hours from our home and I'm not sure if we have other commitments. That's not a definite no as we do like traveling but we will check our diary. Nice to hear from you and let me know if you are going to Buxton again. All the best Rick
I liked your feature on Mainline. The quality was way ahead compared to other manufacturers at the time. I wanted to ask if you happened to have any info on the final 1984 range please? All I do know, is that there was a 4 page spread in the general Palitoy catalogue of that year. Cheers for that, Steve.
Hi Steve, I have the 83 catalogue but unsure on 84 range. The latest releases were usually annouced in Railway Modeler. I've not seen the 84 Palitoy brochure so it would be great if you could upload a photo to the Facebook group. The other source I have is Model Railway Enthusiast Magazine. I will upload what I have of there later. All the best Rick.
@@wellchuffedrailways I managed to get some pictures earlier on today of the 4 pages that was included in the 1984 Palitoy catalogue. Tbh, it doesn't really show anything much. But, it is still part of Mainline's history. I will upload them shortly. They are not full clear pages as these were sent to me. But they will give a general idea.
Hi Rick/Pauline,myself and my granddaughter are building layout with all the stuff I have collected over the years and done nothing with,we have only been to one show/train fair at Stafford, but would like to go to the one in Blackpool and make it a family weekend of it,do you know when it’s on, we are from Wolverhampton and there’s not many round here that we know of Regards
Hi the Blackpool show is usually in September. The best place for confirmation is the UK Model shop directory website. We also have a Well Chuffed Facebook group where we post details of forthcoming events. Nice to hear you are getting a layout going and making use of your collection. All the best Rick
Great video, Rick and Pauline. Quite a different and still good vibe than some other videos you've. Some very cool items and stories, and the end video was brilliant, extremely well done and filled with memory. Loved the GG1 which gets me wondering.... How much "non UK" stock do you have, and what are some non-UK stock you like (locos or wagons)?
Hi Anthony, glad you liked the closing film, the footage was horrendous due to being directly under flickering fluorescent light. This was the only way it could be used and it turned out ok in the end. The only non UK stock i have is the GG1 and a caboose! I like a lot of US locos but my knowledge of them is zero. Thanks for watching Rick
To be honest, I don't think older Hornby or Mainline models were that bad they were good for the time but as manufacturing techniques improved and there were more finer detailed locomotives this became the norm and put old models to shame. In today's economic climate, new locomotives are a rip off and I've never bought one full-price, only reduced or second hand. I really like the J72 locomotives, you can get a decent one for less than £100 if you look in the right places. I've thought about purchasing an old mainline one, I can just give it a good service and it will run better again. I think a make-do-and-mend approach is a way forward.
Hi Alex, yes it is hard to imagine how well the Mainline locos ran when they were new when all you have to go on is a 40 year old loco that's probably not been cherished. The magazine reviews of the time praised their running so they can't have been that bad. Apart from the 47 in the video which was discounted I've never bought a new loco. The Mainline J72 is often seen cheap as chips as they seem to have had a hard life. Thanks for watching Rick
Hi Rick and Pauline ,, them mainline 45 class loco's I do absolutely love. All the ones I have bought have been mainline and i think 1 hornby or lima (sorry its late an i cant remember exactly lol) but the first 2 mainline ones I payed $100 ausd and were told they were good runners but when i got then one only just moved and the other didnt even have a comutator brushes or springs even so I sent a msg to the seller and she refunded me $50. I looked on eBay for ages and couldn't find parts for the ones that i bought then around a month ago this guy in Tamworth here in oz had a heap of older lima mainline and hornby locos being 5 mainlne 45's 2 hornby and lima loco so I needed the parts so i was lucky to outbid everyone and won the whole 8 locos for $185 so around $23 per loco ausd which was cheap really. I also bought a cd drive motor conversion for the first mainline 45 i bought so it be pretty zippy around the tracks haha. As to "kit built corner" the building looks fine so why dont you put the little side entrance part of the building on the other side and shouldnt make too much of a difference. Im prerty sure rick wont worry too much about it. haha. I have the older 1958 model coal stage and your right it is a toy really but i think it was made for little kids and big kids like us haha. It also come with a dark green box for the coal and have bought a few hoppers since. Cheers from John in Australia.
Hi John, glad you salvaged those Peaks. My two run ok I've just had to put new traction tyres on them. I'm sure the kit can be salvaged so no worries there. The tipper set was definitely aimed at kids and is all the more fun for it. One forgets that back then there were no iPhones and gaming consoles so kids had to be a bit more hands on. All the best Rick
Hi Michael, the smaller shows are generally the most dog friendly. We took ours to, Scarborough, Liverpool (small show in a Church) Chester (again in a church) Carnforth (at the Railway Station. Your best bet is to contact the organisers. All the best Rick
I enjoyed the video... interesting for me learning about Mainline... lovely layout, I thought the lighting was alright... Love kit-bash corner...kéep at it Pauline... Haven't seen the hopper kit before... Thanks guys...
