    Hi Oscar
    Nice selection of nostalgia here the hornby dublo buildings are just beautiful even by today's standards. I think the Cork tiles will deaden the noise of the 3 rail very well. Looking forward to the build.

    I first saw the Duplo station on your layout some time back and fell in love with it. I just purchased a Duplo single box and hoping to get that same station and platform, that your displaying now. It's really stretching the budget but its eye candy.

    Hello Oscar, watching you show all the station items along with catalogue pictures from both manufacturers was great. They all look superb set up on the board. The Dublo N2 is a smooth runner and the acetate Princess is a gem. I'm looking forward to seeing this all develop. Best regards to you

    Love the Hornby Dublo as it was my first railway. Inherited from my father in the mid seventies until I got a new Hornby train set for Christmas. Most of it went back to my uncle who had shared it with my father when they were young. He still has it, but I still have a few bits. The signal box, the girder Bridge and the controller. That was the one with the red light next to the power handle. That is boxed still with the warranty slip. When I retire I may start collecting again.

      Hi Paul great to hear you were able to play with these items in the past and that they are still within the family. Sadly to date I've not had a chance to use one of Dublo's original controllers, it's fascinating when you find these little slips of paper still with the items.
      Thanks again glad you enjoyed the video take care.

    Morning Oscar, what a lovely collection of station parts, so well made, seeing the girder Bridge I'm sure I've got one on my layout, I know it's from my collection from the very early 1960s I've still got working and set up for the grandkids, my son inherited my sets in the 80s and now his children now play with them. I've still got several items left from that time as well as some more modern products. It's my intention to catalogue all our collection this winter, just to see what we have. Thanks again for letting us see your wonderful collection. Take care Eddy xx

    Great video Oscar. Stephen’s ink was a real thing. I used it with my fountain pen at school in the late 50’s early 60’s. What a pain that was as a left hander! Had to learn how not to smudge what I had just written. I still have some of the old platforms around and at least one of them has warped. I’ve also got the maroon booking hall somewhere. Back to my routine watching Sunday morning over a cup of tea. All is right with my world. Can’t vouch for the rest of it! Thanks for sharing. Roy.

    • @oscarpaisley
      @oscarpaisley  2 года назад

      Good morning Roy thanks for the info on the ink. I remember struggling with a number of Fountain pens in the first two years of secondary school, it was a must no other types of pens allowed apart from in the art room. We didn't use ink from bottles but ink cartridges. They were forever leaking, not only on pieces of work but in your pocket to! I was not the only one, probably a sign of the times but the school changed its policy on Fountain pens as the 70s came to a close. It was quite a big deal at the time. Great to hear you have some of the older buildings in your collection it's amazing how extreme some of the distortion can become in these early acetate models. Glad to hear you're back to your routine.
      Take care.

    It is great to see these models that I remember from my childhood even though I was born in 1956 they were still around and I remember our first layout built by my dad and uncle Terry. We had the RS1 as a starter set..I spotted the S-class Saddle Tank Running Number 748 in your catalogue. I have one here with me, but it has had a different motor fitted and a set of smaller flange wheels so that it will run on my system 6 track when built. Thanks for the memories. Martin. (Thailand).

      Good morning Martin thanks for watching glad you enjoyed seeing these items in action, sounds like a great conversion on the Saddle Tank, the one I have has very deep flanges / early solid wheels, no way it would run on the system 6.

    One of the things I like most about your high-quality movies is that you have remained committed to and developed your content over time, resisting the trend among modern modellers to be "hyper detailed in every aspect." It is not a negative thing, but there are moments when I wish I could just accept it and stop griping about things like a broken air pipe, the wrong colour of the dirt, or an oddly sized fence, to mention a few.

    Greetings Oscar! Love the Victorian station buildings. They were the first items I sought out when I began to reconnect with my Tri-ang origins! Some of the decals used on those buildings were the same as those used on the Tri-ang Minic tinplate double decker buses made at the same time. Reproductions can be acquired.

    Interesting contrast in station types, the HD ones being far more modern in appearance than the Triang ones yet both looking just right with the stock running through the. The HD one in particular, run the Triang EMU through it and the fit perfectly as a Southern Art Deco station while the Triang one works just as well with a Dublo tank loco and a short train. The designers of both got their product spot on.

    Great Film, thanks Oscar. Having the two ranges side by side clearly shows Triang's business model of cheaper plastic components, but they still look great. I read that the HD art deco station buildings and footbridge were influenced by Hoylake Station, Liverpool. Maybe some workers travelling to Binns Road picked up ideas there ? Thanks again.

    We inherited my dad's Dublo trains. We had that big station with some platform sections. Plenty of signals, wagons, coaches, and a couple of engines. We had brand new boxes of plastic wheels to replace the metal ones so we did that and used the stock on system 6 track with no problems. Made a very loud clickety clack on the rails too.

    I think the pre 62 triang buildings can look far more realistic than the more modern types. However of course it should always be remembered that triang and early hornby were aimed at the younger element of the hobby, and did a damn good job at play value that seems to have been forgotten by all manufacturers nowadays

    • @danielbayer278
      @danielbayer278 2 года назад +2

      The buildings remind me a bit of the Bachmann Plasticville stuff we had over here, ie maybe not super-detailed but with a style all its own that appeals to young people. And you're right, everything seems to aimed at the serious modeler nowadays, but how do the manufacturers think young people got into the hobby to start with?

    Hello Oscar, it's Martin from Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Another great video, thank you and well done. I have Triang R189 brick bridge, R 66 k Porters room with kiosk. and two R 61 signal boxes, one signal box has the name BRISTOL, the other has no name. The signal boxes don't have their boxes. I have two ticket offices again not with boxes. What I would really like is two or three platform sections with the subway steps. Once again Oscar your layout is amazing and thank you so much for your videos. Stay safe . Martin. 🙂👍

    Hi Oscar.
    Great to see all these early vintage models, both ranges had a great selection over the years from what I can see. It's a shame the early Tri-ang isn't lasting the test of time due to the plastic used as it must have been a good cheaper alternative to the Hornby Dublo. I also have a Dublo island station just like yours and a signal box, both are unboxed though but not in too bad condition otherwise. Another thing I do have is that green Tri-ang tanker you mentioned, it is part of what I believe to be a set along with a TC pacific locomotive, blue open bogie wagon, Yellow closed van and a red caboose plus and oval of standard grey track with siding. I remember from a very young age it running around on the dinning room table but is out of action at the moment. I'm hoping to get it operational on modern track at some point.
    Thanks for sharing, cheers Rob.

      @oscarpaisley  2 года назад +1

      Hi Robin glad you're enjoying seeing these old items from the collection. Terrific to hear about the items from the old set you had with a TC Pacific and the green tanker wagon, I have an early TC Pacific set R7X in a very worn box, locomotive in terrific play worn condition with a little warping and front cowcatcher still intact, the tender has quite a bend in two axis along its length but amazingly still runs, the pair of coaches from the set also quite play worm and the lettering has begun to shift/slide, the whole set together makes a terrific sound on series 3 rails and doesn't half bring a smile to my face. It should be making an appearance in the coming weeks.
      Thanks again take care.

    Thanks again Oscar, I do love the Hornby Dublo and early Triang buildings, I have a few Dublo stations, not in especially good condition, but as the buildings are so robust certainly useable. I went through a phase of buying Triang buildings and platforms, some are quite poor but most are very good and I'm hoping I can use them at some point, I have a complete boxed station set of Durham station, in cellulose acetate but in great condition and recently managed to buy a similar aged signal box. It is hard to find decent station canopies as they usually have at least one of the lugs broken. I'm really enjoying these current videos, very inspiring.

    • @oscarpaisley
      @oscarpaisley  2 года назад +1

      Hi Paul that sounds like a great collection of buildings you have. How do you say the canopies are very fragile on the Tri-ang range. I've bought the odd building here and there at market stalls where the canopies have been glued to them because of the loss of those little tabs and in some cases matchsticks have been incorporated to give them more strength, but they look okay once in place. The Dublo stations are far more robust and definitely stand up to a bit more of in and out of the toybox, thought they were a great deal more expensive I think.
      Thanks again, Glad you're enjoying watching the videos, take care.

    Thanks Oscar, a lovely video as ever, that Hornby Dublin station really is a work of art. The adverts for plastic aircraft models you mentioned were two brands sold by Triang. FROG were flying models - FROG was an abbreviation for Flies Right Off (the) Ground, in France they were sold under the Triang name unsurprisingly. Penguin was a brand for static model aircraft as, like their namesakes, they could not fly.

    Wow Oscar.
    Your Princess Elizabeth is a 1955 to 1956 version as you say. The valves ahead of the cab tell us this.
    I was running my same version on my Series 3 layout earlier today.
    I was also running my 2 rail Hornby Dublo N2 on my Series 3 layout just after.
    How amazing to see your versions.
    Very nice.
    I found that the Morley controller was not a good pairing with my old Tri-ang trains. I use either the old Tri-ang P5A or a Gauge Master Combi controllers.
    The old engines need raw power and I find that the Morley just doesn't supply that.
    That's my observations on my Series 3 layout anyway.

    The earlier designs of the Triang and Hornby model buildings are far more interesting than the next generation. I have just picked up a bundle of the the brown ones for a very good price; it included the loco shed and gate keepers hut. Nicely made and in polystyrene which I am happy about.
    I like the fact that they are all in different shades of Brown. Chimneys were missing so I made my own based on the original cut from brown plastic modelling sheets.
    I heard you say the green TC tanker eluded you. I was fortunate to come across one a few years ago in a scratch box at my local model shop; picked it up for the princely some of R50... 2.50 pounds in real money. It is in really good condition. The wheels had been changed so I changed them back. I have a red one as well. I think the tanker is one of my favourites of the TC range.
    Have you got the very large terminal building station?

    Another nice video, you have some really nice condition items from the 1950s there Oscar, I am obviously biased towards the Hornby Dublo having been introduced to it by my Dad a long time ago. Some of the earlier plain boxes have a date code on them to show when they were made. I lightly oil the metal wheelsets axle points with sewing machine oil, it just makes them run more freely. The aluminium station buildings and platforms are made to last, the extension pieces are not very common these days.

    Did Hornby use the same Princess moulding for the Princess Elizabeth LMS express train set which I had around 1973-74. I also have Princess Victoria which was a catalogue purchase around 1975

    • @oscarpaisley
      @oscarpaisley  2 года назад +1

      Good morning Andrew the Princess moulding was modified slightly over the years to improve it, the slot underneath the cab where drawbar came through was removed, metal safety valves were added, the front steps were removed from the body and incorporated into the front bogie along with a front coupling there were other changes along with changes to the chassis and the tender. The one you have from the early 70s is probably it's final variation. Have a look at the link below at the top of the page it takes you to there are a number of early princesses detailing a few of the changes up to the mid-60s. It was a very long running model.

    Hi Oscar,
    Wonderful range of these early buildings and ironically they probably remained stable for some time after the original owner had lost interest in trains, just a thought.
    My recently acquired Princess is dated October ‘57 (black) and no sign of warping so presumably polystyrene.
    The tender looks as though it unclips from the chassis but I don’t want to force it. Any thoughts on removing the body would be appreciated.
    ATB,
    Gordon

      Good morning Gordon it really is amazing how many of these buildings have survived, made to be played with but some of the parts on the Tri-ang buildings are quite fragile. If your princess has the late attender that was introduced in the mid 50s the coal load should pop out and there should be a fixing screw hundred which will release the tender top from its chassis. Sometimes the cold loads are very tight fit. If this is the case, using a scalpel/craft knife tip try and encourage it to lift at one of its edges. When refitting the coal load it maybe wise to take a little off the edge of it to make for a more relaxed fit back into the tender.
      Thanks again, hope that was of some help, take care.

      @@oscarpaisley Hi Oscar,
      Many thanks for the tip regarding the tender, it worked a treat. A previous owner had put some glue on the coal load but it came out with a little persuasion and no damage.
      Thank you and best regards,
      Gordon

    Stephenson Ink was very famous. They basically invented modern writing ink. The family home is a lovely garden and museum in Finchley North London.

    Would the big building be Art-Deco in its styling?

      Good morning Mike the Hornby Dublo buildings definitely have an art deco feel about them, whether they are truly Art Deco I don't know. A lot of architecture of the day had this feel about it when these models would have been considered as items for rangers of buildings Hornby Dublo produced from some of the early wooden items to the later plastic moulded items that were incorporated into the Traning Hornby range in the mid-60s.
      Thanks again take care.

    Why did they sell the locomotive(s) and tenders separately? Seems daft, as you can’t run one without the other!

    All the advertising decals are correct to their respective real companies. Including Cravens cigarettes which are surely a smoother smoke.😂

    That is kind of sad that the triang pieces warp from being original made as acetate
    That is one thing I really like about the Hornby Dublo pieces, because most stuff was made using metal and tin plate it has a heavy duty quality feel

    I run a three rail two rail mix as well. Do Peco still do a seperate third rail? 3rd Rail is so very cheap! Runs well and dont look bad...I can now understand why Hornby Dublo stuck with 3 rail

      Good morning John great to hear you're running both systems, I'm not sure if Peco do that separate third rail I've heard others talk about it but not used it myself, an intriguing product.
      All the best.

    It’s a shame they warp like that ,with three rail can you run two trains on the same track like the trix system ,great video it’s nice starting a new project
    All the best Oscar

      Good morning Mark, it's amazing the distortion that can be found on some of these older items. I always wonder how quickly it happened after manufacturer. I'm not sure about two trains on the same track, I think as both the outside rails are linked electrically to the tin base together it may not be possible, if they were isolated left and right Rail it may be possible, similar to the way the catenary and loco with pantographs could be used provided you had no models that pick up and return from the rails on the track.
      Thanks again take care.

    As a committed super 4 Triang toy train man, I have to admit, the a Hornby Dunlop items are far superior, you can see why they went bust. Too much quality for too low a price.
