HI Scott, very practical video, thanks for featuring Zhiyun Crane 2 in your video, we'd love to share your video to our channel, and post your link below the description, hope you can peimit it.
Scott. I love your video review style. Straight to the point with a plethora of useful hands on insights and top notch visuals. I have no interest in this stabilizer (Photography only) but I watched it anyways because your videos are so informative. Great job.
Overall, nice work. It covers many details - some I've learned of in video while some others are mentioned by another reviewer of this gimbal. Apparently, no one can get them all in one review. Still, this is good content which helps in deciding.
Bought the Crane 2 with dual handle. Immediately damaged the bolt thread on the dual handle on first setup attempt. No more dual handle :( You're right about it being tight to put on. I went with the total unscrewing method thinking it would be safest, but no.. It led to an angle offset putting in the bolt and now the thread is ruined.
Oh no! I can see that happening for sure :( If you post about it on their Facebook page or email them I feel like they'd be likely to replace the part for free for you or at least help set you up with some sort of solution.
I have Canon 80d and Zhiyun crane 2 also I am going to buy sigma 18-35mm which is heavy lense 810g So my question is When i will fit it to my gimbal there will be enough space between back motor and camera for tilt up and down my camera ? Hope you will get my question
Hi! I haven't tried that combination in particular, but I've used a 5D with a 24-105 f4l is ii which is also right around 800g and no problem for me. You can adjust the position of the plate on your camera as well to kind of counteract it if you find the camera coming back too far or you could also add counterweights if you have a problem. Hope that helps! :)
Great video! I'm struggling with the balance of my Crane 2 with a 5D Mark III and a 24-105 lens. I can balance it perfectly level but when I move it to a different position (like is says in all the tutorials) it's supposed to stay in that position - but mine just keeps flopping back to its leveled position. I've re calibrated it via the app. Once I've balanced, with the camera facing forward I can point the camera down and up and it'll stay put like it should do, but if I roll to either side, it always rolls back to center. Is it me or have i just purchased a faulty gimbal?
Hi! Thanks for watching! I'm guessing the issue is that you need to adjust one of the arms to balance it in each position (pointing straight forward of course, but also pointing up moving the arm on the side, then when tilting the whole gimbal using the arm on the bottom). I have a video going over it more slowly step by step of you'd like to watch. It's not the Crane 2, but the process is exactly the same: ruclips.net/video/aA-MagF1ZP0/видео.html Let me know if that helps! :)
Thanks so much! To be honest, I'm not sure. The manual only lists the 5D series but I'm pretty sure it's not limited to those. In the worst case scenario, they now released the mechanical follow focus attachment which can allow you to use the wheel and focus nearly any lens from any brand. It seems to be getting good reviews, and it's not as simple as directly controlling the camera, but it does work.
Great video! I have been looking at this gimbal for awhile but have decided to hold off for the new dji. Is balancing the gh5 easy? Also how do you like that lens? Cheers
Thanks so much! I'd really love to try out the DJI too, I'm curious how it would compare. Balancing is super easy though even with the tiny little Laowa lens. I do love it, and will have a review of that soon as well :)
Scott , Question I have is I recently purchased this gimbal and have a 5d iv with a tamron 24-70 combo. motor set to high but when I do a slight motion from say straight and ease into inverted mode I get a lot of motor rumble. Any suggestions or do I have a bad gimbal. Also note this happens with a very light combo like mark iv with a 50mm 1.8 as well
I didn't have much of a chance to test switching from regular to inverted mode with the power on because the firmware update that made that possible was released on the day I had to send it back. Otherwise though with a 5DIV and 24-70 combo I didn't notice any other big issues with motor noise or rumble. When zooming in or out and changing the weight distribution, I did have to rebalance (just sliding the plate a little forward or back) to get better results, but that was it for me. If you double check your balance, including the pan, tilt and roll axis, but still have problems it might be an issue with the gimbal. Could just be a firmware thing, lots of people have seemed to get problems with the newer updates. If it still doesn't work see if you can get a video clip of it happening, I'd be curious to see what's happening and could try and contact Zhiyun about it. Feel free to contact me via email, scott@scottdphoto.com Thanks and hope that helps!
Scott Dumas i will try and take a vid. Gimbal works as expected which may just be me and my technique which I am new at so i imagine I can stress the motor if not done right . will get back to you shortly thanks again really appreciate it
Scott, do you know how I can find out if the follow-focus feature will reach back and work with on "older", slightly less "high-end" CANONS, like the 70D ? Thanks.
I feel like it should- there were 2 cables included for canon- a micro usb and mini usb (which I believe is compatible with the 70D). I will ask Zhiyun to make sure and get back to you though! :)
When I tested it Nikon wasn't available but it may have been or may be updated. I don't have it anymore so can't really check myself but either way it's a great gimbal with or without the software support. The Plus might also be a good choice in that case, since the extra features of the Crane 2 wouldn't benefit you as much. Again, I can't currently check for myself though so I'm not 100% sure of what the situation is.
Hi! Thanks so much. You're really close to me actually. I haven't found any shops with this in stock to try out around here though... Zhiyun Japan has a shop in (or near) Tokyo but I don't know if there's anywhere else. I'll ask them and get back to you though! I think you found me on Facebook as well, right? Feel free to message me there anytime.
Oh ya...bikurista, firstly I didn't know you live in there too, this video looks like Tokyo tower as background lol, anyway thanks for your info n accepted my friend request as well, ill send you message in Facebook, thanks Scott
Unfortunately I don't and it's not listed in the manual. I already had to send it back so can't check but hopefully someone else will see this and be able to answer! Sorry!
Hi! Unfortunately I haven't had a whole lot of experience with the Ronin M, but I did really like the crane 2 and can't see a whole lot of reasons not to buy it. I also have no doubt the Ronin M is a really great gimbal (I'd love to try it out myself) but I can't really say much more than that personally. Sorry if it doesn't help much!
Yes and no... there is no provided cable for Nikon cameras to connect to the gimbal so you won't be able to control start/stop recording or other camera settings from the handle. Of course, you can still use the gimbal as a gimbal though and just control things from your camera itself, but you will be missing out on those other features. With the high payload of the Crane 2 though I think it's still a good choice because of the variety of cameras it can be used with. Also, there is now a mechanical follow focus that you can use with a lot more cameras/lenses even if you're not able to connect the camera directly to the gimbal, so it's better than nothing.
Scott Dumas I don't really mind the extra work of changing settings on my camera instead of the Gimbal. As long as it stabilizes my shots in the exact same way it would do for a canon or Panasonic, I'd go for it. Thank you for a reply so soon! I'll be getting this gimbal in the coming week. Great review by the way. Keep up the good work.
From what I've heard the ZW-B02 remote will work, though not perfectly. I didn't have a chance to try it out myself but it seems like Zhiyun is planning to release some new accessories for the Crane 2 as well, including a new remote.
I haven't tried it myself but it should be possible. They did also make an extension arm to lower the center of gravity when using a grip or 1dx type body, so that might be necessary though I'm not sure.
Both, although mostly off (the Laowa lens and Canon 24-70 don't have IS). I did try with and without the GH5 IBIS too, but didn't see any difference at all, at least with the wide angle Laowa (it's possible it could have more impact with a longer focal length where the movements are typically more visible).
lol if 1080p is "crappy and difficult to watch" for you, you're one lucky person to be that used to 4K video. Statistically speaking nearly all of my viewers still watch in 1080p or lower, so I don't personally feel the need to upload 4K just yet. I'm starting to, but it's largely been wasted until now.
What is this youtube conspiracy, to ensure gimbal reviews are useless? There is no way to evaluate performancxe when shots don't last more than 3 seconds and there's lots of slow motion. Bro, get into an area with vertical and horizontal reference points (no open fields or plazas) and start walking in a straight line You don't need dogs or cute kids. Just walk.
There were plenty of shots that lasted more than 3 seconds and more than half the footage was not slow motion. Anything cut shorter is not for hiding flaws in the footage, but just to fit more clips into a review that doesn't last 30 minutes. There were lots of shots close to the ground and with plenty of surroundings that could be used as reference points. I've used gimbals with worse performance in these same situations (and locations) and trust me, the difference is very visible- nothing more is needed to see that the Crane does what it's supposed to do and does it well. Something like this is very often used for shots following a subject, hence the "dogs and cute kids" (thanks for that compliment at least). Following the kids or running around on uneven ground is a much more challenging test than "just walking" anyway, and if there were any flaws then this footage would therefore bring them out more than simply walking regardless of having a reference points for the movement. What you'll see in those circumstances is mostly going to be the users walking "bounce" anyway and that can be covered with good technique or a 4th axis handle setup, it doesn't have anything to do with the quality of the gimbal. As mentioned in the beginning of this video I also only had about 2 or 3 days to get test footage for this and I have a full time job and 2 kids (plus weather interferes). Anyway, sorry to contribute to the conspiracy. I'll do my best to get more locations/situations into my next one. Thanks for taking the time to watch.

Stephen, thank you so much! I really really appreciate that :) This one came together pretty quickly so I'm especially glad to hear that!

Thanks so much! It is tough to get everything squashed into one video, haha. Appreciate the watch and comment! :)
Love the work you put into your video! Keep it up man
Thanks so much! I really appreciate that! :-D
Appreciated your perspective Scott.
Appreciate your watching! :) :) Hope you've been well!

But I have a doubt.

Do you know the diameter of the handle? I’d love to get a monitor mount around that handle the same way the dual handle setup mounts to the crane.
Unfortunately I don't and it's not listed in the manual. I already had to send it back so can't check but hopefully someone else will see this and be able to answer! Sorry!
I tried the crane plus and there was some jittering in the vid, better stick to crane 2 .
Good to know, thanks :) I haven't had a chance to try it out myself yet.
i can’t decide between dji ronin m and zhiyun crane 2 with the dual Handle can you help me ?
What program you use for this video production?
Mostly FCPX and very occasionally DaVinci Resolve :)
The Menu on the Gimbal doesn't include Nikon. Does the Gimbal not work with Nikon Cameras?
Yes and no... there is no provided cable for Nikon cameras to connect to the gimbal so you won't be able to control start/stop recording or other camera settings from the handle. Awesome, I think you'll love it! Thanks again, let me know how it goes!
damn that video photage looks smooth!
Thanks! The Crane 2 definitely did a great job :)
Great video
Thanks so much! :)
is it possible to use a nikon d750 on this gimbal??
It is! The follow focus won't work with Nikon right now but otherwise you shouldn't have any issues size/weight wise :)
the dual handles from zhiyun crane v2 are the same for crane2?
ANTONIS DAVIS I believe they’re different, but haven’t tried them on the V2 myself
i would appreciate if you test it!thanks a lo for your time!
ANTONIS DAVIS I would love too but unfortunately already sent the Crane back to Zhiyun, and don’t own the V2 either :( sorry!
Will the remote zhyuine work with this gimble

Can you use the 5d with the battery grip?
I haven't tried it myself but it should be possible. They did also make an extension arm to lower the center of gravity when using a grip or 1dx type body, so that might be necessary though I'm not sure.
Scott Dumas thanks for the reply
Do you use the gimbal with lens stabilization on or off?
Both, although mostly off (the Laowa lens and Canon 24-70 don't have IS). I did try with and without the GH5 IBIS too, but didn't see any difference at all, at least with the wide angle Laowa (it's possible it could have more impact with a longer focal length where the movements are typically more visible).
Scott Dumas Thanks
Why my Zhiyun no have choice option Canon.... just have Sony and Panasonic only... 😔
That sounds very very strange... I'd try updating the firmware or contacting Zhiyun directly about it.
Complete now... haha..
Thanks a lot for your help sir... :)
Will this work with a Canon C100 Mark II?
From what I've seen it's possible depending on the lens you're using. Maybe not ideal, but possible. Never got a chance to try it myself though.
What's the weight of the Crane 2
about 1.25kg ...definitely not light but very manageable especially with dual handles.
What's up with all the crappy low resolution 1080p, difficult to watch
lol if 1080p is "crappy and difficult to watch" for you, you're one lucky person to be that used to 4K video. Statistically speaking nearly all of my viewers still watch in 1080p or lower, so I don't personally feel the need to upload 4K just yet. I'm starting to, but it's largely been wasted until now.
When upgrade for CRANE 2 support exposure control in sony A7III ????????? Sony, Zhiyun wake uppp.
Its is suitable for canon eos 750d
Yes, it should be a good match! :)

Small screen display, no touch control, not convenient for using!
For a gimbal it's fairly standard compared to others on the market at the moment
