This was by far the simplest yet so effective to learning how to balance a gimbal. I have been looking for months and glad I found this video. Thank you!
Thank you for this video. I just got my first crane plus and camera ever (two days ago). So all these detailed tips about balancing are very helpful, encouraging and apply to anything. I went through a lot of RUclips videos and this is exactly what I needed! 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
Well explained but to be honest my experience is it doesn´t need that perfect balance at all. At least not as long as you are far away from its max payload. My Canon 80 D with battery grip and a Sigma lens is about 1,9 Kg which is not a light camera. But even if I do not balance it perfectly or I change the focal length of the lens without changing the balance setting, it works without any issue because the Crane 2 has that much power. And that´s why I love it.
DER PRiNZ - Photography he said the reason to make sure it’s balanced properly is because if it’s not it will put more strain on the motor. You might still get great footage, but at 600 bucks, I wouldn’t want the motor to give out prematurely.
This is the best balancing tutorial I've seen. I have the Zhiyun Crane-M (my first motorized gimbal), and have been challenged by the balancing aspect. After watching your video, I feel like I now know that my end game is in that regard. Thanks!
I bought one Crane 2 and I'm expecting it in the next few days. I have a Handycam SONY FDR-AX53 . Hope it weighs well with these instructions and works properly.
This is super useful, thank you. I totally misses a motor. Now, the problem is trying to get this to balance correctly on a BMPCC6k with a heavier lens...
Wow, i went through many videos , but i seem to have missed out something. But this video just nailed it - especially making note of the markings. else it would have been a pain doing it on location. Thank You.
yes i agree, nice and concise, and a good tip at the end to keep note of what settings used for different lenses on initial set up, i would recommend having 2 or 3 sets of rechargeables if doing a wedding or sports event because 3 power hungry stepper motors are involved, what not is mentioned is the fact zoom lenses would be useless in the sense the point of gravity would be upset even if the zoom not used, simply because if the zoom level gets out of kilter inadvertently then it goes awry, i am getting my pennies saved to buy this gimbal but also saving for at least one prime lens perhaps two [ have 3 lenses and good ones too; but are all zoom] , i'm primary a stills photographer but have dabbled in the past with video, must reinvent my skills in premiere and after effects, but i so love boys toys, i wish now i didn't buy the neewer 7inch monitorand instead went for the 5 inch one cos of weight,
good job hman - well it looks like I will be buying a Zhiyun crane 2 - the consensus across the web has them as the best for the heavier Canon Mark III with a host of L series lenses......great job man!
Any chance I can zoom with someone for help? I'm literally verbatim copying every single instruction given in these balancing videos yet I can't get it to the place where it will stay wherever I move it. Seems like no matter what lens I'm using, it still will lean too much on way or the other but I can't adjust any further. I'm using an 800D canon.
Thanks man. Can you do another showing your process for balancing with the follow focus? The basic crane setup is easy enough for me, but with the follow focus it's still taking a good amount of trial and error. Any tricks?
I have the Zhiyun Crane -M with my Canon G7x Mark ii, balancing went great untill the last step, my camera keeps pumping against that last step's motor. Do you have any idea how to adjust this problem? Great explanation tho!
I use adaptor that comes with eosr and 24 70 f2.8LII.Do u advice this setup for wedding shoots on zhiyun crane 2 or I also hv 16-35 f2.8LII also and 35mm sigma art f1.4
I followed every step of the way in this video. However, when I turned on my motor, I moved the gimbal left and right and the camera would lose focus on the subject. The axis would turn the camera the opposite direction from the initial direction. Please advise.
Thanks, very clear! I am using plates from Really Right Stuff on my camera's to attach it to my tripod for photography (arca swiss style). This is very popular among professionals (also Wimberley plates do fit my tripod head). I cannot change plates for video with the crane. Can i also use these plates or L-bracket on the Zhiyun crane? I read that the crane uses manfrotto plates? I dont use them.
Pretty good you could’ve showed different angles to really show what you were doing for the most part helpful but I feel like there’s certain key things were missing because we can’t fully see what you’re doing
thanks a lot, but i have a confusion.. in one video you said that when you switch it off it will stay at the place and not damage the camera or something but here at 6:30 when you switched it off. it just collapsed, how did that happen?
In a lot of the videos I saw, everyone says that the gimbal should hold its position to wherever u angle it once it's balanced. In my roll axis, the gimbal always levels back to horizontal. Is that a problem?
The knob to tighten the screw plate gets in the way is too close to the camera and doesn’t allow me to tighten the screw plate to balance it the camera . Any thoughts ?
Any troubleshooting tips with canon and follow focus? Mine is only working when lens is on autofocus and I thought it needed to be on manual focus? The joystick also only works up and down. Thoughts? Thank you!
Anyone have the marks for the Canon 80D and 18-135 EFS Lens (kit)? I feel like there should be a google doc for this since the manufacturer produces it at nearly the same size and weight
I'm trying to balance my Zhiyun Crane 2 with a 5D Mark III and a 24-105 lens. I did exactly how he explains in the video but my camera doesn't hold in the same position I put it. If I put the camera facing up or facing down, it's ok, it stays in that position. But when I put the camea in a diagonal position, it came back where it was. I don't know why, what am I doing wrong?
I notice he never mentions/shows the camera holding its position on the roll axis after it's balanced. Should that position hold as well? Or should it simply stay level and only the pan/tilt hold camera position when balanced.
Does the Crane 2 support the Canon EOS 800D? I've been offered the Crane 2 at a good secondhand price but can't find out if it supports the 800D, I found a video with the 750D.
Hey man, thanks for your video. I balanced my gimbal with an gh5 and sigma 18-35. A pretty heavy setup but should be working fine. I balanced it on 18mm. Also when gimbal turned on there is no sound of the motors. But when i look back my test footage i have alot of micro jitters and my footage bounces up and down a bit ( but thats my walking maybe.) Do you know what could cause this micro jitter?
Svend Even Hærra FS5 only body is 827.8 gr, with 18-105 zoom, battery, lcd viewfinder, handle and lens hood it's around 2.25 Kg so it should work... The only thing i'm worried about is that the camera is pretty long. Max payload is 3.2 Kg for the Zhiyun 2 :-)
dude... My 80 D + 24 - 105 F4 kit problem with balance process, I follow ur command, but its not properly balance. I thing pan motor is not correctly balanced.. crane 2 is new what can I do ?
Hi Evan, I've purchased the crane 2 and I am using a 6D 24-105 lens. I have followed your set up and the camera seems balanced (holds in any position) but when I power up if I learn the gimbal to the left of right it freaks out and turns the camera. People seem to be able to single left and right and the camera stays in position. Thats not happening for me, any advice? Best Dan
Daniel Keating check to make sure all your screws are tight. This happened to me on a shoot and it wasn’t til I get home that I realised the bottom axis screw hadn’t been tightened.
Hi Adam. Your tutorial is very good but I think I've got a problem. I'm trying to balance my gimbal for Nikon D5300 with a Sigma 10-20 f/3.5 DC lens. Everything fine, the camera would stay still in any position, but same as in your video here: ruclips.net/video/BRIrZt-Im2U/видео.html is touching the arm. Is this ok? I've never used a gimbal by now. Thanks.
I'm trying to balance my new crane with my sony a7sii and 35mm 1.4 lens but when I point the camera down to do the first adjustment, the lens is too long and it can't clear the bottom motor. How can I adjust it to get this right!?!? I've been messing with this thing for HOURS. And I accidentally hit the power button mid adjustment - hoping I haven't ruined the whole thing!
Courtney Malone,is crane 2 or crane V2? and we guess it's may cuased by the length of len,we suggest you email to our aftersale apatment:service@zhiyun-tech.com,you can attach a video about your problem.
it's v2. should i just point it up instead of down to balance? Also my computer doesn't seem to register the gimbal is connected while I'm trying to update firmware. so frustrated!
Hey Courtney, I've just bought the Crane Plus (basically the new version of the V2). Just curious... did you ever sort your balancing problem out? I'm using the exactly the same camera lens combo (a7sii + sony 35mm 1.4) and I can only ever get the camera to balance still in one axis at a time. Rather frustrating !

afro423,i'm glad you like it ,hope we can post more pratical vids to help you.
This video was very helpful!!
I won’t lie I had to watch it 30 times and I was ready to throw it out the window.
But it’s perfectly balanced now!

Been watching alotta videos like these,
So far I've learnt how to balance my Weebill Lab
Tilt & Pan Axis
Still struggling with The Roll Axis tho
Super helpful! Thanks so much for the great video. Lots out there but this one was very digestible.

Evan, you are awesome, buddy, thank you for this tutorial. I think I balanced my gimbal correctly.

awesome video bro. Just got mine and for the first time balancing, I had it rockin and rollin in under 10min. Thanks!!!
Thanks, I was balancing in the wrong order. Appreciate this video!
Good work really appropriated❤️ & thankyou buddy
Brilliant, thank you for explaining every step!
"It was frustrating, took me half an hour" ... sitting here 4 hours later in a rage. Apparently I'm not that bright.
AWESOME! A whole lot quicker. Saved me time. 👊🏾 Thank you.
You are really helpful thanks

Great video. My crane 2 says it's locked. How can I unlock it. Thanks
Thanks bro ! That was clear !
Thanks . Very helpful
Thank you .all the best

You can check our Crane 2 playlist and you'll find it.

Thanks buddy...one more question that how can we get rolling shot with this??

Hi Sir, I fine trouble in balancing roller axis
Thanks for the video! Do u know if this will work with the Canon T3i?

The hash marks for balancing is a great idea! Are those hash marks available on the Crane Plus as well or only the Crane 2? Thanks!
Pretty good you could’ve showed different angles to really show what you were doing for the most part helpful but I feel like there’s certain key things were missing because we can’t fully see what you’re doing
I used 5d mark iii 24-105 lens. What are balancing marks for it
thanks for featuring my video! Can you please link to my RUclips channel in the description? :)
Hi, Evan Thomas, definitely we featured you in the “producer”,others can click to your channel directly :D
thanks a lot, but i have a confusion.. in one video you said that when you switch it off it will stay at the place and not damage the camera or something but here at 6:30 when you switched it off. it just collapsed, how did that happen?

Thanks for the video. I am planning to buy the same. Does it work with payload of nikond850 with 14-24mm f2.8 lens.
The maximum payload is 3.2kg
The knob to tighten the screw plate gets in the way is too close to the camera and doesn’t allow me to tighten the screw plate to balance it the camera . Any thoughts ?
The lever is spring loaded just pull out and turn
for that last balance you should use a table or flat surface , thats RISKaY
When i uae fuji xt3 it vibrates.. Does it support fuji xt3
Any troubleshooting tips with canon and follow focus? Mine is only working when lens is on autofocus and I thought it needed to be on manual focus? The joystick also only works up and down. Thoughts? Thank you!

I just bought the Crane V2 for $199 at best buy👍
Does the Crane 2 support the Canon EOS 800D? I've been offered the Crane 2 at a good secondhand price but can't find out if it supports the 800D, I found a video with the 750D.
Andrew Martin I guess he doesn’t respond to every text😂 but yes it most definitely should!
Does Crane 2 work with my Sony FS-100?
How do you balance the last axis if you have the screen flipped out, such as the GH5? it will bounce against the gimbal
Sander Gesthuizen i had no problem balancing with the screen flipped out with my Gh5, works great
Hey man, thanks for your video. I balanced my gimbal with an gh5 and sigma 18-35. A pretty heavy setup but should be working fine. I balanced it on 18mm. is the crane 2 better for a 5D mark VI? the 1.1 version seems hard to set up with it
Will this gimball work with Sony FS5, and with 24-70 lens? Are there another lens you would recomend?
Svend Even Hærra FS5 only body is 827.8 gr, with 18-105 zoom, battery, lcd viewfinder, handle and lens hood it's around 2.25 Kg so it should work...

dude... My 80 D + 24 - 105 F4 kit problem with balance process,
I follow ur command, but its not properly balance.
I thing pan motor is not correctly balanced.. crane 2 is new
what can I do ?
Where is the set up video
"60 seconds"
My back motor balance does not stay in place... it always centers itself...
cool
got a wobble when i balance my wide angle. can't seem to figure it out it balances fine and then i'm getting some shake filming
SHVWN COOPER adjust the strength of the motors with the app, that should solve the problem.
i added an additional quick release so that seems to have stopped the wobble

is there a required weight? coz im using 80D with 24mm pancake, kinda hard to balance
Anthony Asis, the Crane 2's max payload reaches 3.2kg, if the total weight didn't over it that's ok to balance.
I use the 80d with the original crane, and it works flawlessly.
Yes, minimum weight is 500g
Hey bud! I need help😫.
I'm trying to balance my canon m6 on it...it doesn't work though...😅😅😅
under 60 seconds in an 8 minutes video. LOL
