  • Directed by Jon Turtletaub and loosely based on the 1997 novel Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror by Steve Alten, The Meg features an international cast including the likes of Jason Statham, Li Bingbing, Ruby Rose, Cliff Curtis, Rainn Wilson and Winston Chao who star as a group of scientists and rescue divers contending with the discovery of a megalodon shark that began terrorising the open waters.

I didn’t know this was based on a book when I saw the trailer, but when I did watch the trailer I thought the idea was hilarious. There was absolutely no way an ancient shark can beat Jason Statham. I’m glad I was correct when I watched the movie while on vacation in Darwin, NT, Australia.

In real life, a giant shark like Megalodon would never survive in today's Oceans due to all the chemicals and pollutants dump into the water supply, and even warmer temperatures is what caused the Meg's extinction. Also, the Meg would actually liquify if it tried to swim from the Mariana Trench, which would cause it to implode.

Not only that, but the whales alive today are capable of defending themselves and even out speeding a Megalodon.
The shark would also face serious competition with smaller predators (great whites and orca) and even the fact that some people would just hunt it for the fins.
