Sharon thinks of herself as the breadwinner, even though she only makes forty bucks more a month than Dennis. Dennis supplements his income with payday loans. Neither has any idea of where the money is really going. In five years, they want to own a house and a catering business, and become parents -big plans for a couple with $18 in their account. It’s a classic case of freshly minted young adults on their own for the first time. Can Gail save them from a financial freefall?
I’ve been following Gail’s budgeting system for 11 years.
I work part time (severe brain trauma), and receive disability for the time I am unable to work. I bring home less than $45k/yr.
I’ve been able to pay for travel to Spain, Mexico, my wedding, house renovations, and an SUV.
All without borrowing. 🤗 Mortgage only has a few more years left!
And a small amount for emergencies.
I love Gail’s system.

It is 50 essentials, 30 lifestyle, 20 savings, and it breaks down more than that into like entertainment, hobbies, so forth

As an amateur baker, I'm baffled by the split second shot of the interior of that cake. It must have been obvious that it wasn't properly baked when he tested it. In Al fairness to him, though, he took the criticism well and he recognises that he'd have to learn this in a professional environment first.
Totally agree 100 percent. If he truely wants to, he will learn and with a goal and plan, he will get there.

What chef would put a cake in the fridge without covering it where it can pick up all the smells in the fridge? Or worse yet, go walking down the street carrying an uncovered cake??? They may have done that for the camera, but I wouldn't want to sample a cake that has dust and whatever blown on it. The 'decorating' of the cake was abysmal. I wouldn't pay $25 for a cake like that. If he wants to be a pastry chef, he needs to get a whole lot more experience before going off on his own.
If she wants to play with babies she should get a side job in a nursery I feel like her expectations are not realistic. And I'm pretty sure all his payday loan money is going to herbal recreation.
I was typing out my comment that these two seem like teenagers and then Gail goes and says it herself! My first husband was like this and thank God I never had a baby with him, he was a big baby himself lol.

They seemed to have the foundational blocks for good communication and partnership, hopefully they can take what Gail has taught them and run with it.
Those cake criticisms were brutal. You could tell she didn't even know where to start with him because it just missed the mark so badly. Under-baked, uneven frosting, basic tasting frosting, weird decoration, etc. Just all around bad.
Being a pastry chef and starting a catering business are completely different jobs. You kind of need to pick one, or hire out the labor.

Business is not just doing the fun stuff. Business is 80 percent not fun. Thats why most people fail. Sure it gets fun once it actually makes money. But most small businesses don't get off the ground because it is time consuming and requires a lot of sacrifice. He isn't going to make it because he is not self motivated. Yes we all like to make a cake once in a while for someone in our home....but we are talking 500 cakes a week to make a business work and pay for the expenses. Not up to the challenge. He needs to get his butt to work with that baby coming out the shoot.

I think they chose the wrong person to evaluate his cakes. They shouldn’t haven’t chosen a person who is monopolizing the market and chosen maybe a pastry chef who teaches at a school or teaches some sort of class.

@Debbie Frampton, I'm vegan but don't really use plant based "meat" or "cheese", except as a very rare treat, or when it turns up really cheap at the salvage discount grocery. I shop the salvage and discount stores and a local produce stand, have a garden, eat whats in season, and no prepared/packaged stuff. With crockpot and rice cooker I can make beans and grains in all sorts of international iterations- lentil curry, lentil soup, Cajun red beans and rice, Spanish chickpea stew, hummus and falafal...it's never boring, but all the ingredients are super cheap. And there's good old reliable pasta in many forms, and that takes care of a couple nights a week. Tofu stir-fry, tofu scramble, tofu.slad sandwiches...and of course PBJ, oatmeal breakfasts. If you don't buy meals, just buy ingredients, you're fine. My only expensive indulgence is coffee. I drink half a pot a day. But always made at home, no Starbucks.

Shamefully, no. It's 2022, and we still don't have dental care, nor coverage for most drugs.
Health care is a provincial/territory issue, and most (all?) provinces will cover dental care for children. I think our province covers dental care up until age 11. We still have to use our private insurance first, MCP covers the rest.
Dental isn’t included except for children (generally)- other healthcare is covered but prescription drug covers depends on which province you live in.
We have great healthcare but it’s not 100% comprehensive
