As many have said already, it was heartwarming to see that they were a team from the beginning and took responsibility together. No pointing fingers, and both motivated to fix their situation! So much easier to help someone who wants to be helped.
Being “house proud” has caused so much financial ruin. Everyone that I know who have gorgeous, showpiece homes have enormous mortgages. My husband and I bought a fixer-upper for cash about ten years ago. It is a stunning place that people look at with awe? No way! It’s small and unimpressive, but it’s ours. We don’t have a mortgage and the value, when you add up what we’ve done to improve it plus how much it initially cost, would give us a 400% profit if we sold it today. At the end of the day, it’s the people and the love that matters to us, not having granite countertops, vaulted ceilings, and extra bedrooms that we don’t need. If that’s important to others, then God bless! We all have our priorities in life. Financial stability is infinitely more valuable to me than an impressive house.
The US needs more mixed housing options for people that don't desire large homes with two and three car garages. We really need to break up zoning laws and allow neighborhoods with both small & big homes alongside modest condo and apartment buildings. Starter homes should be much easier to find.
@amberkulik2078 your parents are honestly my favorite couple from all the ones I watched on this show. They seem like just genuinely nice people. Best wishes to your family!!!
Watching this in 2023 and it's so refreshing to see Gail doing what she's so good at. What an amazing couple. This episode, for me, really highlights that having a big income salary doesn't ensure you'll be debt free. If you're not careful with your spending and go beyond your means anyone can be in big trouble! I've learned so much from Gail!
It's a job and they are both well paid for doing it. They may well be a nice couple, but the only amazing thing about them is their shockingly poor money manage skills.
What a wonderful, loving couple. They really went into this with a great attitude, and gave 100% with every challenge. They also took responsibility for the mess they got themselves into, unlike some couples who blame each other (or blame anyone or anything). And it just makes a person feel good watching two people who have been together for eight years, have two kids and very stressful jobs, and yet they're so loving and supportive of each other. This is one couple I don't need an update on because I have the feeling they've done very well over the years!
Those on a so-called "fixed income" from Social Security are going to get a bigger raise than most workers. They get a cost of living raise, which is more than a lot of workers can say these days.
She has been clear in other episodes you need enough money to cover your basic expenses. She can’t get someone to manage money they don’t have. Often there is way to reduce spending but when there’s a mismatch on money coming in and money going out something needs to change…and that’s not her responsibility. If you have very limited money coming in you may need to change your living situation or rely on family. But she can’t do that for you.
I really like this couple, they seem sweet and genuine but just disorganized due to their demanding careers. I hope they are still together and doing well!
My neighbors make almost triple what my husband and I make and they are BROKE ! It’s all the years of credit card abuse and paying all that interest to the bank. And they still do it. I’ve made suggestions, but it falls on deaf ears.
The average house sells every 5 years. 🤷🏼♀️ We have been building our own house, out in the country on 5 acres. No debt 😊… doing it one paycheck at a time. We should be completely done in 2 years. So, even though it will be a total of 10 years to complete, it sure beats a 30 year mortgage !!! 😏
I would love to see where this couple is today. They are so awesome. You can see they are in love, they are fun and sincere. I would love to see how far they came..

I was taught by parents who lived thru the depression in the 1930's. Never live above our means. I am 75 and followed that all my life. With hubby we never spent what we didn't have. I am widowed after 51 1/2 years of marriage and live very comfortably. I even put 30% of my income into a savings account. It's put aside in case I end up in a nursing home later in life and no one will have to support me. No kids so I have had to rely on myself.
Convenience Living is your biggest drain on any household. A co-worker smoked & bought cigarettes from the 7/11. I told him he paid 33% more for convenience shopping. He allowed me to buy a carton with his money & give one pack a day at work - he had 3 full packs left by Friday & $50.00 in cash to keep. I told him his weekend was going to have a great start.

The best thing to do is a cash budget. After bills and savings and debt you get a bit for yourself..groceries and gas. When those 3 are gone your done spending for.the.week. it's been working perfectly for me for years.
That is crazy to me they make a combined income of about $155,000 and they are still struggling living paycheck to paycheck that is just ridiculous but it goes to show you. It doesn’t matter if you make. Millions of dollars because if you cannot budget then you’re screwed.
Lol Gail would be irritated if she gave that first challenge. 😂 i just mentally went through the house and practically all the "big ticket" things and fruniture were collected over time from "Free" sections or second hand drop offs from family.
