As a small secondary mention - puppies and dogs of many breeds can be had for very moderate adoption fees at any local shelter or private rescue group. I feel guilty about not buying off of the Dollar menu at Taco Bell 🌮💵😬🤣. My husband makes over $130k, but we both grew up very poor, so know the importance of being frugal and saving money, and NO DEBT. 1:50 I don't know about Canada, but in America, you are not responsible for any EXISTING debt the other person has before and once married. However, any NEW debt after the wedding is combined. There may be some exceptions to the new debt rule, but I've never seen any.
Maybe that's the legal convention, but the social convention, if you are serious about marriage being a lifelong commitment, you treat all debt and assets as combined.

Once they are drowning in their debt the relationship won't be so fun and cute and she will be ready to free herself from him.
