    Didn’t do stupid lately but my daughters used car engine went out and had to replace it with most of my emergency fund. It stung because I didn’t want to touch the money but the silver lining is no money was borrowed and I was prepared for the emergency. That itself is a win but I felt my momentum take a blow.

    If you pay your credit card off at the end of the month and are responsible, then it does not hurt to have a credit card and in fact it will help you get 1% 2% back from your spending.

    It’s a failure, but not fatal. Follow the Ramsey system, pause investing while paying off your debts!
    The only reason I even lost it is because I was trading with the mindset of being so attached to that $1,000 because it was all I had. Pay off your debts first! Peace of mind will bring wealth, and successful risk-taking will occur.

    And when you use only a debit card and spend $100,000 you get..... nothing back oh shocker. I get between 2%-5% aaaaand upwards to 10%back on all my purchases. I have never carried a balance on a card for more than a week because sometimes the merchants take forever to finalize transactions. Credit cards are an investment. If you can't manage your spending then don't get a credit card, but if you're smart you can make money on money you would've already spent.

  • @tmnic6971
    @tmnic6971 5 лет назад +1

    How are credit cards not a good financial decision? You can build points for you to use and also build credit. Just pay it every month so you don't get interest and don't spend more than you would otherwise spend if you paid in cash

  • @Coolfusis

    Well, of course wealthy people won't tell you credit card rewards made them wealthy. That's silly - 1% of your spending will never account for a substantial amount of your income, by definition. A better question would be "do you use credit cards frequently?"
    The answer would almost certainly be "yes." That's almost guaranteed. I don't know if I've ever met a wealthy person who didn't have several credit cards they used day-to-day. My grandparents, who are millionaires, use their discover card for everything and have done so for 20 years.
    Credit cards are convenient, have rewards, have better fraud protections, and have perks. If treated like cash (most budgeting software will do this automatically), and paid off immediately, there's virtually no reason to ever use a debit card.
    Now we can talk about the psychology of cash vs plastic, but it's not terribly realistic to rely on cash/checks in this world. There are plenty of places that have stopped taking either (when I was in an apartment, for example: it was e-check or plastic).

    I'm a multimillionaire. I use credit cards for almost every purchase. Never paid a penny in interest or fees in 34 years. I've made thousands in cash rewards. It's not reason I'm rich, bit it helps.
    Am I bad with money?

    Leasing a Toyota Aygo/Prius is good if its your only "debt" and better if you are a business man you can write almost everything off.

    Can someone explain to me in the most simple way posible what is a “Roth IRA” and a “401K” I would be grateful :)

    • @Ryan_DeWitt
      @Ryan_DeWitt 5 лет назад +1

      Simplest way possible? 401k money is taken out before taxes and grows. You pay taxes on the growth and amount you put in when you take it out. ROTH IRA you pay taxes on the money before you put it in and it grows. When you go to take money out, you pay no taxes on the original amount or the growth.

      A 401k is administered through your company and you are usually limited to certain investments that your employer dictates you can invest in. An IRA is a retirement account that you direct, and as such, you have many more options.(As a side note, I don't remember the exact limits, but you can put much more money into a 401k each year than you can an IRA. That doesn't even consider any employer's matching contributions.) Both accounts can be either "traditional" or Roth. Traditional simply means that you are investing before-tax money. Thus all your current contributions are tax-deductible, however, your gains will be taxed at normal income tax rates. Roth accounts are funded with after-tax money. Your current contributions are not tax-deductible, however, all your gains are tax free. (In short, if you are young, it's almost always to your advantage to invest in Roth accounts.)

      Simple. roth = you're not taxed on the growth of the money. That's why Dave always recommends it because in the end..in the long run you end up with FAR more money to start drawing for retirement decades later. Cheers.
