"When you like the taste of steak at a restaurant more than you like the feeling of paying your bills on time, you've got a problem."
This is why I learned to cook steak. Now I make a $65 steak for 10 bucks 🤷
I like rice and beans!
I like rice without beans 😅
I like bread with a spread. Especially when I’m tired after a long day.
As a diabetic.... I cannot eat rice.
She's hiding something significant. There's gambling, drugs, or some other big drain that's eating half their income.
Lol detective Don on the case 😆, probably drugs tho I completely agree don't add up
Shopping.. she’s an addict
You'd be surprised how much over spenders can spend when the addiction is spending not drugs or alcohol. My ex husband spent money like it was burning a hole in his pocket. I couldn't stop him I tried everything and once you take the access away they resent you for giving them an "allowance" like they are a child, then divorce you. 🙄
@@nessapalmer5316 what was the addition of you don’t mind?
@farouksellam7194 the addiction was spending or you could say purchasing things.
My parents always told me "if you do nothing else, PAY YOUR RENT first and foremost at least that way, you have somewhere to LIVE!!"
Can't pay your utilities: candles, flashlights/batteries for lighting, warm clothes, window insulation and blankets for warmth!!
Water: bottled water or gallons of water!!
Food: If you can't afford food shopping: pb&j sandwiches, almond milk, canned meat/food/veggies, fruit!!
Transportation: bus or walking!! Can't afford clothes: Goodwill or secondhand clothing from relatives/friends!! Basically, whatever you need to do to be responsible with your bills/save, and "survive and thrive" do it!! All of this "keeping up with the Joneses", your STUFF, you can't impress anyone or take your stuff with you when you DIE!!" My parents btw, in their 80's and they look like they're in their 60's, I thank God for their wisdom and lessons and I truly love them!!❤️❤️
I’m 63 years old and I can tell you that the problem with our country is that parents do not teach their children how to deal with feeling uncomfortable and deal with adversity in life. You job as a parent is to teach your children how to stand up on their own two feet. That is only taught by making them learn how to stand up after you let them fall. It’s the hardest thing to do but the only way to love them the best.
🫡
You’re 100% right. Children need to suffer a bit more in the US so they can grow resilient. I’m also guilty of helping my daughter too much. Good she’s only 2 and I can correct that.
You better believe it. Part of responsibility as a parent is to make your children hard cause the world they have to live in not the fantasy world you hide in is cruel, vicious, unforgiving.
Also, it's mandatory to teach your children honesty, character and decency so they grow into decent, honest,,useful gainfully employed adults not sleazy deadbeats, freeloaders, scammers.
Glad Dave stepped in and started asking the right questions.
Absolutely
That’s why this show is going to crash without him. Rachel/Ken/George may keep the thing afloat but the rest of the personalities are parrots (sometimes George too)
Some of the advice from the other personalities is excruciating to listen to.
George is getting there.. he's not as straightforward as Dave but he has come into his own a little..maybe time will tell..
The others are very painful to listen to.. the one thats on here with Dave is a hype person. She feels the need to background anytime Dave says something..it's annoying.
Im going to miss Dave 😔
💯
I used to think a budget was going to be completely restrictive and boring. What I found out is the budget gives me absolute peace of mind and freedom, because before the month even starts, I know where all of my money is going, and I know how much I can spend. I used to be a free spirit, and I'm now turning into a nerd.
My wife refuses to make a budget with me. I've told her many times it's not about restricting things down to nothing, but just to know where we are financially and maximize our savings. She refuses to cook, so if I'm working nights she will take the kids for fast food and that stuff adds up.
@@markcowan3366 eating at home saves so much. Dried blueberries and oatmeal.

If she is struggling on 9k a month, she will die financially if she divorces him and only makes 2.8k a month… careful what you wish for
If she is accustomed to 9k a month, the husband will be paying alimony through the nose if there is a divorce; she is all set.

@@David-wo9un- Totally, although she’d still be spending out the a$$ in no time😅
@@David-wo9un She can always remarry if things get really bad.
The show will not survive without Dave . He knows that
Definitely. I'd much rather prefer just to listen to him than other hosts trying to stay relevant by saying stupid sh*t like yeah yeah yeah... 😑
It’s a relief when he takes the wheel and rights the ship.
None of the other personalities can really take the helm because Dave dominates them. A dominant personality is required to take the helm, and Dave won't pair up with another dominant personality because then they'd clash.
@GenX X Yeah, the other hosts are just "yes" men and women. They don't give advice as well as Dave does.
They said that about family feud too lol
I wish that the other co-hosts were trained to identify roots of problems like Dave can. Anybody can pin the list of baby steps on their wall, write a budget and just follow the steps to success. But Dave is there to ask the difficult questions and actually think critically to find other barriers that people have, which is a trait that i feel the others really lack.
I think it's decades of experience as a financial councillor

Hahaha love that
I know people who stop at Starbuck's twice a day. Exactly none of them have figured out they're spending three thousand dollars a year...for a cup of coffee!
That also seems to be a generational problem.
It was a cute line but not that funny because he talks about not eating out a lot. If this is your first time hearing him mentioning not eating out then it seems funnier than it really is.
@@nephetulaMy wife knows a couple who gave their daughter a credit card for food and clothing expenses while she’s at college. $1000 limit. One month she spent over $600 at Starbucks. They found out she got two or three cups a day and often buy for her roommate too. They bought her an expensive cappuccino machine for Christmas, told her she couldn’t spend more than $50 a month at Starbucks and she’s been good since then.
I disagree that you should prioritize buying food before paying rent. There are a lot of food assistance resources available for low income people (SNAP, food banks, WIC, etc.), however rent assistance is much harder to get. Pay your rent first , then figure out food. It doesnt do you much good to have a full cart of groceries if you dont have a pantry to put them in.
I agree with this. Shelter is priority number one for me. I’ve been in rough spots and my rent was always paid on time. In those times I would find loose change to buy a 1$ burger. That worked out well for me.
Go try to get assistance.
These people would never qualify for food assistance with their income
She's in denial of her own fault and blaming her husband for most of their issues. Dude's avoiding a bullet if the divorce goes through. Her call was literally her trying to get Dave's confirmation that she's not doing anything wrong and Dave saw right through it.
It's almost like the more you watch these videos the more that it's apparent "we" is usually "she".
@@djpuplex happens when "she" always says "he". Funny.

I’ve learned so much from Dave. He’s no nonsense and straightforward. Gotta love him 😊
Yep, he says the same as my financial guy. And he got me out of debt...
EVERYONE learns from Dave. So right about so many things. Personal responsibility + discipline.
She spends money and runs up a debt.... her solution: get divorced
Thats sad and more and more married people in america are going through that route than helping each other on thier debt issues
She only brings in 2800 so the husband might be better off single lol
She will probably make bank with alimony; the husband is about to lose BIG.
It's likely they have deeper personal problems than just rampant spending and not agreeing on a joint account only
Too many people look at marriage as a rental or a lease instead of a lifetime commitment. Bolting as soon as things get hard.
I love how blunt, honest and direct Dave is in these conversations. Today, we sugarcoat too many things to make people feel good. Oftentimes, we need the cold, hard truth to help us get on track.
Every call needs to be like this! All the other Ramsey personalities need to take note. People need tough love and be smacked around a little so they can step back into reality.
It doesn't help that half the comments are people whining whenever Dave calls someone out for their stupid behavior.

There’s a reason why the show is called the “Dave Ramsey” show because no matter what any other show host here says Dave sees through the fluff and asks the right questions.
Not trying to get lost in the details, but….. It’s not called the Dave Ramsey Show, lol. However, I AGREE, nobody is anywhere near equal to him.
Agreed, and the day he retires from hosting will be the day I stop watching/listening.
@@DoctorSmartyPants There will always be reruns!
Several years ago I watched a RUclips video about doing a “no buy year”. Which meant only buying replacement items you use up, things that were broken, needed for a job, medications, etc. absolute NO clothes, books, fancy coffees, decor items, etc. I thought it would be hard, but it was so easy. If I went into a store knowing already I could not emotionally purchase I felt no temptation even to look at all. I just grabbed the dish soap or paper towels and out I went. I saved so much money it was amazing. And I feel so good about myself. I also took the year to go through my house and get rid of stuff I didn’t need or want, so my house is uncluttered, my finances are better and I am so happy. I love watching this show because even in retirement it keeps me focused and on track financially.
I often do a no buy month. I asked my husband to come up with a dollar amt to save for every day we don’t spend, he decided on $7 per 'no spend day'. We've saved $63 this month so far. It's not hard to not spend. We gamify it so it's fun.
They make between 80 & 100k a year. There's no way they're pulling 8-9k a month after taxes.
I Agree! Max $5000/ month
Caller dosent even know how much there making
I have a feeling she has no idea how much her husband makes. The fact she rounded hers to 100 and her husband to nearest thousand is a sign of that.
I did the math also she doesn’t even know how much they bring home that man is gotta run run
I think they are netting 100k. She's making $8,400/month takehome.
9k a month and it’s not enough.
thanks for coming back from vacation Dave! We need you you to get straight to the point!
Some of the other personalities on the show are still having trouble "feeling" their way into the call. Dave has so much experience and intuition about what's actually going on when people call in. It's really amazing actually. Some other calls I have listened to, I think one thing and Dave goes another direction and come to find out, he nails it. Awesome stuff.
Dave certainly has years of wisdom over the other younger ones on his team.
Good thing dave took this call. The other guys would just tell the husband to get a 3rd job. Dave told her that it was her fault they are in debt as well
Definitely the best with Dave! He always digs in more.
Lol no they would not have.
Dave usually simps hard but he seems to have found his balls at least for this call.

Thank you all for changing my life for the better! Debt free and building wealth because of yall!
LOVEEEE this!! Good to see Dave actually run a budget with a caller!!
This is the PERFECT example of where Dave’s straight talking can instantaneously make a world of difference. This lady’s home earns well and don’t even have that much debt, they just need to be disciplined and stick to a budget and within two months they’re back on track. Within a year they could be debt free and increase their lifestyle if they so choose to.
"eating out is not a necessity. some people all you know how to make are reservations" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love my budget, my spreadsheet where I can see everything I spent. It’s like a game for me stick to it and it’s kind of fun. I don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything. Taking care of my future self is a better feeing than any vacation or shopping spree.
This proves Dave is superior to all these clueless hosts. Calling people out in a way the others are scared to. And they have no life experience compared to him.
I don’t need a budget, never had one.
I own a paid off home and paid off vehicles. I maxed out my roth every january, and contribute 1k a month in to my brokerage stock acct. I don’t make a lot, I just don’t spend ridiculous amounts on entertainments and junks I don’t need.
Suddenly, i became financially well hearing this
I feel so bad for these people. Some folks just can't get it together.
I'm glad Dave is calling BS on this caller, she's trying to avoid accountability
The husband not letting her get rid of the separate accounts leads me to believe SHE is the spender and he doesn’t want her draining the account.
“Are you parents cousins??” 💀💀 Dave is my favorite 😂😂
Glad Dave was on the call and opened her eyes.
“Eating out is not a necessity. Some of you people all you know how to make is reservations.” 😂 Gotta love Dave.
I wish they asked her if she and her husband have children. It's unbelievable how much people spend to make their kids "happy". Not saying this is their case, but I have family members who go over the top when it comes to their kids.
Her math doesn't make sense
She makes $2800 and he makes $6000. She said they both contribute to overspending. Does she truly think a divorce and going down to a single (smaller) income will be good for her? Might be a good thing for him though.
She probably has someone already lined up or is just simply dilusional
I think she is figuring getting half his income through alimony.
She is planning on getting half his income so she will be pulling in $5800 and he will have $3000. That’s “equality”
Not in Georgia, I don't think. At least not forever.
Tell it Dave deal with the root of the problem not the symptoms👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽‼️
She thinks that $500 and $400 a month in car payments isn’t that much?….
Been listening to Dave for 6 years. My four walls are never in doubt.
They both out of control 😂
We take home $10k per month and our mortgage is $900. We SOOO want a bigger home but can't swallow when we consider going up in mortgage from $900 to $2700. That's hard.
If she thinks they are bringing in 9k a month and making 85k a year, it explains why their budget and finances are a wreck.
@14:26 my husband grew in poverty in an extremely abusive household so he never learned anything about finance until meeting me. He was very smart though and never had a single debt until we bought a house together (unfortunately relying on only my credit score, but he did contribute a huge chunk of the downpayment). This point in the video Dave makes a really good point about how people don't make good decisions, especially not good financial ones, when they are stressed and in crisis mode, and because my husband lived the first 20 years of his life like that, it's very hard to get him to talk about finances. He's great about saving and paying down debt, he's all on board with that, but man is it like pulling teeth to try and get him to open an RRSP.
they aren't paying rent, car loan, medical debt, or student loans and she was like we don't even have enough for our minimum payments.... what in the world?!? so basically all of their income was food and other spending.
They fine dining daily
Addictions are expensive.
Shopping
I get when people get behind on bills, especially when unexpected bills pop up. But this…this is ridiculous. If they paid their fixed expenses, including rent, it would leave them with 5k a month, but they’re defaulting on their car payments and medical bills?!? How do you go through 2/3rds of your income on discretionary spending and then even dip into your bill money to get behind like this? I can’t even imagine the mindset. No matter how bad with my budget I got, I ALWAYS paid my rent, car payments, utilities, etc…first.
Being paid once a month I’ve always prioritised my mortgage payment first, then utilities and then food. After that are phone and internet along with transportation and insurance costs. Everything else are not necessities but extra spending.
If I didn’t work from home, I would not be able to watch all the Dave Ramsey Show episodes as they get posted, Dave.
If you work from home you are a loser per Dave. 🤣
You just proved his point about working from home......
Oh really? Is this why no one wants to go back to the office, I wonder 🤔
Working from home is not a problem. So what if he watch Dave Ramsey and still work, why are yall jealous
I feel like this is one of the first times Dave actually called a woman out. Usually he is just telling the husband to work until he drops.
Preach it!!! I started clapping and saying Amen!!
They make too much money to be in such a bad situation. They’re about to be sleeping in their only car. Just listening to this stressed me out. Can’t imagine living it. Financial peace is so much better than living a nightmare while eating out and buying stupid stuff.
It sounds more like an addiction problem like gambling or drugs (why lots of medical bills?). Their monthly bills are actually reasonable. Rent is less than 25% of take-home income, so why is it in arrears?
Trouble is, if she gets evicted, the careers and income sources will collapse like a house of cards.
Marriage + general busyness of life can often create a backlog of communication. This couple needs a face to face sit-down.
All it takes to get behind like this while having a great income is to be an impulse buyer. Habits like eating out every day, sometimes more than once a day will rack spending up rapidly.
"Wow, this 15-minute show was like a crash course on family budgeting! Great episode!"
Denial is the first step to recovery
Watching these videos make me cautious of whom I date.
My brother tried to give me your book when it first came out & I never read it but now I'm a big fan. Still never read the book but know the baby steps.
Love when Dave holds the woman accountable!!
“Some of only know how to make reservations” 😂😂😂😂😂
I think both hosts were missing the obvious error here. If they make 80-100K a year, there's no way they're bringing home almost 9K per month after taxes and other deductions. In reality, they're probably actually working with half of that.
Thats not the point, their point is that they are spending too much money especially on their carloans and their rent and late fees. Why do you think she is giving up and wants to have divorce
@@unfairsanic5089 it is a huge part of the point though. They're acting like they have plenty of money to pay and get caught up, but I'm betting in actuality they're only working with half the money they were thinking.
@@Suuby84 Scary to think caller, being a teacher, is teaching children math when she can't even figure out her own household's take-home income.
I have the same income and we have a $3,100 mortgage payment. They are not prioritizing the bills above buying stuff/junk. I have a feeling one of them or both of them is doing "retail therapy" to the max. Dr. D needs to evaluate the marriage and mindset of the couple
My wife and I bring home 7.5k a month and get by just fine. We don’t even touch her income, it goes straight to savings
You sound disciplined.
I like how she says that they both overspend, but it's hard to get them on the same page. How ironic
They are so right about so many things. Financial responsibility. Live below your means. Pay necessities. No luxuries. Save and invest. Budget so you know where your money is going. And cable isn't a utility. You can solve your financial problems in a few months if you really work on it. So doable.
"Some people, all you can is make reservations" seems like he had that one locked and loaded, but it's such a great line! And it's true, I never bothered learning to cook and only know I'm starting to realize how much you can save by cooking yourself..
Just jump on into it- the chicken won't blow up. Get some chicken breast on sale, butterfly it into smaller cutlets, put cutlets in a bag with about 1-2TBSP of mayo and some seasoning, marinate for 1hr and then pan fry each side for 3 minutes. Don't knock it until you try it, you won't pan fry chicken any other way when you try this. Do it right, that chicken can be used for dinner, dinner tomorrow, sandwiches (good ones at that with real chicken breast). You can eat really good, even better than eating out, while cooking at home. Just like a budget, meal planning takes deliberate effort but is worth it with the savings, and how you feel after eating/in the morning
She was about as clear as mud. Not telling the whole story, they make awesome money.
Dave has got me laid out laughing at this episode
Both! Are big spenders they are willing to walk away from each other. Very sad.
