Well, *technically,* Williams's last movie was _Absolutely Anything_ , a 2015 sci-fi comedy starring Simon Pegg, where Williams voices a talking dog in one scene. But yes, _Night at the Museum 3_ was the last movie where Williams has a starring role.
I have actually known 2 guys who were night watchmen at big museums. They regularly got a powerful feeling that the exhibits seemed to look alive in the half light, overnight. One guy started believing in spirits and wandering souls and apparitions... there were lots of unexplained bumps and bangs in the darkness, things falling off of shelves. I pressed the one guy for more stories and he got this anxious look and refused to talk about save to say... "There are such things as ghosts." Anyway, you must get pretty overwhelmed in the atmosphere and possibly start seeing and hearing things... This must be a pretty common experience among night security people at these institutions and maybe inspired this script.

Hospitals, museums, they are always in abundance of ghost stories, especially if the place is old. In my culture, it is said that spirits love to dwell in things that represent or resemble a human, like paintings, figurines, or statues. As an adult i do, and while he's a stereotype no fun British authority figure... he begrudgingly gives Daley props and respect at the end, even if he doesn't verbally admit it. So he's not a 'bad' guy, just realistic in how he reacts to the situation... even as a kid im the kind of person who gave frowning looks at people who where to loud or boisterous in museums when i was ever in one, so I get where he's coming from.
It's been ages since I've seen this and I totally forgot that Paul Rudd played Nick's stepdad. Also I kind of forgot that Ahkmenrah had been sealed in his tomb for 50+ years and I never really considered why. I wonder though if it's because Cecil knew he could potential threaten their plan since he's an actual person (albeit a mummified one during the day) instead of just a statue, model, miniature, or waxwork imitation of a real life figure.
I don't think so, the old night guards just didn't really care about the museum inhabitants? They were there to do a job (and feel young). Lock up the lions, close the miniature displays, keep the mummy in its tomb. Status quo. Even day 2 Larry was trying to get to know and help the residents.
Fun fact: The woman who played Debbie is Ben Stiller’s real life mother Anne Meara. So when he says they have a connection that is a cheeky nod to the fact that they are related. I actually went to the Museum of Natural History in NYC with my family not too long after this film came out. Even though I was super young, I was so excited to see all the exhibits and learn about natural history, thanks to this movie.

The opening credits panning around the museum figures made me nervous because I had automatonophobia as a kid, despite also being a museum nerd (figure that one out). I remember thinking "Is this actually a scary movie and my parents didn't know?" Then of course came all the wholesome, comedy gold to follow 😊
Love this movie. I got in an argument with my sister about the fact that Rebecca's thesis would have been totally discredited/rejected because she wouldn't be able to cite her sources. And was promptly reminded, Hey Sarah, it's a movie about museum exhibits coming to life. Hahaha
When I was a kid, we had live action shows on Saturday mornings that starred TV stars we knew from primetime that mixed adventure and comedy. These movies remind me of those shows
I'm about halfway through my degree in Museum Studies. I would definitely say this movie contributed. When I was a kid, my mother would drag me to all sorts of museums. These days, she brings her knitting so she can sit and wait for me to finish going through every exhibit. XD
As someone who actually went to the museum of natural history, I remember thinking that it looked completely different on the inside compared to the movie, I don't think they used the inside of the actually museum of national history for this movie

@@whitenoisereacts Well, as someone who had Latin in school and now Ancient Greek for my studies, I gotta say I think they made the right call there xD
I like to think the Romans' war with the Wild West exhibit led them to learn English over the years as a strategic advantage. Multilingualism was common among educated people in ancient Rome, and a lot of English being Latin-based would give them an advantage in learning the language.

The third movie you guys will LOVE it has a fabulous actor in it and I was shrieking when I heard the person’s voice and then the star did something that had me rolling on my seat. You guys may have a similar reaction because it is so well done and hilarious. And if you thought Paul Rudd was a great surprise this actor will get jaws dropping. Gus and Reggie are huge actors that have been in so much, it wasn’t until I had looked up Mickey Rooney that I’d actually had seen him in films before this film. And speaking of famous actors Dexter is played by a very famous capuchin who has been in George of the Jungle, Dr. Dolittle, The Big Bang Theory, and even appeared in a Hangover movie. For me she will forever be the monkey that George of the Jungle taught to stand up to a lion. Speaking of lions, the reason the lions probably look so good is because Narnia came out a year before, so it is possible the animators got the CGI to be similar, because the male lion does look a tiny bit like Aslan. My favorite thing about this movie and the series is the authenticity. You have characters being protraryed by people of ethnicity that is true to that character, Rami is actually Egyptian, you have a Native American played by an actual Native American I am unsure if the actress is of a tribe close or same as Sacagawea. Even the clothing is authentic from Attila to even Columbus. It was like a crew member was like we are going to bring history to life and be true to it. The Neanderthals could be argued not accurate as we are still learning about them and they could have had more to them, but they are a group of hominids still being studied. But nevertheless they were still in a way respected and given authenticity. And the sequels keep to it as well yet still having the comedy and action mixed in very well. Cant wait to see your guys reactions to the sequels.
I live in Manhattan, and after this movie came out (and I'm pretty sure they still do this once in a while), they did a once a month event where you can sleep near the exhibits in the Museum. I went when I was 8 and it was frigging magical.
I never watched this movie because it came out at a time when I was very cynical about the comedy movies and newer comedic actors; but after seeing this reaction, I'm going to have to watch it, because it looks so good. Also because Robin Williams.
Oh and in case you don't know who his ex-wife is. She plays Teddy Altman in Greys Anatomy she's a huge character in the show she's been with them a long time now.
Older short man, Gus was pioneering comic actor named Mickey Rooney. Mickey had a long career in entertainment from 1922 to 2014 (year of his death) Mickey born in 1920 making his 1st time in entertainment at 2 in 1922 working with his parent as an act in Brooklyn. His last movie in 2014 was a sequel to this movie. Mickey was 93. Man, who plays Cecil is another iconic actor named Dick Van Dyke. Dick just turned 97 and still active for his age. He works out daily.
I forget how many amazing actors and comedians are in this movie. I see Ben Stiller and think twice about watching it. But it really is quality casting.
I feel bad for Ahkmenrah though! He's been stuck in there for 50+ years! Not to mention the fact that he's the only exhibit that is a real human that now comes back to life!
My cousin and I went to the Smithsonian all the time anytime we were at my grandparents. The rocks/minerals and the history were my favorite buildings.
You have to keep in mind that 90% of the things on display in museums are just models oh and or Recreations in the first place they're not going to put actual Priceless artifacts on display for millions of people to sneeze on
I’ve been to New York and the Museum of natural history for the first time 8 months after i watched this movie it was without a doubt the most brilliant advertisement for the museum and for New York in general. We spent the entire day there almost 9 or 10 hours, we only left a couple of times to grab a snack in Central Park, this Museum was so huge we weren’t even sure how much of it we actually covered! the inner layout of the Museum was different from the movie but mostly still similar as a construction ( more modern and secure than portrayed in the movie) We saw Rexy’s cousin was very similar to the T-Rex in the movie, we also saw a similar monkey to dexter the most fascinating bit was the ancient ocean mammal hall it was unbelievable they showed this massive kraken like mummified octopus trying to eat a whale in pitch black ocean darkness it’s unexplainable you just have to see it to understand it will give you proper chills , I also love the ancient Egyptian exhibits they have our history so we might as well enjoy it lol! It was a trip of a life time sadly I lost all the photos I’ve taken this day which I remember were over 400 I still feel bummed just thinking about that but at least I still have the memory of how amazing it was, I highly recommend you visit the museum if you haven’t. It was an unforgettable day and I thank this movie for this because playing the soundtrack from this while touring the museum was pure magical. I think this might be one of the most perfect Casts in a movie and it makes me happy that it’s part of Robin Williams legacy may he rest in peace and happiness.

49:19 my friends did this as a Halloween costume last year 😂😂😂
Loved seeing all four of you together! Such a fun reaction, can’t wait for the other movies, these were some of my favs as a kid
The dance parties at the end are by far my favorite part of these movies! Even the new animated one.
that little soldier on stella's mic xD
I live in Manhattan, and after this movie came out (and I'm pretty sure they still do this once in a while), they did a once a month event where you can sleep near the exhibits in the Museum. I went when I was 8 and it was frigging magical.
I love this movie franchise! So glad you’re watching it now!
the lady who talks with him about his resume is Ben Stiller's mom in real life. Fun fact!
I never watched this movie because it came out at a time when I was very cynical about the comedy movies and newer comedic actors; but after seeing this reaction, I'm going to have to watch it, because it looks so good. Also because Robin Williams.
Owen Wilson and Robin Williams are hilarious in these movies
49:29 *notices they didn't do the actual roman salute* XD
Oh and in case you don't know who his ex-wife is. She plays Teddy Altman in Greys Anatomy she's a huge character in the show she's been with them a long time now.
I love this whole trilogy, the score, the comedy, and i love history
The actress playing the job counsellor is Anne Meara, Ben Stiller's mother.
I was scrolling down to see if anyone else had pointed this out!! What a talented set of parents Ben has!!
Oh yay!! I really enjoyed this movie. Super fun, light hearted and funny! Can't wait!
"I,m made of wax Larry, what are you made of" is now a song too. Check it out
I want to believe that Dick Van Dykes scarf was a Mary Poppins reference.
These movies are such a fun time. Though I'd argue the 2nd one is the best by a wide margin
I absolutely loved these movies as a kid and I still do, theyre like classics to me.
Whoa, what a blast from the past!! I remember watching this in the TV with a Polish dub when I was younger. What a good memory
I feel bad for Ahkmenrah though! He's been stuck in there for 50+ years!
Not to mention the fact that he's the only exhibit that is a real human that now comes back to life!
I haven't seen this movie for ages and it still holds up
The old lady who interviews Larry is actually Ben Stillers real mother.
My cousin and I went to the Smithsonian all the time anytime we were at my grandparents. The rocks/minerals and the history were my favorite buildings.
You guys just brought back my childhood ❤
Anne Meara who plays Debbie in this movie is Ben Stiller's real MOM!!!!!
The lady at the employment agency is Ben Stiller's mother, Anne Meara.
You have to keep in mind that 90% of the things on display in museums are just models oh and or Recreations in the first place they're not going to put actual Priceless artifacts on display for millions of people to sneeze on
“North wins….slavery’s bad…sorry” was glossed over too quick that was so good 😂
I’ve been to New York and the Museum of natural history for the first time 8 months after i watched this movie it was without a doubt the most brilliant advertisement for the museum and for New York in general.
