Yeah the casual hazing/assault/bullying of some poor "chubby fellow" out a ****ing window is brushed past so breezily in this scene. Pretty gross.
Richard is like, the epitome of, if you look the part, and sound the part, people will soon have short memories about all your terrible actions while you live and call you a good, upstanding man once you've gone.
Shouldn’t the bigger question there be why does it get brush past in society and considering that if that was OK and the Grandpa’s time what does that mean for how then the next generation was brought up?

Okay. So, it's not often I come to Lorelai's defense but here goes. I feel like she was mostly cool in this episode. She didn't know that her mother didn't like Pennilyn. And even if she had, all she did was engage her in friendly conversation. Lorelai is very outgoing. If she avoided everyone Emily didn't like she'd barely talk to anyone. Dating Jason is a bit inappropriate. He is her father's business partner. But I would say it doesn't reach the level of terrible until she and Jason agree to keep it secret.
Calling her "Almost mommy" is kinda crazy.
She should have know, this happened after the episode where they found the letter where Richard's mom said that he should have married Pennylyn instead of Emily, Lorelai is one of the most questionable characters in tv
@@theinvisibleme4104 That's not true at all. This was episode 4x09, and Richard's mom passed away in episode 4x16. Trix was alive and well during this particular episode, and Emily and Lorelai still didn't know about that letter.
“You’re my almost mommy” is by far the worst line in the whole show. I’m on Emily’s side here.

Oh I think she knows, she just did it on purpose to bother her mom, which is worse.
Emily's outburst with Lorelai wasn't right but it was kind of understandable... She just got pretty devastating news. Richard is the one who deserved the vitriol, but unfortunately Lorelai was the one there to catch it. It's actually painfully accurate for how some people feel when they've been betrayed, 'If you hadn't spoke to her, then I wouldn't know and everything would be fine.'

I love how team Emily you were on this episode. I always felt bad that lore made him feel bad about the room. They could have compromised and ate in the room and then had drinks at the bar. But the result was cute still.

Emily is totally in the wrong here. She wants to blame Lorelai for Richard’s mistake. She had no right to tell her who she can and can’t talk to. If she wasn’t so demanding and controlling, then maybe Richard wouldn’t have felt the need to lie to her in the first place.

I find Lorelai annoying because she feels the need to be antagonistic and argumentative for no reason. WHY do you feel the need to call your dad's ex "almost mommy" in front of your mother?

She really does love to antagonize her mom sometimes huh 😬 she is very mature in some ways but being around her she turns into her former teen self in no time

i wouldn't avoid talking to pennilyn just because Emily doesn't like her. Emily sucks. and anyway Lorelai didn't know Emily would get mad about it.
i mean, she didn't know the first time. then when she talked to pennilyn again, my interpretation is that Emily is being crazy and mean for no reason so Lorelai shouldn't listen to her, she should just politely talk to pennilyn like any other person.
Lorelai is absolutely the worst in this episode. Insufferable from start to finish. I really hate that who “I’m cute because I’m demanding” performance on the date, too. Gross.
