I have been a piano fanatic for 70 years, I have heard many of the great piano playing legends playing live. I have been close friends with, and played duets with, some of the legendary pianists of my generation, When this competition was taking place, I was recovering from an op and had difficulty in walking. So I sat and watched all the transmissions from Leeds and I watched the qualifying rounds. Even at that stage, he stood out as being special. I wrote to a friend "Lu should be the winner" . When I hear him, I just stop in my tracks, I stop whatever I am doing to listen. That's a sort of magic that some performers have. This Schubert impromptu is such beautiful playing, it leaves me speechless.
Ah ah ah ! I too agree with you completely. I am utterly thunderstruck and so moved by this young man's spirit/ incredible hands/mind/heart (all one) that do his singing for him. This man is a true "new" genius of our incredible instrument. How fortunate we are to have him in the midst of our needy world.
Dear Eric, I have been feeding my two caravan pups with the piano music of Mozart and when I had them listen to the Schubert Impromtu No 3 from the programme Sweet Dreams for the first time, I knew I had struck a chord of resonance. My black male pup responded so definitely that he recognized it on the next day. Now I am playing to them all four Impromptus from you. Just now as I started on the first one already, he hurriedly went straight to my my bed and put his head down on my pillow. Yesterday evening both attacked me to lick me all over my face. I obviously have created a.bond of love flowing both ways, to.them and back to me. I am in the position of being their teacher, energy coming from me and bouncing back. So I have understood the phenomenon of Quantum Entanglement. going both ways. the essence of which is Love. In the country of China when one learns a craft be it martial arts or poetry, there is the ritual bonding of kowtowing and offering of tea to the master and his wife. The master from this point on would take on the responsibility of the pupil. I have three more of the same breed of pups coming to my care. I shall show them all how to listen to good music. Your music played from your soul is something they can easily recognise.
I could give less of a damn whether other pianists may be considered "better". The sheer beauty of Eric's performance resonates with my soul and I return to listening to this repeatedly and am never disappointed or tired of hearing him. His ability to communicate directly is the hallmark of a true musician, and is a gift possessed by very few--I am in my 80's and although I can truly appreciate technical prowess and interpretative ability, I have only very seldom in my life experienced Eric's degree of innate musicianship and sensitivity , a few of which times were performances by street musicians who never had any serious professional tutoring and had no technical virtuosity.
Божественное проникновение в суть музыки Шуберта. Спасибо, Эрик, за столь вдохновенное и тонкое исполнение , оно трогает сердце и завораживает, ты чародей!❤🎉👌👌🙏🙏
In the rat race of who can play the fastest/loudest/most theatrically that has overrun solo classical music (especially in competitions), Eric is one of the few true artists of this generation. Always in service to the music.
I never dreamt to hear the playing intented by Schubert in those impromptus. Eric Lu gives us something what other great pianists completely fail to see : the sober greatness of Schubert's writing. I am grateful to M.Lu and I wish he will play one day all Schubert's sonatas. What a gift it would be.
@@magdalenaportmann2431 yes, I think you meant Kate Liu! But in reality both “Lu” and “Liu” are the same in Chinese character, meaning they actually have the same surname, only the anglicized spelling is different!!😀
I always found the 1st impromptu rather boring but the way Eric Lu puts on such an emotionally-charged face that it makes Schubert's piece suddenly take on depth that I never knew it had.
J'ai des frissons. Jamais au grand jamais je n'ai entendu la musique de Schubert comme si elle était jouée par lui. C'est un miracle, un merveilleux miracle. Merci....

Beautifully stated. My sentiments exactly.

He has a sort of magic that other performers don't have..
He breathes music..divine.
He is as natural in his body expressions as music requires . He is as pure in it as,999gold.
This young mans playing never fails to lift my spirit and transport me to a place of gratitude. Thank you, eric, liu.

🤢
The pain and despair of Schubert turn sublime through your art.
I never heard these Schubert's Miracles so miracolously played...
Beautifully played. Mr Liu a truly world class pianist.
Careful - his name is Lu. There is a pianist with the name Liu, but she is a young lady..
But I agree with you - world class - spine chilling - wonderful pianist.
@@magdalenaportmann2431 yes the anglicized Chinese surnames “Lu”, “Liu “ are spelt differently but in Chinese character, they are the same!!

A tremendous performance! Bravo
Bravo! Your music always heals my soul. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. 😊🙏✨
Eric Lu - the BEST !
I enjoyed listening to you play. You are such an inspiration to me. Thank-you.

So much clarity... effortless... beautiful
I love your playing very much, Eric!
Bellísima versión y nada como el Schubert final. Bravo.

He's good
Wonderfull!
Beautiful...but that chair?!
Ok, so it is indeed a bit disappointing that the chair does not have as much character as Glenn Gould's chair.
Surely you jest.🤓
